I came to this appointment with peekaboos, and wanting a partial highlight to get a brighter look around my face to change up my hair. I was really scared because I hadn't done blonde highlights or balayage in years! Joy's work on instagram made me want to schedule with her because she had the right "natural and grown out" look she was especially good at. She was sweet, took care of me and was able to achieve a vanilla blonde level within 5 hours for a partial highlight service. I ended up having to come back to re-tone a small piece of my hair. She was able to squeeze me in asap to take care of it. My hair was great leaving the salon and I would absolutely return for a touch up very soon!

I HONESTLY do not know how they have an average 5 star rating. We decided to give a A-list a try because of these reviews and it was one of the worse mistakes we could have done in regards to hair and make up. PLEASE PLEASE, trust me in what I am going to say in my review. Would we ever come back? Absolutely not! Waste of time and MONEY. My friend and I had our make up and hair done by Nikki and Chau. The appointment was scheduled for a certain time and we arrived early, because we really needed to be out of there in 2 hours in order to avoid traffic. Nikki, was completely rude and asked us to leave (wait outside) because she wasn't ready or to wait in the chairs. WHAT?? (She wasn't doing anything at the time) We still decided to give her a chance, but in reality we should have just left after that. Looking back, we should have! (15 minutes late) she started on one of us. Chau was STILL not there, she ended up arriving about 40 minutes late. Both "artists'" were completely unprofessional and came across as rude, Chau was willing to make us happy but Nikki was not. I'm disappointed to say this but it is completely true. In the beginning Nikki acted as we were doing her a favor by being there and that she really didn't want to be there. I had sent her pictures of what we wanted WAY ahead of time and STILL we had to talk "PROFESSIONAL" make-up artists into doing what came out as a good finished look but ONLY with our input. Salon Professionals is the place our friends went to and they loved it! True professionals! $100 for hair and make up- not worth it. True and simple. Don't get me started on the hair! By the time we got home, our curls were falling apart by the end of the night we had little to no curls left. We were thankful that WE had picked two styles that had looked well nonetheless or else we would have been completely screwed over. BTW we had to touch up our make up, right when we were getting ready with our friends, who noticed that the foundation looked orange on the sides, not blended correctly. NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER, WILL BE COMING BACK. I honestly thought they would be better but as a whole A-list is actually F-LIST, and does not live up to our expectations. Don't be fooled by the name. We truly wish they were better but it is simply the absolute truth. We are starting to believe that the rest of these reviews have to be fake, when we mentioned some "good" reviews about them to Nikki and Chau they just started laughing! If it doesn't get any worse, she promised we would both be done with hair and make up in 2 hours. We were out of there almost 3 hours later. Which did delay us even more in traffic and cut time we needed to get ready for our event. AND since the place is the size of a closet, it was packed. One woman came in to have a wedding make-up consultation with Ann (The Owner). Ann was over 30 MINUTES late! UNACCEPTABLE! NO WONDER the other employees get away with crappy make-up and hair. To make maters WORSE, Ann was completely rude to the nice woman who had brought some make up inspiration for her wedding, ALL she kept saying was that, it would not look good on her! What kind of owner says this? Most importantly, she didn't seem like she had passion for what she was doing, NONE of the artists we saw did AND they truly seemed liked they did not want to be there! We could have done our hair and make up ourselves MUCH better. That's the truth! Save your money! read more

I understand that A List Makeup has a lot of good reviews and I'm sorry that this review is a bad one. But all brides beware, please hear my story and do not book Emily. As with most brides, I scoured wedding sites and reviews to look for my perfect makeup artist. After reading all the reviews about the A List team (yes, I read all of them), I decided to go with Emily. Most everyone seemed to like her work, except for the incident when she used too much concealer on one of her brides (which was also another review that I read). But regardless, I decided to with Emily because her work looks really nice. That was the biggest mistake that I have ever made! My trial with Emily went well. She did my hair and makeup exactly the way I wanted it. She was sweet and very professional, so I felt very comfortable with my decision to chose her as my makeup artist. The day of the wedding was another story. Emily showed up an hour late and did not call to let me know. My sister