Lucinda and Pat were amazing! I'm maid of honor for my best friend (who's wedding is on Halloween of this year.) Our bride was not as excited about dress shopping but I was able to make an appointment very easily and was able to surprise the bride with a fun afternoon appointment! Lucinda pulled many options for us and we actually found a dress for the bride that fit her perfectly but was definitely the opposite of what we thought we'd want for her completely! Pat, as well , went above and beyond to help us visualize how the dress would look next to the grooms suit which helped tremendously. Working with Lucinda and her husband (I'm sorry I can't quite remember his name, Pat maybe? Excuse me if i'm wrong!) was an absolute dream. Lucinda listened to everything I wanted and made sure no detail out of my dream wedding dress was missed. I explained my vision, and not only did she bring it to life, but she really made me feel like the right dress would "come to me" and it sure did. I was insecure about my stomach after having a c-section just 4 months ago, and she encouraged me throughout the entire appointment not to put myself down because I looked gorgeous! Absolutely love this shop! It's sort of a little known secret, I think. Tucked away in Kennesaw, most people I've talked to have never heard of it. You should...they're amazing! I just bought my wedding dress from them and am so excited to wear it! They carry a large selection, the service is great, and they do exactly what they say they will at a reasonable price. I actually bought a high-quality, authentic designer gown, a veil, and a brooch and came in $500 under budget! Make an appointment for more personalized (and not rushed) service. Walk-ins are accommodated if possible, but I'm glad I had an appointment time just for me. They allow you to pick 5 gowns you like, and they go from there, narrowing down what you like and don't like about each gown. In all, I probably tried on 9 dresses there - and I was there for 2 1/2 hours and was never rushed out the door or hurried along. No pushy sales tactics - I found a dress I loved but told her up front I had an appointment at another salon and couldn't commit to the dress yet. She actually encouraged me to go to the other salon if that's what I needed to do to feel comfortable, but offered me an appointment to come back AFTER I went to the other salon and try on the dress I loved one more time before making a decision. She was right...I came back and then was 100% sold on my decision to buy the gown from them. You get the experience of an owner/associate who has spent decades in the business...she knows her stuff. In fact, she was the one who suggested I try on the gown I ended up purchasing! I ordered in June and it actually came in 3 weeks earlier than they told me. I just tried on MY dress for the very first time, and it's great! So far, I have no complaints about this shop. She let me pay half up front and the other half when the dress came in (which was awesome), and I was allowed to take my veil and brooch after full payment. They kept my dress there so I wouldn't have to schlep it back and forth when alterations time comes around. I have yet to do alterations, which is in a separate shop downstairs from them, apparently. I'm still a few months out from my wedding date, so we're not ready to cross that bridge yet. I can't speak on that part of the service, but so far, the shop itself is a real winner! I went to another with a good reputation and good service, but the quality of the gowns was just not the same. So glad I came here! read more

I had just gone through a bad online dress experience and had 3 months to find a wedding dress before the big day. It was stressful to say the least. I'm the pickiest person alive and can't even tell you how many dress stores I went to before this one. But before even stepping foot in this place, I got a positive vibe. Lucinda, the owner, spoke with me on the phone the night before and after explaining my situation she spoke confidently about how we would find my dress and it would be ready in time. It made me feel better given how panicked I was. Katie was my consultant and she was so sweet and patient with me. In fact, everyone there was so friendly. And not pushy at all. Now, I'm not one of those brides that goes "this is the one" with tears. I am very meticulous about the details and had a whole checklist of things I wanted. The dress I ended up choosing was gorgeous but missing the sweetheart neckline I wanted. But given my short timeline, I decided to make the purchase. It was amazing quality for the price and overall met most of my criteria. Then they referred me to Sandy for alterations and guess what? She altered the dress and added a sweetheart neckline! On my daughter's day off we planned to hit a few wedding gown stores on the main road in Kennesaw. We didn't realize, however, that everything was appointment only- even to browse. About the time we were ready to call it quits, we called A Formal Occasion and Lucinda immediately answered. They were super friendly and made us feel super comfortable. They helped my daughter find the perfect gown, just for her. We mentioned needing a few modifications for modesty purposes, and we were shown beautiful ways that their recommended seamstress could accommodate that, without losing the elegance of the dress. I am so glad we found our dress there! A day I remembered being stressful 24 years ago as a future bride, was the most enjoyable experience at A Formal Occasion. No photograph signs are posted, but they take some for you and email as momentos. I had to order a bridesmaid dress from here and it was anything but easy. I also found the owner very rude and inconsiderate. I was measured in November, had my dress ordered around Christmas, and it came in May. When I went to try it on it would not fit over my hips. The owner insisted that I had gained two inches in my wait and bust which was impossible as everything else I owned still fit. Others in the bridal party also had the same problem, one friend was a size 8 but they had to reorder her a size 16. I would have had no problem had they admitted their mistake and fixed the problem. But they were nasty and I've never felt so overweight as I did in this bridal shop and I'm a size 2!!! They reordered me a new dress and it came in 2 weeks before the wedding and I STILL had to pay $60 to have it altered. read more

I went here to look for wedding dresses with one of my bridesmaids. From the moment we walked in the door, we received awesome, helpful, and friendly advice. Lucinda was my consultant. She was professional, cheerful, and definitely knew her dresses. She let me peruse at my convenience, making recommendations but not being pushy. I tried on a total of 6 dresses. One that I would've passed up-that Lucinda recommended-ended up being the most stunning one. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 for now is because I want to visit a few more places to get an overall feel for things (I've only visited 3 shops total). But once I visit more shops, I'll likely to bump this up to 5 stars. And I'm seriously considering buying the dress that I loved. The store looks very small on the outside, but when you go in, you'll see a LOT of selection and they can get virtually anything in the size you need. Back in 2012 I got my prom dress here and have a very good experience. I came here again looking for wedding dresses. The owner was helpful and kind. I had gone to other stores to try on dresses (those were much too chaotic). I came by on a weekday to just talk and set up an appointment and she suggested I come in by myself to try on some things before I bring in my whole family. ( I was confused on what I wanted, because of trying on previous dresses). I got to try on the styles I liked and set those aside for when my family came to town. Prior to my wedding, I was unfamiliar with A Formal Occasion. However, after several gown fittings at others places, and with the help of Google I found "A Formal Occasion". Due to my busy schedule and the unfamiliarity with this bridal boutique, this ended up being my last scheduled appointment before calling it quits and settling for a previous purchased dress that I was not in love with. Thankfully, from the very beginning (prior to arriving) the stylist Katie sent me welcoming text messages with genuinely anticipating my arrival. Upon arrival I noticed a welcome message on the board outside with my name personalized. Both of these things were quite special. The boutique is beautiful inside with a very pleasant ambiance. The dress collections were very different from most I've seen and they were all gorgeous. Must I add, I was completely shocked and pleased with the experience this far. Disappointed from a failed dress shopping experience earlier that morning, I happened to have a flyer in my purse from A Formal Occasion in Kennesaw. I called the shop and asked if they could fit me in...like NOW. Lucinda was super excited and energetic and told me to just come on. I got there and she and her staff were helpful, respectful of my budget and offered suggestions and helpful tips in selecting a dress. One dress that I really liked wasn't in in my size but luckily it had been ordered and would be in soon. Once I narrowed down my selection to about 4, Lucinda even offered to see if she could get one fo the dresses that wasn't available in plus size sent to the store from the designer so I could try it on to make my final decision. I felt totally relaxed and at ease at A Formal Occasion. I will definitely be getting my dress from here.
