This place runs like a piece of well-oiled machinery! I was having an issue and started off by doing a virtual urgent care appointment. Urgent Care directed me to the ER, because my symptoms were "life-threatening". (*Uuuuugggghhh*) Fine. So I head up the block to NYU Langone. The front desk crew ask for a quick summary of what's up with me. I blurt out my issues. They slap a bracelet on my wrist, hand me some papers and tell me to sit down. Okey dokey. Five minutes later, I'm called by a nurse into Triage. In Triage, I give a longer version of what's up with me, at the moment. They offer me a bed to sit on, and hook me up with "Ms. Joy"; a beautiful Jamaican woman who was the sweetest lady you could ever come across. She gave me an EKG that took about 0.3 seconds, she took my vitals, and then I was led in the back to the ER. I had a seat on a new bed. By this time, I had only been in the building for a maximum of 15 minutes, total. My assigned nurse was waiting for me to confirm all my information. When she finished up, a team of three young doctors shuffled over to me to collect my information, symptoms and history. They left to place their orders for me, I stayed seated and waited it out. About ten minutes later, a phlebotomist stopped by to pull a few vials of blood from me. About 20 minutes later, my phone starts blowing up with notifications; My results are in from the blood they just took from me, and they're posted in the MyChart app! So, I start checking out my results and as any good hypochondriac would do, I start Dr. Googling them. (Spoiler alert: I'm going to live) Next, a lovely young lady scoots a wheelchair over to my bed and asks me to have a seat, as she's planning on driving me over to radiology to X-Ray my chest cavity. Easy Peasy - a total of 10 minutes, tops. When I'm wheeled back to my bed, my assigned nurse rolls a sonogram machine over to me and lets me know what's going on, next. Beep, Bop, Boop - Easy Peasy, yet again. At this time, I'm clockin' in at about two hours. I've had extensive lab work done, radiology work done, and sonography work done. I've had contact with nurses, doctors, CNA's, phlebotomists and sonographer. That's some fluidity! One of the doctors comes by to let me know that my tests were good, I'm good, I'm built like a cockroach and you can't kill me - I'll live forever. She excuses herself to get my discharge papers ready, another nurse stops by to remove the tourniquet from my arm, and that was that; I was ready to roll. I've been dealt a crummy 'Health Card' - I've spent A LOT of time in Emergency Rooms and Hospitals. The care I received at NYU Langone within those two hours would have taken approximately 6 hours in another hospital, EASY. I *dread* going to ER's because I despise the waiting! They made the waiting so minimal, and so easy to endure - It wasn't that bad! I really liked how they handled everything. Handling my care, ordering my tests, scooting me to radiology and back, the sonographer's professionalism; It was all immaculate. Wonderful experience. Top notch.

Accompanied a relative to this hospital for a procedure. Dropping off at the entrance was a bit confusing due to the street construction at the front of the entrance but there were people and signage there to show you the way. Garage parking is located across the hospital entrance. Valet service was required for visitors parking at the garage; all day only for $8.50. Once inside, going thru checking-in and prepping was fast and easy. Visitors were given a numbered reference card to check on patients from a televised status board. They also send patients updates via texts so visitors can go anywhere freely. Office staff, aids, nurses and doctors were all very friendly, professional and accommodating. Overall a very relaxing atmosphere and pleasant experience for the patient. Definitely a better location choice for Brooklynites than going to the Manhattan hospital site.

Staff not wearing masks to curb the spread of the new Covid variant
Johnny W.

This is for those who are here for labor and delivery, as well as private room stay after the birth of your child. Please keep in mind that your friends and family will not be able to effectively celebrate this amazing milestone with you, for the staff here implemented a rule to limit only two visitors allowed. Despite my wife giving birth to my child, me being their father actually counts as one of the visitors, which in essence means you're only allowed to bring ONE visitor. Since my wife is obviously bed bound after giving birth, only I was able to bring our visitor up to our room, which is located on the labor and delivery floor with various sections and can be extremely confusing to people who has never been here and people who don't speak great English. The hospital and staff claims that the two visitors rule is to prevent the spread of Covid, which would be understandable if the staff actually took preventative measures to curb the spread of Covid. As you can see in the pictures, the checkin staff and the security guards all do not wear a mask when interacting with potentially vulnerable people seeking sensitive care at NYU Langone...as a result, our friends and family had to take turns going in one at a time, which prevented families and couples from sharing in this amazing new experience together with their loved ones... I really thought NYU Langone stood for excellence and optimizing patient care and enhancing the quality of life of its patients, but this experience had shown me how rigid, insensitive, and lack of empathy the staff are. They don't care about protecting patients from Covid, nor do they care about keeping families together; if their policy dictates it, their staff would relentlessly and cruelly split families apart.. Below are pictures showing just how contradictory their rules are and how their own staff don't even care to protect the vulnerable.