tried calling her, but her phone was off. When she got there, she simply told me that there was traffic. Then she proceeded to do my makeup as her assistant (i believe it was her sister or friend, definitely not another makeup artist) started to curl my hair. I was a bit shocked as I paid $350 for my wedding day makeup and hair and did not expect for someone else besides Emily to touch my hair and makeup. I felt like Emily was very rushed because her brush strokes were not as gentle on my face and she worked faster than she did during my trial. After the assistant curled my hair, Emily pinned it for me, but it wasn't the style that I wanted it. Emily had forgotten what my hair was supposed to look like, so I had to pull a picture of it from my phone. By then, I was already emotional and could feel that my face was getting hot. How could she have been so unprofessional and insensitive? It was my wedding day, how could she show up late and forget what she was supposed to do? I tried to keep calm, but my hair wasn't what I wanted and Emily took a very long time to get it right. By the time the makeup and hair was done, I didn't feel as pretty as I thought I would. I was so upset by the sight of Emily that I asked her to go home. My bridesmaids decided to do their own hair and makeup and helped me throughout the day. I wasn't going to write a review on Emily because maybe it was an off day for her, but I feel so upset that someone who is supposed to make me feel pretty on my wedding day messed up so bad. I will never refer Emily to any of my girlfriends and I will make sure that they don't book her because I do not want any bride to have the same experience that I did. read more

This review is based on my experience with NIKKI NGO. I was asked to be a bridesmaid at a friend's wedding and in need of finding a makeup artist. Being that I am quite selective with a makeup artist/hairstylist, I was very worry about trying out the makeup artist that my co-worker had recommended. The first time that I was introduced to Nikki at the makeup's trial day, I like her right away. I knew I could voice my concerns to her about my phobia of trusting anyone doing my hair and makeup, without her taking it the wrong way. Nikki was extremely professional and didn't take it personal at all. In fact, she was adamant that I be straight forward with her and let her know what I want and don't want. My eyes are my primary and biggest problem because I have the typical small Asian eyes. Mascara and fake eyelashes alone won't do the trick or make them any bigger. When Nikki applied make-up for me for the makeup's trial, she actually made my eyes so much bigger and magically made them shine. I couldn't believe those big brown eyes were actually mine, I don't know how Nikki did it but she did such an awesome job. As for my hair, which it's usually flat dead, no matter what I do. However, with Nikki's touch, she got it up nice and high with so much bounces to them. For once, I was completely satisfied with the result of the make-over. I was so impressed with Nikki's magic that I had to book her to do my makeup and hair for my friend's wedding. I cannot wait until the wedding day for her to work her magic on me again. This review is for Chloe Huang. I was so blessed to get to know Chloe as my make up artist for my sister's wedding around mid August. First of all, she was so on time. She arrived 10 minutes earlier than our appointment time which was at 6 am. Yeah it was tough to have to be that earlier especially with the cold foggy weather in San Francisco. So it was a good start becauce everything just went on time as planned. Chloe just knows what is best for my face. I loved how I look and that's really important for me since I don't wear makeup everyday. My makeup that Chloe did beautifully made me feel pretty and confident. Family and friends commented that I looked younger too. It was just perfect for the occasion. The make up was strong and yet simple and right for my face. And also the make up stayed for the entire event (approximately from about noon to 10 pm). I did not need any touch up afterwards. Chloe also did the make up for my daughter and my sister-in-law. They also liked her work. She allowed them to try the styles that they wanted and made them look perfect for the day. Chloe is very nice to talk to and friendly. She just gave her best for her work. This was proven by her being on time and her willingness to stay longer to see if any of us needed touch-ups before she left. She made sure that we were pleased and satisfied with the make up. She took her time to do the make up and hair for each one of us (3 of us at that time), and yet very efficient with her timing so that we could be off for the wonderful occasion on time and looking beautiful. I am absolutely blessed to have had my makeup done by someone as talented as Chloe Huang! I went to Chloe before a winter themed photo shoot to get my hair and makeup done. When i walked into the studio i was initially warmly greeted by her sweet smile and we got down to business. Chloe's energetic and warm personality made the experience