First impressions matter - Adam took the time to walk us through the entire remodeling process from start to finish when meeting with us the first day, even before we had hired him. Other contractors we met with just threw out a price, some never called us back. But you could easily tell that Adam is passionate about his work, regardless of the size of the job. 2. Organized and transparent - Adam provided a detailed written plan that listed every step of the project from start to finish, including all of the necessary permits/inspections, and the total price indicating when payment would be due after completion of major steps. This allowed us to follow exactly what was happening throughout the job and know when payment would be due. 3. Great communication - Adam and his office manager, Claudia, were great at letting us know when workers would be by the house, what work would be done, when inspections were scheduled, etc. They always tried to make the disruptions caused by the work as minimal as possible. 4. Help with design (if you want it) - We took Adam up on his offer to take one morning to visit stores to obtain all of the fixtures for our bathroom. Adam provided some great design input but was never overly pushy. He allowed us to let him know what our dream bathroom looked like and helped to make it happen. 5. Quality of work - All of the workers did a great job on what they specialize in (plumbing, tile, etc.). All materials and fixtures were brought to the house by the workers and the house was tidied up at the end of each day. They allowed us to use the bathroom for two weeks to see if anything needed to be touched up/adjusted before making final payment to make sure that we were completely satisfied with their work. Adam and his team are amazing. They did the whole interior for my house, about 3300 sq ft. Brand new floors, redesign, remodeled kitchen, and 4 bathrooms. After living in it for about a year, no issues to report! To me, Adam's strength is helping people with the design. I had many contractors bid, but they all relied on my design and layout. As I have never designed a house, it was not my strong suit. Adam was extremely helpful with ideas, restructuring, color schemes, and general advice. He even went to stores with me to pick out finished materials and even negotiate prices! I saved thousands as Adam has contacts all over and able to get even better prices that just "contractor" discounts. Was everything perfect and was there never any tension between us? No, but if you think that is possible with this scale then you may be delusional. When your house is old, issues will arise, but Adam will have a great idea of how to resolve it. If there was an issue that was due to his crew, he took ownership of it and fixed it at his expense. How many others would do this? Compared to many others that went with different contractors, I was smooth sailing. Adam took care of the permits, personally walked the inspector through to avoid any issues, and had regular contact with vendors and subcontractors. My wife and I were incredibly impressed and more than satisfied by the work done by A+, and especially our experience with our project manager, Moshe. We were won over quickly by how appreciative they were of the historical details of our house and how committed they were with preserving or recreating them to maintain the character of our home. The project was to renovate our kitchen, turn a small half bathroom and laundry room into a large bathroom, and replace a carpeted floor with bamboo. My wife and I had never gone through a remodel before, but Moshe was an excellent resource and really helped us understand the process and lessen the disruption to our lives as much as possible, particularly by making sure that all major decisions were made before construction started, so we would not have to wait on making decisions or for appliances etc. to be delivered. Once the project started, Moshe came by our house nearly every day and was very available by phone or text if we ever had any questions or concerns. It also gave us the chance to check in with him every day so he could explain what was happening, the timeline of events, and to make sure no details were being missed and that the crew always understood what we were asking for. Working with Moshe was much more of a collaboration than I thought it would be, which was great because my wife and I were often asking for his recommendations when it came to most everything, whether it was choosing a ceiling fan, an appliance, or learning what brands make good cabinet handles. In addition, Moshe could also usually find us discounts on whatever we were buying from vendors he works with. My wife and I were on a pretty rigid schedule with a baby on the way. Moshe always kept our schedule in mind and worked hard to get our project done on time and make sure he was always communicating with us about everything to keep us from getting stressed out if we didn't know what was going on. Once the actual work on the house began, the whole process only took 4 months, and all of our friends and neighbors are so impressed by it! Moshe was great managing all the workers coming to the house and we always felt very well cared for. Now that our project is over, my wife and I actually miss seeing him every day! We would definitely work with A+ and Moshe for any of our future construction/renovation needs and can't recommend them highly enough. (Apparently, I had put my review in the wrong place!!! Sorry, Yelp, mea culpa) Quality work! We are so happy with the work of A plus design and remodeling! They pay attention to the details and do such quality work. Adam anticipated issues that might arise and thought of things that we might need in the future. We have a toddler and Adam always kept that in mind on every step of the remodel. For example, he made sure the right railings were installed to make sure a little one could not get stuck or injured, and took the time to have them re-done when he saw that there was a small gap at the end where a toddler's arm or foot could get stuck! Their work is very well done and the remodel looks beautiful. We still get compliments from random strangers who pass by our house. There are little touches that make such a big difference, like the paving stone driveway or the matching ironwork. Adam has a good eye for making the entire job look unified and well-planned. We get asked about our house so often that we keep a stack of A-Plus business cards by our door! I want to get this review up, but when I have a chance I will add pictures so you can see for yourself. Overall, Adam and his team were very easy to work with and everything was very upfront. We were very pleased with the transparency Adam