Jennifer Vo was my makeup and hair artist for my August 2024, which I found through A-List Makeup from two previous friend referrals. I usually do not wear makeup on a regular basis nor do I style my hair regularly (e.g., curl my hair), I was looking for an artist who can work with my needs regarding my skin/hair and recommend a style that works with my features. Most importantly, I wanted an artist who could fit in my budget. From her portfolio, I could tell she had a lot of experience working with various Asian brides and bridal parties. I opted for a bridal trial with Jennifer to ensure her work would fit my needs and inform her of my wedding details. The trial was straightforward and easygoing. She was patient and took her time to work on my makeup and hair, and provide feedback. My only constructive feedback was that Jennifer did have a mix-up on the bridal appointment, but she was able to quickly pivot and meet me on our original scheduled appointment date. Jennifer was incredibly on top of her communication and quick to respond to my questions. After the bridal trial, Jennifer followed up regarding my makeup and hair after a day, and I was happy to book her. She was receptive to my feedback and communicated her plan to make small adjustments for my day of. On the day of, Jennifer and her assistant (Ti Nguyen) arrived at our venue. Jennifer arrived a few minutes early and had her stuff setup while her assistant arrived shortly after. It was fortunate that Jennifer had worked at our venue previously so she knew to bring her ring light due to the lack of lighting at the venue. They were able to get through the bridal, (3) bridesmaids, and my MIL HMUA as promised in the contract. However, her assistant had to leave an hour early which was a slight deviation from our contract, so I did feel like the artists rushed my bridesmaids a bit. Fortunately, I did tell my bridesmaids to come at least 1/2 hour earlier as advised by my wedding coordinator, and Jennifer assured me she can finish everyone on her own. Though this was a slight inconvenience, we finished earlier than expected. Everyone was happy with their looks! Jennifer gave me a little touch up lipstick so I could continue to look our best throughout the night. I would recommend Jennifer as she did a great job with my hair and makeup, and I was extremely satisfied with her work. Despite the slight inconveniences, I think Jennifer was able to address them and try to work with me to resolve them. For my engagement shoot, Dantam did my hair and makeup. My photoshoot was in SF and it was quite windy that day. She was very considerate of the time it would take me to drive to SF. She was very efficient and we finished earlier than expected. The quality of her work is amazing. Even though it was very windy, my hair style held up pretty well. When she was applying the make up, she made sure I liked each color she was applying. I really appreciated the little touch ups in the end to ensure my makeup was on point. Booking appointment was easy through the website and I had a few artists respond to my query. I finally booked Nguyen Ha for makeup and hair for my maternity shoot. On the day before the photoshoot I got a call from Nguyen and she said she had an emergency the next day but she had asked Hanh Cao to replace her. I did two hair and makeup trials with Dantam and she did my hair and makeup for both of my wedding ceremonies. First, I have curly hair and did not want my hair straightened or blow dried, I wanted to keep it natural. Dantam did a great job not only preserving my curls, but also making me look and feel fantastic on both my trial days and my wedding days. She was also extremely flexible with my (and my family's) requests day of, and helped pin in and readjust the flowers in my hair multiple times so I would get my look just right. My second ceremony started at 10A, and she requested to come in at 6AM to make sure everything would get done on time, and when I requested she arrive around 7, she was able to add a second assistant last minute to come help so that everyone would be ready on time. She was very timely both days, kind, and very good at her job! I ended up paying the extra cost for a makeup/hair trial which I HIGHLY recommend. She was patient and willing to try out multiple hairstyles to completion so that I could see and decide how I'd like my hair on my wedding day. She showed me multiple styles for my makeup which was helpful for me because I don't know much about makeup, so it's difficult for me to answer questions like "What kind of makeup do you want?" "Do you like darker or lighter shades?" "Do you like dramatic or natural wings?", but having Krystal show me different styles helped me to choose. Krystal is talented and has a lot of experience. She has done makeup for fashion shows and wedding makeup for many, many years and her experience is so helpful for calming you on your day of! You are in good hands if you hire Krystal as your hair/makeup artist. For COVID, Krystal did two tests: one before our trial and one before our wedding day and she informed us of her negative results which was also calming for us to know. She still wore masks and sanitized all brushes beforehand. She has a very warm and sweet demeanor. She's lovely to be around. Scheduling with her was easy as well. She communicated quickly via email (less than a day to respond). I had many questions and she responded to every single one of them graciously! My makeup and hair held up the entire day even after multiple ceremonies (2 tea ceremonies and one church