extremely memorable for me. Within the first few minutes of our session i immediately felt comfortable and trusted her capabilities. Chloe was very informative as she was doing my makeup and listened to me as she was deciding on how to apply my look. I was amazed at how quickly she understood what look we were going for and payed attention to what my needs were. Throughout the process she also continued to make sure i was comfortable with the choices she was making (eyeshadow, lipcolor, etc) as she well knew the more comfortable i felt in the makeup the more i'd love it. Needless to say the make-up turned out Amazing! After makeup she went forward to doing my hair. She started by curling it with ease and gave me a very fierce look that i loved. The hair was later put up into a spectacular updo (at the studio) halfway through the photo shoot which she accompanied me to. Also, Chloe made the whole photo shoot and modeling a blast with her support and jokes on the side. All in all, Chloe is the way to go! This place is a joke! I got my hair and makeup done for a special occasion and I had to tell them what I wanted and how I wanted it done! They did not take initiative after I had emailed a few designs that I liked to them, they seemed like it was there first day open! A - List? More like NO - LIST! The space is super unorganized and too small. It was very crowed and all of the employees show up when ever they want and are afraid to experiment! People were waiting over 30 minutes because the Make - Up Artist was late... (That artist was the OWNER) How can you set a good example to your employees if you are late yourself? To top it off, they started speaking in their foreign language and I thought I was back at a nail salon. The owner Ann was a big B**CH, when her customer came in to do a wedding makeup and hair trial, she kept discouraging her to try new styles and designs! It was very said to hear her say to the Bride that she would not look good in any of her choices and continuing to put her down after she was super late. This is the WORST PLACE TO GET YOUR HAIR AND MAKEUP DONE! If you want to do all of the work and lead the artist, then come to this place, it's great for those who like to teach others about leadership and how to lead. In the end you'll probably end up fixing your hair and makeup on your own because the super pricey hair and makeup was not what you wanted and is not up to standards! I found Julie Cao by recommendation of my wedding venue. I had contacted 2 other hair/makeup artist who left me feeling uneasy and not at all confident with there services. After reaching out to Julie and exchanging emails a couple of times I knew she was who I wanted to help me on this special day. She's really sweet, out going and makes everything so easy! I did a trial with her a few months before my wedding and was blown away... she brought to life exactly what I had envisioned. During the trial she would ask me how I liked it so far if... the pins felt comfortable on my head... she cared about me being happy with everything. She reached out to me a month before the wedding to finalize a time line for me and my family/guests. One week before the wedding I asked her if should could possibly add 2 more people to get hair and make up done... AGAIN she accommodate with NO PROBLEM! This review is for Esther Yoo. I hired Esther recently for my March wedding, and she did an amazing job! She agreed to do light make up applications for my 2 bridesmaids, and my mom, full make up and hair for my officiant, and full make up and hair for me. To make sure she had time to do everyone, she arrived at 9am, and stayed until 2pm!! She had extra time before the photographers arrived for shots, so she re-touched up everyone's make up, and even helped fix my mom's and sister's hair, even though that wasn't originally agreed on. As for the make up, she did a wonderful job. I don't usually wear any, and I think everyone thought I still looked like me, just gussied up! It stayed on all day and night (and she provides you with some lip gloss to reapply during the night), and my hair didn't move at all, despite dancing on the dance floor and cramming myself into the photobooth all night. Esther provides her services at a great price point for the quality and work she provides and expects to deliver to her clients. I did quite a bit of research on who I wanted to do my (and my bridal party's) makeup and hair for my wedding. Chau Nguyen's work is absolutely stunning. Not only did she make me and the girls look beautiful, she also made sure that we did not have to worry about anything come the day of the wedding. She was extremely organized, which I greatly appreciated. She showed up right on time and put us completely at ease during the session. I have very oily skin with some acne, so makeup can sometimes be a bit of a problem for me. Chau assuaged all my fears and used techniques specifically designed for oily skin. It lasted all day! She is an absolute genius. I would highly recommend her for anyone; in fact, my mother-in-law (who came to my trial) was so impressed with Chau's work that she asked me