If you ever need something to warm your tummy and warm your heart, this is a great place to visit. When I arrived, there was a nice young gentleman who greeted me by opening the door. What makes this place so special is their mission. Their mission is to provide training and employment to adults with developmental disabilities. How special, beautiful and much needed! Everyone here was so joyful and helpful. Anytime you need a pick me up, a friendly face or encounter, please please please stop here! I received a special badge of honor while visiting and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Six years ago, I was the first to review ASB. Very happy to report that they continue to be a strong positive option for coffee, tea, and community! Friendly staff and today my chai latte had a beautiful holiday bow artfully crafted in the foam.

Wow, I think I found my new favorite coffee shop! This place smells absolutely so good! The staff is filled with so much joy and hospitality. My drink was so delicious and not too sweet. There are so many options for drinks, pastries, and even ice cream! It is also a beautiful location to come work in because there are so many seating options. I cannot wait to come back here the next time I am in town. I am so pleased with my experience here. This is a must visit.

Lots of space to sit and chat or get some work done.

Throughout our lives, we will do many things that we wish we would have handled differently. If only we had the wisdom and perspective that we have when we are older, but alas, when we are young and learning, mistakes can be made and yet, invaluable life lessons can be learned. Even bigger than that, we can take those lessons learned and use it to make a positive impact on the world When I was young, I was bullied a lot by the kids at school. As with most kids who are bullied, I tended tend to gravitate to another group and suddenly I found myself picking on someone else. As much as I dreaded being made fun of by the kids, I partook in the neighborhood kids making fun of Ellen Rubenstein, a girl with down syndrome who lived on our block. We called her names and we excluded her and even then I knew it was wrong and hurtful. And yet, I participated!! So what do you do with that life experience? When I found myself the Executive Director of the Community Theatre of Greensboro, I saw an opportunity to include the special needs community, and in my own way, try to makeup for my insensitivity as a kid. Subsequently, this population has flourished at the Community Theatre of Greensboro, with a concerted effort to accommodate our special needs population in classes and shows and also including a program called Onstage and Inclusive that we created specifically targeted towards engaging the special needs community. It has been lifechanging for the participants and has educated our theatre community on inclusiveness and advocacy. So you can imagine my sense of Joy when I found out A Special Blend opened on Market Street a few years ago. This is a wonderful coffee shop that is managed and run and staffed by members of the special needs community. Here they learn a trade, have jobs and grow in leaps and bounds in their abilities to thrive in our community. What I did not know until my first visit is that so many of my ex-actors and actresses from CTG's Onstage and Inclusive and The Wizard of Oz work at A Special Blend. I met a friend of mine there the other day. He enjoyed a fruit smoothie and a danish and I had an iced tea made out of green tea. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Located in an easily accessible shopping strip on West Market Street near Holden, A Special Blend has outside seating as well as plenty inside. Usually a greeter at the door sets the tone as you walk inside and can feel the appreciation of everybody there that you have chosen A Special Blend to spend some of your time and enjoy some of their offerings. I even ran into Cameron who was one of our actors who has an affinity for the weather. I can always count on him to tell me what's in store when a storm is coming! Lol I would highly recommend you checking this place out. The prices are right, the site is spacious and inviting and you are supporting our special needs community that thrive with opportunities like this at A Special Blend. I may have hurt Ellen Rubinstein as a child, but I am so happy I have been able to turn that into supporting CTG, our special needs population, while enjoying the special treatment I receive in a special place by our special needs community! Give it a shot!

I will forever rave about this place! It makes me smile to go in and enjoy a wonderful coffee! The workers are so nice and fun to talk to! Will continue to come back time after time!! Definitely want to check out the high point location

We parked right in front and were greeted by a young gentleman who opened the door and greeted us. Katie, Megan, and I didn't get the other workers' name, gave us suggestions on what to try. They all were friendly, engaging, and polite workers. We each ordered something different, and all commented on how good our drinks were. This is a good space to work out of since it's not that noisy in there. They also sell ice cream and other merchandise items. They have a TV and there was mention of free sign language classes being offered.

Hands down one of my favorite coffee shops in the area. Not only do I love their mission, but the coffee is always delicious. One of my favorite drinks to get is the dirty chai. It always has a great cinnamon/chai flavor. They have a lot of different milk options which is great if you're dairy free. The prices are affordable, especially compared to other local coffee shops. The inside has a lot of space and is a great area to get work done. They also have a lot of local events there which is worth looking into because they're pretty cool. The service is always great - they really make sure to get your drink and order correct. Last time, I got the cheese bagel with jalapeño cheddar cream cheese and it was absolutely delicious. The bagel has so much cheese. Sometimes you have to wait a little bit for your food/drink but I think it's absolutely worth it

best thing about being here is they're open for coffee and things that go with coffee including cookies, scones, sammiches, and non-pop brand tarts. as a bonus the coffee is actually very good even though it was way too hot to drink for the first ten or twelve minutes I was sitting ;-) clean comfortable little shop with a variety of seating options and table toppings: sinky chairs and straight backs to fit coffee tables, regular tables, and counter heights... with bits of art on the wall that are available for purchase. the coffee menu is pretty standard; there's about a dozen ways to get coffee-and-lightener and a similar number of non-coffee options for y'all no-bean odd balls :-) not like I'm going to make the trip up from lake norman on a regular basis but if I lived near here I'd be back.

