While visiting the town of Berthoud for my son's football game, we happen to go to A&W on the way out of town and had a great experience. The place is not real big and authentically vintage, but the staff are super friendly and attentive and do a good job keeping the place clean and getting customers served . Our order came out quickly and accurately and was delicious and the best part was getting fresh made A&W root beer in a cold frosty mug . We enjoyed it so much that on a recent trip to Rocky Mountain National Park we made plans to stop here again on our wayback It was another busy Saturday and once again the staff were rock stars ! The subtle thing that I noticed on this trip was the food comes out looking just like the pictures on the menu. Seems like a simple concept, but many fast food restaurants underdeliver in this area. It's worth going a little bit out of your way to stop at this A&W and take a step back in time and have a great meal.

Today I had the original taste of an old classic burger joint- Glad we came inside and from the looks of it, the whole town knows where to eat- lol (full lot) I was starved and choose the first thing that looked good - Patty melt (wbacon/cheese)combo and a classic Root-beer When my frosted mug w/Root-beer arrived, my first drink of the sweet soda taste like they made it in the back- lol My food arrived tasty and fresh - It was gone within minutes- The only con was not bringing anything for later - lol vb

A delightful step back in time! Today we had the pork tenderloin and cod basket with root beer. Absolutely fresh and delicious! The servers are all so polite. And the bathrooms are the cleanest of any fast food establishment I have ever been in. We're passing through but have decided this is a must stop anytime we're in the area. Two thumbs up from us!

For me the drive in burger experience has always been A & W and luckily I have been fortunate enough to live in a place that had more than one of them within a driving distance. They have been a staple and my favorite root beer since I was a child and it was always a treat to go to one for a burger. Compared to the other fast food chains, there is something special about being able to get a simple burger with very little hassle that is ordered and brought to my car on a tray. This particular location has always had a pretty polite and friendly staff that is patient while you order and easily able to satisfy special requests for toppings. The prices have obviously gone up as the times are changing, but they are still somewhat low compared to the quality and service at the other chains and the portions you get make it pretty worth its cost. The fries are usually overflowing and the burger patties themselves don't look like scraps. Overall I would say that A&W is still my goto place for a basic flavorful burger with that classic drive in experience. The rootbeer and floats are amazing, the cheese curds are huge and the burgers are consistently good.

an american icon that i have not seen this century. a drive up a&w . . . where u can park and order food from your car and the girl delivers it to you. now she was not wearing roller skates but she did have a 4 cylinder change dispenser on her belt. and rather than wait in the long line inside, i sat at a table outside, ordered my food on a speaker, and had my frosty mug of a&w root beer, crispy bacon cheese burger, and fries delivered to my table. life is good.

If you don't like A&W, you're not a real American. Their floats take me back to childhood. Nothing else is as good.

Great floats and shakes and above average fast food. I love the older atmosphere!

GPS gets you close, but it's easy to drive right past. Parking is only two driveway spots plus street parking (there might be a small lot across the street) so plan accordingly if it's busy. Service was genuinely warm and welcoming the moment I walked in, which immediately put me in a good mood. I ordered red chilaquiles with asada, a bowl of menudo, two tacos al pastor, a Mexican Coke, and a Sprite. * Red chilaquiles (Two eggs, fried tortilla chips lathered in red chili, asada(additional cost) side of beans, side of salad; lettuce, tomatoe, avocado): They forgot the asada at first, but fixed it fast and brought the steak on the side--no attitude. The bigger issue was texture--the chips were soggy instead of the usual toasty/crunchy. The sauce started off tasty but got surprisingly bland halfway through; it just didn't have enough depth to keep every bite interesting. * Menudo: Under-seasoned and missing that rich, comforting flavor I love. The bolillo came toasted with butter, which felt totally out of place with the menudo (personal taste, but it didn't work for me). * Tacos al pastor: Hands-down the highlight. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and everything I want in a street-style taco. Overall, not a bad experience, just inconsistent. The tacos alone are worth coming back for, and the friendly vibe is a big plus. I'd skip the chilaquiles and menudo next time, but I'll definitely return to try more of the "finger food" side of the menu. Solid neighborhood spot with real potential--hope they tighten up the classics!

He retired again and sold the business about 7 or 8 years ago and I believe it has been through a few ownerships by now. It is not what it was in so many ways but it is still an OK dog and hits the spot when the craving occurs. Customer service and value are a bit lackluster though the new owner has a newer, bigger wagon with more of a kitchen and menu. Also, the busy, crazy holiday event on Pearl is probably not a fair time to truly evaluate his potential, so I will try again soon. The wagon was unoccupied when we arrived, with no sign to customers about a return time and neither of the booth operators on either side had a clue where he went or when he would be back. I understand a solo operator needs to leave occasionally but a posted note would have been nice. We waited awhile and then wandered the event some and went back about 20 minutes later and he was serving. He was out of the grilled beer brat my husband had wanted, had a very busy lunch crowd apparently and he was understocked. We both ordered hot dogs with toppings which were quite fresh and tasty but the toppings were very skimpy. The buns still have the poppy seed top. Now, I do have to say, he is still offering dogs for $3, I think about what Eddie was selling at a decade ago. But food costs go up, so if you plan to use Eddie's reputation for a well endowed dog, price accordingly so there is some substance to it. Maybe he normally does but was running out on the holiday, I am not sure, but it is not the same as Eddie! Please consider raising the price a bit to reflect the real cost of space on Pearl and plentiful servings. I am sure you will still have lots of customers. No one can replace Eddie's dynamic personality but the food should not be hard to duplicate.
