What hasn't changed is the quality of the food, the availability of triple chocolate brownies and popcorn 24/7, refreshing mint cucumber water, and treats in bowls scattered throughout the common areas. Elaine and Robert run a place that is impeccably clean and incredibly hospitable. They are very quick to address any concern or engage in friendly conversation. It is obvious they are experts in providing guests with an enjoyable stay. We stayed in the Ivy Room in the Manor. It isn't large, and it is at the top of the main stairs, but it's quiet and was just fine for us. The common areas are perfectly appointed for reading or eating or playing games. We had breakfast in the morning and played table games at night on the screened porch, which is lovely and especially charming in the dark. Re: things to do, there is plenty to keep you occupied at the B&B. We spent most of our days wandering around South Haven--walks on the beach, sunset at the pier, going into town for shopping and meals--or in other nearby lake towns, though, and relished the peace of the inn later in the day. If you are there when it's not crowded (e.g., during the week), YMBB has a pedal-powered surrey you can borrow! I will say, I was worried about the change in breakfast service since last time the buffet was amazing. My concern was unfounded, though--being served was delightful and the food options expanded with the inclusion of specialty entrees. We were provided with amuse-bouches of local blackberries with a dollop of whipped cream, plates of a variety of other local fruits, and plenty of choices from the standard and changing menus. My husband enjoyed the decadent quiches and I was happy to see steel-cut oatmeal on offer (with vanilla rhubarb syrup!). We discovered how wonderful hummus or sweet potato could be in the morning, too. Elaine expanded my idea of what breakfast could be, both for myself and at a B&B; I didn't miss casseroles, muffins, or bacon/sausage at all (like what we've had at other places). A special touch that highlights their personalized service -- I mentioned to Robert one afternoon that I meant to tell Elaine to save me some of the edges that are trimmed off before the triple chocolate brownies are served. He found some for me within a few minutes and, when my husband and I arrived at breakfast the next morning, there was a plate of them put side with plastic wrap and a note with my name. So thoughtful! Those chewy edges are my FAVORITE. Even in the smallest, least expensive room, we consider a trip to YMBB a special treat. We are the kind of couple who travels by car and engages in cheap adventures (hiking, camping, etc.). Going away without a planned itinerary is out of my comfort zone...usually. This long weekend of relaxation and restoration convinced me there's another way, and the treatment we received at Yelton Manor was no small part of that.

Normally we would be greeted by the innkeeper,but this year, we were greeted by an employee who showed us the room and said the book on the bed would tell us everything we needed to know. We saw the innkeeper only in the kitchen in the AM when we were to go in to tell her our breakfast choice. After that the only way to communicate was to use the phone on the kitchen island. The room was dusty and the furniture well-worn with buttons on the stuffed chairs hanging on by a thread. The bed was uncomfortable. The breakfasts were basic and the same each day. There was a Kerig coffee machine without any K-Cups. There were crumbs on a covered cake stand for 2 days, without refreshing. The only way for the room to be cleaned was to request it either in person or by phone. The reason given for this policy was that it was for our privacy. Privacy and cleaning policies are not mutually exclusive. The screened- in porch was a beautiful spot to relax or have breakfast in the past. It was less welcoming this time. The only plants were dead hanging Boston Ferns, no placemats anywhere and no other decor. You can find pictures of the previously decorated porch online. The once award winning garden was neglected and overgrown. We have stayed at lots of inns and B & Bs in the MIdwestern region. and have never been more disappointed. I hope positive conditions return to The Yelton Manor. It was a pleasure to visit there in the past.

The food was equally good. My prosciutto and burrata app was insanely good. Those capers added just the right amount of saltiness to the dish. My wife had the eggplant app which she said was delicious. The arugula on that app looked so fresh. My bolognese was delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. My wife had the sausage orecchiette which she loved. Desserts were great as well. All things considered, Heritage Social is a home run. I spent quite a few years in Northern New Jersey, the mecca of Italian restaurants. Heritage Social is the real deal. Now, if they could only add a grilled veal chop to the menu...

