The SAME part and SAME place where AAA would have gotten it, but AAA would have charged me $200 more. I understand not wanting to install aftermarket customer parts, but this was a part they would be picking up from the dealership, I just had it already ordered to save $. Had a $69.99 coupon for an oil change package that covered free tire rotation, digital vehicle inspection and select fluid checks. With the extra fees they charged, my invoice amount was $84.18. They assured me tire pressures were thoroughly checked and brought to recommended pressures if necessary. Left their car care center, got part way home and saw that the tire pressures were exactly the same and that the oil light was now on in my car. Had to take it back and learned they hadn't tightened some screws properly and the mechanic just didn't check the pressures. I won't be returning. read more

Brought my van in for an oil change and they recommended front and rear brakes. I told them to go ahead with the front breaks and that was my understanding they would do as they agreed upon. I scheduled my appointment to have my rear brakes done at another shop to save money since AAA over charges. Upon their inspection, rear were new and front were fine. I called aaa annoyed because I had to pay for this other shop to look and notice they were fine. I asked why the rear were done and not the front. The manager told me I must have miss understood and I assured him I did not. He was not willing to compensate me for their mistake. As I write this, my wife and I are stranded in Virginia with my gooseneck trailer on the side of the road in 20 degree weather on a Sunday with two flat tires. As a military member who deploys frequently, I was told last year that I needed to upgrade to the Premier membership to cover towing of the trailer, so we upgraded to make sure my wife had coverage while I was gone. Today, we called the North Carolina roadside assistance and were told we need the Premier RV coverage. I told them last year that we were told to get the Premier coverage and that it would cover us. Furthermore, AAA towed the trailer on the Premier membership last year. Both times we were passed from the North Carolina office to Virginia and back (as though every AAA customer breaks down in their home state). Each office has their own rules, and no one can give you a straight answer. Do they think we always breakdown near the house? So today, I told them to upgrade me to Premier RV if that's what we need. Of course, they tell us we have to wait five days to get towed on the the upgraded plan...which I would've been on had they told me this last year. I told them to pull my records and see that we were towed on the Premier plan last year, and I told them to pull the recording from last year because I specifically confirmed the trailer would be covered since that is the main reason we have AAA. Of course they can't pull records. Furthermore, they can't even switch me to customer service to waive the 5 day waiting period because customer service isn't open. Jaquon the call center "manager" said no one was there that could help me. Fine. If AAA wants to leave customers stranded on the side of the road on a frigid Sunday with snow and ice on the road and not provide the service i paid for...everyone will hear about this horror story. Each AAA office doesn't talk to the other or have the same rules, and you might as well light your money on fire. They will leave you stranded, and it will take them 3 hours to even approve a tow if they ever do. They didn't in my case. I will be filing a complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General's office, the Better Business Bureau, and others. Enough is enough. Been here twice, once for an inspection and new tires, another time for an oil change and tire rotation. The staff are courteous if not exactly cheerful, the place is clean and it has a decent waiting area from which you can see inside the shop (could be good if you're watching what's happening to your car, or bad if a visit to the repair shop for you is kinda like going to the dentist - a painful wait to find out just how much money it will cost you). With the tire rotation, I just managed to drive back onto Independence when it became clear the car is not driving in a straight line anymore. Back I go: Apparently the tires were worn out in a way that didn't allow for rotating them anymore. They hadn't noticed that before. After my 30 dollar oil change, I got a quote for another half dozen repairs that according to them needed to be done and would have totalled close to 1000 dollars. Thankful for the pointers, but since I was having no car trouble, a three page quote of stuff that "needs" to be done seems like they're trying hard to squeeze money out of me. Although to be fair, I am no expert on cars, so I can't say too much on how fair their quote was. The inspection and tire change was fine, except for the wait. They said getting the tires would take 45 minutes. It ended up taking them 1.5 hours, and with changing them, the inspection and various wait times in between, I spent over three hours at the shop. Lastly, I am a AAA member, which should give you 10 percent off labor at AAA car care centers. I asked if they needed to see my AAA card, they said no. No discount applied. I had to ask right-out for the discount on the labor costs before they granted it. I just had a complete $100k mile tuneup LAST WEEK. Toyota dealership saw the oil leak 5 months ago and advised adding oil as needed. I went to Discount Tire for 4 of their BEST tires for $380 with rebate. Alignment seems fine. Don't do anything routine and don't let them frighten you into ALL the other work your car "needs". This place has got to be one of the worst places to take your car. I only needed brake service done on the front brakes. I told them that I do not need rotors and that the front brakes were squeaking. They pulled the car into the bay then LOOKED at the car for about 10 minutes and came to the conclusion( without touching it at all) that I needed rotors on the back and new brakes. They gave me a quote on the job and began work. I also asked for a balance and rotation. After they received the new rotors from across the street they promptly put them on and put the tires back on without doing the balance/rotation. I brought it to their attention that the front brakes are what I wanted done and they restated that the front was fine since they checked it (LIE) but they still had not looked at the front brakes. I tell them that this is not true and also that the tires have been put back on the car but the balance/rotation has not been done. They were going to have me pay for a 40 service that I never received (potential costly LIE of OMISSION). She then tells me if I want them to check to see if there is something wrong with the front brakes it will cost an additional 50.00. I am too livid to think straight at this point and tell her to forget it since I will be charged an extra 50 in order to have them do what I brought the car there for in the first place. When they finally finish after about two hours the price ended up being well over 330 (another LIE) since I was not quoted anything like that. Lastly, when I get ready to leave they hand me a broken emblem from the center of my wheel and told me that it was broke when I got there. I had driven over 60 miles before I pulled into their parking lot and I am sure that if it was broken it would have fallen off before now. The reason it broke is because of one of the techs was handling my car tire like it was a basket ball. That is what broke it. I will not use any AAA Car Care Center ever again. I will use ANYBODY BUT AAA Car Care. They have all but ruined the name of a very respected company. read more

