Our food ended up taking more time to get ready because we didn't understand the whole call, bill, and cancel method of ordering which we tried to ask but didn't get an answer straight away. The person who finally addressed it was kinda rude about it.. Anyways, the decor inside the restaurant was really nice and it truly does give an upscale sort of vibe which is cool, but I feel like in the near future I'd prefer to just order for carry out rather than sitting inside the specific location we went to just because the food is so good but the customer service just was not it. I ordered fufu with light soup and my friend ordered jollof rice with beef. The food took 15 mins to come out nice and hot. And that was the BEST jollof rice EVER!! Like I want to go back and buy some to take back to NYC with me. The light soup was delicious and the portion was huge. Its not a super fancy place for a date but there's ample space to sit down and the customer service is really good too I look forward to going back and trying some of their other items

Everything: from Ndole to plantain fries, Chicken DG to Pepper soup (not for me though, intolerant to chili), there's everything to make us happy. It's African food, so please be patient. It takes time and you'd better not be starving when you go there. African nights tend to be quite long and boozy! :) Service wise, here again it's the perfume of Cameroon. That warmth and family touch has no equal. I know I am being subjective and some expressions may be "unwelcoming" to non-Cameroonians, and I get that. But still, this is home. With its good and bad sides, and that's why we like it. The waiter who greets you with no smile, then brings you first drink with a quarter of a smile, then the second with half a smile, then your starter, and finally a full smile when you eat the main... When it's time to hit the desert, you're so full and happy that you talk to her like your sister. Sounds strange, doesn't it? But again, that's home! They regularly have live bands playing weekends. The Maestro becomes quite literally the first stop of the night: whiskey from 6 to 9, then dinner until 11, then whiskey again until 1-2 ish before hitting an African club in Peckham or Camberwell... Iroko Bar & Grill is a place with three distinct sections. Downstairs is the place to party with a DJ, dance area and bar. When we went there, there was a large private birthday party and they looked like they were having a great time. The restaurant is on the ground floor with a large bar and on a further open mezzanine level. Iroko has its roots in West Africa with wooden sculptures around the place to reflect this. I had the pepper soup to start which was packed full of roughly chopped lamb and spiced with chilli and peppers. I ordered the Iroko Seafood Skewers but there was a mix up with my order and an alternative was offered. I plumped instead for the Caesar salad which was fresh and tasty. My boyfriend had Suya to start which was a marinated rump steak served with tomatoes and onions and Jollof for his main dish, a rich, red spiced lamb curry served with fried, spiced red rice. We also shared fried yam which was like a flourier and denser version of potatoes. The bar element was getting progressively busier during our meal and we were tempted to stay for a boogie. As we left the manager told us that they are going to be reviewing their menu ready for a fresh approach in the autumn.

We arrived just after 19:30 and were seated but then moved because we were told that the table we were seated at we book from 20:00. Having moved to our new table we waited 20 minutes to order a drink and when the waiter brought the drinks we told him we were ready to order. He acknowledged this and went away to collect a pad we thought, however this was not the case. A further 10 minutes passed before a lady came to take our food order. The food arrived 25 minutes later and warm. The waiter didn't know if the restaurant took cards and then waited having requested the bill from him, we waited yet again for 15 minutes. All the way through the meal we had to put up with the most annoying door alarm that I can only describe as that of a rape alarm. Every time the door opened it screeched it's agonising cry announcing to all the arrive of the next guest. I am genuinely sad about my experience because the decor is modern and well thought out and the food wasn't bad, the price was reasonable, but the service was unacceptable. I would suggest taking out.