The arrival point for the Covid-19 vaccination. Today was Pfizer dose 1.
Ken P.

The vaccinations for the Covid-19 pandemic are becoming more and more available in locations around the country. This week, I was informed that past medical history allowed me to receive the vaccine and I was able to get this shot at the nearby NYU Langone facility. This used to be called Lutheran Medical Center but its changed over the last few years. I arranged the appointment via their app in MyChart and it was seamless in terms of obtaining the appointment and heading to the location. On arrival, I was stopped by the desk who took my temperature and told me where to proceed. The service desk has a number of kiosks for patients to check in and after a five minute wait I was sitting in a small queue to be vaccinated. After answering a few questions from the facilitator of the vaccine, I was given the shot and a card that shows me as having it done and reminding me when to return for the second dose. They had the Pfizer vaccine and while many reported sore arms I can say that I felt no pain or even any after effects later on in the day. Everyone is different. After the shot they advise you wait fifteen to twenty minutes and since there was Wifi I didn't mind this at all. I found the whole process to be quick, easy and stress free. An important aspect during this very precarious time when everyone is on edge. It's been said that any vaccine you can get is better than no vaccine so if you can secure an appointment anywhere get that done. I didn't mind needing to come back for an additional shot in three weeks. I'd rather be healthy and closer to returning to some kind of normal life. Please be aware that masks are required to enter the facility but I guess you assumed that already. Keep safe out there.

What I like is how you were helped from the door. Security was on point and helpful ( little man with a big energy). From the people coming and going I see it's a busy place. I've been here years ago for a procedure but was back because my grandson was being born here. Bathroom was clean lol. I'll visit again if I need to.

I became a patient in the Advanced Maternal Fetal Medicine department after my pregnancy became complicated, and every doctor I met with exerted an impressive level of care, patience, and compassion as we navigated a very frightening and emotional experience. Our baby was ultimately delivered early but totally healthy- and all staff in the labor & delivery unit and mother / baby unit were also wonderful. We now have follow-up appointments regularly with pediatric speech and OT. Not only are the therapists extremely kind and wonderful to work with, they are helpful with scheduling appointments, insurance navigation, and referrals. The quality of human beings working at NYP is exceptional, and I only hope they are granted the compensation, the support, and a work environment that allows them to continue doing excellent work for their patients and community.

I understand that emergency rooms can get busy and that patients are seen based on how serious their condition is, so I came prepared to wait. However, there is a difference between a reasonable ER wait and spending practically the entire day in the hospital with very little communication about what is happening. I arrived in the morning and went through multiple tests, including an ultrasound. I was eventually told that the ultrasound showed two decent-sized fibroids. After the testing was completed and results were available, I continued sitting there for HOURS waiting for someone to come speak to me about my results and what the next steps were. The most frustrating part was the lack of communication. If there is a delay, simply COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR PATIENTS. Tell us, "The doctor is backed up," "We are waiting for another result," or "You should be seen within approximately this amount of time." Instead, I was left sitting there uncomfortable, hungry, frustrated, and wondering what exactly I was still waiting for. At one point, I was told they didn't even have discharge information for me yet. How am I sitting here for hours after testing and still unable to get a clear explanation of my results or whether I am being discharged? I came here because I was in PAIN and concerned about my health. Patients should not have to repeatedly ask staff what is going on just to receive basic information about their own care. I was also extremely hungry after being there for so long. I was eventually given a sandwich, which I appreciated, but after spending practically the whole day there, the entire experience was exhausting. I was physically uncomfortable from sitting/lying there for so many hours on top of already being in pain. I want to be clear that my biggest complaint is not simply that I had to wait. I understand that this is an emergency room and emergencies happen. My problem is the LENGTH of the wait combined with the poor communication. When someone has been in the hospital since the morning, has completed their testing, and their results are available, someone should be updating that patient instead of leaving them sitting there wondering what is happening. If your department is overwhelmed or understaffed, I understand that individual nurses and doctors can only do so much. But the hospital needs a better system for keeping patients informed. A simple update can make a huge difference, especially when someone is already scared, in pain, hungry, and exhausted. I came here looking for medical care and answers. Instead, a large part of my day was spent waiting without knowing what I was waiting for. This experience reminded me exactly why I normally avoid coming to this hospital. I hope management takes complaints like this seriously because patients deserve timely communication, compassion, and basic updates about their care--even when the emergency room is busy.