Very strange of me not to check Yelp before heading out... But I will have to say that I'm glad I didn't. Shocker I know! I had a very nice experience this morning with this AAA - had an appointment for 10AM and they were ready -- which is amazing because that never happens in my world. I actually had an appointment for them to change my oil, check fluids, rotate tires, etc.. a package deal. The waiting room was quite nice - I was able to use their wi-fi and surf the web using my laptop -- nice touch (but they also have PC's you can you use as well should you not wish to bring your laptop). It took about an hour and half and they didn't try to sell me anything... The gentleman that was helping me even gave me a tip on how to save money!!!! What? Are you kidding me? Amazing. All in all, I was very please with the service and the staff - so why only the 3 stars... I will wait for my second return to see if they are consistent.... I always get screwed over at these types of places... So we will see. I have to go back sometime in the near future to get a leak in my something ma-gigger, but waiting to get a second opinion. read more

This place is a complete scam. My mother had been taking her car here for a couple of years and they were slowly replacing every easy part they could get to. Finally one day she called me to ask if I thought she needed to replace her timing belt (a $1000+ job with labor) because AAA said it was very important. HER CAR DOESN'T HAVE A TIMING BELT! Luckily I knew her car had a timing chain that was a permanent part. When she told the mechanic this he acted like it was no big deal and said he must of gotten her car mixed up with someone else's. After hearing about this I looked into my parents past maintenance receipts from AAA, which they actually held on to. Earlier, this AAA had replaced all four shocks when my mother took the car in only to replace the front two again less than 6 months later when it was my father who brought it in. Stay away from this place! All they did was take advantage of two people who thought they were getting an honest place to work on their car. read more

I take the Jeep in for several CEL codes that point to an oxygen sensor. Jeremy: OK, we'll check it out and give you a call. Me: I'd also like the plugs changed, since it has been ten years. Jeremy: OK. Usually, as part of a tune-up we change plugs and do a fuel service, whereby we clean the throttle body. Me: OK, how much does that cost? Jeremy: $119 Me: And that includes parts? Jeremy: Yes. Me: OK, go ahead (me thinking plugs and fuel service for $119, since there are no "parts" involved in cleaning throttle body). Jeremy calls later in the day to say the car is ready. No mention of price. I go in to pick up the car and I'm presented with a bill for over $600. Apparently the $119 was just for cleaning the throttle body. Plug replacement cost me over $300, with $151 of that for parts. Me: $151 for 8 plugs? That's $19 per plug? Jeremy: I just put it in computer. It was late. I was on my motorcycle and a storm was closing in, or I'd have had words with the manager. They'll get no more business from me, a 14 year member of AAA. read more

