I went in to this shop as it was recommended to me. The person at the counter was very friendly and had a positive attitude, which is always helpful. I needed a car key and the fob as I only had one. They have an extensive inventory of those items. He found the correct fob and key, and within a short time, he had programmed the new key and fob, he even showed me the remote start feature. I would think that usually that fob would have to be ordered creating a delay. The service was quick and painless. I will be going there again. They have all types of locks, safes, and every type of key related items you can think of. read more

Coast safe and lock has items I can't find elsewhere. They are polite, knowledgable and helpful every time, even though much of what I purchase is inexpensive. A good selection of safes, keys and locks and parking on site. I have no hesitation recommending them. Mark F. Santa Cruz read more

Ryan from the Coast Lock today installed a fresh smart lock for me. The work was beautifully done! Ryan is very knowledgeable and efficient, to which I am very grateful. He also helped me to fix my old lock, which I took apart to rekey and didn't put back exactly. I am so happy for the locks on my door, and I would not hesitate to use their services again and again! read more

I'm in shock how great it went! I can't even believe it. The most shocking thing in my life!!! My extra key fob for my bmw x5 was no longer working. Dead. I took it up to scotts valley battery plus and they broke my key fob. So I ordered a shell of a fob on amazon and the guy at coast took my remnants all in splinters put it into the empty shell and it totally started my car! I'm still in total shock over it!!!!!! Cause it was totally dead!!! This is the most shocking thing in my whole life!!! I'm 70 now but don't look it!! read more

I try not to bag on local businesses but find this company so egregiously incompetent my only logical assumption is that their technicians are high off that club pot while trying to install locks. Idk, maybe life as a locksmith is tough so I don't want to judge but when you pay someone who tightens a lock so tight on your rv door that they literally shatter/ crack door I find it hard to imagine they're sober. I took in my 86 toyota dolphin after just purchasing it. I was ecstatic at my new ride. I simply needed a new lock installed on the side door so nobody could break in. What a mistake to come here. The dude used a deadbolt that goes to a house they had lying around and had to cut into the metal frame of the door to get it to fit. He then proceeded to tighten the darn screws so hard that it completely dented the outside and put so much pressure on the inside of the door that it shattered the metal casing. I literally have a Giant crack in my door from this dude over tightening the bolts down so hard. It's like he was taking out his internal stress from home on those screws... or maybe he just had a bad day and needed to show some thin aluminum sheeting who's boss... I was confident taking my rv to a real locksmith the job would be done correctly and professionally. Absolutely wrong. Rv doors are not made of steel or hardwood like normal doors. They're made of sheet aluminum, foam and light plywood to keep the weight down. Rv doors need to be installed gently when you tighten them down so the doors aren't damaged. Their technician didn't know this and flexed on those screws so bad that my door dented in on the outside and completely cracked on the inside. His supervisor realized what he did and got so upset he walked actress the street shaking his head saying "waaaay too tight". Now my door lock is loose and barely holds on because he had to back the screws out and it no longer fits tight. Even if he gave it to me for free I would've been bummed but dude had the nerve to charge me $65 dollars. Omg what a nightmare, I strongly recommend using anyone else for your locksmith needs and if your going to chance it make sure your technician isn't high af off that club pot when he's on the job. read more

Great experience today with this business. P J assisted me in making a copy of my Honda Fit key. Very pleasant, thorough and informative on my options. I wound up out the door with a working key in about twenty minutes. Not only super friendly and efficient but the final price was 80 dollars less than the locksmith down the block. I will definitely be returning. read more

Just like a business should be run, very nice and knowledgeable staff. I had bent a key and before I straightened it out I wanted to make a spare key first. Although they were busy, they got me in and out promptly. The cost of everything was a shocker because it was so low, I wish I could give them ten stars. read more

Came here all the way from the East Bay (Hayward) to get another fob made for my car. The second key that originally came with it when I bought it wasn't for the car at all. I came in and was out in about 30 minutes or less. I tried the dealership before I came here and they wanted an arm and a leg for a new fob. Would drive down again if needed! Excellent service and very affordable! read more

I got a spare vehicle key made here. I like the 90 day guarantee on spares. The cost was way more affordable than dealing with the dealership. I am only giving four stars instead of five because it's a bit unclear on how long things will take. I don't think they do appointments, but maybe they should? I know nothing about computerizing key fobs, but that process could just take a long time in general. I'll be back for a spare key to my other car in no time. read more

I wanted a spare key for my Toyota. I had tried using one of those " Key-Me" Kiosk. Both times the keys they sent did not work. Time wasted. I called the shop and they told me they could make me a key with the transponder in the key for $50 bucks. I had just paid KEYME $80 and as mentioned it did not work. So, I got a refund from KEYME and got not only great service, but a key that actually opened the door and started the car. Saved $30 bucks and a headache. Nicely done. read more

I have used them on more than occasion. This time I had a door, not used in years and when tried could not open. Key would turn, but lock had rusted shut, could not open. Called, said had a customer would return call. They did, came out same day. Quoted rates up front and possible charge. Took a bit of work but got lock working and door open. Polite and professional. read more

I locked myself out and they got someone to me very quickly. Ryan is obviously an expert got me back in quickly and was super friendly too!

