My partner and I were looking for a good mechanic and luckily we found A & E automotive and the pleasure of meeting Mike (the mechanic). I must say, the experience was outstanding. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the knowledgeable and friendly staff. Mike took the time to listen to our concerns and provided expert advice on the necessary repairs. I've been coming to him for everything ever since because he's fair and honest which is hard to find. Thank you for your excellent job repairing the Lexus and the Honda in a reasonable amount of time, and also for your great service in helping with our situation. read more

We have always have our Ford Explorer (20 years old) serviced here. They are the experts on them. We had a mysterious (and dangerous) issue where the engine would randomly just cut out. Once it happened on the freeway! They weren't sure they found the fix, but apparently they did because that was 3 years ago and it hasn't happened since. Really excellent place. They don't just work on Ford's, but that happens to be what we have. read more

I'm glad I found this place. I hate taking my car to the dealer for service, especially when paying those high prices. I brought my wife's 2020 Ford Explorer for throttle body and fuel injection cleaning service. Upon getting the car back, my wife's Explorer drives smoother and accelerates better than ever! Thanks, A & E. I will be back to bring my Ford Fusion for service! read more

Although I moved from CA about 22 years ago, I wanted to add my comments on A&E Automotive. Ron took very good care of me and my T-Bird. I have several experiences to share. At one time my car had to be towed to a dealer for a covered repair. The tow truck driver started to hook the car up by the front. Ron said, "No. It needs to be towed from the rear." The tow truck driver said, "I always tow from the front." And Ron said, "And I repair the transmissions. Tow it from the rear." Then Ron asked if I was comfortable riding with the tow truck driver. I was hesitant. Ron drove me to work. Another time, knowing that I drove alone to Mammoth about every other weekend, he asked if I had a cell phone to call for help if needed. I did not. He suggested that I get one. I would not have to sign up with a cell phone company, just keep the phone charged, and if I had a problem on the drive, I could just dial 911 for help. Later, when he knew I was moving, driving cross country, he gave me all of his contact info in case I had a car problem and didn't feel comfortable with what I was being told. I could call him and he would sort it out with that mechanic. What more could you possibly ask? There aren't enough stars to rate Ron and A&E Automotive. read more

If you own a Ford, this is the place to go to! They know everything about them, especially those old classic cars! I brought my 66 Mustang here to get my engine tuned up, Ron and Mike not only helped me adjust the carburetor and timing, they also helped me fix the oil leak and some other small issues. They are very fast and their work is very high quality. They even marked every single bolt they have tighten. It's those details that I really appreciate. My car now runs super smooth and with more power than ever! read more

A & E Automotive - Auto Repair Near Me - Pasadena, California

Very reliable and honest! My whole family have been going here for years and never had a issue with their work. One of the best!

Wow, I cannot say enough good things about A&E and owner Mike. Windshield washer fluid wasn't working in my 200k miles Tundra. Was referred to A&E by his neighbor Rob at Foothill Transmission Service (another great mechanic!). Mike diagnosed rodent damage upon arrival for appointment and then decided to fix while I waited, avoiding for me the logistical headache of getting home and back. Super smart, personable guy. Fair price. Highly recommended! read more

My 92 Mustang GT would not pass smog. I made an appointment, and when I arrived, I was taken in by Mike. Mike was great, and he fixed my problem quickly. I took my Mustang to get it smogged, and it passed with flying colors. This was my first visit, and just talking to Mike I knew he was a knowledgeable technician. Being a former mechanic for 20 years, I was at ease leaving my car with him. They have a new customer. Thank you, A&E read more

Took my car hear a couple of weeks ago to have the AC fixed and they didn't try to sale me a new compressor right from the start instead they wanted to make sure it wasn't a leak so we did some test and it turned out it wa the compressor after all. I appreciated the fact that they wanted to make sure that was the problem instead of just making me purchase a new one from the start. read more

Mike was very helpful and friendly. I have a mustang and will be taking it back there very soon!