operates with, and he really stands behind his work! He quickly took care of any detail that wasn't quite right, even things we never would have noticed, like the gap in our guardrail. Let me begin by explaining that our restoration project involves an insurance claim and doesn't align with the large scale projects A Plus normally takes on, so I won't be able to comment on the work. Despite this, Adam (the owner) came out to provide a free estimate because we found him on Angie's list and he wanted to honor the request. This was the first thing that impressed me and there's more... I'm giving Adam a 5-star review because of the stellar way in which he conducted himself and educated us about the process which we were about to engage in. Not only did he spend a good amount of time listening to our concerns around the damages he freely shared his deep knowledge on a variety of topics and on how best to proceed given the complexities of dealing with insurance companies. In a world of less than scrupulous contracting companies (I've already met a few of them and if you have, you know what I mean), Adam quickly impressed us as being not only deeply knowledgeable but ethical and trustworthy. I only wish I could have hired him for this job but completely appreciated his coming out to help us all the same! What we were left with after a session with Adam, was a very well constructed line item quote, that we can take to our insurance company, education and wisdom from an experienced professional, and a greater sense of comfort around our next steps. I didn't get work done by them- we only got an estimate. They first guy they sent out was okay. The second guy they sent out is a salesman. All sale talk- do not know the local jurisdiction or residential code of the city- using scare tactic. My husband is an architect/engineer and we ask them about the residential requirements- they giving us bs answer and the price is way too high compare with the local contractors. Ex: told us the new roof had to meet the solar code- no, the roof should be ready and able to handle the solar panels - not a mandate. read more

Hiring a contractor is a process that is fraught with uncertainty for many homeowners. We have all heard stories of dishonest contractors who underperform on the work, overcharge on the price, mysteriously disappear for lengthy periods and generally make life miserable. The first thing I have to say about Adam Simon and A Plus is that you will never have a question about his honesty and integrity. From the beginning, he was absolutely transparent about costs, and with regard to details where for some reason it was impossible to give us precise estimates, he took care to make sure we understood the various factors which could impact the final cost. That in itself should be enough to make you want to hire him, but there are many other reasons. Adam remodeled our kitchen/dining room as well as the master bathroom, a powder room and some other incidentals. This was a project that involved not only A Plus as the contractor, but also the purchase of new appliances and fixtures as well as hiring an outside cabinet maker. Adam was fully involved in every aspect of this process even though he made no money from doing so. For example, he twice took us shopping for appliances and fixtures and worked hard to get us the best price possible. Similarly, he went with us to meet the cabinet maker and provided valuable input on materials, design, and costs. He also helped us significantly with the design of our project, and the fact that we were and are so pleased with the outcome is in large part due to his input. Adam initially did a small bathroom remodel for us. However, due to the relationship we developed with him augmented by the exceptional work he did, we had him come back and do a complete remodel of our other bathroom as well as our kitchen. My husband and I had been dreaming about the day we could remodel our out dated Bathroom. We were finally at a point where we could make our dreams a reality. We called "A Plus Design & Remodeling" after finding them listed on Angie's List as the "number 1 contractor" in our area. From the moment Adam, the owner of the company, came out to talk with me and my husband we were impressed. He came with his portfolio of remodel's he had recently done, he was knowledgeable, easy to understand, and patient when speaking with us. After looking through his portfolio, we knew he was the one we wanted creating our dream bathroom! We let Adam know what we wanted an he then sent over some personal designs for our bathroom, we loved them! Next, the quote came in and after seeing the designs along with the work he had done in the past we worried we could afford the bathroom; we were happily surprised when the quote came in well under the amount we expected. We signed our paper work and set a date to begin. When Adam's crew arrived they were prompt, courteous, and professional. They knew exactly what we wanted, they had our personal designs for our bathroom and not once did we see a mistake; everything went smoothly. Adam, the owner, came to our house to consult on adding a downstairs powder room. We were extremely impressed by his honesty and attention to our needs. He actually tried to talk us out of doing work that would not add value to our house - even though he would have made money off of the project. He was on time and polite and even stayed late in order to meet with our family members who were running late. He spent over an hour with us going over our needs and advising us on how to best spend our money, even when this went against his own interests. Now I didn't have any work done by this company so I cannot grade their work but it does look beautiful. I had an experience getting an estimate on a room addition. The "salesperson" who came out to give me an estimate was so arrogant and indignant at times. During the estimate he told me I couldn't do something that I had already checked on that I could do per my city codes. He seemed almost mad when I told him I had already checked on that and it would be allowed. Even made some rude comment about why I bothered the building department by calling them. He also never asked me what type of materials I was interested in or offered any type of suggestions on anything. Maybe it's just me but I would hope both of those things would be offered during a consultation. I of course know this would only be an estimate and not an exact quote however not even looking at my house (electrical, plumbing, foundation, roofing, etc.) other than measurements my estimate for my room addition was $140,000 - $160,000. That was for almost 700 feet. Based on YELP stars of 1 meaning "I think not".. I"m thinking not. read more
