First of all, the town of Wayne is so quaint and friendly. The Small Town Bakery resides in what used to be the General Store. It has evolved into a delightful breakfast and lunch spot, as well as having plenty of baked goods to take out. We love to grab sandwiches for taking out on the boat or to sit in the dining area. The staff makes the simplest sandwich like the BLT with incredible fresh bread, thick bacon and plenty of lettuce and fresh tomato. If you want something special, try the Andro Boatworks. It is wonderfully messy and delicious. They have lots of pies, cinnamon snails, pecan rolls, cinnamon rolls, donuts, terrific turnovers, and the list goes on. Oh, and did I mention beer and wine as well as fresh coffee! read more

Ordered take-out from here, and couldn't be happier with my decision. They served up a top-notch lobster roll at a reasonable price, all the while with good safety precautions. They served the lobster in a separate cup, which is the first time I've seen that done - and I actually liked it. It allowed me to distribute the lobster over the bun as I wanted it. Same for the butter - also DIY. I'll certainly be ordering from here next time I'm in Wayne, Maine. read more

Love this close to home place for scratch prepared bakery items and the most amazing Quiche, yeast rolls! I always look for their booth at the Wayne farmer market to purchase a vegetarian focaccia for Saturday night no cool dinners!! The service is genuine and always with a warm smile! "A small town bakery" does not properly capture the amazingness and essence of this lovely, small town store! I stumbled upon the Wayne Maine Geberal store, while passing through town in search of a new home, and was pleasantly surprised by how warm, cozy and accommodating this place was! I had the most amazing, handmade Panini with all fresh ingredients, including the herb and cheese bread it was served on! The woman who helped me behind the counter was so courteous and friendly and kind! I had a very specific sandwich in mind and she did not fall short of my expectations in catering to exactly what I was looking for! The result was beyond amazing and delicious and I savor every single bite! The towns farmers market is also located right next to the store downtown and their staff participates, as well! It is a very lovely, small downtown area, with no much to going on; but if you find yourself in the area, don't pass this one up! We had a a donut, a rasberry muffin, a blueberry muffin, and a cinnamon roller. The muffins weren't overly sweet, which was fantastic. The fruit was allowed to shine. The rasberry muffin was a little drier than I'd prefer, but the blueberry muffin had a perfect consistency. Our 7 year old loved his donut. He said it tasted like sassafras, but I don't know how reliable that take is! The cinnamon roller had a great flavor, and a chewy texture. Overall, a good experience. We would have had a sandwich but the kitchen closes at 3, and we had come in around 2:40 and they were already cleaning up. . read more

Julie catered my rehersal dinner for my wedding, which was no small feat given the wide arragment of dietary restrictions within my guests (some folks were vegan, gluten free, no shellfish, etc). My oh my did Julie nail it! Everything was raved about! She made a Maine lobster dinner with chowder and pie for those who ate meat, two quiches for vegans and tons of gluten free options! It was really something. Also as a southern gal, I wanted a biscuit bar at the wedding. I couldn't trust just anyone to make my biscuits though. Julie went through a few trials and made the most authentic, fluffy, buttery southern style biscuits this side of the Mississippi! All my southern family was impressed. Honestly folks. Those yeast rolls are amazingly good. I bought them at the Sunday farmers market in Belgrade Lakes when I was up there last summer. This summer, I bought the buttermilk biscuits, and they were also great. I only wish that my local grocery store here in Boston carried the full line of products from A Small Town Bakery! read more

Part of the Wayne General Store. Great bakery with all the good stuff like creme horns, bread, donuts, cookies, etc. Really friendly and nice. Small place with big feel. Great atmosphere inside and out. Grad a sandwich and go sit by the water and dam in downtown Wayne. We went to the store and then had ice cream next door and walked around the dam and bridge. I am a foodie when it comes to breakfast. Having lived in Philadelphia and tried many top-of-the-line breakfast joints in the city, none of these hipster places come close to the vibe, community and quality at the General Store. Can someone be in love with a cute deli? Because if so; I am. We didn't have a chance to run to the market today so we did all three meals here. I don't know where to begin! Today I literally had the best french toast and avocado toast I have ever had. Followed by an amazing Italian sub, and for dinner tonight, we ordered the fish tacos, which are a part of their weekly menu. They were delicious! Ordered a couple of sandwiches to tide us over on a long road trip. They were delicious, very nice bread, the pickles WERE AWESOME. DELICIOUS PICKLES. I understand they bake their own bread, and that is awesome. My one and only issue which takes this review from a 5 star down to a 4, is the wait. I understand that there is a thing called "Maine Time" and that is fine, but 30 minutes for two sandwiches to go is absolutely ridiculous. Come on.
