Tucked away on John St. this A &W is fast and convenient. I like to come here if I'm on a budget and don't want to spend too much on food, I had coupons which is great. Come stop by here from time to time. Workers were quick and efficient. Washrooms clean. The food tasted good, it's fresh and satisfying for my taste buds. read more

A&W - Mama Burger Combo (fries not in pic but I did get it) - Fast Food Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Definitely like the smash burger. I don't really care for the sauce on it (reminds me of an off brand Big Mac sauce). I also added tomato and lettuce lol. The onion rings are real onions, not cooked very well as I would like. And the coating is thin and falls off all over. Probably wouldn't eat her again but would depend on what's around. Definitely would chance what I ate again though. read more

I got the cheddar bacon uncle burger with onion rings instead of fries. The burger was alright, i felt like the bacon was a bit undercooked. The onion ring portion was disappointing, and they were very salty. I've heard a lot about a&w and their fresh burgers. I would have to give it a 5/10. read more

My rating is 3.5 stars. I'm rounding down. It had been ages since I had last taken in a musical in Toronto's theatre district. I used to be a regular theatre person over a decade ago. I stopped going. I couldn't tell you why. Anyway, my routine when I had a show to attend at Princess of Wales Theatre was to grab a bite to eat at Hey Lucy's beforehand. Last month, I had dropped by Holy Choco for dessert items and had bubble tea in my system thanks to Sun Tea before arriving near the theatre. I needed a light snack. My original thought was to get a hot dog at the stand across from the theatre. When I got there, the stand had a sign that stated it only accepted cash. I rarely have cash on me. Bummer. Where can I go to get a quite bite to eat? I stared at this A&W across the street from this hot dog stand, on the southwest corner of King Street West and John Street. Perfect! I saw a sandwich board that had a deal for two sausage and egger sandwiches for $7.99. Doubly perfect! I had a competent woman take my order. I also got a diet root beer, which had a cheerful Blue Jays logo. I mean, I was within walking distance of where the team plays, so it made sense. She let me know that it would take ten minutes to complete my order. I paid with a debit card. Done! The wait was long. Many people were waiting with me. There were at least six people in the kitchen preparing food. This eatery was super busy. I got my drink first. It was cold and refreshing. The root beer flavour was excellent. I got my food fifteen minutes later. I thanked the woman and found a spot in the eatery to chow down. There is limited seating inside the place. There was lots of patio seating outside. It was humid and muggy that no one was there. My sausage and egger sandwiches were yummy. The English muffins were toasted and soft where they should be. The egg was fried. The sausage was yummy. The cheese melted nicely. Both sandwiches hit the spot. I felt satisfied. There are washrooms at this eatery. I didn't use them. Frankly, I didn't see anyone use them while I was here. For a cheap bite to eat, come here. The downside is that it's a wait to get fast food. (327) read more

I don't normally eat fast food. I am reviewing A & W at Queen West and Jameson in Toronto. I'm not sure if this is even food! We got take out. It was the soggiest hamburger mush I have ever tasted. We threw it out!!!!! Two hamburgers & two fries $30! $30 down the drain!! This has got to be a joke! Why do people still go here? There is no ambiance at all as it is a fast food, mainly take out restaurant. I can remember this Canadian restaurant opening in Winnipeg and the food was great way back then. Now decades later the franchises are being run by East Asians and the quality of the food has gone straight down the toilet. We will never go there again! read more

I was actually pretty excited to come here while I was staying in Toronto. We don't have A&W's where I live, so I haven't been to one in years. They also have Beyond burgers, so I was happy to try that. And they're open 24 hours, so I planned to go after I went to the concert I was in Toronto to see. The walk to A&W was a little scary at night. It was probably right around midnight, there were not many people around, and it was pretty poorly lit on my walk there. Once I got to the street with Starbucks and A&W, there was some more light. I was the only person in line when I went in, so I walked right up and ordered. I got a Beyond burger meal with a diet root beer and fries. Some people came in right after me, and my food was ready fast. When I went to go get condiments, they only had ketchup. I hate ketchup, and I had seen some pictures of people with other stuff on here, but I forgot to ask when I ordered. There were more people in line by this point, and I was exhausted, so I just walked back to my hotel with what I had. The diet root beer was absolutely awful. How does A&W mess up root beer?? It was watery and flavorless. The burger and the fries were fine. I'd possibly even say they were good. Honestly, I just don't like fries without something to dip them in. The Beyond burger was good. It wasn't the best thing I've ever eaten, but I'd get one again. With all the good reviews for this place, I expected better. The sitting areas seemed decent for a fast food place, and late night, but the food was mediocre. And if you want any condiment besides ketchup, be sure you ask when you order. read more

