I was in San Diego for the Marine Corps Ball and I wanted to get my hair done. I found A Style Concierge by looking on Yelp and I want to thank my fellow yelpers for steering me the right way. When you first walk in there is a shop on the lower lever with cute clothes, shoes and accessories. When you walk upstairs you enter the salon portion. Maria did my hair in a retro pinup style and I LOVED IT! She did a fabulous job! I showed her a very basic picture of what I wanted and man did she deliver. My husband LOVED my hair too. Another great thing was that it only cost $45 to have my hair done. I have never paid less than $65 at other places so this was a total deal! I'm new to San Diego and have been struggling to find a stylist to deal with my hair. With my schedule always being changed from day to day, it was also hard to commit to a time or place. That being said I did a Yelp search since I had an evening off to try to do something with my hair. I had it colored a few weeks before but the color came out awful. I was desperate to have the color correction done and this salon was able to fit me in. Showed up and found the cute little clothing shop in front with the salon upstairs. Very chic looking as far as decor goes. I got checked in and was offered a drink and given a small locker to put my sweater away since they offered the cover robe. My stylist was Tony, who has quickly become my angel in hair. He sat with me and really listened to the issues I had with my hair. He had recommended a particular red color but I told him I wanted to avoid any purple tones. He then showed my a few option online just to make sure he knew exactly what I meant. After we found a hair color I liked, he then talked me through the process of what the color correction might do to my hair and what I would have to do to maintain it. It was a huge help to really understand that the color I wanted would be a huge process and expensive to maintain so I appreciated that info. He got started on my hair and was very kind to make sure to be delicate to my scalp during the process. I suffer from Lupus so it is always a process to explain to a stylist what they need to avoid to cause me pain. He was a fun guy to talk to and was constantly throwing compliments at me about my hair as well as how "GORGEOUS" it would look when it was done. He took his time and made sure it was exactly what I wanted. Even adding highlights to it for added effect. Another gal jumped in to help during the process the make sure I got out of there at a decent hour. All in all, a great place to go. Tony really seems to love what he does and I have gone back once already to get a trim. So glad I have a stylist to go to now and is always eager to make you look great before you leave his chair. He will gently promote their hair line products without that car salesman approach which I SOOOOO appreciated. He also was good at noticing when I just wanted to be silent and enjoy the experience. Tisso is a freakin' genius. It is rare that you find a stylist who does color and cut with equal skill. I am convinced that he can do anything. Before him, I flew up to San Francisco to get my hair done (because that's where I am from, and well, I'm loyal like that). And then I met Tisso... all of the skill of my previous stylist and he's in my own back yard! Oh, and Tisso isn't as expensive as my previous stylist. WIN! I went in for a waxing appointment with a friend about two weeks ago. We first noticed the salon because they claimed eyebrow and upper lip waxing was just $10 - what a great deal right? After confirming the price over the phone, we get there and are told they're running late, no problem since there's a boutique downstairs. About 15 minutes later they come get us and inform us that the price for the services is $25, not $10 as advertised. Not only did they not honor the advertised price, but the girl runs out with a sharpie and scratches out the price. We then find out there's no waxing area, rather they sit you in the shampooing chairs. This wasn't an issue, what was an issue was that the girl spent half my appointment waxing me and washing the girl sitting next to me's hair. My wife and I were visiting the store below this salon, The Dolcetti Boutique, when we overheard yelling upstairs in the salon. The store is set up with an open staircase leading from the shop to the salon so you are able to see the salon while you shop. We were enjoying the store when we overheard loud yelling. Being nosey we peeked up to see a male hairstylist yelling at a young female customer. It was awkward for us and another lady in the store. We overheard him yell and watched her come downstairs , poor girl looked almost in tears. We contiuned to look around and then overheard a woman, maybe a manager? , come down and speak to her. She took up for that guy! We couldn't believe she didnt apologize and that she actually defended him and had a serious attitude. My wife had mentioned this might be a good place to get her hair done but after overhearing this she, nor I ,would return here. They might want to fix their customer service! Concierge at the W highly recommended them. Needed a wash/blow out after a very long run along Mission Beach to La Jolla Cove. My hair was all stinky and stuck to my head. The concierge was quoted $35 - excellent price; hate the gouging out there for this service. My stylist was this amazingly mature and engaging young woman of 23; poised and professional-Janean. Better than the glass of wine I got - she made my hair look absolutely amazing - flipped up at the ends, shiny, lustrous - i wish i lived out here so I could visit her at this Salon. Very nice people. When I checked out, the bill was $40. I informed her that I was quoted $35 and she told me that it starts at $35. The concierge had confirmed the price for me and I mentioned that to her. She adjusted the price to $35 right away. I LOVE this place - and I'm a guy :p As a designer, I'm often judged on my appearance by clients and coworkers so am under a bit more pressure to look good than other professions may be and so, hairstyle is important. When I moved to San Diego, I visited a couple of barber shops and