Many many years ago I visited this hospital and left so angry, frustrated and sad. Reception made me feel like I was something under their shoe they needed to get rid of it. About two years ago I had an emergency and revisited. I was terrified of what to expect. Let me tell you, THINGS HAVE CHANGED! FOR THE BETTER! MUCH BETTER! Everything including wait time, was like chalk and cheese! So different. I've been attending this hospital somewhat regularly as this is also now my primary care clinic. Dr. S. Nainan my PCP is a wonderful Doctor. Even if it's via a zoom call, my concerns are immediately addressed. I feel heard. I feel respected. I am properly cared for. From reception to attendants, security, technicians, office staff, and medical team, they ALL care for me so well! Special mention MUST BE MADE of E. Mantel. That lady goes above and beyond ALWAYS! Words cannot express my appreciation for the entire team at Orthopedics. On another note I used to run from needles. I used to be deathly afraid of them. Now, now having my blood taken by the lab at KCH and getting vaccinated is all a breeze. A BREEZE I TELL YOU! I look forward to the needles because the Nurses are professional and I don't feel a thing! One time when I was sick and frustrated (you know how it goes when you're under the weather and grumpy), the Nurse treated me so lovingly I felt as if I was in my mummy's arms. I started to cry. Tears of release and gratitude for the care I received. I'll continue to share about my experiences here because they need to be recognized for their outstanding service to our community. An important thing to consider is this is also (for want of a better phrase) a "One Stop Shop". Whether it's an emergency, or blood work, medication, finance, MRI, x-rays, scan-all types, gynecology, Dexa scan, dental anything to do with your health and to avoid you having to trek all over the city just to complete a visit is available here. I have to say although everything takes a lot of time in emergency, they give thorough care when it's your turn. Definitely had to explain the problem a million times but they eventually got the picture. So honestly 3/5 for the actual care. The 5/5 is for 2 things ... The absolutely STELLAR Caribbean (island) women holding this entire emergency room together! They are the hardest working people in the whole wing. The men i saw, wandering around hands in pockets, and the European (couldn't place the accent) nurses (x3) , absolutely clueless! But the Island Nurses y'all ladies deserve a raise for carrying the weight. I spend 12 hours in the emergency room so i can say this is an accurate assessment without a doubt. I went here on a Friday night, obviously the worst time to go, and I was there for 15 hours. But it wasn't that bad. Yes of course because it was a Friday night there were a couple crazy screaming people who were given sedation at some point so everyone got some peace. Miss Ross is wonderful, very professional and thorough. She has a pretty straight forward personality, not into chit chat, but she gets the job done! I knew if I asked miss Ross for anything, it was coming. Dr Michelle was fantastic. Funny, sweet, and knowledgeable. Took time explaining everything to me and answering my 1 million questions But the real star of this visit was Sergio, who was doing x-rays. I was in too much pain to really pay attention but I think he used to run the ortho clinic and now he does x-rays? Like he used to be a surgeon maybe? I was in crisis ok I don't have GREAT recall. Either way he kept me cracking up, loved trading jokes with him, love how comfortable he made the process of x-raying a broken ankle, and I'm trying to see if I can move my orthopedic appointment to Kings County because of him. I wish he could be my doctor, my dentist, my therapist, my uncle, my wedding officiant, etc. such a sweet and super smart guy. Changed the name but the service is still the same. If you find yourself here. You are in hell. This is the bad place. I have had to bring my family members here many times and each time is worst than the first. The quality of care is not there. You are better off watching a YouTube video and fixing the issue depending on the severity of the problem. Native New Yorkers call this hospital K*ller County. My child saw Dr Nicole Boykin, I was displeased with her reaction when I offered background information about my child. The fact that she didn't listen to ME the parent but someone else who didn't have the knowledge and insight needed for understanding my concerns. Dr Boykin missed the experience train. She gave me some crap explanation about my daughter's behavior/diagnosis. Now a whole year after seeing Dr N Boykin, I find out, I was right to be concerned about my daughter's developmental disability. This is after seeing a Developmental Disability Specialist, who has over 18 years experience . Dr Boykin wasn't the only Dr that worked on the evaluation. However, she was the only Dr that Discredited me as a parent. read more