My sister and I had a pleasant July Sunday-Monday weekend experience at the Inn of Saugatuck. I was…read moreon a visit from Texas and we planned the last few days of my trip to visit there and partake in some fun shopping. My sister and her husband were there years before and had a nice experience. We drove from West Bloomfield which was a two hour straight shot. The parking was easily accessible. The inn is quaint and cozy. We felt welcomed, but there are a few things that Jan, the innkeeper, should note. The interior is very nice, but needs better upkeeping. The room that we were in seemingly had a quick slight over easy "hit or miss" cleaning. The furniture had not been dusted and there were many dust bunnies in the corners of the room. The shower took 10 minutes to get warm. I had taken one at night. The bathroom rug needs to be replaced. It was more of a loose old carpeted rug which can harbor bacteria and didn't seem to have been washed. A better recommendation will be the foam sponge Clara Clark type bathroom mat to use. The toiletries need to be replaced every time new guests arrive if they have been used. There were two bottles of shampoo that were half used remaining there. We didn't touch those. I do not drink tap water and hotels always have at least two complimentary bottles of water. I asked Jan if she had any bottled water and she did not. I had to resort to getting regular water from her refrigerator dispenser. Even a couple of the small 4-6 ounces of bottled water in the guest room would have sufficed. We sat on the back porch prior to breakfast which was a very opened and relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast we had that Monday morning was somewhat continental. The fruit was farm fresh, the coffee and juices were delicious, and her pastry of an apple French toast roll was very nice, but there was no protein. We were looking forward to scrambled eggs to say the least. Protein should be included in the breakfasts. During mid afternoon we saw baggies with chopped up pieces of granola inside. I took a bag in the evening and had to throw the granola away because it was stale. The inn is conveniently located in town. Just walk a few steps and you're welcome to visit most of the shops. A few were closed on both Sunday and Monday. The waterfront is in walking proximity as well. The boat ride adventure was very nice and the restaurants' cuisines were scrumptious. We managed to go to the Douglas Beach, but could not partake in the water because it was too cold, but it was very beautiful. I only saw one picture for the review prior to my input. I have attached a few additional pics. I noticed some people commented about the folks working at The Inn of Saugatuck with emphasis on the innkeeper. Jan was cordial, nice, slightly standoffish, but we figured for some reason that was her personality. She was not rude whatsoever. All in all the visit was very nice, but for the recommended reasons above I am giving four out of five stars. I would not hesitate to visit The Inn of Saugatuck again.

Christopher and Gary, owners, are very welcoming and accomodating. They go out of their way to ensure their guests are completely satisfied. Both rooms we have had during our stays were very nicely appointed, very clean, comfortable and peaceful. The location is ideal, downtown Saugatuck where once you park, you really never have to use your vehicle again as everything is walkable. Highly recommend this venue if you're looking for a place to stay while in the area.

The woman working seemed irritated and annoyed anytime we interacted. I could tell she was the only one there, so I genuinely don't blame her for being overwhelmed, but it still didn't make for a very inviting experience. The tasting room itself was okay. It's a bit dated and could use a refresh, but the biggest issue was simply the atmosphere created by the service. I really hope management can get this location some extra support. The wine is worth stopping for, and with friendlier service, this tasting room could be just as enjoyable as the main location.

I heard so many of our guests raving about them (myself included). For dinner we started with a salad, which was delicious and came with different salad dress choices. The entrees we chose were Italian herb chicken breast and Italian meat lasagna served with roasted redskin potatoes and glazed carrots. Everything was just to die for! The chicken was the best I've ever had, and I was elated to bring home the leftovers (of which there weren't many). Dan also set up multiple soda stations for us, which I was so grateful for because I was thirsty the entire night. I appreciated being able to get a drink whenever I wanted/needed to.