I remain baffled at A&W's success and popularity. To my mind (and palate), they're selling an inferior, overpriced product that falls short in every way that matters. But I do like to have an open mind, so when I was looking for a quick bite in the area, I figured I'd give it a shot. I should've just gotten a street-vendor hot dog. I just wanted a simple hamburger, so I decided to go with the Mama Burger ("A perfectly seasoned patty of 100% pure beef - raised without artificial hormones and steroids - topped with pickles, a slice of onion, ketchup, mustard and Teen® sauce, served on a freshly toasted sesame seed bun."). It was ready within minutes and one look told me all I needed to know. This is one sad-looking concoction. The thing was super flat and anemic in appearance, and the taste didn't exactly knock my socks off. Actually, the prevailing flavor here was mustard. I got the texture of the scant onions and pickles, kind of, but mostly this tasted like a mustard sandwich. And for something that took me less than a minute to eat, I wound up paying almost seven bucks. Seven dollars! Absurd. read more

This is my spot when I feel like having a "beyond meat burger". It comes with ketchup, mustard, onion. If you want to keep it vefan say no mayonnaise and no cheese. I got the Mozzo and finished it. I ate it too quick so I wasn't able to get a pic. Their infamous root beer was good along with the burger and fries. Burger was nothing special. My boyfriend got the sausage and egg in their breakfast menu, as they do serve breakfast all day. Food was decent. We just wanted something quick after going to the CN tower so stopped by here. I wouldn't say it was anything special . It hits the spot when hungry at 1 am . Decent burgers and good root beer.

A&W is a fast food institution and definitely a little bit above McDonalds and Burger King on the quality scale. I ended up stopping here last night while taking a break from the terribly ran Fan Expo Canada down the street. The place was pretty packed when I came in but once I saw the chubby chicken sandwich on the menu I knew I needed to order that with some French fries and some root beer. The staff was nice and the food came out super fast which was super good since I was in a hurry. I absolutely loved the French fries which I probably haven't had in 6 years and the chubby chicken sandwich was pretty awesome as well, very hot and fresh and super delicious (I sound like a moron, but you get the deal). I really enjoyed my quick meal at A&W and of course the root beer was top notch as well. If you need a quick lunch or just want a tasty one, come on in! read more

Stopped in after a musical, craving a sweet cream root beer shake. The person behind the register said they only have that with chocolate or strawberry, I don't want chocolate or strawberry, they dont have sweet cream (then why is it on the menu?) so I settled for a frozen root beer. They couldn't fill that order either. We had to wait for a refund and left empty handed. I don't think I was expecting too much, this was a disappointment. A&W, you need to do better! read more

I was looking forward to visiting A&W as it had been years since my last visit . What a shock to find the chain has gone downhill so badly and the food served to me that day was virtually inedible . Two Teen burger combos , total cost $ 30.00 . Fries were luke warm , one order was cold . We returned both to be replaced with fresh hot product . Burgers were absolutely horrible. Small Beef patty was overcooked , bacon was shrunken and hardly detectable . Asked for extra onion and pickle and was charged an extra $ 0.40 . Didn't receive the extras . While the Thorncliffe location wasn't too busy we still waited 15 minutes for food obviously precooked . We only exchanged the fries and didn't address the sad state of the burgers. The staff didn't really care at all that food served was substandard and were hoping we'd just leave and that would be the end of that . Obviously the help were inexperienced and had little grasp of customer service . It was also evident that kitchen help preparing food were pretty useless as well . Kicking myself for wasting time and good money for such a crap meal when I could've gone to Wendy's or McDonald's for far superior food . A&W total fail . read more

