Room desk she is a sweetheart and a nurse in the ER. Room as well, We got there around 9 a.m. We left the E.R. at 2:50 p.m. I feel like did an eight-hour shift in the E.R. The X-ray nurse technician said it takes about two hours for the X-ray sample to come back to see if she had a broken bone, They gave my aunt some pills and took her blood for testing, and there put a patch on her back to sore the pain, after we left the hospital around 2:30 p.m. I dropped off my aunt at the bus stop to go home I continued on my way home to my doctor's appointment yesterday at 4:30 p.m. to my doctor office, Their E.R. is no different than Kings County Hospital or Downstate or Kingsbrook, Brookdale, Maimonides, Woodhul, Cumberland diagnostics / Hospital center's. I like the fact there are Electronic Computer devices that face visual Language barriers for their patients who do not acknowledge the English Language I witness: French/Creole, Yiddish-Hebrew, Chinese-Mandrian, etc languages .spoken with nurses and patients language barriers Electronic computer devices in the E.R., I wouldn't mind coming back to Mount Sinai Brooklyn Hospital !!!! No one looks out for a parent the way their family does, and the fact that these incidents occurred with me present speaks volumes. ​Lack of Basic Patient Safety: The nurses on this floor operated without common sense or proper safety protocols. They expected an 88-year-old woman with severe balance issues to get up and walk around unsupported, completely disregarding basic safety and patient dignity. ​Inappropriate Treatment During Procedures: While I briefly stepped away, my mother was treated poorly during a blood draw, experiencing repeated punctures and ignored pain. Fortunately, a visitor in the room intervened and instructed staff to stop. The staff's reaction was unprofessional. When I returned, it was clear that this type of treatment would not be tolerated. ​Inefficient Discharge and Insurance Procedures: Upon discharge, a nurse named Madina attempted to delay her release for another 24 hours due to uncompleted discharge paperwork. The priority seemed focused on administrative delays rather than patient health, and proper action was only taken after I threatened to contact Patient Relations. ​Lack of Standard Discharge Protocols: In comparison to other major hospitals where discharge includes a proper handoff, safe removal of IVs, and a wheelchair for a dignified exit, our experience here lacked basic class and training. I had to physically demand a wheelchair to ensure she could leave safely. ​Poor Facility Conditions: The physical condition of the floor matches the poor standards of the staff. There was visible filth, garbage overflowing from bags into the open, and neglected bathrooms that appeared not to have been cleaned properly in a long time. ​Bright Spots: Despite these severe issues, I want to highlight a few individuals who stood out: Nurse Justin showed genuine compassion and is a credit to the field. Arena, Sonia, and Nelly were also decent. However, other staff members were unprofessional, and I intend to follow up with Patient Relations regarding their names. ​Conclusion: Maimonides management currently lacks adequate control and standards on this floor. To resolve poor communication and coordination, leadership must hold mandatory team meetings to set clear expectations, define roles, and establish daily check-ins. I do not want any other family to go through this experience. Until leadership cleans up this floor and holds staff accountable, I would advise others to keep their family members away from the 10th Avenue 5th-floor facility.

I've been here (ER) twice with my husband. Both times, the experience with security left me in…read moretears. As a side note, this will read like I'm fresh off the incidents, but they were so egregious that this is weeks later from the most recent visit and I'm still upset. The first time I ran in ahead of my husband asking for a wheelchair bc he couldn't walk any further and was just outside of the hospital entrance vomiting. The security team, all of them, stared at me blankly until one said, "well, why would you leave him all by himself?" and they all just continued to sit unresponsive. I assumed someone would offer a wheelchair so I could go back out to get him. No. Not even the triage team was concerned enough to acknowledge me even though he ended up being admitted for emergency surgery. I understand they see a lot of crazy things, but I'm standing there saying IDK what to do my husband can't walk he's right outside and blank stares is just not what I expected. I ended up going back outside and practically dragged him in. Honestly, maybe I am mistaken, but If I called 911 for an ambulance, wouldn't they get him in to thehospital? But if I'm actually at the hospital, at the front door, they can't give me a wheelchair? The second time, I rushed him to the ER and was not asked to provide ID when we first went back. This will be important in a moment but first, I exited the ER to go back to triage after no one had come to us after an hour even though we were expedited through triage and come to find out that they were actually looking for us but no one knew where he had been placed. All the while he was in agony (and again needed emergency surgery). Now, back to the ID issue. I tried to walk back into the ER after getting that info from the triage nurse and security stopped me for not having a pass. I do love that, security is very important and often overlooked (as it was when I was let back an hour before without a pass). I was told to get a pass which I happily went to do. But when I was asked for my ID I told them that I just came from the ER with my husband and that my purse with ID was back with him. I was then told I could not be permitted in. The triage nurse who was helping me previously stepped in to let security know that I was just back there and he could confirm my husband was in fact in the ER and that he checked him in. The security officer told me that that was not his problem and that he wasn't getting into trouble over me. I was so shocked and the nurse, made a "you're on your own/yikes" face backed away. I was VERY polite as one must be when dealing with an unreasonable person holding the power and asked how I could get back to my husband without my ID, like being escorted back to my husband. Surely people arrive to the EMERGENCY room without with IDs all the time. I was not just told no, but I was scolded for not carrying it with me and then lectured on how I am not supposed to go anywhere without my ID. (Really?) This went one for an comfortable amount of time while I'm silently nodding in agreement and holding back tears just wanting to get back to my husband who was suffering all alone. When he finished I said, okay, what do you reccommend I do? and the tears just started falling. This man says to me "AND NOW YOU'RE LAUGHING? This isn't funny. This is serious. I'm not getting into trouble over you!" Then he let me in without ever even asking my name or the person I was visiting (doesn't that defeat the purpose of the pass? He can't even follow up). But how can a person, so unable to tell the difference between laughter and a sobbing woman even function in life let alone hold a position of power? There were several other issues, including not one of my four phone calls (over 4 days) being returned because I had a question about one of the medications prescribed after his first surgery, but I will let this review be focused on the security team which will prevent us from returning to this location.

The facility felt dated -- the hospital is 95 years old, with black-and-white pictures from the previous century adorning the hallways. However, most of the staff were great, including the security guards, the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) staff, and our social worker. We were lucky that the hospital had a social worker who spoke Chinese (Cantonese). She was instrumental in helping our relative move forward to the next stage of care. One minor issue was that there were belongings from previous patients in the room lockers. We ended up with our relative's and some of someone else's stuff when my relative was discharged from the hospital. That said, the hospital does label belongings -- staff gave us a plastic box labeled with our relative's information when we brought in a pair of dentures. Other: - The hospital has complimentary Wi-Fi, but it is not VPN-friendly. - Street parking only. Tip: - Consider adding an Apple AirTag or similar device to your elderly relative's Everyday Carry (EDC), which might help you find them if they go missing.
