I booked Ann for hair and makeup for my wedding and had a wonderful experience working with her. I had also booked a trial almost a year before my wedding, and she was very responsive and easy to work with. We communicated via email for booking. We met at her Sunnyvale studio for the trial. She gave lots of helpful tips on what she recommended for my skin tone, skin type, and my hair length, and explained the different products she was using and why she was using them. I really appreciated her attention to detail and that she took her time perfecting the small details. She was also super chill to chat with. I had booked the trial the same day as an engagement photoshoot, and the photos turned out better than I could've imagined! On wedding day, Ann and her assistant arrived to our venue bright and early. I was feeling a little nervous, but the 2 hours with Ann left me feeling super at ease - it was a peaceful session despite how hectic wedding days usually go! I had also noted small changes I wanted from the trial and she was super receptive to my preferences, making sure I felt my best on wedding day. Ann's assistant also did an amazing job with my mom's and MIL's hair and makeup. Ann also gave my mom a tutorial on how to put my veil in my hair, which was very appreciated. I'm so happy I booked Ann for my makeup on one of the happiest days of my life!! She didn't just made me look beautiful; she made me feel beautiful too. I'm still impressed at how good my hair and makeup looked in photos afterwards, even after a night of laughing, crying, and sweaty dancing. Highly recommend booking Ann for your hair and makeup needs!! read more

Ann helped me feel absolutely beautiful on my wedding day! I did a trial session with her and had to reschedule it a couple of times because I was trying to coordinate it with my engagement shoot. She replied graciously every time and eventually we found a date that worked. I wanted a natural makeup style because I rarely wear makeup and she executed it perfectly. I requested two different hairstyles for my trial and day-of and she did both perfectly as well. I highly recommend Ann and her services. read more

I found Ann on Instagram because I was looking for a hair and makeup artist for my wedding. I reached out to other artists but ended up picking her because she had 20+ years experience in the makeup industry. Another thing that stuck out when I was deciding was when she said she has an eye when it comes to what product looks good on her clients. She also encouraged me to look at her past clients to get a feel of what I wanted for myself. I scheduled a trial with her at her studio in Sunnyvale because I was taking engagement pictures that same day and also wanted to get a feel of how I was going to look for my big day. She arrived on time and we both hit it off very quickly. She asked to see a picture of how I normally do my makeup before she worked her magic. She didn't encourage inspo makeup pictures because she said every face/skin type is different, but she did ask for hair inspo pictures. I really appreciated her expertise since I am not a makeup guru. Not only did she make me feel beautiful, I still looked like myself. The day of my wedding, she came to my house at 6am to make sure I had enough time before my tea ceremony at 10am. Her other colleague also came because my 2 bridesmaids and my mom needed their hair and makeup done. Ann was calm and took her time to make sure she nailed the look. My eyes aren't even so she put tape to make it look as perfect as possible. She kept saying that one eye looked bigger but it wasn't a big deal for me. At the end of the session, I was shocked that I could look that stunning!!! Everyone complimented on my hair and makeup that day. I am so glad I found Ann to be part of my special day. She is extremely professional and easy to work with. I hope she continues to make every woman feel as beautiful as she made me feel!! read more

Ann did the hair and makeup for my wedding and it held up great, especially considering I had broken out a bit the week of. She was super responsive, always on time, and really flexible. I was planning on doing a second look for my reception but wasn't sure if I would need my makeup redone or not. Ann said she'd only charge me for what I ended up needing. She was wonderful to work with day-of. Would definitely recommend her. read more

I loved working with Ann and felt so beautiful on my wedding day! During my trial, Ann gave me great tips and ideas based on my hair length and texture. On my wedding day, Ann and her team did my bridal hair and makeup, as well as hair and makeup for my sister, mom, and mother-in-law. She was able to make slight adjustments per my request based on my trial, and as someone who doesn't wear a lot of make up, the slight changes were perfect! Her team also did a great job with my sister and parents. Would highly recommend hiring Ann and her team. read more

I found Ann on Instagram as I was searching for make-up artists for my wedding. She did my make-up and hair for me and her colleague did the make up and hair for my mom and my mother-in-law. After talking to a few different make-up artists, I did a trial with Ann because I liked her style, as noted on her Instagram page of other brides, and her price was reasonable and didn't have minimal number of people restriction! I recommend doing a trial for make-up because we were able to make some changes that geared towards my style and Ann made it perfect on the big day! Ann and her colleague were great and easy to work with. Punctual and made us look pretty! Thank you Ann!!!! read more

Quality work and very knowledgeable in what she does. She was timely every-time and love her work!