Dr. Joseph Gorga (A complete asshole) No compassion whatsoever. I will never forget how I was spoken to while my mother was dying at this hospital. He dresses like he is about to perform surgery. And you would think he would have the decency under the circumstances to have some empathy but there was none. This definitely says a lot about his character as a person. Unless you experience losing a loved one you will never know how that feels. I just pray that he is not the one you will have to speak to in regards to your loved ones care. read more

The psychiatrist Dr Francois in the waiting for admission area had Tabitha tindale a nurse give me a shot for no reason. I was finally expresing my pain by crying loudly and saying I'm in pain and no one wants to help me. Instead of giving me Motrin rt away he had them give me a shot of psychiatric medicine. This is unacceptable. This psychiatrist and the nurses license should be suspended. And for 3 yrs I was asking quietly for Motrin and no one gave. (I had to clean by myself most of the time because everyone was incompetent.) me they gave me Tylenol instead a few times which didn't help. Why is it so hard to get a simple med like motrin. P s. I asked the cleaning man to clean my room appropriately and he ignored me. I told the staff they did nothing at miamonedes the nurse brought her own cleaning supplies and cleaned. That's horrible that employees get away with not doing their job and they just keep getting paid. So why should they do a good job. I did not belong in any hospital at all. It is totally the most horrible experience this engineer said he got his teeth knocked out in a mental health hospital. My pinched nerve I had to diagnose myself and buy myself B12 and complex true well and park nursing home refused to let me take it because one Dr to 300 patients so u can't even get his permission. Which u shouldn't need anyways for supplements but the staff loose or steal it anyways. Just torture in these places they feed u rotten moldy old food. I don't belong in a all private hospital or nursing home for get a government one. Sooooo I went back against my better judgment. Pediatrics has to be better I say. Oh was I so wrong. Grown men sleeping again with NO MASK ON IN THE PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY ROOM!! One man was literally farting out loud. First we register, then we go into triage. Sign on the sink says SINK BROKEN SINCE 11/7/2022. It's 7 days later and the sink hasn't been fixed. Sooooooo how is the staff nurses washing their hand. How inconvenient is that to them. So no beds, we wait just a few minutes. NOBODY SANITIZED THE ROOM, SHE JUST THREW A BED IN THERE. Empty water bottles on the floor, open packets on the table. Why are you still using curtains??? The BATHROOM WAS GROSS ASF. I was there maybe 5 hours and I didn't see not one housekeeper. The nurse was not nice or attentive to be a "pediatric nurse". FIRST TIME IN PEDIATRIC, LAST TIME..The doctors were wonderful and thorough. I usually do not write reviews, but I must praise Kings County's ED Team and security for the professional service my daughter received. The facility is clean, even the bathroom! The visit was about 4 hours, but I must say when she was called into triage the care was smooth and thorough. The security team was on point. One man got disruptive he was escorted out so fast that few even noticed the interaction. The Secuity Team were in clean uniform and conducted themselves in a professional manner, we felt safe! An officer (sister) even helped calling patients to the triage area to expediate the process. Another sister advised people to move up so they could hear their name being called. This hospital is run by a gaggling band of incompetent nitwits. I'm genuinely shocked they didn't botch my treatments while I was in their care, leaving me six feet under. Every time one of the nurses touched my IV I was convinced they were going to accidentally mainline an air bubble filled syringe into my arm, sending me into cardiac arrest. The only thing that kept me going during my time here was spite. I'd be damned if I let myself die at an F grade county hospital in Flatbush. I spent 4 days in intensive care at this hospital following a major accident. I had to use my call button multiple times to get the nurses attention, and many times I was left unattended for hours in severe pain. The food was inedible. The nurses were rude. My visitors were harassed by the argumentative buffoons working the front desk. Scheduled appointments for X-rays and doctors were hours late. Upon leaving the hospital I waited 2 hours for a wheelchair, which I was told would take 10 minutes. I'm convinced that none of these quacks have any real credentials and instead took their classes on a Hasbro brand Leapfrog learning laptop. The staffs lack of compassion is laughable. Asha, one of the employees in the billing department came into my room during my recovery. I was in incredible pain, and still unable to walk at the time. She came up to me, looked at my broken arm and said, "Are you left or right handed?" to which I responded "left handed". She then immediately handed me a pen and said "Oh good, so you can sign this financial paperwork." Outrageous. Greedy. Despicable. I was never seen as a patient at this hospital, just a sucker they could take for a ride, and milk for cash. The American healthcare system is broken, and based on the feeble slapdash attempt the "orthopedic surgeon" made setting my cast, my arm probably still is too. Do not go here. This hospital is called 'killer county' for a reason. The doctors and nurses are incompetent, rude, and unsympathetic. They make a lot of careless medical errors and cover it up. If you report the doctors and/or nurses to patient relations they (doctors & nurses) will retaliate. Make no mistake about it, patient relations are on their side. They're all friends here. I was initially very apprehensive about going in due to potential risk and cost but Wow, I had an amazing experience here in this blessed Covid tent. I showed up at 11:51am not knowing their lunch hour started at noon(there is a sign on front of tent and online too). I told them I was happy to come back but they graciously let me in and one other lady after me as well. Didn't Need to show Insurance Card. Or Pay! It was a totally FREE!! Antibodies blood test and Covid Nasal Swab. All the angels involved were very professional, informative, caring and efficient. My results came back very quickly as well. The antibodies (neg) was same day and covid was 3 days (not detected). I am grateful to be alive and for all those that put their lives on the line for others to have a chance to be themselves, another day. i'm only giving it 3 because the emergency room was okay. some of the staff there are very nice. some are rude. like the asian nurse who took my stitches out. she was rushing through the process, until i had to call her out for being too rough. the amount of pain i felt was unnecessary. after calling her out, she finally decided to take her time, cause she knew i wasn't playing. the covid testing site is so disorganized. how is it this disorganized when yall have been testing people since early 2020. this one nurse came out and told us ''anyone with a procedure can come to the front of the line''. when we all get to front of the line, (after waiting 20 minutes), a guard comes out and tells us that the procedure has to be at this particular hospital. why didn't the nurse freaking say that from the beginning?? i swear they make it as inconvenient as possible to try and sway people into getting vaccinated instead. when i finally get inside, one of the women, who was bald headed with badly bleached hair, was so disgusting and rude for no reason. pics are blurry cause i was walking. although shes the only bald headed one in there so it will be easy to spot her. avoid her if you can. read more

