I highly recommend A-Locksmith-Craig! My Ford van suddenly & intermittently refused to believe that all its doors were closed, preventing me from locking it. The locksmith was able to meet me in town the day I called & was able to figure out which door was causing the problem, but unfortunately it was a sensor issue, not the lock. Since he was there, I asked if he could make another key for me, since I bought the van used & only got 1 key. It turned out to be complicated due to the fact that it was originally a fleet vehicle. He spent time researching the issue, got the 2nd key made, & was more than fair about his fee, given the amount of time required. There I was, stuck between a rock and a very hard place. Tomorrow was supposed to be skydiving -- crossing off a bucket list item after at least 4 years. I'd even made a camping trip of it! One last hurrah before my new job, after a fairly traumatic exit from my previous job. But there I was, stranded in a beach parking lot. Skydiving was on the rocks, and it was entirely possible I'd spend the night in a dirtbag motel, separated from my clothes and campsite, while my car sat in the nearest dealership parking lot, alarm blaring, waiting up to 5 days for any help getting a key that worked. Or worse, I'd be with my car, in the parking lot, for up to 5 days -- which I'm sure wouldn't have actually happened, since after a few hours, I'd probably have been arrested for trespassing. I have a new job I'm supposed to start on Monday -- it's currently Thursday afternoon. Me and my car are 30 minutes from my campsite, which is 90 minutes from my home. I don't really have very many options here. You're probably wondering how I got into this mess. Well, I decided to go for the gold medal on the Idiot of the Day award, and neglected to take my keys out of my bathing suit before throwing myself into the ocean... I know, you don't have to say anything. Then, after this, I did the next stupid thing by popping the keys open (hoping I could dry the elements out -- I would later find out this caused pretty much all of my problems afterwards, by losing the chips to the keys, making them unrecognizable to my car). Well, when I then went to start my car.... It wouldn't start... I had electrical, but my car wouldn't start! Well, after calling for a tow (which showed up late -- only they never actually showed up, they just said they did), which would have taken me to the nearest Model T dealership, since I was told they could take care of it the next day (not ideal, but that's life)... Until they then said it would take 5 days... Well, I then called another dealership, and was given the contact information for Chris Craig. I gave him the whole rundown of my situation. He said he had another job but would be to me afterwards. I was fully prepared to wait until 8 or 9 for him to even show up. Well, he showed up at about... Hell, I can't remember, but I remember being shocked he was there so soon! (By the way, between calling for a tow and Chris' arrival, my car at one point began blaring the alarm (sometimes for no reason at all, but typically tied to if I had opened the door) -- try being the guy at the beach parking lot who's been there for hours with the blaring car alarm that he cannot turn off!) I cannot say enough about Chris. You can tell that he isn't a machine when it comes to this; he's a thinking, feeling human being. He bounced another job that wasn't nearly as dire as mine (although I'm sure it probably would have been easier, and hopefully not the cause of anywhere near my level of stupidity). He's enough of a gentleman to not say (aloud, anyways) that you made a mistake and are stupid (you're probably saying that enough for yourself anyways), and definitely has a story to top yours anyways. He shows up promptly, gives you the full story about what's happening, goes over options, and then gets the impossible done -- he was very honest about his uncertainty if he'd even be able to undo the big stupid that I did, and I'm so grateful he was! Chris has been doing this for 24 years -- he could totally be charging more than what he is for what he does and his capabilities. Chris will get the job done, leaving you with a smile on your face, and with fantastic conversation to boot. If you need a locksmith, don't even think about calling anybody else. Let me just review for you what an absolute wizard this guy is: He showed up many miles from his home base, in his truck (packed to the gills with his whole shop), and proceeded to cut a key to fit my car, put a chip in the key, and got it to play nice with my car (which, for the past few hours, would not recognize my keys, and decided to throw an intermittent temper tantrum -- wait, maybe that last part was me). Today I found myself in a situation which I thought I could handle on my own since I'm a lock enthusiast and a member of the locksport community (It's a thing. Look it up), I was sure there would never be a time when I would need the skills and knowledge of a lock "smith", I've been picking and gutting lock cylinders of all kinds for 30 years. Instead of a Rubics cube, my puzzle was a dimple lock. But low and behold I lost the key to my beloved Toyota. My chipped key. I have no trouble with the lock part but I couldn't seem to get the transponder for my 2012 Toyota pickup coded and able to start my truck. So I ate crow and called Craig. He was very professional and seemed down to earth and cool, and told me after her finished his job over the hill, he'd hook me up. So I waited, and he showed up and jumped out of his truck looking all "off duty cop-ee". I had him pegged right away. Turns out he was a cop and a fireman. He went to work on my truck and in less than 5 minutes found the thing that had been troubling me and keeping me from getting my truck started. It isn't a 2012...it's an 08 and I had the wrong type of transponder key. I, being the "lock guy" felt foolish embarrassed and humbled. His knowledge is vast, and he's very clearly a trustworthy security professional. With his law enforcement background, and fire fighting credentials, I felt he was over qualified to get my truck started. Either way he had my truck going in 2 minutes. Literally 2 minutes after he realized I had the wrong year. He went so far as to warranty the key I had purchased from ANOTHER lock place in town that was the wrong year and professionally cut and code that for me as well. And he did this LATE at night. Then he showed me some amazing things about locks that I had no idea existed. Like a lock with a curved keyway and flexible chain key from HYT (Yun-Tung Hsu) that I was so enamored with that I ran home and researched it to find the patent. Google "US5131247.pdf" if anyone is curious. But this proved to me no matter what I think of myself, I'm an amateur. So if you know someone like me who likes to get into locks, and you want to call them next time you're locked out. Take it from me, who's very much like that person you know, and call Craig instead.