NEVER AGAIN! Took 1 of my cars here to get the annual state inspection. Told the guy behind the counter that I know it is a very old car, probably a lot could be done on it, but the KBB is just over a $1,000, and that I did not use it very much at all. Just wanted it to pass inspection so I could keep it and use it to haul stuff. After about an hour wait, he came back and said if failed inspection and he had 3 sheets of print outs of what needed to be done. I confirmed with him that everything on the print out needed to be done in order to pass inspection. He confirmed and I told him I was going to decline as I knew it wouldn't be cheap. A neighbor recommended I try his place, so I went there, told them my situation and left him my car. He called the next day and told me it needed $16 worth of parts in order to pass. All told, it cost me $60 to pass inspection. I then went back to AAA on Independence and asked them for an estimate on my work order. Total estimate was right around $1,100. I, once again confirmed with him that it was all necessary in order to pass inspection. In the politest way I could, I told him my situation and that I was showed him the Passed certificate for the inspection and that it only cost $60. He gave me some typical responses as I knew he / they would: - "We at AAA really don't like to do State Inspections. We know that other repair shops see the inspections as 'cash-cows'" - "There is a lot of 'grey areas' when it comes to the inspections" I was ok with everything that he said until he looked at the date of my visit and said "I wasn't here that day, otherwise I could have worked with the inspector to see about 'just getting it passed'". Problem: he was there that day, b/c I asked him a question about the other car that my wife brought in to get inspected! read more

My wife's 2007 Honda Odyssey was towed here by AAA on 6/23/2016 needing a new alternator and over a year later, today is 10/23/2019, I'm still pissed about it. Warren "Turnip" Turnipseed told my wife that the van also needed a new transmission. My wife called me to tell me about the transmission issue so I left work to join her and meet face to face with these jokers. When I arrived, Mr. Turnipseed was calling around pricing out transmissions to the tune of $2500-$3000. He stated that our van's trans fluid was low on the stick and "black as tar", two statements that I knew to be false. He told me that when he was pulling the van into the service bay the transmission was slipping. I told him that I maintain this vehicle myself, and change the Auto Trans Fluid (ATF) regularly. I told him that I needed to check the records that I keep in the glovebox and see the fluid on the stick. He offered me safety glasses and allowed me access to my van in the service bay. I had just changed the ATF 3 months prior to this event and it checked OK on the dipstick, good color, good level, good smell (not burned). I requested a written quote of parts and labor then asked that my wife and I be given a couple of hours for lunch next door at Cracker Barrel mull over our options, they agreed. First, we located a replacement alternator at Auto Zone down the road for $100 less than the price AAA offered, and I got it for free under warranty because I had replaced the alternator myself 9 months prior. We also sourced a replacement battery, an Optima Red Top, that was more expensive than the battery AAA offered but much higher quality. AAA charged $264 labor for the alternator install and $60 to install the battery, both of these labor charges I considered to be very high. We were a bit concerned about the transmission issue because of the amount of money involved. I knew that because it is electronically controlled and the van was only running off a barely-functioning battery it would be fine once the new alternator and battery were installed. In a couple of hours the new parts were installed and there was no problem evident with the transmission. Any car care professional should have known that a modern transmission will not shift properly if the electrical system isn't producing enough current to power the solenoids that it relies on to function. Not only am I disappointed in their ignorance about how modern transmissions work, but that Mr. Turnipseed made false statements to my wife and me, about the state of the trans fluid, in order to try and sell an expensive and unnecessary transmission replacement. read more

A lot happened in my last experience with AAA, so I'll focus on the essentials. Keep in mind, I could have written a lot more than this. If you want an in-depth review, read this one. I sent my diesel Suburban into this shop to get a lot of work done in my last visit (new transfer case, drive shaft, tires, routine oil change and state inspection). For those reading, keep in mind that I do not live in Charlotte anymore. I was visiting family and friends for the holidays and my transfer case finally gave in so I had it towed there to get the aforementioned work done on it. This is important. Because so much work had to be done on this thing (my fault, not theirs), I ended up in Charlotte for much longer than I had planned, meaning that I had to make my case with my boss back in Wilmington. Warren Turnipseed (The associate I was talking to during this whole thing) went out of his way to keep in contact with my boss in a very professional, doctor's note-like fashion, so my place of employment had the word on what was going on, straight from the horse's mouth. I worked my first day since getting back to Wilmington, meaning that I am still happily employed, and I thank Warren for going the extra mile to help me out with that. While my truck was getting worked on, I would periodically visit the shop to see the progress that was being made on it (I'm in love with that car. Couldn't resist). Each time, Warren was happy to lend me (and my friends who drove me) a pair of safety goggles to go into the shop and see up-close what was being done. He would even show me on the computer what the parts looked like before they were ordered (Tires, for example, and may I add that I am so happy I got to look at the tire selection, because these BF Goodrich KO2s are an immense upgrade from the model I'd been going with previously and they suit the truck's utility aspect perfectly) The mechanic assigned to my vehicle (Brice) was happy to update me on the progress of the work, and to answer any questions I had about what they'd spotted, or if anything else needed work. A+ on that, for sure. Both Brice and Warren came off as honest and straightforward. To sum that up, I felt a pleasant sense of transparency working with these guys. Bonus points for that. No unnecessary hassles. I work at a boatyard, and have experience with marine electrical, plumbing and engine systems (and more, but these are the ones that are most relevant here). Not once did anyone try to scam me with unnecessary repairs. They could have easily told me that I had frayed headlamp wiring, a refrigerant leak, an unwanted short, or that my transmission or a u-joint somewhere needed replacing, and of course I know those all work perfectly fine but my point here is they stayed on the short list of what absolutely needed work, and were always very clear in explaining something extra if it was necessary (For example, the drive shaft was fused to the old transfer case and they brought it to my attention and explained clearly why it needed replacing AND of course I got to see the damage up-close in their workshop to get a better idea of what was going on, hassle-free). This was not my first time visiting that office, but it was my first experience working with Warren and Brice and I must say it was spectacular. I was so happy with this experience that I've decided to go to that specific location for routine oil changes, even though I can do them myself. For those still wondering how my vehicle fared after the work was done, I drove it 200 miles back to Wilmington without a single hiccup. My 4x4 works again (It's great to know I can use my truck in the snow and on the beach again), and I can drive back to Charlotte to see my family without worrying about another catastrophic breakdown. I should also mention that I am and have been a AAA member for years. I highly recommend this place and the membership and I hope this review was useful to whomever took the time to read it. read more