I've read some of the reviews on here. While I do think that everyone's POV is valid I would also like us to consider that Kings County Hospital is first and foremost, an emergency trauma center. If you are in immediate danger of losing your life, this trauma center is in the year of 2023 a very safe bet. I happen to be someone who has a dad who has been on the brink of death multiple times and so I really appreciate Kings County Hospital. He is currently admitted and this is the third time they have saved his life. His doctor has been stern but explanatory and kind to the family concerning his condition. The staff had been patient and extremely caring with him. Additionally, the hospital is extremely clean and has up-to-date technology. I gave four stars and not five because it's very hard to get someone on the phone. I suspect that is because they're saving lives but still it's very unnerving when you cannot physically be in the hospital. Other than that I'm very grateful that this hospital functions the way it does. read more

I probably nearly died in that hospital had I not got up n left to go get treated somewhere else. There were no doctors, nurses were nasty, and after 2 hours there was a gas leak. The smell was foul n patients heard begging for assistance. All complaints fell on deaf ears. I knew it was time to bail! Nurses and doctors are horrible over there. It was Christmas, and these people were being paid 3 times their usual pay, and did nothing. Only milked the tax payer. Fake nurses, fake doctors, fake hospital! I was having an asthmatic attack an clearly you could have seen that. The admission nurse was more interested in me pulling up my mask than me actually getting help. Isat on the floor to try and catch my breath to be told I can't sit on the floor.keep in mind that they are supposed to triage asmatics. They give me a wheel chair to wheel me to the seating area to have me wait (still wheezing)I just got angry and left to walk across to downstate. The security called me back and currently I'm sitting in the asthma bay with no medication or treatment.....I could have die at home it would be better. On the upside some of the other nurses and the security were helpful.this asthma bay used to be the best needs to get in to caring for patients. read more

I'm a 3rd year medical student completing my psych rotation at Kings County Hospital, abs so far I have nothing but good things to say about the place. I'm working in inpatient psych, which I can affirm takes quite a toll on the individual, especially on the mental strain of it all. I've realized it certainly takes a special person to be doing inpatient work. That being said, the doctors and nurses here are excellent. They are very well knowledgeable and care for their patients extensively. The patients are never lacking for anything (even if they don't quite realize it), and that's a wonderful thing to see. The staff all seem to be upbeat and positive - which always helps. Overall, I'm very pleased with this rotation and highly recommend! read more