salons but none of them felt "right" to me. They were all good places, but just didn't have that connection for me. When I came to Style Concierge, I immediately recognized it as a cool place with trendy staff and store (by the way, it's on the mezzanine level of a trendy, almost indie clothing store) that was inviting. The staff is super helpful and inviting and always want to make sure you're comfortable and enjoy your time there. After having my hair cut by three different stylists, I knew I had found my place and stylist. Cassandra. Cassandra is a great stylist with a real talent to make you look good even if you don't know what style you're going for. I would tell her to "do what you think looks good" every visit and was never disappointed. She often kept to a similar style each visit but varied it depending on her mood and the season to match anticipated attires. During my first appointment with Maria, she took her time to listen to my needs, likes, and my hairs' styling history :). Regardless of how much my ends needed to be cut (2 to 3 inches), Maria respected my wishes and only cut one inch. She is the professional, and I listened to her professional coloring opinion which was the best coloring job EVER. I asked for the haircut and took me without a question. (Yes just asking me if I wanted something to drink ;)) I was like... However, since some people like lots of details, this part of the review is for you: Renee is a Glenda-the-good-witch amazing with her scissors: she gets my hair to look great inspite of the cow-lick that has plagued me since middle school. I've been following Renee, this is "our" third salon, since I first found her years ago in Coronado. I can style it conservatively for the office or playful for date night with my wife, and it looks good either way. I love how I look after she works me over with her magic shears. Renee also cuts my 70-year old mom's hair perfectly ever time. Now don't get me wrong, I love my mom....but she at this point in her life, she is very particular about her hair style. Yet she is always is so complimentary after she sees Renee. But wait, there's more: Renee also cuts and styles my 12-year old son and 10-year old daughter. They love her personality; I love that we can get an extra 2-3 weeks from the cut because Renee's styling allows the hair to flow where it wants and still look great. The salon is inside a store front, through a cute, little clothes boutique, up the stairs in the middle of the shop (you can't miss them!), and check-in at the desk. I was impressed that they carried the latest Aveda products, you can tell they have a great relationship with their Aveda rep. The space is open and airy, the prices are more competitive (much better!) than other salons and you get top-notch service. You receive a 20% off referral card as well. Renee was my stylist, she took great care in preserving my hair from any further damage by using Olaplex properly - there is a technique in using it - and was able to have my hair done in a relatively short amount of time by hair-processing standards. I felt comfortable that she understood what I wanted so I let her get to work. She skillfully colored my hair and it came out PERFECT!!! I also wanted a cut (I didn't really have pictures this time for the cut so I described what I wanted) and she gave me exactly what I wanted. I'm not even confident that I described it fully, but she understood and delivered!!! FINALLY! A salon I can call home! Amanda was really sweet and definitely skilled in her craft! The salon was clean and the other stylists/receptionists/owners were all very friendly. I'm so thankful I came across them!! I came in yesterday to get a haircut from a stylist there named Kelly - best haircut of my life! I have a ton of hair, and to boot- it's long and thick. This salon was close to the hotel I was staying at for a friends wedding. I found out about 'A Style Concierge' through Issac (one of the stylists), who works there. I met Issac at Diesel and then followed him to this other salon, because he really is THAT Bad Ass!!! Everyone who works there was uber friendly, and very talkative and welcoming and they joke with you. They are all so great! I was laughing and having an awesome time, on top of getting a stellar hair style! I haven't had any of the others there cut my hair, but Issac is a hair genius, PLUS he really cares about the health of your hair. When someone REALLY cares about your appearance and hair health, it really makes you feel attractive and taken care of. Plus he's totally willing to be edgy and daring with you... you have no idea how hard it is to find someone willing to do extremes. He's fun!!! The only thing that makes it somewhat of an inconvenience is the parking since it's all metered street parking. BUT when I went there, Issac paid attention to the time for me, so I wouldn't have to worry about it, AND when the meter needed more money he froggered it across the street dodging the cars to make sure that my car was totally cool. So it wasn't that bad. Also, in most salons when you have to wait for a while when your hair color chemicals are doing their dealio, you'll be chillin' in your chair either looking at a magazine or just sitting there. BUT this salon is a boutique as well, so you can get up and look at all the things they have for sale. It's kind of cool if you are interested in getting some new stuff, of if you just wanna look. It's nice to get up and walk around and not have to sit there not doing anything. It's a good experience and I have nothing but awesome things to say about this place. After being a regular client of 'A Style Concierge' for about 3 years, I've never had the same hairstylist twice. I didn't really care too much about this because all of them have ranged from being good to awesome. Yesterday I called the salon for an appointment, it said they were open from 1pm till 8pm. I called every hour and nobody answered. I even left a voicemail asking if they could call me back ASAP. (I don't think they check their voicemails ever because I've left them one before and never heard back) Again, I have not heard anything, so today I try again and nobody answers again.