Just took my 2012 Dodger Challenger here after a referral from a family member and I am extremely happy I did. They performed a complete 100,000 mile service along with work on fuel injectors, fan belt, spark plugs, filters, fluids, etc....all in a single-days' work! Ron was one of the most honest mechanics I've dealt with and I can't say enough about this place. Full disclosure with pricing - no gimmicks or surprises. In sum, Ron, Mike and crew did an excellent job on my car (which is running better than it has in a while) and I highly recommend them to anyone with automotive needs. read more

Love this place and Ron and Mike are so nice. Even better, you can trust them. We took our car there after Star Ford in Glendale said they would charge $800 to change a hose - and it would take 3-4 days. A & E did it in a day for half the price. They did a great job, are super nice and explain everything and we are now their new and happy customers for life. Thank you! read more

This business is very solid. It was recommended to us by our former long time shop when they retired. Responsive, straight shooting and fair. Can't ask for more. read more

I went in today on another mechanic's recommendation (a mechanic who was recommended to me, but who only works on Honda's, and I have a Ford). I was concerned about an undercarriage squeak, and after Ron took it for a spin (with me in the car) he said that it's nothing to be alarmed about. But if it got worse I could come back. All in all it was not a life-threatening or dangerous squeak. Back at the shop I had them replace 2 lights for me (since I was at a Ford mechanic, they had the parts & I'm too lazy to go to Auto Zone & do it myself). Once they had it up on the lift they looked for squeaking/rubbing part and oiled one area of the car. Labor for the 2 light replacements was about 20 minutes - $27... so worth it. I can't give them 5 stars, because they didn't actually fix anything for me. If I go back (which I can't see why I wouldn't), and they do a good job I will update this to 5 stars. Until then... read more

There isn't a better mechanic than Mike out there. He's done awesome work on my car and he's honest about what needs to be replaced vs giving exorbitant quotes for something you don't need. I went to another independent shop to get my valve cover gaskets replaced and see what was up with the Check Engine light. That shop gave me a $1700 quote to replace my cat. I told em I'd be back when I could afford it. A little over a year later, I went to A&E to possibly replace my starter. He checked out the Check Engine problem and realized it was the same problem as the starter. He replaced a $10 part - a temperature sensor that was bad - that was causing extra fuel to dump into the cat. He saved me over $1600. I go to Mike for everything that his shop can take care of. Highly recommend this place! read more

I have been going to A&E for years and have been consistently grateful for the time spent explaining services to me. I know that i am getting quality work at a fair price and love being given options on what is most critical to be completed. I know that my safety (and the safety of my passengers!) is never in question since the work is done well. From big to small items- a&e has my business! read more

Ron was incredibly helpful with an emergency issue with my car. I stopped in without notice at the recommendation of a friend and Ron immediately stopped what he was doing to help diagnose the problem. He was knowledgable, professional and provided valuable assistance. It's great to know that guys like Ron still exist in the auto repair industry! read more

Ron and Mike are super responsive and honest. Follow through is great and even in the most challenging cases the set appropriate expectations. Been using A&E since early 90's, it le nice to see the same faces every time, 30 years later. read more

The most honest mechanic I've come across, Ron and the boys give great advice on routine maintenance without trying to sell me stuff I don't need. They're not just for Fords either, I regularly have them service my 2008 Ford Focus as well as my 1970 Chevelle Malibu. No complaints here only great honest service. read more

Went to A&E a few years back to have the brakes check on my wife's Dodge Durango after seeing another mechanic who wanted over a $1000 with out even looking the brakes. couldn't get out of there fast enough. Ron explain to me that there was no mechanical problem but it was how the brakes were applied during an abrupt stop. ABS braking system. Both Ron and Mike are extremely, honest, excellent at their craft and very reasonable for the service they provide. We will never go another shop again.thanks guys, you are the best. I live in Canyon Country and first took my 2003 Mustang to A & E Automotive when a shop near my house told me the head gaskets were blown and they were going to charge me $4,000 to repair it. A very reliable source recommended I take it to A & E so that they can give me a second opinion. I did and it turned out that it was overheating because the cooling fan and thermostat needed to be replaced. They saved me thousands of dollars. They are extremely knowledgeable about the vehicle. When they started the car both Ron and Mike knew immediately that it wasn't the head gaskets. That was almost a year ago and I have taken it there ever since. Not just for the big items, but for all the services needed on the vehicle. They are always extremely helpful, upfront and honest about the work they are going to do. They have always let me know what needs to be done now and what can wait until the next service. I never feel like they are pressing me into repairs that are not necessary. It's a long way from Canyon Country to Pasadena for a car repair, but so worth the trip. read more

