A neighbor backed into my garage door and he arranged to have it fixed. I am a 70 year old woman and was a bit apprehensive about not knowing the business that my neighbor (whom I do not know well) contracted to fix it. But the A-1 repairman, Jake, greeted me with a big smile and a cheerful approach. Then he discussed exactly what he intended to do (replace the two lower panels) and showed them to me for approval, I knew I was in good hands. I should have read all the "one star" reviews earlier and avoided this place. Last Friday a spring broke on my 2-car garage door, pretty standard, particle wood door (it was a #262 spring). We called three places, and A1 was the first available. They would not give estimates over the phone, and since I had a car trapped in the garage I had them come out. The tech was nice enough, got the job done in 30-40 minutes. It was the bill that blew me away...$425! I was shocked, but went ahead facing the possibility of another day stuck in the garage. On Monday morning, I spoke with TWO competitor companies, BOTH who said that this job was between $250 and $280! I started doing some research, and these springs are $60-$118 (here's the link proving it: https://www.amazon.com/Pair-262-30-Torsion-Springs/dp/B00HTNZPF6. Remember--they buy wholesale). So, I called and spoke with the manager B - - - e immediately Monday morning, and asked their labor rate which he quoted at $89/hour. Do the math--how could this possibly hit $425? Not even close, even with a healthy profit margin! I asked B - - - e to resolve the issue by matching the competitors (their website claims they will), but all he would say is "you signed off" and would not work with me at all. Then he talked about the risk to techs doing this work (yeah, ALL the techs in the industry face the same risk). And, on top of it all, they hit you with a $10 fuel surcharge. Can't say that I have a great review to give. My tech didn't show up or call. First my window was 11-1. I am supposed to get a call 30 minutes out. So I call at 12:55 and they apparently just sent out the dispatch. The tech blamed the office girl. The guy shows up 20 after and keeps making excuses to get out of doing it today. "Your motorcycle is In the way, today doesn't really work for me, blah blah" I'm sorry I have plans tomorrow it needs to be today! Okay fine we will do it today! He Gets me to move the motorcycle and all the stuff out of the way and says oh I don't have the unit you wanted to install, so I have to come back tomorrow anyways. Then asks for my cc and says to unlatch the door opener and he will come tomorrow when I'm gone. I said I would prefer to be home. My husband was pissed and called. That guy is not welcome back! Send someone else. Okay your new window is 2-4. I ran to the store and called when I got back to let them know I was home now for the rest of the day. No tech has called yet! 10 mins now and I'm calling to cancel! "The office girl" Brea was very apologetic but nothing she can do if both her techs were flakes. He then proceeded to give the door a tune up to make sure everything was working correctly at no extra cost. Run away! My garage door wheels were off track and the door wouldn't close. I saw A-1 is a BBB member I thought that should mean something. When the guy showed up, he gave me an estimate of $189. I showed him the coupon for $60 off any repair. The guy insisted the $189 already included the discount. And then I asked about the life-time warranty on the coupon. He told me the warranty was for 30 days only. I went with it anyway since I had to fix the door ASAP due to an upcoming trip. But I truly regret it. read more

Our garage door was only 7 months old when it crumpled while closing. 3 calls to get someone out to fix it and when they finally did show up they only took photos and left. Received a call back stating that the setting on the motor was incorrect, and it would cost us $250 to fix. Hm?? Guess who set that setting??? THEY DID! Now they turn around and blame the customer. We discovered screws on our garage floor, but no nuts. Looks like they never properly tightened down the plate that pushes the door closed. What kind of workmanship is that??? Shady company! Upon arrival, the technician wanted me to sign a blank invoice before he will start the work. There was absolutely nothing written on it except a $10 gas fee. The first sentence of the terms indicated that my signature authorizes the payment of the amount shown above in the total. There was no total amount. The second sentence says that I acknowledge receipt of the work. I told him I can't sign this because no work was done. Any company asking me to sign a blank form accepting payment terms not identified and work not performed is shady or racist. He said in the past, they have had people not pay for work completed. I then said if you're not shady, you're racist. I meant the company because he said it was not his policy it was his boss and he kept calling his boss for approval. I wrote a statement in the description of the blank form stating exactly what I was paying for and the price plus tax and I signed that I agree to pay in full upon completion of the work. After talking to his boss, he comes back informing me that he's uncomfortable that I called him racist and he doesn't want to do the work for me. I clarified that I wasn't referring to him personally, but the company. He stood his ground and I said good-bye. read more

Called, described the NON mechanical repairs that were needed. Got a fairly decent quote and when the workman came out the price jacked up $71.00 which included a fuel charge that was never spoken of in the phone call, and $13 in taxes which was a complete and utter fabricated amount. I am disgruntled and will tell anybody who needs garage door repairs to go to youtube.com first, chances are you can fix so much all by yourself - unless it it busted springs. read more