Ann is so nice, flexible, and her work is amazing. I was impressed at the trial but the small changes done on my day of to make me feel amazing. Ann did so good of a job that I felt ugly doing my own makeup at my honeymoon HAHA. I really liked how she asked for photos of how I do my makeup and matched styles so it would look like makeup I would do, elevated. Loved the way that everything turned out and I felt beautiful. Her professional advice was also great in making me feel like there was absolutely no regrets for any of my hair and makeup decisions. At the trial she advised I get a more moisturizing lotion and for the wedding day, my skin looked amazing. read more

Ann did my hair and makeup for my wedding a few days ago and I can't recommend her enough! I had seen her portfolio and my trial session confirmed that she was the right woman for the job. She gave me a lot of tips for the big day, including bringing clip in hair extensions to make my hair look fuller. She was always responsive to my emails as well. On the day of, she nailed my hair and makeup and made minor changes to add onto the look we achieved during my trial (like picking lashes that suited me even better). My hair and makeup lasted all night and I got a ton of compliments on the look. I was so happy with how everything turned out! read more

I wish I could give Ann more than 5 stars because she deserves them all. I've had my hair and makeup done by her on two occasions now and both times she's done a phenomenal job. Usually when I do my own makeup, a few hours later, my eyeliner has smudged to under my eye and my foundation is half gone, but when she puts makeup on you, it stays there. I even fell asleep on the couch later in the day before I washed my face and when I woke up, I still looked like I had just stepped out of her studio. She's also very sweet and easy to talk to. I highly recommend her for anyone looking for a makeup and hair artist! read more

Ann came highly recommended by one of my close friends because she is well experienced with Asian eyes and is very respectful of those who prefer a more natural look. I did not want to feel like I had cake on my face during my wedding, so I made sure to reach out to Ann at least a year before the planned date. I booked a trial with her shortly after, and signed a contract with Ann almost immediately. On the day of, she kindly explained to me every change she planned to make from our trial to make sure I was okay with it, which I really appreciated. I loved the end product and enjoyed my conversation with her throughout the entire process. My mom, who is usually pretty picky with how her makeup and hair is done (despite not usually wearing makeup or doing her hair), absolutely loved her hair and makeup the day of my wedding. Still waiting on solo pictures, which will be posted once available! read more

Ann is amazing! She had helped with my hair and makeup for our elopement and did an incredible job. She was efficient and professional throughout the entire process and helped answer any questions I had while providing insightful suggestions on styles that best suit me. Really helped ease any potential concerns I may have. Scheduling and initial discussions went super smoothly as she was communicative and responsive. Highly recommend! read more

I researched many MUAs in the bay area. I don't get my make up done professionally so I was actually surprised at the going rate for wedding make up and hair. I wanted someone who was experienced in working with hooded eyes, and hard-to-handle Asian hair (when I curl it myself, it never stays!). I seriously contemplated about whether or not to do my own hair and make up but I wanted to look great for my wedding photos and not have to stress about my hair falling apart or smudging eyeliner. I decided it was my special day to splurge for myself and go with Ann! But since this was already a spurge for me, I did not do the hair and make up trial before the wedding. Ann is prompt with all emails and makes everything easy to understand. She is easy to talk to and gives make up advice too! I brought pictures of my hair inspirations for my bridesmaid and I since we did not have trials. Ann recommended that I show her a self photo of how I do my "going out" make up- which I realized is a great idea! That way your final look will still look like you, without straying too far. She is patient and explains each make up step, why she chose a particular color, how she applies it, and how it'll accentuate each facial feature. I wish I remembered all her tips but with only 2 hours of sleep and having to wake up at 5:30am-my brain wasn't fully func! With Ann's touch, my hair and make up was perfect for my 12 full hour wedding!!! My hair and make up were great in photographs, even with flash on! Even though I was running around, sweating, eating, drinking and ...amazingly the make up did not show any alcohol redness! 10/10 read more

