Be awere that estimate can be doubled. I asked for estimate and got the best estimate on the market - $700 for my project including materials. Miguel was very responsive and came on time. Then he said that he charge $125/h with minimum 2h job. He said that he estimated my project as 4h + $200 for materials. I asked him to do an extra work and expected for 20% raise in price. But also I asked to skip doing few things (that I can do myself) to save time. He had done a decent job, but a little messy. He didn't properly cover furniture and electronics when used a mud gun... lots of dust needs to be cleaned now. He spent 9h on my project (including trip to home depot) and charged me $125 × 9h + $280 material = $1400. I understand that it's hard to estimate, but 2x times is too much for me. I don't know if he just bad at estimations or this is a "sales move". I could pick another Handyman who estimated the project as $800- $1000 Max. And I know he would not go beyond his "max". I'm so glad I found Maria and Miguel. They are professional, respectful, and quiet if you can believe that. LOL They have done several jobs for me but the largest so far is my kitchen floor. The person who lived here before put wood planks in the kitchen. The planks around the fridge were lifting and someone dripped something on it that stained. I wanted a floor that was waterproof, easy to clean, always shiny and with a retro feel. I found it in a peel and stick form. It wasn't easy finding someone to put it in so I went to Yelp and it hasn't failed me yet. They removed the old floor and took every scrap with them. The house was pristine when they left. They were meticulous and have a great eye for detail. The entire experience was unlike what I'm used to. You usually get a couple of construction guys throwing stuff around, loud and messy. Was not impressed with this "Fix it Guy" as he provided a timeframe of 10am-11am arrival. Called Miguel at almost 12:30pm as I was concerned that he was not going to be able to finish the project as he was texting stating he was at Home Depot since 10am gathering materials for closet shelves with no update since 10am. Upon speaking with Miguel finally whom stated he did not approve of my tone given that he was extremely late to an appointment he set with us, he stated he was still at Home Depot for the past 2 and a half hours and then got hungry. No communication of an ETA, then text back stating he has an "Emergency" and that the job had to be rescheduled at 1pm in the afternoon which turned out to be a complete fib given that he was not approving of my tone due to his delay in arriving. He text back the following day said my tone was very disrespectful using an "Emergency" to get out of the job which is a highly unprofessional way of running a business. They may perform efficient and exemplary work I don't know, we unfortunately did not get that far with him and his business given his very poor and lack of communication. read more