I knew if I asked miss Ross for anything, it was coming. Dr Michelle was fantastic. Funny, sweet, and knowledgeable. Took time explaining everything to me and answering my 1 million questions But the real star of this visit was Sergio, who was doing x-rays. I was in too much pain to really pay attention but I think he used to run the ortho clinic and now he does x-rays? Like he used to be a surgeon maybe? I was in crisis ok I don't have GREAT recall. Either way he kept me cracking up, loved trading jokes with him, love how comfortable he made the process of x-raying a broken ankle, and I'm trying to see if I can move my orthopedic appointment to Kings County because of him. I wish he could be my doctor, my dentist, my therapist, my uncle, my wedding officiant, etc. such a sweet and super smart guy. About two years ago I had an emergency and revisited. I was terrified of what to expect. Let me tell you, THINGS HAVE CHANGED! FOR THE BETTER! MUCH BETTER! From reception to attendants, security, technicians, office staff, and medical team, they ALL care for me so well! Special mention MUST BE MADE of E. Mantel. That lady goes above and beyond ALWAYS! Words cannot express my appreciation for the entire team at Orthopedics. On another note I used to run from needles. I used to be deathly afraid of them. Now, now having my blood taken by the lab at KCH and getting vaccinated is all a breeze. A BREEZE I TELL YOU! I look forward to the needles because the Nurses are professional and I don't feel a thing! One time when I was sick and frustrated (you know how it goes when you're under the weather and grumpy), the Nurse treated me so lovingly I felt as if I was in my mummy's arms. I started to cry. Tears of release and gratitude for the care I received. I'll continue to share about my experiences here because they need to be recognized for their outstanding service to our community. I've been lucky to have been clued into sites that have a turnaround time of just 2 days so I haven't waited too long but I know of many folks who have waited as long as 14 days for theirs. I took a rapid PCR test here at this Crown Heights site and got my results back in a mere 2 hours. Everything about this process, from booking my appointment to entering the site, to getting my results back via online portal were incredibly straightforward and efficient, and I'd recommend anyone visit nyc.gov's rapid testing site page to find your nearest location if you need to get tested. 1218 Prospect Place is also the address for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene but has now set up a special covid testing site. Once you're in the building you're asked to write your name and time of visit on a sheet of paper, and then you're walked over to a small room where they'll ask for your information, and some general questions like if you have any symptoms and if you've traveled internationally in the last week. I didn't love being in a small unventilated room with other people but they moved people in and out of that room relatively quickly. I was then walked into the room where I got tested, and I was swabbed and out of that room in just a couple of minutes. The process of getting tested at Bellevue Hospital was somewhat less nerve wracking since the hospital lobby where you wait in line is expansive with soaring high ceilings (we're talking 50-70 feet high) and the test itself takes place in an outdoor tent. Still the lines at Bellevue can be long and while getting tested there is usually about a 1 hour process, getting tested at this Crown Heights site was actually in total only a 15 minute process. It's also amazing that they can return results in hours because they're a small center and they have their own lab. I was emailed about my (negative!) results and I checked them via an online portal. The interaction felt dismissive and lacked the compassion one expects when bringing an elderly, medically complex patient to an emergency department. The physical environment made matters worse. The waiting/triage area was crowded, difficult to navigate with a larger wheelchair, outdated, and visibly unclean. The bathrooms were particularly concerning and lacked basic supplies. Thankfully, our experience changed dramatically once my mother reached the back treatment area. We encountered clinicians who were engaged, compassionate, attentive, and seemed genuinely invested in her care. I am grateful to them. Brookdale desperately needs to reevaluate the front-end emergency department experience--particularly arrival, triage, cleanliness, accessibility, communication, and compassionate care.