I came here last week at 8pm to the ER and it took 3 hours just to be Triaged, and another half hour to be registered and this was only because I kept pestering one of the nurses who was at the clerk desk. She ended up being the one to Triage me. I ended up leaving at 11:45pm without seeing a doctor, because the staff told me it would be another 4-6 hour wait before I would actually be seen by the attending doctor. There was only 1 nurse working the Adult ER section so I understood why everything was moving slowly, but the front desks seemed clearly disorganized. Not to mention that the triage rooms were a mess. I had a very high fever and have been on and off sick the past few months. Due to connections I have here at the hospital, I chose to visit their ER to get tested, but was sadly disappointed with the level of service and overall experience. I wasn't even able to sit because the waiting area was full of people who were NOT patients, but visitors. I think that's completely unacceptable as there is a main lobby area with a more appropriate waiting area. It's one thing for people to be impatient and unwilling to be sympathetic of the situation at hand, but short staffed or not, waiting 8 hours just to be seen by the doctor is quite unrealistic, all the while patients arrive already not feeling well. I don't like nor enjoy leaving bad reviews for establishments, especially for a hospital. However this is not my first experience with Kings County, and I must say, this last experience has me driving a little further out of my way to visit a different hospital. This hospital has potential, but I don't see it improving for many many years to come. read more

I've called this place several times to refill my prescriptions and the nurses were acting as IF I was bothering them. One lady caught an attitude with me simply by asking her simple questions. Not only this but I had an emergency visit because I passed out and the nurse who dealt with me this time RUSHED AN IV inside of me and she also screamed out my personal health information very loud to me. I received better care than I was expecting -- The reviews I saw kind of scared me a bit, but my experience wasn't too bad. I was there for 3.5-4 hours but overall it wasn't terrible. The Triage staff wasn't great and they weren't very clear, but the Triage nurse was sweet and so was the PA that treated me. Come here if you don't have insurance and have nowhere else to go. If you have insurance, go to SUNY across the street or wherever else. When I came here, all of the staff just assumed the reason I was there was that I didn't have insurance- like why else would I be there? That said, the doctor who saw me in the ER was sweet, gentle, and attentive to more than just the obvious physical issues I had. She's great. The downside is that I was lying in a stretcher in the hallway being bashed into by other stretchers passing by and worried about unstable psych patients wandering around yelling threats and police coming through to make arrests... for literally hours before I was seen by any medical staff. For follow ups, good luck. You're supposed to just be able to find your way around the maze with no building maps and no clear procedure of how you're meant to check in for your appointment, and some places don't even do appointments. This place is an organizational nightmare. Plan on being here for 7 hours for each follow up visit. The staff are all so exhausted and overworked that they generally just say everything is going to be fine and please go home. Every follow up I had, they said, if it continues, we'll have to send you to the ER for surgery. And I'd come back 3 days later with no improvement and they'd say the same and I'd ask, what about that surgery? And they'd say, maybe next time. They sent me to building D for an ultrasound, and the guy there said, we have an opening in 2 months. Even though I had an order from the doctor for one that day! Another patient came with me from building d to e at the same time and she returned to follow up two hours before I did! No idea how they plan things here. Also, if you have to get blood work here, here is the way to do it: arrive to building E at 8am and go straight to the lab on the ground floor, and then go to wherever you're supposed to be and bring a book for the inevitable 2-3 hour wait for the results to come in. If you're any later than 8am, you could be waiting an hour just to give blood! The office on the sixth floor has two different sets of opening hours posted but neither are binding. I ended up needing emergency life saving surgery because they had neglected to just do what they had been saying they would do. This time, I went across the street to SUNY, where the intake that took 3 hours at KC took only 10 minutes, and where I was granted a bed in a curtained off area rather than a precarious spot in a hallway. My best friend went to cpep KHC cause she was feeling suicidal and homicidal and the doctors let her go, later on that day she tried to take her own life but jumping in front of the train. Thank God she had no injuries and the train man stopped in time but this all could have been avoided. read more

