There are certain things you should never skimp on and I believe framing is one of those things for sure. A good quality frame can elevate a photograph or painting to new heights and Ideal has done exemplary work each time I've engaged them. The store is conveniently located on Austin Street in Forest Hills on a more quite section of the thruway's eastern end but the staff here always seem to be working away diligently whenever I stop in. The fine folks who work here are extremely helpful and will talk you out of spending more money if you ask for things that may be unnecessary. I brought a canvas print here which I was hoping to have framed with matting and glass but luckily the gentlemen advised against doing that and said all I needed to do was stretch the canvas, which looked way better when finished that what I had imagined; the texture in the canvas print played a big role in the art and it would have been lost behind glass so I was definitely given sound advice. If you do want get work framed, there are so many options to choose from and the quality is superb! I found a frame that went with a print I got extremely well and it looked superb when it was ready...expectations were definitely exceeded. I got the best passport photo here! The young lady taking the photos takes her time with you. The lighting is extra bright so it does make your skin tone lighter than normal. However, it is certainly better than the nearby Walgreens, where there are dark shadows in the picture. I definitely will return again for photos. I highly recommend this place. read more

Last month I took my kids to Continental photo (70-50 Austin street) to take Taiwan passport photo, but both pictures they took for us got rejected by Taiwan counselor. We tried to contact Continental photo to see if they can retake the pictures, they said they can't because they already closed the store permanently due to some family reasons. They charged us $68.69 for two kids (4 pictures each). Then we found Idea Framing yesterday and retook the pictures. The photographer was very patient and detail oriented, he took time to make sure pictures are well taken and photoshopped the pictures carefully to make sure the pictures are following Taiwan passport's rule. The most important thing is that the price we paid was only half of what we paid in Continental photo. We spent $37.02 for two kids (4 pictures each). Should have come here at first place. read more

I Googled passport photos in Forest Hills and Ideal Framing came up. I called to check out the pricing for the US passport photos (2 for $8.70). I walked over and when I arrived, the gentlemen were very nice. One took my photo and photoshopped my head to not be tilted and to look straight. He did an amazing job. He also asked what country the passport was for. He knew the "rules" for US passport photos (no smiling, no glasses, etc.). After five years of buying better quality pieces for hanging in a no-longer-so-new-home, it was high time for some custom framing. Previously owned wall art either came framed or got the cheap, standard frame treatment at home, so I was plagued by indecision as to where to go. Friends warned of high prices and advised Michael's during their periodic specials. But I always wanted to custom frame at a small business so after a year of having Ideal Framing bookmarked, I walked 11 pieces over for a consultation. Ideal is a small, cozy shop on Austin, bright with high ceilings. Kevin patiently went through my posters, prints, large hand-embroidered pictures, and a scratch map, offering numerous frame and matte options. His approach is quietly supportive, leaving plenty of room and no pressure to decide what to choose, and his experience was clear in our interactions, which was a tremendous relief for me, being less familiar with the process. Pricing for every option was discussed transparently, and I found overall cost to be very reasonable. Ideal has a wide range of cost based what is chosen. Two weeks to get everything framed, and all were returned carefully packaged. The framing was very competently done. Custom framing is not cheap, but it really shouldn't be. It isn't the route for throwaway posters or items not intended to be kept long-term, but for everything else, it is well worth the cost. Ideal is a terrific small business framing service, and I'll be back to frame again. read more

I had originally received a quote from Michaels at $120-200 for canvas wrapping and decided to do some more research at which time I found Ideal Framing. I dropped my painting off Friday night right before they closed and they had it ready by Sunday morning. They only charged me $45 for what Michael's had said would cost at minimum $120 and they did an excellent job. I would highly recommend this place for your framing needs. The store is a family run business in my neighborhood and I appreciate that. I had gotten some other diplomas framed at Michael's and wanted to try a local business this time around. My gripe with the business is more with the quality of materials used. Two years ago I had my husband's diplomas framed here and picking mats, frames and pricing were a similar experience to the Michael's-basic normal customer service and prices. Nothing negative to say there. Well two years later I finally decide it to take my frames down to clean them. I admit, I am no expert frame cleaner, I just stand up all my frames side by side, the cheap store brand ones, the custom ones from Michaels' and the two frames from Ideal. I was disappointed to see that when I picked them back up to hang the paint/enamel just flaked off of them. I didn't bang them or drop them, just did the same thing I did with all my other frames that are currently just fine. I guess I had hoped that after spending 275.00 I would have gotten a more durable product. I'm not expecting them to hold up like hardwood kitchen cabinets but my cheap store bought frames have held up much better. When I went back today to inquire about any solutions, they were unfortunately dismissive. I get it, it's not their fault if it gets damaged outside their store, but I did question them on the quality of their materials or if they could somehow patch it up and they just shrugged their shoulders. Not a great way to treat someone who spent money at their store. Oh they did try to help me by coloring in the chipping paint with a sharpie marker. read more