Ann was my hair and makeup artist for my wedding day, and she is TRULY incredible! Ann did my makeup in a way that didn't look heavy, but in a more natural yet glam sort of way, so that my eyes still popped. My makeup did not budge at all the whole day--to the point where I didn't need any touch-ups. Don't know how that was possible throughout a 10-hour day, but it happened and it was amazing! As for the hair, I showed Ann pictures of what I had in mind during my trial and she made it even better! She's very OCD about little details, which I love, and my hair looked great and didn't fall out at all later in the day/night. Ann was able to put a lot of volume and style into my hair without using any extensions. It was the first time that I got multiple compliments, specifically on my hair, from both men and women ha! Ann was super professional, punctual, and has a team of stylists that make your bridesmaids look good as well! As a bride, you have so many worries of things going wrong, but with Ann, looking good was not one of them! read more

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Styles by Ann! During my trial she was super fun to talk to and listened to any concerns I had involving skincare or aspects I was insecure about when it came to how I look. I was unable to do a hair trial prior to my wedding but was confident in her ability to create on the spot. And boy, she delivered! On my wedding day I showed her a few images of what I had in mind and she created the hairstyle of my dreams. Not only is her work detailed and professional, but also the way she enhanced my features and brought out my individual beauty was breathtaking. She made me look and feel beautiful! Ann is the most PROFESSIONAL make up artist I have EVER worked with. She is reliable and her background backs up her artistic skills. I have worked with her for over 5 photoshoots including ones in Los Angeles for tearsheets in magazines. I have referred her to several other photographers in Norcal and Socal. She is priceless and I would book her again. Because she is the most desired, she is always booked, so book in advance. read more

Ann's talent is superceded by few, if any, in the South Bay in terms of makeup and hair. She has an incredible amount of experience, obvious in plethora of event makeup posted to both Yelp and her blog. I had a trial with her (during which she allowed me to use the Groupon) and she was amazing (see photos). Ann asked numerous questions especially about my daily makeup wear and what kind of look I was hoping to achieve. She essentially enhanced my makeup (I was going for a glam look) and added two layers of false lashes for more drama. She is the only makeup artist I've dealt with so far who has noticed and corrected my uneven eyelids. She showed me a side chignon with beautiful, intricate hair weaving and soft loose curls. Unfortunately, she is now pregnant and her due date is only a few days after our wedding (end of May 2013). She gave me two options: to cancel our contract entirely, or she would show one of her girls (of my choice) how she did my makeup. I opted to cancel the contract, and lost the $99 for the trial. I did want to note that she mentioned my hair was too short and fine for the voluminous look I wanted to achieve. She suggested I do extensions before my wedding and not cut my hair for as long as I could tolerate. The MAC foundation also emphasized my frown wrinkles a few hours later after my trial. Ann was my number one choice to have as my makeup and hair artist for my wedding, but due to unforeseen circumstances (much to my dismay), I will have to opt for someone else. I would recommend her in a heartbeat though, and if you can book her, do so! Her work looks pretty darn good in pictures. read more

