The one good thing, I was greeting almost right away when I got to the drive thru. Now the not so good: order was for a teen burger combo and a chubby chicken burger. Maybe A&W philosophy is different than others but I thought food was supposed to be hot and the soda was supposed to be cold. When I went to eat it, both burgers were almost ice cold (after a 5 minute drive home) and the soda was warm because there was no ice. This was what I got to enjoy after waiting almost 10 minutes in a "fast food" drive thru. You'd think after waiting so long, the food would be hot because they are preparing it fresh. And it was overpriced, teen combo and a small chubby chicken was $19.43!!! It was also the smallest burger I've ever had. read more

It has been over a decade since I've lived in Coquitlam, but I have the fondest memories of this A&W location as a child. Stopping here before or after a shopping trip at Superstore next door was a special treat. They have a wide range of burgers ranging from the bare basics to the totally overloaded, all branded with different family member positions. They used to serve burgers wrapped in foil, although this has been replaced with compostable wrappers in modern times. The old style decor provides a nice touch, and gives you a feeling of what it might have felt like to enjoy their food in the old days, long before I was born. Having salt and pepper shakers on each table is a nice touch also, giving the establishment and old-fashioned diner vibe. read more

I have to stop being so critical of quick service restaurants. This A&W is really nice. Recently updated, clean, nice layout and choice of seating. The music is soft and easy. Staff are friendly and order is accurate. They have table service which is classy for a $5.08 breakfast. They are trying hard to conform to what 'the people' want. Fresh, quality ingredients, real plates plus flatware and compostable straws. They seem to be doing everything right! FYI this location seems to be favourited by seniors for coffee. we decided to visit this location around 7pm on a Sunday. we order 2 root beers, yet when we came to the window we asked the young lady if she had put straws in our bag, she quickly said yes so we drove off, when we checked there was only one straw!? (She was also the one who handed us our drinks!) I also happened to order a mama burger with NO cheese but they still put cheese anyways. Please do not visit this location for the service is better elsewhere. read more

OK, after living in BC for a zillion years and having moved to California for another zillion years, I still can not distinguish between Loughheed Hwy that runs through Coquitlam vs the one that runs through Port Coquitlam. Now is it 7, or is it 7A or is it 7B? Who the hell put a toll bridge at the bottom of this hill. Was I suppose to be on Brunette or was it Barnet? It's no wonder I haven't seen the cousins in this part of BC...thank god for A&W Restaurants to offer some kind of landmark....so I pulled into the nearest one to regroup and reorient. OK, I had a burger...not sure if it is the "Teen" burger I use to have when I was a teen during my Testiclesiatic Stage of life. The buns, the mustard, the smell of the wrapper sure brought back some memories, when Burnaby South and McPherson still existed as separate schools in Burnaby (you young'ins can wiki that one). Ended up at this A&W after grocery shopping nearby. Order three meals including a kids meal for my son and found the cleanest of the dirty tables. All the food was cold and the root beer was flat. They forgot my sons milk and fries so got up to request this. Waited 10 mins to get someone's attention before this was rectified. One of the young staff was addressing a customers complaint about her pop being flat. As she walked past me, I had pointed out the root beer was flat too. She turned and with attitude stated the root beer is meant to be flat because they now use cane sugar... and walked off. After absorbing this rudely addressed nonsense, I informed her cane sugar does not impact carbonation and we had ordered diet root beer which has no sugar. She then apologized in a sarcastic tone whilst rolling her eyes at me. I reported this to the young supervisor who was equally disinterested which was not surprising as they all sounded like they were running a staff social party behind the counter instead of running a restaurant. Whoever runs this franchise clearly has no interest or visibility into how the kids 'working' here are harming its business. read more