Very poor service. Very dirty toilet room. Not respectful attitude to the elderly. At night there are terrible screams and cries for help ... Not Who Does not respond from the duty doctors, so it's impossible to sleep at all. My elderly neighbor who walks with difficulty, fell to the floor in the toilet, a nurse came to her in 20 minutes. 20 minutes, grandmother lay on the cold floor in the toilet. And belittled about the help. I could not help her because I'm disabled. The food is strange. The menu is made up by a nutritionist who is clearly afraid that patients will gain weight (unsalted porridge from vegetables and beans). TV is very expensive $ 5.45 a day! To clean teeth for 3 weeks asked to give toothpaste. The social worker is strange, refused to help me when I asked her to see my social worker. To inform my doctor that I was hospitalized. And I need conditions for the disabled. As in this hospital #KingsCountyHospitalCenter there are no conditions for disabled people. read more

The main entrance also has a waiting are, and the 2 receptionist are very badly trained either one is to slow or the other one has a attitude. The person that was at the receptionist desk look like if he just woke up, beans and a stripe t shirt. There are really two experiences that you can have at KCHC Awful and Excellent. I know that really doesn't make sense but let me explain. My husband works there and it is very close to home so I have taken my kids there for doctors appts in the clinics and have also experienced their emergency room. As far as the clinics go, well the patience of Job would be exacerbated by the mindless unorganization of the clinics. On any typical appt day I (on average) will spend 3 hours just waiting to be seen. The doctor that I go to is excellent, but the wait to see her is mind boggling. The KCHC ER- is a level 1 trauma center, the only one in Brooklyn to be precise. What does that mean? They are EXCELLENT for TRAUMA (ie: gun shot wounds, car accident victims, heart attacks, etc) The problem is if you do not have a gun shot wound you are going to wait an eternity to be seen. Typically the visit takes about 5 hours - that is an average. My 5 year old has asthma and I have been in the emergency room with him for as long as 12 hours without them admitting him or discharging him from the ER. They are thorough, sometimes I think a little too much. The doctors will refer you to everything under the sky. You may not know exactly what I mean but trust me if you go you will have the pleasure of finding out. The main reason why I cannot be totally negative in my review of KCHC is because the doctors are excellent. It may take way too long to be seen by a doctor but once you get to one, you will be in good hands. This hospital saved my now 18 month old child's life at 6 weeks he had a high fever and I was concerned. If it was not for an eagle-eyed doctor noticing the signs of late onset GBS Meningitis my son would have died. Thankfully, they gave him a lumbar puncture which showed positive for GBS Meningitis as well as Sepsis and he was treated immediately. If we had waited even hours for the test my son would not be here today. So you see at the end of the day KCHC has been around for so many years because they know how to handle trauma. i am not surprised kings county hospital have a such low rating. i would never go to that hospital or any other city hospital, it does not make any sense, it takes 5 to 6 hours just to see a doctor and then another 12 to 16 hours to get a bed on a floor. the stuff is very rude and lazy, and hospital police acting as if they are gods . do not go to kings county hospital, or queens hospital or Elmhurst hospital or Belview or any other city hospital, those mother*f will make your hospital visit unpleasant , instead go to a private hospital that you will really like and will remember as a gods gift read more