ceremony). It looked great in all sorts of lights - indoor, outdoor. I had a great experience with Nguyen Ha doing my hair and makeup for my wedding this past weekend! I also did a trial run with Nguyen a couple months ago to decide on my preferred hair and makeup style. I always knew I wanted a half-up/half-down hair style, and not only did Nguyen know exactly what I was envisioning, she executed it perfectly too. For makeup, I wasn't as familiar with what I wanted, so Nguyen helped me to test out a natural makeup look. She was very accommodating as well, and upon me sharing that the false lashes we tried on during the trial felt a bit heavy for me, she said she will bring lighter lashes on the day of the wedding. I had very little feedback for the makeup, Nguyen's execution and choices for the makeup were beautiful. On the morning of the wedding, Nguyen and her assistants Krystal and Lan Diep arrived on time, and actually finished ahead of schedule. They did makeup for myself, 4 bridesmaids, and my aunt, and they worked efficiently and delicately. One additional shout out is that, I actually had a stye on one of my eyelids leading up to the wedding (too much stress from wedding planning!), and Nguyen worked her magic to cover it up and make me feel comfortable with how I looked that day. Earlier this month I had Dantam and Hanh do wedding hair and makeup for me, my mother, and my five bridesmaids. They both did a great job enhancing our group's beauty and helping our morning prep run smoothly. Both Dantam and Hanh arrived on time to start at 6AM and finished working on all of seven of us before 10:45, as scheduled. I had done a trial with Dantam over a year before that day (since my wedding was postponed), but my hair and makeup still ended up fabulous; I could even say it looked better than it did during the trial. Another plus I'd like to point out was how easy it was to communicate with Dantam. She consistently replied to all my texts and emails promptly, if not within an hour, then within 24 hours. She was even addressing my last minute worries and questions the night before the wedding! I appreciate this since I had previously tried to work with another artist from A-list Makeup who ghosted me after a trial lol. I hired Nguyen Ha (Group 5) to be my hair and makeup artist for my wedding day. Due to my pregnancy and covid, we never got a chance to do a trial but I was confident in her abilities and everything turned out perfectly for my wedding day. We had to reschedule the wedding due to COVID and while Nguyen was able to fit us in on the new date, she asked for more deposit and informed me that the service rates had gone up by about 25%. Obviously, I was not happy about that (and A List was the only vendor that we booked pre-pandemic who changed their prices afterward) but despite the increase, her prices were still very reasonable. She also offered to refund my deposit if I didn't want to move forward with the new rate. On the day of the wedding, she and her assistant did a wonderful job on all of us - me, 4 bridesmaids, 2 moms, 2 groomswomen. I knew that A List does amazing makeup on Asian women but I was concerned that our groomswomen, who are Black, would be a challenge. Ultimately, the worry was unwarranted as we all looked fantastic! She communicated beforehand with quick responses to my emails in the few weeks prior to the big day, and gave me realistic timelines for getting ready & let me know in advance that she recommended 2 additional hair/makeup girls to get my 5 bridesmaids done in the 2-3 hour time frame we had. (They did it! Everyone looked amazing with updos & false lashes that looked natural & everything!!) How amazing for my wedding day when I had slept only 2 hours the night before (different story). I was even able to wear false lashes that looked fluttery without ptosis or drooping. She relaxed me, she made me feel more beautiful than I ever have ever felt in my life, and most importantly, I still felt like myself, looked like myself, only more beautiful, not like I was overly-made up. Everything she did was to enhance my features, not overpower them. The lipstick she used lasted through cake & kisses and never rubbed off onto guests or new hubby. When I got to the hotel after the reception (was crying, laughing, dancing in cowboy boots at the reception all night long, perspiring, whole bit), I looked in the mirror and was still radiant. This review is for Leslie Song. Where do I begin? My bridesmaids, mother, mother-in-law, and I had such an amazing experience with Leslie that I wish I could give her 6 stars. I met Leslie at A-List for my trial and showed her a couple of photos off my phone. I couldn't decide between the two styles - one was an updo, and one was a half up half down style. Both were super curly. Apparently, the "messy" or "I'm so sexy I woke up looking this way" look can be the trickiest of all and actually takes a lot of skill to pull off. I know because some other stylists I tried out didn't do it the exact way I wanted. I guess it's hard also because I have thin, flat hair. Anyway, Leslie was able to recreate both styles perfectly on me, and was so patient helping me decide which style to go with on my big day. I absolutely loved the updo she did (see my photos). It was a much better job than the same updo I got as a bridesmaid in a previous wedding. I immediately knew Leslie was our girl! Fast forward to our wedding day. Firstly, it was in Reno in the middle of January, in the worst winter we've seen in decades. After 6 years of droughts, just our