I have been to this location on and off for the last decade. Prior to the renovation the service was much better. I would pop in for a quick meal after grocery shopping or while on the go running some errands. Recently, I went through the drive through and was very clear about my dairy allergy!! I requested "no cheese" After waiting about 15 minutes in the drive through. ..They assured me it was correct upon leaving. I didn't bother to double check and trusted them because it was a big order for five people. Once we got home to eat we realized mine had cheese!!!!!!!! I couldn't even eat it. I drove all the way back and I didn't even get a sincere apology or compensation. They remade it - it was cold and when I got home everyone else had already eaten. So much for a quick family dinner together. read more

I generally really like A&W Onion Rings as I find them to be the best among fast food restaurants but this location consistently screws them up. They either give their deep fryers zero time to recover or they run their deep fryers too low, presumably to save money because the last 3 times, the onion rings have been soggy with the batter flaking off like crazy. This is not typical in other locations. Sorry guys, if your fryers aren't hot enough, all the food does is soak up grease and there's no chance of producing anything that has any crisp or crunch. Wow what has happened to a&w . 7$ for a burger and then another 5$ to add fries and a drink. Spent 25$ only to get 3 tiny burgers (only 1 was a buddy burger ) that looked like they were slapped together in a food fight and 2 yam fries that came in hash brown holder sized bags. A&w is a rip off and this location has staff who seem snotty or just don't give a s$@& about your food. P.s I am not one to right a bad review about something unless I am really ticked off. I came into the restaurant around 8pm and placed my order. The restaurant was not busy, no people ahead or behind me. The fries were so stale and cold that i didn't eat them. The root beer was flat, and warm. My burger did not have cheese, even though I ordered and paid extra for it. I usually really enjoy A&W, but will definitely pass on this location. read more

Since the renovation the place has been a mess. One time I waited at drive thru for more then 20 mins on a Wednesday night around 9pm. Also messed up orders on a few separate occasions. The restaurant is always dirty with trays and garbage everywhere. Food is not made fresh, which makes a huge difference in A&W food. Burger always warm, stale buns, stale fries and soggy onion rings. I've talked to different managers but it doesn't matter due to its high turnover. It's hard to find an A&W that's bad, yet, this location proves me wrong every time. Never again. read more

This has GOT to be the worst A&W on the planet. They just did some exterior renos so you can easily tell when this was written. It is not uncommon to wait 20 min at the drive through or have the teller they don't have change for your 50$ bill (on a 20 dollar order) i do like supporting local, local entrepreneurs (not the same in this case) and locally sourced- its kind of amazing that they can get as close as they do. My partner and I have been regulars at this place for months before the renovating this summer. The service has always been impeccable, food was fast and fresh. And then. The renovation happened. Unfortunately, everything else went through a face lift too. Drive thru is at least 10 min wait. Tonight, I watched a lady stand at the counter waiting for someone to take her order while the two idiots behind the counter ran around like headless chickens. We waited more than 5 min for food and fries were "hot". But were they fresh? HELL NO. SOFT, STALE AND FLACCID. If I'm gonna wait that long for food, I expect my fries to be HOT. My partner's burger was leaking sauce, disgusting. But I drew the line when we got home and my burger had onions. I asked for no onions. What if I was allergic, hmm?? We will never return to this dump. Bring back the old staff. Those guys knew what they were doing. In the meantime, Wendy's on the other side of the block will now have our business. read more

Great location, friendly staff and delicious breakfast. I always come for the breakfast, as i think a&w offers a great deal for $7. Lots of parking, since it shares the lot with superstore and lots of seating inside. The free wifi is a hit or miss, but it's not important since you're there for the food. read more

Service at window today at noon was more than a little lacking in professional. Man on TV needs to apologize for misrepresenting themselves. In covid-19 time's a little courtesy goes a long way. I dropped the atm machine in my haste and then the lady says: Really? Insinuating tine was an accusation I dropped it on purpose. Then sprays machine and me with sanitizer. When I told her she sprayed me she says: It's only sanitizer. Not: I'm sorry. Maybe if I was not a person of color, she might have apologized instead of blaming me. I have to wonder! Dine in isn't as busy as I would think, though the drive through always has a car or two. Service is great, friendly staff and the place itself is kept very proper. Food is as good as fast food gets.
