After calling several automotive places, I ended up going to A+ Autocare and was really pleased with their work and customer service. Dave took my initial call and then helped me when I arrived; super nice and professional. It took a few hours but in the end they confirmed it was the regulator that was broken on my power window and replaced that broken part. They also went ahead and resolved an unrelated 'brake lamp' message on my dash by replacing a 4.99 bulb. I totally appreciated that. Out of all the places I called, A+ Autocare could take care of the broken power window right away. A+ Autocare gave me an AAA discount, work guarantee for 2 yrs/24,000 miles and a car wash. I had called a number of the recommended places (by neighbors on Nextdoor) but they were booked until the end of the week and I wanted to get it fixed before anticipated rain hit! I have been using A+ for more than a decade now. They are in Poway and I live in Ramona. There are good mechanics up here but the service and quality of work at A+ makes it worth the trip, and their shuttle makes it possible for me. The simple truth is that I really trust them and am always impressed with their ethics. It is not very easy to make an appointment with them lately but if it is important I am going to make the wait. We recently relocated from Texas. Knowing little about good auto repair shops in the area, when our Buick started having problem, we pretty much had to pick one auto shop by chance. We didn't have good luck with the first one. After $400+, the car still stumbles under heavy acceleration. I finally made up my mind to spend more time researching the problem on my own and looking for a good auto repair shop in case it is beyond my capability to do the repair myself. It turned out that replacing the spark plugs on my Buick was not as simple as I'd hoped. So I brought my car into this shop and asked for their help. Since I was there anyway, I asked them to do an diagnosis and find out what really was the problem. I explained to them what I had done so far. What impressed me was that Dave, the service representative, suggested me to do the tune-up first, since it was due anyway, and see if it helps with the problem, before spending the $99 diagnostic fee. I agreed to that, and after a new set of spark plugs and wires, the problem was gone. I saved $99, thanks to Dave, and it was $99 extra that he could have made for his shop. It is also nice that they washed and vacuumed my car before handing it back to me. They also provide free shuttle service for the area, although I didn't use it. I am taking one star away for them being pricy. But I will definitely bring my car back if I need repairs in the future. If I consistently receive good service and fair price, I will probably up the rating. Thank you. read more

They kept my vehicle over a week and a half to install 2 gauges in gauge pod (both provided by me along with sending units). They charged me $1000 to install the a pillar pod and gauges. This place is a RIP OFF, thanks for nothing :( read more

A Plus Auto is the best shop in the Poway area. I have been going there for 5 years for regular maintanance and for repairs like oil leaks, water pump replacements and new shocks. They give honest estimates and the mechanics do excellent work. My car and my son's car always run so much better after being serviced at A Plus auto. If there ever is a problem they always make it right. Al and Dave at the front desk give good advice and they really try to make a customer want to return by being honest and trustworthy. Terrible mechanics seem to not know how to do simple jobs even after returning multiple times with the same issue they caused with my breaks they couldn't fix it any of the times, they waste my valuable time and do an unsatisfactory job. They also cross threaded my oil pan plug essentially ruining part of the oil pan. read more

Brought my car in with several lights on. They told me something ate my wires and repaired it. A week later the exact same thing happened, all lights were on again. I called them furious, assuming their first diagnoses of the lights was wrong. I brought my car back in and they said something ate the wires again! The service manager suggested I set a trap where my car was parked. I left doubting them and was pretty upset but went ahead and set one...Two days later I actually caught a rat. My Ford valve seats came loose and the car needed an engine overhaul. The AAA tow truck driver said to take it to A+ because they were AAA certified and cheaper than the dealer. A+ estimated cost for overhaul was 3 to $4,000. When it was done they said my bill was $4,900. I called AAA and complained. They investigated and said it seemed ok. WHAT DO YOU THINK? After a week of arguing A+ dropped it to $4,600. During the week after getting the car back the fuel cap warning light came on. A+ said replace the fuel cap, but that did not fix it. After 2 fuel caps and A+ working on it 3 times they finally fixed it. It was a small leak in a hose in the engine compartment. They agreed it could have been their fault so I was not charged. Summarize: A+ service is not that good and very expensive. Always get estimates from the dealer and other reputable mechanic. read more

My wife took in her jeep to be worked on here. The first time it needed the throttle control replaced so she took care of those repairs, no questions asked. Immediately upon picking up she noticed the car was still shuttering and not shifting smoothly. After another $100 diagnostic charge (despite being there only days earlier) we ended up with another bill for over $400 after they changed out the spark plugs and did a little routine maintenance (again, no questions, just went with their recommendation). After picking it up the second time she noticed a strange static sound coming from near the dash. A day later the check engine light came on. After taking it in to a local auto parts store to get the code checked a standard error came up that we had dealt with before. We decided to bring it in a third time in 7 days hoping they would check their previous work and turn off the check engine light so we could see if it was an error (this same code had come up 2 years ago and was the result of a loose gas cap - tightened the cap and no check engine light until now!). Despite my wife, and then me, explaining this to them and requesting they turn the light off so we could drive it a bit and see if it came up again they would not do us this courtesy - and said it would be yet ANOTHER $100 diagnostic fee if we wanted them to check the issue. This is after spending over $1,100 there this week. I understand trying to educate your clients as they kept trying to tell my wife the light "would just come right back on" but after 3 requests and the explanation of the previous time we dealt with this exact same code, it'd be nice if they just did this as it is what we were asking for. Will take our vehicles elsewhere going forward. read more

Turns out I hadn't actually made one (my mistake) but they were still able to look at my vehicle right away. Repairs were done before lunchtime. Typical car repair place if your a woman. They tell you your car needs a bunch of "urgent" stuff it doesn't really need. I'm not the typical woman - i actually KNOW my car. I had to bring my car here in a bind because it was unsafe to drive it to my mechanic. They tried REALLY hard to sell me on a bunch of other stuff that had nothing to do with what my car needed. Another thing that really bothered me about this place is that they placed "A+ Autocare" licence plate frames on my car without even asking. Took them right off and threw them away. Since we moved to RB from Ramona 7 years ago, I have been looking for a reliable, honest establishment to service our vehicles locally. I had tried several with no luck. Through Yelp and AAA I finally found A-Plus Autocare. I took my wife's car in for an oil change and service. The last place that I took it to called me in to show me a filthy air filter that they said they had just taken out of the vehicle. I knew better because I had checked the air filter myself just two weeks prior and there was no way it had gotten that dirty in two weeks. Nothing I could do. I couldn't prove it so I had to buy a new air filter from them. Next they told me the front brakes were bad and that they would need to do additional work because the pads were wearing at a bad angle. I said no thanks. So, without telling this story to David at A+, I asked him to have a good look at the brakes while they were servicing the car. Either he would find the same thing if it were true or hopefully he would be honest. I'm happy to say that David called and he told me right away that we still had 30% left on our brake pads all the way around and didn't need brake work done. That was honesty. So, he then told me the other things they found and we discussed what needed to be done now and what could wait a while. He was honest throughout the discussion so I had him do most of the recommended work right then. We picked up the car that evening and all was good with it and there were no surprises. Simply stated, they destroyed my car. My car ran perfectly fine, and when they attempted to fix an ongoing issue with one of my sensors, it was returned to me in worse shape. I took it in again to fix the new problem, my car jolting and shutting off, but the result was nil. They destroyed my car, and I had to purchase a new one. Oh, they offered to comp a rental for me and I later received a bill from Hertz. Poor service, and a dishonest business. read more