Ann is awesome with a great personality to boot. Really approachable. She has duplicate entries on yelp.com I reported a month ago that still aren't fixed yet. Her actual office address is: 1619 S. Main Street #103 Milpitas, CA 95035 But she's only there by appointment. It's inside an office building with no outside signage so can take awhile to find as well. Best way to reach her is by email at stylesbyann@gmail.com. She was really good about responding and understanding about the chaotic weather possibly ruining the shoot (it was pretty much raining the two days right before the shoot date so I was really lucky the skies cleared up in time!). Allow a couple of hours for her to work her magic. She's also really good with asian complexions. My skin is fairly blotchy, yes I have some acne, skin can get oily, and on top of that I'm tan. She seemed a little bit heavy-handed on the foundation and powder, but she knew the end product well (what the camera will actually capture). She also styled my super-straight hair. My hair is so stubbornly straight that it uncurls itself on one end (even with copious amounts of hairspray or mousse in it), before I'm even done curling the other. I was also a bit worried about getting my makeup done in the morning when the shoot wouldn't finish until around 6PM. But I really shouldn't have. I just got the pictures this week and I look flawless in them. I owe great thanks to Ann for doing such a great job. She matched my complicated skintone perfectly. The curls stayed well into the next night. The false eyelashes were so much fun they stayed on for 8 days before finally coming loose in a corner (I had to wash my hair upside down in the sink and my face really carefully around my eyes during those days though so they wouldn't wash off). Did I mention yet how absolutely awesome she is? I'm now such a huge fan =D. read more

For those of you debating whether or not to have your hair and makeup professionally done for your wedding day - DO! While the initial sticker shock may dissuade you, in the end it is completely worth it as your mind will be at ease knowing that your beautification needs are in the hands of a highly skilled professional - and that your photos will turn out beautifully. Styles by Ann is the best bet around - Ann is a total pro, and her prices are very reasonable. I hired Ann to do my hair and makeup for my wedding in November 2012. She did an absolutely phenomenal job, after working with me through a trial-run (which I was able to schedule the same day as my engagement portrait) - we came up with the perfect look. Ann is a good communicator, very straightforward, and really educated me throughout the process on the techniques that work best for my skin type, etc. I was adamant that I did not want to look 'over-done' - didn't want to go overboard with the makeup - and she ended up respecting that, but still giving me the perfect amount so that the wedding photos turned out just as I would have liked them. I received so many compliments on my hair and makeup on my wedding day (and still, people remember how great it looked) - Ann really made me look regal. She came to my hotel early on the morning of my wedding day to take care of my hair and makeup. Because I knew I was in good hands, I was able to chill out that morning and soak it all in - I can't tell you how priceless it is to put yourself in a professional's hands, and let them do the heavy lifting! It is worth every penny. There is just no way that I, or any of my friends, could have provided the coverage and look that Ann did. Ann was super easy to work with and I secretly can't wait until my next big event, so I can use her again! THANK YOU, ANN!!! ~Shannon read more

I found out about Ann through one of my co workers, and it was very last minute. That being said, I had no time to go in and get a demo done. So the first time I met Ann was actually the day of my wedding. She had no idea what I even looked like before then. Talk about being risky! Now this is the true testament of her amazing skills. She took one look at me, and just started right away. She did my hair and makeup in two hours, and she did the most amazing job. Just to put it in perspective, my aunt took one look at me and said, "I did not know you could look this pretty" (thanks auntie). I danced ALL NIGHT and sweated through two different outfits. Then, I went home with some friends (and of course, my hubby) and we stayed up for a couple hours. Then in my exhaustion, I went to bed without washing my face and hair. (gross, right?) The next morning, I woke up, and I still looked amazing! I don't know how she does it, but Ann is not a makeup artist, she is a magician. And thanks to her, my night was magical, and I was a princess all night. Thank you so much Ann!! read more

Love the makeup. I have a mono lid which makes eyelid makeup slightly more difficult to put on because of the fold and it gets covered. She did a great job with my makeup and walked through the process. I don't know how to put on makeup and she told me about what she's putting on and what to expect like how lashes would feel after they're glued on. Very easy to work with and would come back when I need professional makeup again. read more

I was shocked to see some 1 star reviews, but I hope that will not pass judgement until you read the rest of the reviews. Ann's a sweetheart and definitely know what she's doing when it comes to make up. She's friendly, professional, and reasonable, She passionate and can transform anyone into anything ( I think?) :) Her work is stunning and she had an amazing team behind her. Just remember, communication is key. If you don't like something, you have to speak up. Given that her work is great, you may have different feelings about it, and as a make up artist, she will take that as constructive criticism and do something else that you will be pleased with. I love her. She's great. Makes me look and feel good, and can make me look younger. Who wouldn't want her?! :D read more