I am so very very angry at this place and MIKE. I first went this Am to have a battery checked, I was told it would need to charge for a couple of hours and that driving it would charge it much faster. Several hours later and after having the battery, which mind you is under warranty, tested at another place, I was told they thought it was a bad battery. I go back to AAA, which we have been a member of for over 50 years, I walked in and told MIKE, I need the battery checked, showed him the receipt from the other place, he takes the car. We sit well over an hour, i look in the service hall, our car is up on racks. I go ask what is going on you are to check the battery, I am told this is a necessary check or they would be liable if we left and something happened. So i wait, I see the air filter from under the hood and the the inside filter already out of the car. I finally get angry and go to MIKE again, I say what is going on, he gives me a 3 page list of things that "NEED TO BE DONE" on the car. I am so angry I tell him to replace the filters that are already out of the car, get it down and out front I am leaving. Mike then proceeds to finally check the battery which i look at the gauge and it says 37 more minutes. I tell him what are you doing you were to this and only this, and now you start to test the fippin battery, get my car to the front now!! I go watch to make sure the filters are put in, they are, but in the meantime, my 86 year old mother pays her "bill" and MIKE has the gall to tell her out of my hearing range, Lady, you have to know your car is BROKEN and needs to be fixed, I sure hope you make it home today. IF you drive this car like this you are going to ruin it. ALL the computer systems everything you will ruin your car. I go to get in the car, she tells me this I go back to him, see the manager first, I am complaining to him about Mike so HE walks up, I SAID HOW DARE YOU SAY THIS TO HER, now she is so upset and he LIES TO ME AND SAYS SHE ASKED HIM. She did NOT, HE IS A BULLY AND PREYS ON WOMAN, BEWARE OF THIS and rest assured, I will go as far as I can, including the BBB AND FURTHER. I will make formal complaints with AAA, you are shameful and dishonor the name of AAA. Shame on you for the lies and trying to upsell, when things are not need. Routine oil change was $50 and took 2.5 hours. I had an appointment but it took them half an hour to get started.

Went in get an inspection. Since they couldnt find anthing wrong they said my wipers were bad and they could replace them for 20 a piece. I could believe that if it hadnt just used them with all of the rain we are getting in Charlotte. I called my husband and he said what brand of wipers are those. I asked the guy and he said accufit a hybrid (was in NAPA auto parts 2 weeks later looking for something for my husband's car and saw the same blades and the price was 9.99 to 11.99) I said just put them on since it was the last day I could get it inspected. I hope the 40 was worth it because i will never come back there again. I have never heard of such crap. read more