I have never been a fan of A&W until I came to this branch. I guess you could also say that I am a fan of "just" this branch. I first came here upon the whim of a coworker, who really worked up a craving for a teen burger. Luckily, we had a coupon for two teen burger combos, which by the way is something you should look into. A&W frequently has coupons on their site (I think there are several each month). Just remember to sign up for an account to gain access! This branch has the usual decor you would find at most other branches. However, the point that sets it above every other is the fact that this branch is well-maintained. The floors always seem to have been swept, the tables are always clear of leftover trays, and you just "feel" comfortable eating there. The dirtiness that I find at the other branches really irks me, but I've been very happy spending my lunch break at this particular branch as of late. Food-wise, it's a mixed case. The first time I had the teen burger, I was impressed with how cleanly the burger was made and how adequate the taste was for an item from a large fast food chain. However, when I came back for it during the $3.50 teen burger promo, the burger was sloppily made and oozed with too much sauce. Also, the Beyond Meat burger that many raved about is also an overly hyped product in my opinion. I used to be vegetarian for 8 years, and let me tell you this: regardless of what others have fed you about this burger, no, it doesn't taste like meat and it doesn't have an excellent texture and flavour for a veggie burger. Having had many veggie burgers during my 8 years as a vegetarian, I rank the Beyond Meat burger as one of the worst veggie burgers I have ever had. The price point is good when there's a coupon deal, but the soft texture of the patty and the bland taste doesn't justify the hype it's currently receiving. As for the other items on the menu, such as the chicken burgers, they are fine and will probably be the items I'll be reaching for most of the time. When I want cheap grub in a relatively clean setting, this is my go-to place. I will still probably avoid the other branches, but I can see myself staying loyal to this one for a while. read more

My best friend and I pass by this location almost every day on our way to work. We saw that is was opening soon and decided to grab breakfast here when it did. LOVED IT! The place is extremely clean and the staff is very friendly. We have been here a couple time since over the past few months and they made an effort to remember our names. We ordered and took a seat, and when it was ready, the lady on cash took the time to bring it to us. The food is unheard of for a fast-food chain. The eggs were real eggs (lol) and they were fresh. They butter your toast for you, and they do it perfectly! My best friend always raves about how much she loves the toast. The last time we went we had a coupon that we found on their site. It was 2 eggs, 3 slices of bacon, toast with butter, a hashbrown, and coffee all for 4.99! Definitely worth it. You are expected to sort your garbage and put the utensils in the bin, but unfortunately a lot of people don't. One time, it was extremely messy near the clean-up area where you throw away your stuff and the lady at cash (same one, she's awesome lol) actually apologized even though it wasn't her fault and told us if we wanted, we could just leave our trays and she would sort and clean it later. A+ for customer service. Will definitely return. Highly recommend for breakfast, especially if you have coupons!!! read more

Just came here since this was the only place open after 3am. I had the poutine and spicy chicken wrap. I've never been to an A&W before so I was hoping it was gonna be mind blowing for some reason lol. The poutine was okay. It was waaaaay too salty, though. The chicken wraps were okay, too. Not spicy at all. I mean you get your monies worth so I really can't complain. This is a good place to come when you're drunk and nothing else is open. Oh, my cashier was nice but the other cashier was rude and angry. I mean, I get it. It's late and you're dealing with drunks but I would think you would be a bit more wiser than to be bitchy with drunk people. They're just gonna throw the attitude right back. read more

Went here for a quick bite on our way to the CN Tower. It was our first time trying this fast food restaurant even though we've seen them in the states. The burger, fries and root beer were not bad; better than McDonald's but a bit pricey for the small portion. Well, seems like all the restaurants in downtown Toronto are relatively expensive. Wonder how the locals manage. The service is terrible. The cashier had a bad attitude when I asked about the different burgers. She rolled her eyes and just pointed up to the menu without responding. Mind you, it's my first time eating here. Then when I requested her to give me some of my change in coins to take the bus, she lied and said she didn't have any coins. 1 star for the food which is a very generous rating. read more

I was in a hurry to get somewhere but needed something to tie me over. Went to A&W for lunch today and everything was exceptional. The cashier lady (Tashie?) went out of her way to make sure we are well served. The root beer came with the -15 degree freezing cold mug that literally turned the foam of the root beer into fine delicious slushy. I usually do not drink cold drinks, especially in the winter AT ALL, but I kept going back to my hubby's root beer. The sweet potato fries and onions rings came in reusable containers and were crisp and delicious. The wrappers of our burgers came in compostable package. The burgers were beautifully done. The seating area and the restrooms were clean and brightly lid. It was such a welcoming experience. Thank you. read more

I love going here before visiting the Shrink nearby lots of good food and unlimited root beer dirt cheap

I'm usually a fan of A&W's buddy burger however, my visit today was a little on the underwhelming side. I tried the Poutine which tasted very similar to KFC's poutine, the portion was very small and came in a tiny box with a small drink the total came to $7.19 - not worth it in my opinion. The fries were good, the gravy was tasty (very similar to KFC's gravy) and there were chunks of cheese. Overall it was just OKAY, the price of it all together with the size of the poutine made it underwhelming. I will return but I probably will pass on the poutine. read more