luck, our wedding weekend was full of snowstorms...I was so afraid my vendors from the Bay Area would back out, but Leslie made it despite a crazy drive. She arrived promptly at 8am and got to work. My bridesmaids, my mom, and mother-in-law all had different length hair and wanted different styles - updos, side bun, curly downdo, etc. Everyone looked amazing and she got done right on schedule. Even our moms' hair looked amazing, and the mamas didn't have much hair to work with. Throughout hours of events, photo shoots, etc, everyone's hair stayed put. Even throughout hours of dancing. I seriously think my hair would have stayed for a couple more days but after all that cold sweat during the ceremony and hot sweat from our dance floor, I wanted to shower so badly after the wedding. Bummer - I wish my hair could look like that forever. Leslie also does makeup in addition to hair, and her makeup looks amazing! I wish she could have done it all on my wedding day, but there's only one of her so we had to get a different makeup artist. I got so many compliments on my hair, but not my makeup. Darn it lol. I hope to work with Leslie again! I highly recommend her as your makeup or hair stylist. Just be sure to book her as early as possible, because the best stylists tend to get booked up quickly. Cherie Vo is just plain wonderful. Our wedding was planned for last year but we delayed it by a year because of Covid. Cherie was very accommodating and flexible throughout. When Cherie came to do my makeup, she made me feel really comfortable. She's super personable and professional. I don't know anything about makeup except that I wanted a natural look. I inquired with A List Makeup through their website and quickly got responses back from the team members. To be honest, a few of the girls who responded were totally off-putting to me - one wanted a deposit while I was still inquiring about her services. Another was pretty rude/abrasive. I almost gave up on A List before Cherie responded. She's so sweet and professional, and you can feel it through email. I asked her for recommendations on assistants and ended up selecting Vyvyence and Nancee Pham. (Side note: I also wanted to work with Ngan Bui, who wasn't booking at the time of my inquiry, but she ended up working on my SIL/MIL, who were both pleased with their looks.) We did a 2 hour-ish hair/makeup trial maybe 8 months before the wedding (which doubled as my engagement hair/makeup). We did a second hair trial w/my mom and sister bc I couldn't decide whether I wanted my hair up or down. I actually couldn't decide until the morning of the wedding, LOL.. Cherie was patient with each trial and text that I sent her. On the morning of the wedding, Nancee (bridal party hair), Vy (bridal party makeup), and Cherie arrived and quickly began setting up our hotel room. Cherie did an amazing job on my hair/makeup. I've attached pics for your review. She happily obliged to my request to use certain products (I brought my own primer and eyelashes) AND she was light-handed when applying foundation. (It was important to me that I didn't have a cake face, lol.) I LOVED my makeup - both in person and how it came out in photos. My bridal party helped me decide on my hair the morning of, and we went with a look that we didn't even try during the trial. My biggest fear was that all my long, heavy hair would fall down if it was in an updo, but it lasted through an entire night of dancing...and my sleep AND nap the next day. Her work is beautiful and LASTS a long, long time. I also wanted to highlight Vy and how amazing her work is. Often times, people don't think about the bridal party's makeup, but I got compliments ALL NIGHT LONG from our family/friends on how good my mom's, sister's, and bridesmaids' makeup looked. There really is nothing better than hearing all night long how beautiful your closest friends are, LOL. Vy was really accommodating to everyone's requests, found eyelashes to suit each member of my bridal party (they ranged from natural to ABG, lol), and made everyone look like more polished versions of themselves. I really appreciate how we all looked like we usually do - the makeup applied was just a way more professional and nicer version of how we usually like to wear our makeup. :) Cherie is super professional and really worked behind the scenes to coordinate with my coordinator, Vy/Nancee, and our timeline. Ngan Bui is AMAZING!! I've had some really bad experiences with getting my makeup done and was a bit nervous about my session. Ngan made me feel so comfortable though by always checking in with me and asking me if I liked the eyeshadow colors throughout the entire session. She was kind and patient with me whenever I teared up from the eyeliner (my eyes are super sensitive) and gave me the natural look that I wanted. Jennifer (Jenny) was referred to us from family and did my hair and makeup for both engagement photoshoot and on my wedding day. She and Chi also did my mom and mother-in-law's makeup for wedding day too. She and Chi were amazing, punctual, and did a great job for our hair and makeup. I loved how she understood that I don't wear a ton of makeup on the day-to-day, making sure it still felt like me and more natural, but still the right amount for a photoshoot and wedding day. We got so many compliments for our makeup and how flawless it looked. It also lasted the whole day / night in very warm weather (summer in the Bay Area wedding)! She was very calm in the moment, especially when we were running late and so warm to work with and easy going/welcoming.