Quoted me $450 to drill a safe. That's $300 more than I was quoted for drilling from two other locksmith (who actually asked to see a picture of the safe). I ended up paying $350 to have it manipulated (opened with no damage) which included cleaning the mechanisms and re-setting a new combo, on site. A service they could not even provide (manipulation). Ironically, a year ago, they had charged me $280 for re-setting the combo on a similar three geared already opened safe at their shop, a task so easy that I have since learned to do it myself. A few years back I paid $80 for the same job at another ship on Portola Av so I stupidly did not even ask the price as I assumed it would be ball park. I think this place is fine for quick keys or emergency lock out's but for any advance work I would recommend getting a quote, educating yourself on the options and comparing with other shops. read more

Don't shop here. They sold me a new electronic key to my car. The key was faulty and still does not work after three visits to have the issue looked at. They did not offer to replace the key faulty key with a new one... jus fiddled with it til it would temporarily work again. Coast Lock & Safe is winning by approx $300. I am losing by the same amount AND still do not have a fully functional key for my car. Hoping they see this review and rectify the situation... I will let you know what happens. read more

Fast and efficient for replacing my car remote. Decent price. Would go back again if I had to.

I tried to have a key made at Orchard Supply awhile back after numerous tries I finally gave up. What I hadn't noticed was that the guy actually made little laser cuts into my key, finally it broke off in my trunk while putting groceries in. I called another locksmith but he referred me to Coast Lock and Safe saying they do the best on worn down keys. Kristen was awesome! She got it done! The key works perfectly! She saved my groceries and my car thank you, will be in to have a couple more keys made just in case! Since my last Key episode I have bought a newer car with a key fob. The car is beautiful but the key fob not so much. Instead of waiting till the rubber cover completely falls off or the buttons stop working, I decided to go back to Coast Lock and Safe. They had my exact key fob, so much more cheaper then if I were to go to the dealer. I was in and out about 8 minutes or less. These guys are a amazing! Fast, excellent customer service, and they had exactly the fob I needed! So if you need a new key fob and a very inexpensive price you should come here! read more

Arrived on time with a mask and re-keyed several locks. Professional and courteous.

Wish I could write something positive. I called several companies and looked at reviews before talking to John the owner. I asked John to come out and service several mortise locks in our vintage house. I restored the house in 2010 and in the process I repaired all of the locks in the house. Didn't want to do it myself this time so I called John. A week after John did his work one of our tenants complained about one of the locks John worked on. He said he need to rotate the knob almost 300 degrees to get the door to open. I stopped by yesterday to look at the lock and found that the set screws on both the inside and outside knobs were not tightened. Not just loose, not tightened at all. Also noticed that the latch would not return position on it's own. I wrote an email and asked John for a partial refund of the over $300.00 he charged. Here's John's reply: "Yes, we lubed and checked all springs for the locks we took apart. I'm sorry you aren't happy with our work. I understand if you would like to start calling someone else for your lockwork in the future." I'll be taking Johns advice, will definitely not call in the future. I suggest readers of this post do the same. read more

They could go a long way in cust0mer service. They think about themselves and are curt, verging on dismissive and rude. I've used them in the past, they don't remember, they don't care. I'm moving on. I prefer professional service with a smile. There are plenty of locksmiths in our area without the attitude, problem. read more

If I could give then 0 OR EVEN NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD. I have never been treated in such an abusive and horrible fashion by any employee of any store in my life (and i used to work retail-and i own a business-NEVER). I just called simply asking to have a deadbolt unlocked. A man named Ryan showed up who is by far the rudest and most ornery employee ive ever met. This place was a lot of "firsts" in terms of negative behavior. When Ryan was done, he asked for payment naturally and he told me it was 100$ for unlocking the door which took 3 seconds. But, a price is a price so we areed to pay it. . My dad owns the house and wanted to pay, so i called him and ryan became agitated that he hadnt been paid in 10 seconds and 45 seconds had passed. I was trying to get more business ansd asking if my dad would like ALL the doors redone. My dad said no, he was disapoointed in the price but hed pay it. Suddenlty, Ryan jumps up runs to my door and locks me back out of my house. I was appalled. He said we were taking too long to pay him. This was maybe.....4-5 minutes after he opened the door. Not long. My dad got on the phone again and tried to pay then asked if he could ask me a ? When Ryan handed me the phone, he jumped up and ran to my door and deadbolted it AGAIN so i was locked out. Because it took 5 -7 miniutes before he got his payment? He was abusive. He came and locked me out of my own house TWICE WHILE I WAS TRYING TO PAY HIM. I began to cry I was so appalled. I called his boss to report his employees despicable behavior. His boss was understanding until he spoke to ryan. Then he camje on the phone and said hed come back AGAIN and unlock the door for 100$. Are you kidding? 100$ when youve wasted an hour of my day and its been unlocked 3 times but your employee keeps throwing a hissy fit and relocking me out of my own house? I said that was bad business and hung up. These people are thieves and the worsr worst worst experience I have ever had in my life buying ANYTHING. I found another locksmith that comes for 40$, is super friendly and does each door too at a cheaper cost. Never go to this store. You may end up with Ryan. read more

