this review is overdue but totally necessary to finally include in my mostly restaurant reviews…read more :) don't think that 'mold' is describing dusty fusty damp leaky basements...you're not even close. bales is a company that deals with metal refinishing and replating. and they're FANTASTIC at it. here's why i used their services... i have a metal sink (hammered nickel) in the kitchen island. the before pix says it all: blackened, corroded, and just plain ugly after 9 years of constant use; it's a sink, and hey, it's used every day. i contacted Waterworks where it was originally purchased and the company does not refinish their own product. but for a few hefty $$K they're happy to replace it with a new one. yeah. right. i did some homework and talked to int'l. silverplating, glencoe, who unfortunately didn't have the machinery required to replate a piece of this size/shape. his referral, however, was gratefully welcome, and i trekked to courtesy metal polishing, villa park, il. couldn't help me either due to the shape/sink size...but didn't give me any suggestions either re: another company who maybe COULD replate the piece. not a good vibe there and left in a huff. thanks a lot, charlie. after a few more google searches; (thank you internet) i found bales, drove over to downers grove and talked to dean and showed him the sink. he was absolutely terrific; gave some thought about how to do the job, gave me an estimate right on the spot and i left him the sink with instructions to take as long as necessary... no rush. i was called back within 2 weeks that the sink was finished and was ready to be picked up. john, the manager, and i chatted when i arrived as dean was OOT; everyone at this company i met was terrific to deal with...the receptionist at the front door could give lessons in great service. the replated sink was perfect; i'll post the after pix as well. a great, lucky find and a great ending to a somewhat uncertain start of the sink saga.

I believe she is an honorable business woman and probably does great work (they were recommended to me by Tim Samuelson, the retired cultural historian of Chicago), but I no longer had the time to navigate their business practices.