When I was looking for a makeup artist I made a list of the top rated makeup artists on yelp and asked my bridesmaids to sift through all the portfolios. We all unanimously agreed that Ann's makeup portfolio was the strongest and her price was very reasonable. I made an appointment for a hair and makeup trial and was very pleased with the results! On the day of the wedding, Ann showed up as promised and ready to go. After a couple hours and hair extensions later I was transformed into a beautiful bride! I LOOVED how the makeup came out in the photos! I highly recommend Ann for bridal makeup. She is reliable, punctual, personable and really knew how to calm my jittery nerves. My wedding was in April and Ann and her team were amazing!!!! Finding the perfect hair and makeup artist for my wedding was one of the hardest part of the planning. I honestly thought I will never find someone that I can trust completely and not be scared of the result on the day of until I found A-List Makeup. Ann was wonderful from start to finish. She was very responsive to all my emails, from the first one to in the months leading up to my wedding day. She and her team came to my hotel room in San Francisco the morning of my wedding to do hair & makeup for me, my bridesmaids, sisters and mom, and we had such a fun and stress-free morning working with them!! I had two trials with with Ann, first one was for both make up and hair and the second one for trying a different hair style since I was not exactly sure of what I wanted. Ann made me feel so comfortable at the first trial that I felt like I knew her for a long time and that I can trust that she will listen to me and to what I was looking for. Before starting the second trial, she shared her thoughts of the styles that I was going for and give me some suggestions which I am so thankful for. She tried couple of different styles on my hair and played with few different ideas until we found the ONE !!! I originally decided to wear my hair up in a certain style that I always had thought it will look good on me, then after trying that style at the trial I did not feel all that. We made another trial for my hair only and at that meeting was when I knew she is the only person I can work with and have on my special day. I had my hair up for my ceremony and down for the reception. Both styles looked amazing!!! She truly is a pure delight to work with, professional, responsive, and super talented. Honestly, I can't even believe that on the day of I was not worried at all and I told her to do whatever she thinks works the best, I was so happy with my hair and make up and got so many compliments:) If you are looking for a true artist who is professional, fun and easy to work with, and will make you look and feel beautiful, I would strongly recommend Ann and her team!! I already have referred couple of friends and can't wait to use them again for any future special occasions when I need hair and make up done! I can't thank you enough Ann but know that every time I look at any of my photos I thank you in my heart for your beautiful work and amazing work :) read more

Ann exceeded my expectations when she did my hair and makeup on my wedding day. Ann was very accommodating and easy to work with. She's very professional and was timely in communication leading up to our wedding, as well as being super prompt the day-of. And, she's just really freakin' genuinely nice. Like others have said, she has a great eye for what works best for you! I was trying to tone my hair style down but she encouraged me to glam up more than I normally would, and I'm so glad I went with her decision. :-P When would I ever wear such glamorous hair again, if not for my own wedding, right!? The old "Hollywood" curls style she created for me is well suited for Asian hair/faces and she was trained especially in this method. I can't describe it well, but she'll be able to explain better if you ask her. I was firm in doing my own make-up and I only regret not following her advice to put it on more heavily ;-) Dang it, Ann, you were right!! LOL My great friends ended up putting make-up more heavily on my eyes, etc for the reception so I have better photos. Ultimately, I'm still glad I chose to do my own make-up because I'm particular about it and wanted to look most like myself (mission accomplished). I had a giant boatload of help from my more-experienced girlfriends, but Ann still had good advice that I should have followed. :-P read more

I had a trial with Ann for my wedding make up and was not impressed. After explaining to her what I wanted, (bridal, light make up but with a WOW factor, a little dramatic) she did a very plain smokey eye and it was exactly the same as i would get from the Mac counter. I think a great make up artist is supposed to feel and understand their client and make them as beautiful as they can be, not apply a very basic smokey eye on the same face over and over. i am sorry, but I was not impressed. read more

