Check the dates on their reviews; most are old. I called and scheduled a free estimate. A day later, they rescheduled because one estimator was out of town. The new appointment was for the next week. When the day came, NO SHOW. I called and the lady told me that their other estimator was in Florida and asked to reschedule again. I said no thank you. How can they not even get estimations scheduled right. It's your first impression with the customer. Also, if someone is dealing with a basement flooding issue, this is not the kind of response you'd want to deal with. Do not recommend. read more

Received an estimate and paid over $10K to waterproof basement (foundation leak) in February 2016. Biggest sell was the "Lifetime Guarantee" for materials and workmanship. Flooding immediately from the garage door. They refuse to fix it because Anne Arundel County installed the grate in front of the garage door, with a drain pipe leading to a sump pump just inside the garage. After 6 years of floods, I finally recognized the problem: Action had removed the drain pipe and replaced it with drain tile that cannot handle heavier rains, causing the grate to overflow and flood the garage. Action never documented their visits, so this summer I tried something different: I made an appointment saying I had additional work, not warranty work, done. When the inspector showed up, I let HIM identify the problem, pointing out the issue was the drain tile that replaced the County's pipe can't handle the load. The inspector then refused to honor the warranty--again--but offered to have an Action foreman and crew come out and "fix my problem" for $1,000 cash. Still nothing in writing. Wondering how "corporate" was implicated (was this unofficial policy--avoiding honoring Lifetime Guarantees, potentially saving tens of thousands in repeat work?, or would the owners be upset that its employees were performing unpermitted and unauthorized work for untaxed income?). I received a text with the name of the foreman coming on the weekend and waited. They arrived in company trucks and uniforms. I took pictures and told them to leave. I went to the police station and tried to file a complaint but they said to report it to the MHIC first. I did and, again, waited. Today, the MHIC rejected the complaint as being 3 years past the original work. Time to file that police complaint and hire an attorney. DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

I needed to address a problem in one corner of my basement before an appraiser came in for a refinance that was in process. I was very appreciative of the companies that responded and fit me into their busy schedules on very short notice. Jason from AA Action Waterproofing came by to give me an estimate for basement waterproofing. Two days earlier another company quoted $5,200 -- they would dig up a large bush and 2 smaller plants I had had for years (they would not replant) to put in two protective layers (one plastic, one asphalt) for my exterior basement wall, then replace the dirt and mulch. At this point, I was just hoping for a lower quote. Jason let me know 3 hours before his scheduled arrival that he would be running about 1-1/2 hours late because he needed to take his daughter to an appointment, and asked if that would be OK. I certainly respect anyone who puts family first, so it was not a problem. As soon as Jason arrived we went to the basement. He said water was not leaking in and there was just discoloration on the floor with some on the lower wall. All that was needed was to clean the walls, apply hydraulic cement where the floor meets the wall, then paint with DryLok, and I could do that myself. I already had a can of DryLok that had never been opened. He said there was no damage to the interior and exterior walls. He did say that during heavy rains there was one location where the downspout from my roof connects to the drain pipe that leaves my property where water could be released onto the ground, which should be addressed. I was so happy with his diagnosis that I wanted to pay for his call, but he refused. I'll take care of this before the appraiser arrives end of the week. Jason Ruffner was honest gave us recommendations to simply fix the outdoor drain of our rain gutter down spouts. The last company wanted to install a full blown drainage system with sump pump for $12K, they had nice videos and scary pictures of homes that had serious water damage. One evening we were alarmed to discover a huge soggy patch in our basement carpeting being caused by a major water leak along the base of the wall. We soon discovered just how shady the waterproofing business is and why a company with integrity like AA Action is a treasure. The other firms that inspected our home tried to convince us the issue was hydrostatic pressure beneath the foundation - so they could sell us an expensive trench-and-sump pump solution (which would have required jack-hammering up our basement floor, rewiring and a host of other messy complications). Ron C. came out from AA Action and was a guardian angel in a time of distress. He very quickly (and correctly) assessed the problem was not hydrostatic pressure at all - but rather the simple result of poor backyard drainage and a long crack in the foundation wall. The fix was far quicker, cheaper and cleaner than what was being pitched by the other firms - and more importantly, it worked. Ron C. was extremely patient in explaining the issue and fix to us. He also made several visits to inspect the ongoing work and post-completion follow-up. He made himself available around-the-clock. He is responsive, extremely knowledgeable, and honest. He also genuinely cares about his customers - which is reflected in all his actions. He made a very stressful situation manageable and took great care of us every step of the way. I really wanted to just give the team here at AA for being extreme professionals. I've been having some flooding issues during rain in our basement and sump pump doesn't solve it all. We went with AA Action Waterproofing after it was recommended by two neighbors. Our basement had flooded after a storm. I was referred to Robert who notified me that the basement walls were damaged due to hydrostatic pressure and overall design flaw. We are currently renting out our home and Robert did an excellent job of coordinating with our tenants in getting the work done in a reasonable fasion. Writing an update and updating to 4/5 stars. I'd say 5/5 stars but for the point made in the first review. That said, these guys are reputable. They followed up with me, acknowledged the errors, and helped "make us whole" in terms of lost dollars in repair. That is to say, they owned their work. Mistakes can happen. And if I'm ever in need of an expert to dig into my foundation and mess with the structure of my home , I want to work with a shop that's (1) reputable and (2) will make it right if a mistake happens. I doubt this group messes up hardly at all. But when they do, what they demonstrated was ownership, responsiveness, making things right. I'd take them over another contractor any day given this - particularly for something invasive like a sump pump installation. Honestly, I'm impressed and grateful. read more

THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK! In July of 2014 I had the outside foundation of the back of my house dug out and waterproofed to prevent water leaking into my basement. In the spring of 2015 (10 months later) after all of the rain, I found that there still was a leak. Haven't had this company come out to do any work because I didn't get past the woman who answered the phone. I explained that my home had two issues that caused water damage and mold, upstairs in the kitchen (due to a leak from a dishwasher) and downstairs in the basement (due to groundwater coming in from a window well) and that we had a protocol from an industrial hygienist explaining the results of an air quality test and recommending remediation. She asked how big was the space because the company doesn't do small areas and the work had to meet their minimum threshold and "nobody's going to want to pay $3500 to have a little mold removed from their kitchen" and they wouldn't come out to have a spot of mold removed. I was a little surprised at her comments and questions because 1) I'd been calling around to see how quickly someone could come out because the protocol showed elevated levels of mold in the air and until then no one tried to talk me OUT of choosing their company, 2) nothing I'd told her at that point suggested I needed a "spot" removed, in fact it was the opposite and 3) nothing I said suggested that I couldn't or wouldn't be willing to pay their minimum amount to have the problem fixed. There were far too many assumptions with far too little information supporting them. In fact, we'd received a quote from a different company that exceeded $10k so we're weren't expecting to pay $50 to get the job done- we just needed a company that could start a little sooner. I was put off and ended the call. Their work may be spectacular but I couldn't get past the initial phone call. read more

There are high pressure sales companies and their there are water proofing experts. We had a moisture problem in our home at the bottom of a hill and I called three companies to come out and give their advise and estimates. One company, which had already done work in our home prior to us moving here and buying this home, sent a guy out telling me all this work that needed to be done and that the original work was faulty and needed to be replaced, NOT LOOKING at the notes and realizing THEY DID THE WORK and it was guaranteed. They call me everyday trying to get me to do the work. The other company was good but A Action Waterproofing sent George Hoody out, who is a true professional, expert and pioneer in the industry. He wasn't trying to sell me anything and merely gave me the advise that he didn't think much needed to be done.
