FINALLY a fabulous cut and color by same stylist! AKB is the BEST. I had reached the point of depression. I have short naturally curly hair. It has to be cut perfectly or it just doesn't work. At the beginning of my first visit with AKB I knew I put my curls in the right hands. He prefers his clients to come in with their hair down and styled. AKB is the best. I went in without having a hair cut in over two years and a dye job over a dye job (completely fried- I seriously couldn't even run a brush through it). He made my hair look and feel good and showed me different ways in which I could style it and how to take care of it. He'll make you feel like a total VIP, but better than that, you'll feel awesome every day, not just while you're in his chair. He gives you the tools to keep up you're great looking hair. Let me give you a bit of backstory real quick... Before AKB started cutting my hair, I NEVER paid for haircuts. Seriously. Never. From buzzing my head on the back porch to mooching haircuts from friends who had a pair of scissors, I did anything and everything to avoid paying even $5 for a haircut. Fast forward to today, where I regularly stop in at Bungalow No.3 for a trim, and I don't even think twice about paying the price. AKB is great at what he does. Seriously great, and seriously creative. This dude is a master with shears, but beyond that, he has a creative vision for every haircut he provides. That's a big plus for someone like me, who has absolutely ZERO vision for his hair. These days, I don't even show up for a cut with expectations or requests in mind. I just let AKB do what he does, because let's face it... the guy knows about 1000 times more about hair than I ever will. I like to tell people that I've out-sourced the entirety of my hair styling to an expert. I don't even have to think about it anymore. Ultimately, this works because I trust AKB 100%. The biggest win for me in becoming a regular Bungalow No.3 patron is the relationship I've built with AKB over the last year-and-a-half. He's a great friend, and I wouldn't trade that friendship for anything. I'll usually linger at the salon for 1-2 hours after my cut just to hang out with the guy and catch up. He works with the shape of your head like an artist to give you a style that is not only super flattering but grows out really well. From effed up to fabulous! I had a terrible haircut no thanks to a "stylist" I tried in Houston. AKB took on the challenge to repair the damage and worked a miracle! He was so thoughtful in his consultation and really explained what we were working with and how we would fix it, and he gave me a good plan for further correcting the damage of that shoddy cut as my hair grows. I can't even begin to explain how much I LOVE Bungalow No.3! I NEVER used to do anything with my hair, until I met A.K.B. I'd occasionally go get my hair cut at Aveda (whenever my mom wanted to treat me,) but most of the time I would get it done by a friend. Most of the haircuts and styling I've had in the past were good, but nothing comparable to Anthony's work. He's incredibly passionate, creative, and knowledgeable about hair, and it really, really shows. When I first came to him, he took time to get to know me a bit before even touching my hair. He said he wanted my hair to compliment my personality- which is such a cool way of going about it!! I've never met anyone that does that before and I think it's just a genius idea. Because of that philosophy (and his sheer talent), I've always come out of his salon really pleased. I don't even ask for anything specific whenever I come in anymore- I just let him do his thing. It always comes out different and AMAZING, and I like to think that it matches me as a person every single time. He really knows how to take care of you! The salon is located in a really cute blue house off of South Congress, just south of Ben White. It's the third house in this lot (hence the name Bungalow No.3!) He has a really nice waiting room with complimentary drinks available while you wait. He's really knowledgeable and talented with all sorts of hair. I've had many friends that go to him about problems with hair that is too thin, too frizzy, or too coarse and he always knows how to fix them. Anthony has become a great friend over going to him for the past few years. I'm not in Austin as much anymore, but I always go out of my way to get my hair done by him. It's just SO worth it. I've had my hair cut by both Charlie and Anthony. They are BOTH fantastic! Reasonably priced, very good at what they do, and very nice guys. They both take their time cutting, and make sure you get what you want, not the "one hair cut I know how to do" that you get from many stylists. Wish I could give them more stars! Update 12/29/14: With great sadness I now have to find another stylist. I've had difficulty booking with Charlie a few times, including him being double booked and rushing both of us through, as well as them getting my appointment time wrong a couple of times. A couple of times he's been booked out quite a ways, so I did check with his partner Anthony and/or another stylist I know to see if they could get me in sooner before replying if it was still available I'd take it. On the 23rd I asked for his next available time. It was a bit too far out for me, so I texted his partner Anthony to see if he had anything sooner, but he didn't. I texted Charlie back the next day and said if the time was still available I'd take it. No response. I texted today to confirm and his wife texted me saying they think it's best I find another stylist since (this is directly quoted): "When you couldn't get in, you were quick to go to a different stylist" (Actually, I never went anywhere else). "He can't have his clients going to whoever because the client waited until the last minute." Yes, I've been fired by my hair stylist... In short, both Anthony and Charlie are fantastic stylists, just know that they've become busy and quite a bit less tolerant of.. well, I'm not exactly sure what. I've never asked for special treatment, I've always been polite, I've never cancelled or been late for an appointment, and I've always tipped well. Just make sure to give yourself plenty of time to make your appointment, and confirm it a day or two in advance! read more

I have really short hair and stopped coloring it light blonde awhile back. I was done with all over bleach but feeling so blah and boring. Most stylists I talked to said they could highlight my hair because it was too short. I came across all of these awesome reviews for AKB and figured I would reach out. From the moment we started talking I could tell this guy knew his stuff and really cared about his clients. I could not wait to get in to see him! And after he saw a pic of my frumpy horrible hair cut and color he got me in quick! His salon is so cozy and the vibe is amazing.