Tried this place by chance today. Was in the neighborhood. Nice subtle interiors and super cool and friendly staff! We tried the Summerfield (lavender and honey), latte and the kids had vanilla milkshake and brownies. We also tried the raspberry tart on Austin's recommendation and it was really nice. Everything was made to perfection and it was one of the best lattes I have had in a while! I really like the purpose and ambition of this place. It's a very noble initiative, Providing employment to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Kudos guys! Give the place a try!

I might be late to the party but I'm glad I showed up! How did I not know this place existed ?!…read moreEverything about my experience today showed that the owners are focused on quality. Quality coffee, quality service and quality interactions. This is not a place to visit if you're in a hurry but that's good on so many levels. The baristas and owners take their time with each customer to make sure the drinks are perfect. I was provided a description of different types of roast and didn't feel rushed while I chose from a selection of seasonal offerings. I opted for the Caramel Miso latte with macadamia nut milk (no extra charge for the milk). Such a delicious balance of slight sweetness with the savory miso and nutty milk. It was perfect. I also got a bag of beans and they ground them up right there. They have a selection of pastries that I didn't try but definitely will next time. What really stood out to me was that even though a line formed out the door, no one seemed to mind waiting and no one was annoyed when the owner stopped taking orders to come and make sure my drink and others were satisfactory. Again, a quality experience. The cafe is only open three days a week which is probably a blessing because I'd spend all my money in there every day.

The café is definitely cozy and cute, only three tables and a couch so it feels very busy during peak times. The cafe is only open Thursday-Saturday, which makes it tough to visit, but the quality makes it worth planning for. A lot of my friends who love coffee rave about the place. One of the things I really love is that they roast their coffee right there, so you're getting a super fresh, close-to-table experience and they know the story of the bean and their origins. The staff was polite and helpful when I was ordering. I got the seasonal gingerbread latte, which the staff was raving about and featured very fresh ingredients (ginger and two other ingredients that were made with love) and I chose milk from Homeland Creamery. I also grabbed a seasonal fruit tart that was from Camino Bakery in Winston-Salem, which was a perfect treat. I like that it is a local bakery too. They also allow you to bring your own cup, which I plan to do next time. I purchased a bag of coffee to make at home and was happy to get a discount, such a nice perk! I'll definitely be back. Just wishing they were open more days, because the coffee is worth the wait.

I remember the vibes were pretty welcoming. I have gone once since then but during the day and the vibes were pretty chill and low-key but nothing too crazy. Just a typical experience but also a really good college outing memory. The matcha I had from there wasn't particularly my favorite but they used to keep their espresso machine up at night during the performance, I'm not completely sure if I remember correctly if they sold liquor or alcohol but the drink that I did have from there the first time I went was pretty good. The ambiance is pretty normal for greensboro, I feel like almost every establishment you walk in, there will be cracked floors but I just remember the staff was pretty awesome and as far as pastries, they had a pretty good variety and gluten free options and other food sensitivity options. I believe a few years ago, I recall an episode of "Catfish" where Nev and Max also visited this place so that was pretty interesting to experience that but honestly a pretty decent place.

But today was the day! As soon as you show up, you know this isn't your typical coffee shop. The outside of the place looks like it could be an Inn in the neighborhood (which who knows maybe it was at one point.) The vibe inside gives off quiet workspace/library, and definitely gives off the lobby of an Inn (think Gilmore Girls.) There was some people scattered around but I didn't take a deep look inside since I was just passing by. I ordered my ice vanilla latte. The first thing I remember realizing was that it wasn't very sweet. Which is not a bad thing, sometimes they can be made really sweet other times they can be not so sweet. This latte was in the middle. I could taste the creaminess from the oat milk too. I would definitely check this place out again and try out some of their other drinks that they offer. I would even like to stay in and work inside and see more of the environment inside.

Though most seats were filled when I visited, it was super quiet, like a library. I felt a little uncomfortable having a conversation, afraid of bothering others. I'm not sure if it's always that quiet or not. Street parking is somewhat limited, but there is a church with a parking lot just across the street. That said, I visited on Easter, so the church lot was full, but we were still able to find a spot to parallel park at the end of the street. They serve a decent variety of coffee and other drinks, but have a limited food/pastry menu. I got an iced lavender vanilla latte with oat milk, which is something I order at a lot of places. Sometimes, the lavender tastes so artificial it reminds me of eating soap -- I think certain brands of syrup taste better than others. That was not the case here. I don't know what brand they use, but it must be one of the better ones, because it tasted mild and delicious. Both lavender and vanilla came through. The espresso was smooth and not bitter. The ratios of everything were great as well -- not too much oat milk but not too little -- the perfect latte.