for her information so she could utilize her services for the day of the wedding as well! I emailed A-List and got so many responses back! It was a little overwhelming since I didn't know who to choose! I went through a couple portfolios and decided to book Angela. She was responsive and friendly and I got a good vibe from her. I am SOOO happy I did. I loved the results. I have ultra sensitive eyes and Angela couldn't be more tedious and gentle. I'm also particular about not getting that cakey look I tend to get when I've gotten my makeup done before. She was so good about explaining step by step about what she product she was using and also asked if I had any allergies. No one has ever asked me that before! Nini was amazing. I found Nini approx 1 year before my wedding date but due to many unforeseeable reasons I booked another makeup artist. This didn't work out, and the first person I remembered to call was Nini. Thank goodness she was still available one month before my wedding day. We met up once just to get to know each other. We got along pretty well and I wasn't even stressed on the big day. We laughed while getting the makeup done. This review is for Kathleen Tinney. She did the makeup and hair for the mother of the groom (MOG) and the mother's friend and did an absolutely beautiful job. These two women have completely different styles and Kat adapted perfectly to both of their styles and comfort levels to makes them feel comfortable, very natural, and gorgeous. The MOG thanked me numerous times for finding such a great makeup artist because she hadmreceived so many compliments about how amazing she looked that night. Nikki is crazy professional! One of my good friends told me about A-List and said that I had to try them out. I booked them to do my hair and makeup for a photoshoot I was taking part in. The communication through email and phone were both fantastic. Super easy to work with, very friendly, and most importantly she's a damn pro! I had a lot of fun testing out all the different shades of (what I assume is) expensive makeup that I could never afford. My hair looked and felt amazing after as well. It had way more body to it than I have ever been able to achieve by just using volumizing shampoo. She even cleaned up my eyebrows and curled my lashes. I absolutely love A-list's staff! I have had my hair done by Jessica Do and Kevin Truong. I have really long hair so it can be a little hard to bundle it all up for a bridal updo but Jessica Do rocked it! I did a photoshoot with Kevin Truong and creativity sums up his talent. He did a fierce, semi-couture hair do for our first session. The volume in my hair was amazing, felt like I was in a Patene Pro-V commercial. The second look was a very nice, loose and natural updo-- very bridal! My make up was amazing! He knows his color palettes to give you a natural look. His contouring and highlighting skills were my favorite. He gave me a really slender nose and high cheekbones- not to mention fuller lips, even brows and bigger eyes. LilyAnn did my makeup from senior ball. From the moment she contacted me I could already tell she was very professional. We contacted through email and she would always get back to me within minutes, and was very flexible with her schedule. As for the makeup, I loved it! She was right on time first off all, and she took her time and was very detailed, making sure that I was completely happy with the way I looked. When I asked for some things to be changed, she was very willing to make as many changes as I wanted for me to be happy. She was also extremely friendly and talkative the whole time, so getting my makeup done was even more fun! I had booked the trial the same day as an engagement photoshoot, and the photos turned out better than I could've imagined! On wedding day, Ann and her assistant arrived to our venue bright and early. I was feeling a little nervous, but the 2 hours with Ann left me feeling super at ease - it was a peaceful session despite how hectic wedding days usually go! I had also noted small changes I wanted from the trial and she was super receptive to my preferences, making sure I felt my best on wedding day. In order to meet the minimum, we decided to add my mom and MIL into the schedule but this ended up changing our whole timeline for the morning at the last minute and, I had to wake up way earlier than I planned since she said it would take too long to set up at the Airbnb they were at, but OK. I did a trial with her a week before my wedding and the teasing really damaged my hair, I could barely brush it. My hair looked great during the first look, but it really didn't hold, and even by the ceremony it was falling out. Similarly, my MIL also had curls done and I noticed it didn't hold up either. Lastly, she overslept my trial (which she was very apologetic for). She offered a small discount, but I didn't really feel like it compensated for me taking the day off, spending a whole day driving to San Jose, waiting an hour, driving back, and then rescheduling. She was about 15 minutes late arriving to our venue, but it didn't end up setting our schedule back.