So I had an issue with my Garage door. Couldn't figure it out myself so I thought I would give these guys a call since they had a coupon. So it starts with the guy saying oh well this seems like a very easy fix and it was. A simple task of pulling the cord's spring in to the correct position worked like a charm. Literally a 5 minute deal. Well the guy who worked on it says well let me spray some lube on the rails to make sure they are running smoothly. Me not thinking like oh this guy is not going to charge a lot for lube and maybe he is just doing it as a "package" for the fix, I let him. Well turns out that the whole thing cost me well over $200 bucks. The lube that the guy sprayed from a can you can get in Wal-mart cost $40 dollars and also that "inspection" called 25 point inspection was him looking at the rails. Did not move anything did not fix anything, just looked and that cost some serious $$$ as well. Once again I did not ask for this. I am sure they all do this but this one in particular needs called out so other people don't fall victim like myself. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! If I could give this company 0 stars I would. Our garage opener was installed on 9/3/2016 for $600 and not even 2 weeks later it broke. The garage fell off the track and got stuck (what if my daughter was under there?!) We called to see if someone could come out the next day as you could see into the garage and we worried about stuff being stolen. After several canceled appointments, the technician, Jeff, wrote us a quote saying that what had happened wasn't included in the warranty and it would cost an additional $300 to fix (since it was the door and not the opener) Even though they provided a "safety inspection" when the opener was installed, but I digress. We got the door put back on track and only need the (wired) button to be reset since we never received a manual. After several more canceled appointments, Jeff, the technician told me to "look up the manual online" and that he would not install the light or WiFi, which should have been included in the original installation. I was then tired of the poor customer service and afraid the door would break again in 2 weeks and asked for them to remove the opener and give us a refund. Jeff, the technician, told us it was only under warranty for 30 days (luckily it hadn't been 30 days yet) and went to his car "to call the office" and started his truck and left. He just drove off, leaving his ladder in our garage. We left multiple messages, none were returned so when we finally got a hold of the manager on Monday (today) he told us that not only would they not fix it unless we paid $90, not return/refund it, and he didn't care his technician left but that "We should be happy it worked for a week because $600 is a hell of a deal on the opener" - for the record I called multiple places to get quotes and this was par with all the others I'd received. BEWARE. STAY AWAY. They replaced the garage door opener unit. It cost me about $400 dollars. That part went fine. HOWEVER, just a few months later my garage door wouldn't close. I called them to ask for help. I was informed that they only offer a 90 day warranty and I was NINE days past that time period. They said it would cost an $85 service fee for them just to come out and look at it and then whatever labor and parts it cost to fix it. I asked if I could speak with someone else and if there was anything they could do to help me. I reminded them it cost me hundreds of dollars and I would expect it to work longer than 90 days. The lady said sorry, it's 9 days past warranty. Most companies will work with you in a situation like this to keep the customer happy, but they absolutely wouldn't budge. I asked if they could waive the service fee or something and just have someone come look at it. Again, nope. Too bad. You're 9 days out of warranty. There's nothing we can do to help you. I would NEVER recommend doing business with a company that won't work with the customer, that won't stand behind a product or a repair job. Clearly they don't care about keeping my business. I will let my friends know NOT to ever use this company and I would highly recommend you don't either. It might be fine for the install, but if you have a problem with the job, they won't flex to help you. read more

I had them come out because the door wasn't working - the only thing he did was tighten the springs - probably the most rude service person I have EVER met - I should have just given him his trip charge and had him leave !!!!! He charged $165 to tighten the springs - he told me Aurora Door ( who has been in business for ever 40 years) did not know what they were doing !! I asked him to tighten a couple of bolts on the door and he went over and slammed the drill into one and stripped it - that is when I told him he was done ! HORRIBLE Experience. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. We called yesterday to inquire about getting our garage door spring fixed (just one). The gentleman in the front office was very friendly. He told us that to repair the garage door spring, it would be $89-$150 depending on the size of the spring. We told him that we also had a $60 coupon off and he said that wouldn't be an issue. When the technician showed up today, he was extremely rude. He showed us the email the front office sent him yesterday for the referral request. They said it would be TWO springs at $100-$199 each with $40 in labor on each one. Are you kidding me!? That is OVER double what we originally quoted. We called the front office to resolve the issue and basically were told that the cheapest they would go was $150, even with the coupon. Basically the coupon is useless, so they shouldn't even issue them. We ended up having the second spring replaced as well because the technician basically told us he was going to break the second spring replacing the first one so we would have to pay for the second spring either way. Horrible service, horrible resolution from the front office. If the price was $100-199 with $40 labor for a spring, I understand. However, do not LIE to your customers and then tell your technician something else. We ended up with a technician that wanted to do a crappy job because he was upset he wasn't going to make as much money off of us as he originally thought. I've had multiple bad experiences with this company. I really like to support local small businesses, but when we've been mishandled on several occasions - that's enough! We had A1 install 2 garage doors over the summer. They gave us a quote, we gladly paid when the work was finally done (they were 2 weeks late on the install) then come to find out they charged our card the correct amount and then a day later charged our card again for another $1000.00! I had the credit card company cancel that charge as we never gave them authorization to charge another $1000.00. They called back saying that their tech gave us the wrong quote even though I had it in hand twice - once for the quote and once for the final invoice. The threat was that they could come take the doors back, we settled by giving them an extra $500.00. Then recently we had trim coming off one of the garage doors. I called for warranty repair, when the tech came out, he charged me. When I asked if it was under warranty, he said that the parts were, but not the labor. I thought that was odd since the doors are maybe 6 months old. Looked at my invoice and there it was 1 year warranty on labor. Called the company up, and was told that they would destroy the check - void payment. Checked my account and guess what, they cashed my check. Now I'm waiting for them to send me a refund.
