We waited almost an hour after our appointment time, but it all made sense when we got to see the doctor. Dr. B patiently sat with my grandmother for around 2 and a half hours. She asked her a ton of questions about her hearing issues, current hearing aids, and general activity. She is also the only doctor that has ever spoken loudly and clearly enough for my grandmother to understand. She tested my grandmother's hearing in a soundproof booth, and explained in great detail what her issues are and what could be done about them. I should mention that my grandmother is also legally blind (which throws off a lot of medical professionals), but Dr. B taught her how to use her hearing aids by feel, which was amazing! My grandmother got new hearing aids, as well as a tester pair to use for a week while they were being built. We had some personal issues in the interim, so it took a while for us to pick up the new hearing aids, but Dr. B's office was super kind and flexible! We also got to try them for a few weeks at home before we had to pay for them, which we were able to do over the phone. Fair warning that the office is in the basement of an apartment building which is NOT handicap accessible. There is a ramp to get into the building, but there are two or three small steps to get to the office. The office itself is also small, but my grandmother's wheelchair just barely fit in. My grandmother's hearing is much better, and we are very happy with Forest Hills Audiology!

I thought it might be allergies since my hearing was just slightly impacted. I made an appointment, and I was happy her office was in my neighborhood. When I arrived, I was the only one waiting. The receptionist was very sweet and professional. The waiting area and bathroom were very clean. The wait to see the Dr was very short. Dr. Z was very kind and explained what she saw after reviewing my ear history. To my dismay, my left ear was filled with wax, ugh. My right ear was fine. The Dr. recommended an ear cleansing that wasn't covered by my insurance. I paid the fee after googling to check out the rates for the cleaning, and it was correct, lol. Baby. that ear cleansing felt amazing. I wanted the right ear cleaned, but the Dr didn't recommend it. Lol. It truly felt like a spa service for my ear. The Dr. showed me all the wax that came out. My left ear really felt clean and clear. Thankfully, I passed my hearing exam with no issues. As we get older, we really have to be thankful for everything that works well physically and mentally. I would definitely return to meet with Dr. Z regarding any auditory issues.

But today's experience with my mom seeing Winnie was amazing! We arrived early and were taken in early. Winnie embraced my mom like an old friend. My mom consistently saw Winnie prior to the pandemic and switched to a care provider a little closer to home. After some discussion I convinced her to go back to where she was most comfortable. My mom explained some of the reasons she's been struggling with her hearing aids and I shared some of my own observations. First she was given a hearing test and a pair to try on. After more discussion and an analysis of her current hearing, my mom decided to get fitted for a new custom pair. Winnie explained everything and then cleaned her ears before doing the new molds. The level of care, patience, expertise, and warmth was not a surprise given how my mother raves about her prior visits. It was a great experience for my mom and put my mind at ease that she was doing the right thing. My experience at HearUSA was an absolute nightmare. My 93 year old mother needed her hearing aid…read morerepaired (she only used one though she was deaf in both ears) and it was dropped off at the Forest Hills location for an agreed upon price of $350 for the repair. A week later I called to find out the status and was informed that because a previous employee had not entered the proper serial number when it wa last brought in for repair, the manufacturer would not accept the hearing aid for repair. After much pleading, the doctor agreed to ask permission from her supervisor, which she received. In the meantime my mother' health declined precipitously and she was placed in hospice.. Her confusion was exasperated by her inability to hear or communicate. I called HearUSA again to find out the status and was told the doctor would return my call, which she didn't. I called a few days later and the doctor told me that she had the repaired hearing aid but that she was not allowed to release it to me because of the mix-up with the serial number. I begged and pleaded and sobbed and explained that my mother was dying and could not hear her loved ones voices in her last days. She was sympathetic but said her hands were tied. My mother died on Friday and if I had the emotional energy I would sue the company for their inhumane treatment. They should be rum out of business.
