Various types of kenafe: Ashta, Lebanese, Turkish
Mel N.

I just got back from visiting Turkey and had a major craving for künefe! I was surprised to find various types here so I ordered a couple of different variations for takeout. I tried the Lebanese kanafe, Turkish kanafe, and Ashta kanafe. The Turkish version has more texture and crisp. If you're taking it home, throw it in the airfryer for a little bit for that extra crispness! The Lebanese version is also good, with a more smooth texture and stringy cheese. The Ashta kanafe had a more floral taste to it, and the cream was so light and delicious. All of the things I tried were not too sweet and satisfied my craving! I also liked how the pistachio on top of each piece is finely crushed instead of chunky bits. These all go really well with a shot of espresso. I also ordered the Halloumi (pizza? bread?) because I love Halloumi and it was pretty good too! A good amount of sesame seeds were spread across the bread but it worked. I'll keep coming here when my cravings hit!

Amazing pastries, cookies and baklava throughout the bakery. What an amazing find. Great customer service and the sweets are beyond imaginable. Halawet al juben was amazing, petit four I can't stop eating and the graybeh just melts in your mouth. Visited Houston for two days and gained 10 lbs! Love this spot!

A Sweet factory has incredible sweets all around the store. You have so many options to choose from in terms of several different kinds of sweet delights! The staff were so sweet in helping us pick out the perfect baklava to take back to Austin with us. The Knafe was very good and flavorful. I recommend if you are in the area to grab a quick little sweet treat. The atmosphere was nice, however, it is in a more run down part of town but its definitely worth stopping by. The knafe was pretty great, not dry at all and easy to bite into with just the right amount of sweetness to it. The baklava is also super easy to bite into very flavorful and sweet. We got the pistachio baklava as we prefer the pistachio one to the walnut one and it was just the right amount of crunch.

Just visited for the first time from out of town, and the knafeh in kaak was amazing. Highly recommend their desserts! We inhaled it in less than a few minutes. Everyone was very nice there too.

Have been looking for Knafeh since moving to Houston and finally found some while out in the Harwin district shopping. Had only tried one type of Knafeh, didnt know there were several different types. This is a nice little bakery with very friendly customer service and quality Knafeh. Didn't try anything else but will always stop in when I'm out this way.

The area is a little run down but the parking is easy and the pastries are very good. It's a big place with plenty of seating. If you get it to go there package it up very securely and professionally.

Came here yesterday for some sweets. I've been here many years ago and was craving their desserts yet again. Parking is a bit rough since the parking lot appears to be in bad shape. As soon as I entered, I was greeted by a kind older lady. She answered any and all questions I had about which sweets had what. It would definitely be nice if they had labels in front of each item though as I quickly forgot what she had said. I ordered about $20 worth of goodies with one of them being baklava. The other two that I ordered, I'm not sure what they're called, but they have a creamy filling. What I loved most was they all weren't super sweet; they were just right. Will definitely be back!

The best black sesame latte in Houston…read more I'm always looking for black sesame flavored drinks ever since I tried it in Seattle, so I was excited that TwoTone had it. The nuttiness of the sesame goes SOOO well with the espresso taste and it's a good creaminess too. I also like the texture of the bits of sesame seeds in the drink. The aesthetic of the cafe is modern with street-style flairs, it's a really cool space. I also love that there are Filipino flavors on the menu like ube and pandan. Most workers are super nice and say your name like they know you. They're also super attentive to ensure that everything with your order is perfect. Jonah was very welcoming and helpful, making sure we got a menu while in line! The weekdays seem to be better for wait-time, with little to no wait. The weekends however are packed and usually have lines. If you're not a line person, I would definitely come on a weekday. TwoTone is probably the best specialty coffee you can get in Houston, especially in terms of Asian flavors and creaminess. If it was closer to inner Houston, I would probably come here everyday.

You can tell they care about quality, and I absolutely understand why this place stays busy. That being said, the wait time was very long. I waited about 30 minutes from the time I ordered to actually receiving my coffee, and this was on a Wednesday around 10 a.m. I'm not sure if that's their normal flow, but it was packed. Thankfully I didn't have anywhere to be, because if you're stopping in before work or during a tight schedule, definitely plan ahead and expect a wait. The only real downside for me was the timing and ordering process. Spending close to $10 on one coffee plus waiting that long makes this feel more like an occasional treat rather than an everyday coffee run. I'll admit I may have been a little cranky from the wait, but I do think it's fair feedback. Overall though, my coffee was delicious, and because of that, I would absolutely give them another chance. Good things take time, I guess.

White Dubai chocolate bar - $11 - I think I'll stick to the dark chocolate or milk chocolate varieties as this was a little too sweet for me. It was a good bar, with plenty of pistachio cream and crushed kataifi on the inside. Adeni chai - ($5) - Not as creamy as the Adeni chai I had at Royal Roastery but this was aromatic and had strong cardamom flavors. I ordered a 16oz pistachio Frappuccino, a Turkish baklava and another round pastry. The Frappuccino did have a rich flavor of pistachio that did not taste artificial while still keeping some of the coffee flavor and the sweetness was just right by not being too sweet or the lack there of. The Turkish baklava had a nice crunch to it due to the outer layer and on the inside was a smooth creamy texture both pairing well with each other. The other dessert or pastry, I'm not sure on the name but it was my favorite. It also had the same crunch as the baklava but the center had a sweet nuttiness to it that reminded me of a Mexican dessert, although small the flavors made up for it. Service is pretty quick as there seems to be about 3 maybe 4 employees behind the counter and the area is very large with a seating area that is just as large.

Dubai chocolate ($6) - This consisted of a large milk chocolate bar filled with rich pistachio cream and kataifi (crispy shredded phyllo dough). It tasted amazing and much better than most places selling these. Pricing was reasonable. Overall I enjoyed my latte and dessert. The interior has some Yemeni decor and there is quite a bit of seating. The only negative is that I wish they had more sweet and snack offerings.

I actually loved my first visit, I came back with my husband the next day. I first ordered the pistachio latte hot. I asked for light syrup and low fat milk which was perfect for me. It had chunks of pistachio in it which was cool. The second day I came back with my husband and he ordered the same pistachio latte but full sweet and I got the pandan latte with light ice, light foam, and low fat milk. They incorporate the low fat milk well as some places tend to burn it. The pandan was great and I'm not even a ice coffee lover. Smooth, creamy. I could not really taste the pandan but the matcha came across. I asked the barista about their syrups and beans. I learned that most of their syrups are made in house and they get their beans from a family friend. They used to make their own and are thinking about doing it again which is a great sign of a quality shop. For sure a great little place.
