This pains me.... I have been going to GN for quite some time. And for the majority of that time....great staff...great service....great energy. tonight really irritated me in a way that I can firmly say, I won't be going back. Now what I'm about to say is not about ego or entitlement . I know me. I know what I do for my bar staff. My tips are generous! Unquestioned. Not because I'm a big spender but I know the struggle and hard times bartenders and wait staff go through during a shift of drunks. The first incident was standing at the bar about to order and a person from behind shouts out his order and the bartender makes it while seeing I'm standing there waiting to order. My options are to (A) be a jerk and yell "hey!! I was here first!!!" or "just take it and move on"... I did the last one. So when it's closing time and I tell the bartender, I like one more and close, then you confirm with me "Glenn you want 1 more and close?" I say "yes" and you tab me out and immediately start dealing with your other customers and not making my drink.... So I say after 5mins of being ignored " did you get my drink on that tab out?" You tell me you didn't and try to charge me for another drink.... I'm quite certain you charged me for that drink on my tab-out but just forgot and started serving your other customers forgetting about me. It's easier to just avoid the argument to not look like an ass over a drink so I left. Horny Toads....Dirty Water Saloon...even Star Light Lounge have never treated me like this. So instead of causing a scene and asking for my bill to be checked, it's easier to talk my hard earned dollars elsewhere to be appreciated. Peace..... read more

I love going to A Great Notion for karaoke. This is a real Texas dive bar. Neon signs all around the bar and sports on their big screen TVs, plus lots of seating and room for dancing. They also have one pool table and an area for darts. The drinks are cheap and there is a big open free parking lot in front. Karaoke is always fun and a mixed age crowd so lots of variety in what people sing. Check it out! read more

Ive always wanted to know what its like in here! My friend, Jess was looking forsomething to do on a Saturday evening. I suggested we check out A Great Notion since, Ive heard a lot about it. Its actually a Karokee Pub! This is a very small pub with no smoking. Thank you, Jesus! If your a smoker you can smoke outside. As you walk in to the left, there looks like their was a place for a payphone. It is super dark in there. Theres a steep step in the entrance so watch your step! Everyone here keeps to themselves. Its a really mature crowd. The Karookee was Krunk. The Hostess had a great voice and she was confident in her ability to sing. There was a bag that you walk up too and pick out a song, totally random. You had no idea what song or Genre you would be singing! Everything from Guns n Roses to Country! I've lived in Ridgmar for almost 60 years, I thought I would go here for a drink Now and then and hang out with people who might have grown up in my neighborhood, but, most of the people who hang out here are not from this neighborhood, the bar tending staff can be very rude, I was asked to get out of a chair at the bar, there were no other people in the bar at that time, but someone came in and told me that was their chair, I said excuse me, but I'm sitting here, the bar tender told me to get out of the "drunken psycho dudes chair" so I called her a bitch, now I'm "barred" so it's for the best, I really think the bartender Cindy was jealous, I had become very popular with a lot of the patrons there, I could never make her "smile" I tried very hard, but she's a real "sour puss" bye now Notion. read more

Worst customer service and atmosphere I have ever experienced in a local watering hole! I have never been so mistreated and disrespected in a place where I am a patron the same as everyone else. This place no longer has the same great reputation it once did when the original owner was still alive. The woman who sits in the corner has run everyone off or pissed them off to a point where they don't want to come in. Worst place to do Karaoke in town. Why have karaoke if the old cronies are gonna bitch and complain the whole time that it's "Too Loud!!" You can't even hear yourself sing because the volume is so low as to not upset the old Cronies! We went on Saturday for karaoke. As soon as we walked in the female bartender screamed at us "I need to see ID's" which made the entire bar turn and stare at us. She was very unpleasant. The younger male bartender that was there that night was very nice and helpful, got us beers as soon as she was done checking our ID's. Be prepared for the bartender to collect your ID's and walk off without saying anything, she will return them when she is able to read them. Don't ask where she is going with them, she will get snippy with you as she did with us. The bar is pretty smokey. The beer was pretty cheap so thats a plus. The karaoke was actually set up pretty well and the lady running it was great. The problem I had was that this is an over 50 bar. If you are younger than 50 and want to mingle with your crowd. This is not the place for you. We felt uncomfortable and unwelcome from the time we walked in. Maybe we caught the place on a bad night, everyone has bad days right? read more

I like going to this bar because it's walking distance from my apartments. The jukebox is old but still has good tunes...the pool table is always available. It has an older crowd and a bunch of regulars but it's not a bad hangout spot. Their beer selection sucks but hey they have Johnnie Walker Black label for only $5. read more

Want to like this dive bar, but when the bartender ignores you when you want in on the football pot, and the KJ purposely turns your volume down because they can tell you and your date can actually sing and are not regulars so she feels her job is threatened- ridiculous. I hate that I was discriminated against in my date night and couldn't enjoy myself. read more

With a wide open layout this place is great for those that need the elbow room.