I would give these guys 6 stars if I could!! My poorly made ACE replacement key broke off in the ignition. After getting absurdly expensive quotes from every direction (from repair guys to car rental companies) Coast Lock & Safe drove to my place in an hour and pulled the thing out in 10 minutes. These guys know what they're doing and are very nice people. read more

I honestly don't know why this establishment has 4 stars. I called this company because I lost the keys to my car. I am a college student and am far from home, so this situation was beyond stressful for me. The technician who came to help me was rude, aggressive, and misogynistic. Before he even stepped foot out of his van, his words and tone of voice contained an impatient and agitated undertone. When he approached me, he was obviously annoyed and made harsh comments toward me. I began to cry and there was no apology for his behavior. So in summary, I paid $573 for terrible customer service. This was a very traumatic event for me. I feared for my safety during this encounter and I really hope this man gets reprimanded for his actions. Being a woman in this political climate is already scary enough and dealing with rude and aggressive locksmiths does not alleviate any of the social anxieties that I already have. Companies need to be more mindful of situations like these. read more

Stopped in to get my lock cylinder rekeyed after my girlfriend moved out. They did the job while I waited and it worked perfectly. Very reasonable price. Yes, I would recommend them again. After I got home I read some of the other reviews and believe that some of the people had embellished a bit on their stories. I just don't believe that a company in business this long with such other stellar reviews would do some of the things they are accused of. And to me crying is blackmail. Excuse yourself for a moment if that's what you need to do but don't blame it on the technician read more

Very skilled professionals. I have a 1970s vintage/classic with no original keys. The keys I had were cut incorrectly (e.g., way too thin and prone to breakage). When one of the keys finally broke off in the door lock, I headed into Coast Lock & Safe. They were able to extract the broken half key and cut me 3 new keys that work FAR BETTER than any other key I've had in the car (all 4 locks and ignition now work, when previously that was not the case). Not only that, but the new keys are thicker and therefore less prone to breaking off again. See attached pictured. In sum, pros, fast, reasonable and fair prices. Would recommend and go to again. read more

After I lost my vehicle keys, Coast Lock & Key owner made a defective key for my car and refused to refund the $73.20 he charged me. My car would only start intermittently using his key, so I had to have it jump started once and towed once to a repair shop after that. The repair shop discovered that the bad key was the problem and it ended up costing me a total of $220.44 for diagnostics, a new key, etc. I returned to Coast and asked the owner for a refund of what I paid for a defective key. He was very rude and refused any refund whatsoever. I reported it to North Bay Ford Auto who had referred me to Coast since it does not do auto keys anymore. Do not waste your time and money at Coast Lock &Safe who do defective keys and refuse legitimate refunds. read more

John at Coast Lock & Safe was the consummate professional. He gave me great advice (which I took. Thanks, John). My contractor agrees. They had everything I needed in stock, including a lockset with a 5-inch backset adapter. Everyplace else said "special order". I went to another local place - they wanted to sell me MUCH more expensive hardware. Granted, it was better quality, but at $500 vs. $100 I paid at Coast. BTW, Coast also has more expensive gear if you want it. The other place took much longer to "look things up" vs. John going and picking the items up for me - Done! Prices? About the same as Home Depot! Shop Local. Buy your locks and safes from John & the team at Coast. Ten thumbs up... Thanks, again, John. read more

Went in to get a new fob for my 10+ year old car. There was just a other person being helped, so they said it would take a out 20 minutes. They showed me the fob they had, and it was close to the orginal one, and so I went ahead, came back 30 minutes later nvm paid the $125 and it works perfectly. read more

Came through after I called a bunch of other SC locksmiths--they were the only ones willing to come out (answer the phone even) on a Friday evening during after-hours. He came right on time, made sure to verify my identity by asking to see if my license address matched the house address I was asking him to unlock. Also, they have key blanks that local hardware store doesn't carry. read more

12:30 PM Thursday Nov. 20th. Knocked on my door then opened it, when I went to see who was saying "Hello", I was confronted by a man telling me he was here to "rekey" my apt. After peppering me with questions he texted the office and told me he was given the wrong address by them. He was nice enough, considering he just let himself into my place, apologized and left for what I hope was the correct apt. Has me wondering if I was not here if I would have come back to find myself locked out. Very strange and unnerving. read more

On a warm evening, I left my front door open with the screen door latched. While I was in another room, burglars cut the screen, got in, stole my keys, and attempted to steal my VW Jetta (but they couldn't back it out of my driveway because they couldn't drive a stick -- ha!). After dealing with police and insurance, I called Coast Lock & Safe, the company that originally installed the deadbolts in my house. I am so happy I did. John came out within an hour and re-keyed my 3 locks for a very reasonable rate. Because the burglars stole my keys, I needed my car re-keyed too. This is a tough job, and expensive. Both VW and State Farm told me to call a locksmith. Again, John was my guy. He gave me a fair price and did the work perfectly. I highly recommend Coast Lock & Key. read more
