I went earlier part of last year for a transmission fluid change in which I tip $50 for getting me in and out in a short time. I wanted to show my appreciation. There are quite a few people recommended this shop either know the owners and too have had work done here. I trusted the recommendation to have a solenoid valve replaced here called last week to get parts ordered and scheduled in bcos I live up north but work in San Diego. I filled out scheduling a visit that got no response. So I decided to give them a call as I've spoken to Monica and she is the one that does all paperwork and order parts. She said she'd get quotes and call me back. A few days went by no response, so I call again. I'm working on it, I'll call you back. Today is a new week and still no response. It's shocking when I tell people who recommended me, what I've began to go through and their responses were to contact the Dunns because that's not how they do business. I have yet to do that but I'm considering the suggestion. I can't seem to understand why Monica's behavior has changed this way towards helping that shop earn business. Btw I also left a voice message and still no response. I'd honestly like to know is it because my skin color don't fit or is there something I'm missing? I am continually impressed with the owner Manny, master mechanic Lloyd and the crew at Poway Transmission! I have been rebuilding a 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ for three years now, and have relied on this team to advise me and perform the hard work of making it run like new again. Well, with 218,000 miles (plus), my Jeep is running better than new and I love it! Best customer service and loyalty to customers!!! Recently, I had to repair my front drive shaft as it was freezing up (after 218K miles, it's inevitable). They gave me a repair quote which was reasonable, and went to work. When I received my Jeep back a few days later, there was a BRAND NEW drive shaft in place of my old one. Lloyd told me they couldn't repair the extensive damage, however since they quoted me an amount to repair the old one, they only charged me for the original repair cost. The new driveshaft was significantly more expensive, but Manny said that when he gives a quote, he stands by his word. AMAZING! It's gets better... I took the Jeep home and noticed a vibration at higher speeds, so I consulted with Manny and Lloyd about it. The took it back immediately and did a thorough investigation on everything including the new driveshaft. Not only did they replace the new driveshaft with a much more expensive one, but they charged me ZERO for the work! I didn't even need to sign a paper when they returned it to me. We own a '57 Chevy that started having problems with the 700r4 transmission. I'm familiar with the owners Karen & Eldon as my wife and I have been attending many of the cool car shows put on by them over the years. So it was a no brainer who to call for my free inspection. Needed to obtain another opinion on my Honda Pilot's transmission due my 3rd party warranty companies' refusal to replace my transmission until I experienced a hard failure. My vehicle had been at a Honda dealership for 5 weeks and had 3 inspectors from the warranty company out and I was certainly at my wits end on how to get the transmission replaced under warranty. Monica and LLoyd and their technicians worked with the inspectors/claims folks at the warranty company were able to prove that my transmission required replacement and were able to obtain approvals to replace my transmission under the warranty. It certainly was a feat, as this warranty company was extremely difficult to deal with and even shorted them on the approved work. Monica and LLoyd were very professional and helped us get my transmission replaced and provided excellent customer service. I would highly recommend Poway Transmissions to anyone. read more

I want to give Eldon and Karen kudos for helping me figure out the issue with my 1999 4runner. I brought in my vehicle to get a diagnostic for my P0753 code. I was ready for the worst since two other transmission shops told me that the trans was definitely the issue. When i called back to get a status, Eldon told me that the transmission is not the issue. I was relieved! Eldons diagnostic was definitely way more detailed than a previous shops. He also performed continuity checks on the solenoids and verified that they are working correctly. He told me that my issue was the harness. After all this Poway Transmission didnt charge me a dime. Although he didnt fix the problem, he help me narrow down the issue. Eldon and Karen recommended me to go to an electrical shop to get it fixed. They also prepared me for what the electrical shop will charge Karen told me if my harness checked good, bring it back to Poway Transmission and they will run diagnostics again. Long story short, i have a background in electronics. I found the issue in my harness and fixed it myself. 4runner runs great! This is how a shop should be run. My 2002 Chevy Suburban was leaking oil. I took the vehicle to 3 separate mechanics who provided repair estimates ranging from $900 to $1500. Poway Transmission found the problem. Horrible people, would not honor warranty and statements saying that they would allow their broken transmission to be repaired by a certified tech after driving out to Phoenix. Their customer service lady, the owner?, got so bad as to interrupt and then tell me to stop interrupting - to repeatedly hanging up the phone. It's bad enough a customer has to be persistent in simply trying to get help 350 miles away when their work doesn't hold up. No excuse for her behavior - as the shame in the voice of the gentleman who would answer the phone repeatedly showed. Would not keep point of contact with the person who had the car, made the owner's wife cry on the phone, very upsetting and despicable treatment: ultimately had to pay $750 and 15 hours driving to get the vehicle back to them -6 months after rebuilding the transmission. Vehicle was ready in 3 days, shuttered and surged, ended up selling it for scrap. These people have no conscience, honor, or appreciation if their bottom line on some (shotty) work is threatened. I wouldn't count on them for anything, let alone a tire change, as they will not own up to mistakes, honor their written warranty, or their phone statements - even if you're 100s of miles away. I don't enjoy writing poor reviews, but trying to make an appointment was a disappointment. I called and stated I had the transmission serviced several years ago (fluids) at their location. Described the vehicle and asked about an appointment sometime this week to change the transmission fluids. "Ooooh....next appointment is at least 2 1/2 to 3 weeks away." The person who answered was not rude, but a two - three week wait is a little too much. I found another location that will get me in within two days. read more

Poway Transmissions has been really good to us over the 18 years we have lived in Poway. Several of my visits have been for yearly (or bienniel - tho less than they recommed) fluid changes or pan leaks. However on 3 occasions they have done complete transmission rebuilds for us. The first rebuild was a direct exchange from a reputable supplier they had used many times. Unfortunately (or fortunately) that transmission failed within the warranty period. Poway Transmission went to bat on our behalf against the transmission supplier to cover the repeat labor and well as replacing the failed transmission, even though that was explicitly NOT on the warranty. Poway Transmission was dissatisfied with the supplier's response to their warranty requests and decided to simply rebuild the transmission themselves on their own dime and pursue legal action against that supplier. We did not have to wait for all that legal BS to take place. Instead, Poway Trans rebuilt and installed our transmission in less than 4 days. We were ecstatic that it didnt cost us anything and that EVERY PENNY was fully covered under warranty. That was over 10 years ago and even though we only put about 5-7K per year on that old van, it still works to this day!! The 3rd transmission rebuild was on our 2001 Chevy Venture van which now is more than 5 years out of warranty and STILL PULLING like a champ (despite my wife's lead foot. - sorry honey ;P I also know that several Auto Repair shops on Poway Road send their customers exclusively to Poway Transmissions and that says a lot about their reputation. Great experience with these guys. It is very difficult to find a good transmission shop and I am glad I found this place. My Acura MDX's Transmission went to its grave and had I Poway rebuild it. The price was steep like any all wheel drive transmission is, but it was lower than the dealership who will just have a factory refurb shipped in and installed. I wanted a full rebuild. Shortly after the rebuild I had a light come on and some fluid leakage. They handled the problem quickly- discovering one of the new rear seals had been pinched. The Manager got me a rental car for the day and took care of the problem. They also have a follow up appointment at the end of the repair warranty. Great honest customer service and quality. Super honest. Brought my sprinter in due to a bad leak after I unsuccessfully tried to fix the transmission myself. They took it for the day, found out I overfilled it and removed the excess.
