This review is regarding a urgent job that Luis and team performed on the 4th of July. Long story short, the night of the 3rd, when replacing a lighting fixture, our main circuit breaker switch blew, and our entire house was without power (AC included). Luis picked up his phone ASAP around midnight and said he'd contact me and come by in the morning. He came in the morning once he found the new breaker he thought i needed. (Supply houses were closed given the holiday. Given the age of our panel, Luis recommended we switch out the panel so it could properly hold the new main switch and organized wires, as they no longer make the main switch that we had which broke. Luis left and came back with another member of his team about an hour later. As our electric panel is in the basement, they worked downstairs, even when we were not at the house. They worked for about 7 hours straight and restored our power. He even helped out by confirming the light fixture was installed properly. All of this was done with a really fair price, especially considering this was on July 4th. We've had no issues since the job was done, and are grateful for the job that was done. read more

This company is not registered with New Jersey Board of Examiners for electrical contractors. I hired this Company to relocate electric meter at my house and the un-licensed workers caused fire at my house. Luis and his worker made false statement to police to cause police to file a criminal charge of theft service against me. Law is law, the criminal charge was dismissed. Be aware! I checked with Best business Bureau. I called New Jersey State, Consumer Affairs to check out this company after it caused fire at my house, no records were found. read more

Had an outdoor spigot break while getting yard work done, A1 plumber came by assessed the situation and performed the necessary repairs to my water line in the basement and installed the new spigot and shut off valve as quickly and as cleanly as one could ask for. Our apartment is on the top floor of a walkup. We were converting gas range to electric. And the wire incoming to the apartment does not have enough amperage. Louis came to visit and proposed a solution. His team was able to come in the next few days and finish the work well and professionally. A-1 does have the business electrical contractor license and insurance. And we looked up the license in the NJ consumer affairs website. Simply put, the people who work at this company are imbeciles. Yellow Pages has A1 Electric listed as servicing my area. But when I called one of their 1290381238123120 numbers available online, I was rudely told that they do not. I asked if they make exceptions for larger jobs and was again told "we do not service that area." After that the woman on the other line hanged up on me. I checked their website and I found both my town and zip code listed on there: http://www.a1electricianservice.com/#!contact/c24vq (Btw they have the wrong zip codes for each town.) I called again and here's the conversation I had: Me: Hello, I called one of your other numbers and I was told that you do not service the West New York, NJ area. But I see it listed on your website as one of the areas where you do work. Phone Operator: Whaaa? Me: I am trying to find out if you service zip code _____. Phone Operator: Yall in New Jewwwwzey? Me: Yes. Person: Yah... Me: Could you check and see if you service zip code _____? Person: Errrr, hold on for a while. After being on hold for a while, the woman proceeded to tell me how this is not the actual firm's number, but some company that "only takes messages for them." Then why is it listed on their official website? I don't get it. I decided to call yet another number that they have listed. And a third different woman told me that this was the message center AGAIN. I explained to her that I was trying to find out if they service my area. She asked me for some information (name, phone number, address) and said that she will take a message... *sigh* I hanged up on her when she asked me to spell Kennedy... even after I told her that it's spelled like the president's name. 15 minutes later I received a call from someone who introduced himself as an electrician. I explained the scope of the work to him. And he promised to "send someone over to look at it today." Nobody ever showed up. Thanks for wasting my time. I don't care if they have the most professional and knowledgeable electricians in the world. Their customer service is a joke. They should fix the service areas section on their website. They should adjust their listing on Yellow Pages. They should fire the oblivious women picking up their phones. All three of them were completely ignorant of the circumstances. And if they are only there to "take a message", well, a recording machine can do that for free. read more

A1 electric responded quickly to my call. Within hours one of their electricians was at my home. It turned out that what we were worried about was not anything that needed to be remediated. It was great to have peace of mind and the company didn't even charge me for the visit. The electrician that responded was courteous and professional and answered all of our questions. I have only good things to say about Luis and Mark. They came out when they said and on time. I felt bad for the guys, they had to wait 6 months to complete the job because of the contractor I hired, took the contractor that long just to give me the lights for the column. A1 did the underground electrical from the house to the garage and the 4 column, put an electrical box in the garage, put fog light on top of garage, some outlets and more. The amount of money I gave A1 did not cover the work they already did. But they didn't ask for more money till the job was completed 6 months later, all they were waiting for was the 4 lights to install. Great service and reasonable rates. Highly recommend. These guys came out and replaced my panel and restored power to my house.

The good: They kept to their quoted prices. The crew is nice, they're friendly, and they're eager to help and will help with things that they don't have to do (my granite was delivered and they helped the granite guys get it in the door). The bad: They were late (thus they were still working when the granite guys showed up), they're sloppy and they overcharge for things such as installing a dimmer ($125, the going rate is $50). Here's the email I sent the owner 12 minutes after he emailed me inquiring about some additional work I had mentioned (he was trying to drum up business, nothing wrong with that). This email came about 2 weeks after the original project was done. "Louis, good morning. Upon further inspection of the work done in the kitchen, we weren't as pleased as I originally thought. For example, once the recessed lights the crew installed were turned off, it became obvious they'd oversized the holes on half of them and we now have drywall to repair as there are .5-.75 inch gaps around the trim and the ceiling- unnoticeable with the bright light on but extremely noticeable once off. And the dimmer you charged $125 to install was installed upside down such that we pushed the dimmer up to turn the lights lower. Unacceptable and sloppy. Further, they didn't install the two lights in the middle in line with the first two. One was so bad they had to recut the hole and try again (they screwed the drywall back in). Thus, more repair work for us. The other is about 2 inches out of alignment and was left as is. We can either fix it and do even more repair work or live with it. For now we're choosing to live with it. Lastly, when they installed the pendant lights one was way off center. So they recut and reinstalled the light. They left the hole in the ceiling from the miscut- so we have to cut drywall, replace it and then repair it. For the amount charged this is unacceptable and we decided not to use your services again." As expected, I heard nothing back from Louis, the owner. I went with another electrician for the other work I had done and will continue to use his services or anyone else's for the rest of the work being done to my home. The work Louis' crew did for me totaled nearly $1500 with taxes. So it was no small expense to me, but clearly not enough money for him to care about the quality of the work done or apologize for any of the mistakes. It's really too bad for A1, as I probably have another $3000-$5000 worth of electrical to get done in the next few months and I need my HVAC unit repaired (I will not use them for this either). read more

I was so pleased with this company's service. Our power went out on Friday night and I called them around 9:00 pm and they came within the hour. They were able to restore partial power for us, heating and refrigerator, etc. and then power went out again on Saturday and they came back and restored partial power again until the job was able to be done on Monday. Each day we had excellent electricians and the job is now complete, having rewired our entire breaker system inside and outside. We did not go one day without some power over the 3 day weekend. I highly recommend this company for 24 hour emergencies and any electrical need. They texted us every day to tell us what time they would be there, which was very reassuring to me. read more
