Scott came by to clean my wood burning stove. He called before arriving. It was a pretty quick job(maybe 30-40min), explained some issues to me and fixed them. Very friendly and left me a bag of fire-lite. I appreciated his tips and though it was a bit expensive for a short job, it's also something I couldnt have done by myself as I'm still learning about it. Scott has cared for the chimneys in my house for many years - since long before I owned the house. Because the house was built in 1876 the three chimneys need quite a bit of care. When I bought the house Scott and his crew re-pointed and significantly repaired the fireplace chimney (which I originally suspected was not saveable) for $3500. It is now beautiful (and safe!) and draws well, and I understand that Scott picked up a few additional jobs from people who saw his work at my house. He has returned four times since to make sure that everything was working as intended, and to clean the woodstove chimneys once a year. I found Scott to be conscientious, tidy, and very honest. He let me know about potential repairs that may be needed in the future with no pressure to do the. If only Scott's skill set and knowledge matched his ego. Hired Scott to help bring my existing wood stove up to "code". Not only was he unprofessional towards his employees, threatening to fire them in front of me, but he spoke negatively about previous clients. He was not knowledgeable, nor spent the time to look up specific clearances for existing stove when installing a new flue. I had to request he come out to correct issues on multiple occasions, though he tried to charge me more than the $950 I had already paid him to complete the job. When I refused, he reluctantly agreed to come and fix the issues free of charge. Ultimately came out and proceeded to once again argue with the recommendations I had brought to him after city inspector came out. Again, he refused to make the changes on the spot, Agreeing to contact the city himself and call me in a week. Not only did he not follow through with contacting the city, he did not contact me again. I requested a receipt of his work on multiple occasions and he too did not follow through on this. I eventually got fed up with the flakiness and had another contractor complete the project. read more