If I could give this hospital negative stars I would. I have been in the ER since 9am it is now 6pm. Came with an painful abscess that needs to be drained but how and where the Doctors choose to do so is dependent upon my CT results. Due to the possibility of going to the Operating Room (OR) I am not allowed to eat. I have been waiting over 5 hours to do a simple CT. I work in radiology at a well known hospital, and understand the full procedure and steps of doing the CAT scan. I had different doctors come in and press on the same painful abscess for hours over and over. It is now 6 pm and I am still waiting with no prevail. I now have a fever, an abscess can be life threatening if the infection gets bad and turns into sepsis. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT COME TO THIS ER IF YOU ARE IN NEED. Please, learn from my mistake. If you find yourself in an ambulance with an EMT asking you which hospital to go to, under no circumstances say "King's County". Say no to this place like your life depends on it. My particular horror story happened on a Saturday morning when I began feeling a crippling, agonizing and debilitating pain in my abdomen, getting worse and worse. Unable to move and barely able to stay conscious, I called 911 and an ambulance took me to the nearest hospital -- King's County. I was wheeled into the ER on a gurney, crying and screaming in agony. After several minutes, someone asked for my insurance card. Thinking that I was about to die, I cried and used profanity to plead for help. She said she didn't like my language and simply walked away. I lay there, crying in agony and fearful that I was on death's door. I thrashed on my gurney, pleading for help. A full HOUR went by as I cried and pleaded for help, while the staff all around completely ignored me. I listened through my pain as they gossiped, engaged in long discussions about what they would have for lunch, and as they answered phones from people in distress and then joked about how "stupid" the callers were. After an hour a doctor happened to walk by. I reached out for him, pleading for help. He took one look at me and shouted at the staff that I should be a priority patient. I lay in the lobby for another 20 minutes, feet away from the open door in the middle of winter. Finally I was wheeled into the hospital by a staff member who slammed my gurney into each and every door and wall, furthering the worst agony I had ever experienced. He ignored me, stopping to have a casual chat with another staffer about the upcoming Super Bowl. He then wheeled me into the middle of a busy hallway in the ER, locked the wheels of the gurney, and left me there. For the next half hour, countless people bumped into me as my cries for help went unanswered. After vomiting several times, the pain became so unbearable that I lost consciousness. I woke up to a woman asking for my insurance again. I begged her for help, and she just walked away. 30 minutes later a friendly doctor (the only positive part of this experience) briefly examined me in the hallway (where privacy was nonexistent) and said they needed to run tests. After an endless wait, a horrendously mean nurse withdrew 5 vials of blood from my arm (I was later told this was a mistake and they only needed 2, so the others were disposed of). She hooked me up to an IV, left a bunch of literal garbage (wrappers and packaging from needles, etc) on top of me, and left. For 2 hours, no one would acknowledge my presence as I cried in pain. My questions went unanswered. It had been hours since I had anything to drink or gone to the bathroom, and with an empty IV bag connected to my arm, I was literally trapped on the bed, unable to move. I asked everyone who walked past (or rather, everyone who bumped into me) but I was ignored. Occasionally, a nurse or staff member would walk by and treat me with about as much respect as they would give a stray animal. The staff here have no business dealing with patients, let alone other human beings. Interacting with them was undoubtedly the single most dehumanizing experience of my entire life. After hours of this agony, of being ignored, of being literally denied the ability the use the bathroom or access to water, I told a staff member that I was on the verge of calling the police to report that I was being held captive against my will and tortured. This got their attention. The doctor came back, surprised that no one had spoken to me, surprised that I had been tied to this bed for so long, and very surprised that the nurse dumped her garbage on top of my lap. She ordered more tests and unhooked my IV. I waited 17 minutes to use the only available bathroom, peed into a cup, and held onto the urine for another 30 minutes until someone took it. After another endless wait, she came back to say she thought I had a kidney stone and suggesting I get a CT scan. Well I finally got that scan, but they didn't bother to walk me back to my bed so I got lost, wandering the sprawling hospital halls... After a full day of being abused, abandoned, restrained, ignored, and borderline tortured, I wad diagnosed with a kidney stone, given a prescription to pick up from a pharmacy that had already closed, and sent on my way. Look, no ER is a fun place, and I understand that this one is working under exceptionally difficult circumstances out of their control. But there is simply no justification for what I experienced. I once visited a hospital in an impoverished, rural community in China, and the people there were treated with infinitely more respect and dignity. King's County ER resembles a hospital from a post-apocalyptic zombie movie. But in a world without zombies, there is simply no excuse. Shame on them. Shame! You've been warned. read more

I came here for an emergency and waited 5 hours to see a doctor (only 1 hour to be triaged). The only reason I'm giving a star is because the doctor who I saw was incredibly helpful and kind. He spent a good amount of time with me and treated me like an individual. It was the day before New Years Eve, and the hospital was incredibly understaffed. The bathrooms were not clean, and one of them didn't have running water to wash your hands. There were a lot of people waiting, and a few drunks who got thrown out by police people because of open containers. When I came back another day to see a specialist, I had to wait 2 hours, the doctor spent 3 minutes with me, and made me find a pharmacy that could provide a compound that also accepted my insurance. Unacceptable to the entire medical profession. I will never come back here unless I have to. read more