When I take it to my regular mechanic he tells me that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my car. AAA Car Care must work on commission. They are crooks. The place is nice and the price for the work I had done was fair. I had 2 tires mounted and balanced. What I didn't care for was the wait. They brought my car in to the shop within 5 or 10 minutes but overall it took more than an hour. I really can't imagine what they did for the 50 minutes between the time they brought it in and the time it was done. My son took his car in a few days earlier to install 4 tires and he waited 2 hours. Yes, he had an appointment too. The people were very friendly though. The mechanic was helpful as well. I've used this place for several years and I've always been happy with the service provided. AAA members get a 10% discount on labor, an extended warranty on the work done, and other discounts on basic services like oil changes. The waiting room is clean and comfortable, with free wifi so I can get some work done while I wait. They'll also give me a ride to my home or office if I need it. On one recent occasion my SUV broke down in a bad way the day before I was due to take my family on vacation. The guys here pulled out all the stops to get me back on the road as soon as possible. We recently re-upped our AAA membership after several years off. With the renewal came a $40.00 off coupon for service at a AAA car care center. My wife's car was in need of an oil change I figured since I had the coupon, why not use it. We typically use the dealer for service, but since it was just an oil change, I figured we would be safe. Well my wife called me when she was there because the service rep told her she had a third brake light out and it needed to be replaced. Well, my wife's car has an LED assembly for a third brake light. There are no bulbs that can be replaced as it is an assembly. And to add insult to injury I checked her third brake light when she came home and all the LED lights were functioning properly. Fast forward a couple months, and we are about to leave out on a family vacation to the beach. I start the car to cool it off and leave it running until we are ready to leave. When we back out of the driveway, there is a puddle of oil about 8-10" in diameter. After looking under the car there is oil leaking from the oil filter. Fortunately from my DIY days I had an oil filter wrench in my tool box. I crawled under the vehicle and was able to tighten the filter and the problem was solved. Had I not had the tool to fix the problem, we would have been forced to change vehicles as we left on a Sunday. I would not recommend this service place to anyone as they are obviously trying to railroad customers into fixing things that are not broken. There quality of workmanship leaves a lot to be desired here. The sad part is that there are people that take them at their word and pay for repairs that are not needed. read more

Do not, I repeat, do not go and have your car serviced at this bait and switch place!! My husband wanted an oil change and we called before coming to check on the price ---let me state we are AAA members . My husband got a quote and made appointment for afternoon. When he arrived, he told the man at the counter that he did not want the high performance oil (they try to sell you this) and that the regular oil for his truck was what he wanted. Well, when the work was done , my husband was presented with a bill for $59.00 and on the bill it stated he was given the high performance oil---needless to say, he was furious when he saw this ! Also, the quote we were given was $24.95 on the phone---they do not inform you, the customer, that they charge a $5.00 fee , a installation charge for the oil---and an extra fee to dispose of the oil. I was not present at the time of this transaction so when I was told by my husband what had happened , I called the place and Tom Bates answered the phone. I asked what they had charged for the service and told him you charged us for something we did not ask for. He was lying through his teeth when he said my husband wanted the high performance oil change--NOT!! What really is funny is that on the bill there is a paragraph that states "if you are not satisfied for any reason contact Tommy Bates to give you the opportunity to achieve our goal". Well, I received no satisfaction when I called to complain so I called the customer service number at the AAA office and registered a formal complaint with them regarding the service. If the matter is not resolved to our satisfaction I will be contacting the Attorney General's office for the state of NC as well as the BBB in Charlotte. We will never use their services again and I am thinking of cancelling my membership altogether. Been going here awhile - becoming a bit skeptical - dropped car off early, one first customers, for oil change and ligament. takes them 4.5 hours. And had problems with car, had tune up, spark plugs changed, etc Ended up having take car to dealer, only to be told spark plugs were never changed. My guess is in this day and age we are at mercy of these car repair shops. Cars are so computerized that we buy in to the "need" list or suggestions. In return those folks probably get commission for jacking up the sales, etc...Name me a honest repair shop in Matthews please. read more

Several months ago we had to have our car towed to AAA on Independence Blvd. We were stranded with our little puppy and had no choice but to bring the dog in with us while we waited for service. We were treated with the utmost courtesy and attention by Steve. He talked to us and made us feel welcome in the establishment. Convenient to my home, seems to be well organized and clean. I had a Member oil change and alignment performed on a 1999 Miata. They suggested I needed new shocks on my vehicle because the inside of the tires had slight wear, but my car had needed an alignment, so I suspect the wear was from that. The shocks seem perfectly fine. One other time they recommended new belts/hoses on this same vehicle, which we had just had replaced at the Mazda dealer only months prior. It does make me wonder how much they try to upsell, but otherwise the service is fine and fairly prompt. They do post all their prices upfront. read more

I had a great experience - car had a shudder in the brakes, they had it in and out same day, and had a shuttle that I could take so I wasn't sitting around the whole time. The staff were super nice and friendly, and the price was on par with other shops, if not a bit lower. I thought they were great! Worked with Steve Guthrie, highly recommend! read more

Warning, stay away! This place should not be allowed to have the word "care" in the title. I had a part under warranty and the manager would not replace the part I required unless I took my car to another shop to run expensive electrical diagnostics. I will add that the car would not start therefore it also required towing. Hands down the worst customer service and auto "care" in Charlotte. read more