WHAT A GEM! I went to ann for a makeup trial and got hair/makeup done for an engagement shoot. She's amazing...hair/makeup was flawless. She's really easy to work with and I love her business style; very detail oriented and organized. Before each appointment, ann will send her client a confirmation email (this has been a lifesaver especially if your schedule is jam packed). I love seeing her work her magic. She's done both a dramatic look and a natural look on me. Ann's just really good at enhancing a person's natural beauty. I've also booked her for 3 more events - can't wait to be transformed :) read more

For my October 11, 2008 wedding, I booked Ann as my makeup artist and hairstylist. I normally do not wear a lot of makeup and the only thing I do with my hair is wear it down or up in a ponytail. I had some concerns about my tattoos showing in my wedding photos, as I was wearing a dress that exposed my back and Ann helped me with covering those too. My biggest concerns were; a hairstyle that did not suit my face/body or style (for my wedding dress) and makeup that looked too heavy or did not stay put for a long enough time and would need a lot of retouching after photos, dancing, changing, eating, perspiring etc (weddings are long from start to finish). I did not have any idea how I wanted my hair done, so I asked Ann what she would suggest given the shape of my face, my hair length, my height, my neck/shoulder type and my dress style and went with her suggestion. After Ann did my makeup trial, I went out to lunch with my girlfriends and my then-fiance. They loved her work and I booked her the same day. Load of stress off my shoulders! Ann gave me a few suggestions and tips on what to do before my wedding day. I had my long hair layered and when Ann arrived the day of my wedding to work with me, everything went very smoothly. I must say that Ann is very easy to work with, she was very punctual, completely prepared and worked with ease even with all the commotion and fuss in the house (lots of people including relatives, children, barking dogs and bridal party members running around trying to get things together). I did not feel rushed or bored. I felt very at ease working with Ann. Like someone else said, she does not pressure you to purchase more services than you want. I would always recommend the trial session though. It gives both the artist and the bride/client a chance to see what they are working with and to 'tweak' things for the big day. When Ann was done my hair and makeup were perfect. The makeup did not look or feel overdone/heavy. It was better than natural, fresh/clean and beautiful! The makeup stayed put for over 13 hours, and that is even after dancing! I didn't need to reapply! I got compliments from everyone, including the most brutal critics in my circle of friends and family members. So far everyone who sees my wedding pictures has also compliment me on my hair and makeup. They even asked for her website/contact info. That's when you know the makeup artist you chose rocks! Without hesitation, I would confidently and highly recommend Ann. I am definitely looking forward to booking her for future events. read more

When the contract looked good, i signed it and returned to her but never got a reply from her. My friend explained that its because i have only 3 bridemaids, which made her unhappy and in order to qualified for Ann's service, there must be at least 6 or 8 bridemaids. At least she should have given me a profesional denial from beginning to not waste my time. Ann did my hair and makeup for my Sept wedding. She and I got along really well. She made me feel at ease and was brutally honest, which I appreciate. She also arranged for the stylist who did the mom's and wedding party makeup. While she was over $1k (total for 5 ladies; Ann only did mine but coordinated the makeup artist), it was worth it and the pictures came out nice. I was totally ok with her booking more than one wedding. I wanted a relatively natural look and that's what I got, along with some great smoky eyes. If you want more WOW than natural, I'm sure you can get it. I think she was just great with following instructions and keeping her cool. She was also fast and responsive with emails. One of the things that really bothered me about other makeup artists I tried (I went through 3 trials altogether!) was how fake and money-grubbing they were. She was also quick (I mean, really it shouldn't take 3-4 hrs to put on your face)... Ann was not like that. I like efficient, honest, and fast --- because believe me, you wanna look great but you want as much sleep the night before as possible! No makeup can hide tiredness and sagging eyes! The only thing I wish is that the makeup brand Ann used on the actual day was different from the one she tried on me, and I personally liked the brand we did the trial with. Regardless, things came out fine. I did not have her all day, just from about 10am-noon'ish. Thanks ANN! You made me laugh and glad we bonded a bit. BTW, I chose Styles by Ann over Jira from Wowpretty (too heavy and not me) and Maria from PMA (too light, it all came off within an hour) .both referrals that did not work out. The unfortunate thing in this industry is that trials run is $200 wasted money just to see how (bad) they each were. It's insane. read more