I had to get the motor mounts changed on my van. My normal mechanic had quoted a price so high it kept me from changing them out for months. By the time I brought the van to Ron at A&E, they were completely shot. Ron not only offered me a better price, they were able to get the job done the next day. No more engine noise in the cabin! The van runs great! I'll be going to A&E for all things automotive from now on. read more

This is a true treasure! Honest, reliable mechanics! The specialize in Ford products but, can take care of anything. Steve is great. He will shoot you straight on what is wrong with your car. They do what they say they will do and stand by their work. read more

I just want to leave a review of how honest they're. I believe the owners name was Ron. I called to ask about my transmission fluid being changed. He gave a honest answer and told me not to change it. That it wasn't time for me to change it! I recommend this place for everyone. Specially the ladies that don't know too much. That they will definitely be honest with you! read more

Great find in Pasadena. Worked with Ron who is terrific. These folks are car people that care and know about cars. Reasonable prices and expertise to save you lots in the long term. I can confirm they stand behind their work 100%. Looking forward to a long relationship with this shop. read more

I've been coming here a long time. Can't speak highly enough of the service and care Ron, the owner, provides. Mike is wonderful too!

We brought in a '91 Mustang which wouldn't start. A&E diagnosed a bad fuel pump and leaky power steering. After a great deal of consideration (and an assurance that, once fixed, the car would "run and run"), we decided to get it fixed for $1300. It worked long enough to get it home, but then started working intermittently. We brought it back, and they replaced the igniter/ignition coil for another $300 (for parts; they threw in the labor) and cleaned off some of the accumulated PS fluid. It was better, but still died on the road sometimes. Six months later it got too expensive to continually tow and repair, and we junked it. The part that bothers me the most is that they assured me that, after $1300, the car would be working. After I brought it back, they said that actually there was no way to tell. If he had told me that *before* I spent the $1300, I would have junked the car and spent my money on something newer. This was a waste of a LOT of money that I really needed. read more

I was originally recommended to A&E from Accurate, where my wife had been taking her Toyota (I drive a Ford). These guys run a good, honest business. A few months ago, I had some noise under the hood that I figured was the water pump. Ron and Mike explained how they would diagnose the noise source and determined that it was the water pump and the tensioner pulley. They got everything done by EOD so I could still pick up my son from childcare on time. In response to the negative review -- nobody is perfect, but these guys have always tried to do their best for me. read more

#1 Mechanic in Pasadena! I just had the 100,000+ service done on my 2000 Ford Lightning. Their prices are more than fair for the care and attention to detail. I appreciate them letting me know what services to plan for down the road (pun intended), and I always trust that my truck is completely road-worthy whether I'm cruising around town or headed out of state. Owner Ron Havens is a treasure, and Lead Mechanic Mike is extremely knowledgeable and well-trained. read more

This was first experience with A&E who were recommended by the group who worked on another "brand" of vehicle I owned. I purchased a 2008 Ford Explorer and asked Ron and Mike to give the vehicle a once over and Ron said he would look at the car as if "he was the new owner". The work was estimated before it was begun and was completed in one day under the estimate. I will be back as needed for this car. read more

Great experience and the best customer service I have ever received at an automotive repair shop! Ron is a car repair expert through and through...from my Ford Flex, to my class A motor home to my Father's Toyota Corolla, Ron can fix it. Had coolant leaking from the front of my Cevy Tahoe so I brought it to A & E to have it looked at. Ron charged me $40 to tell me I needed a new water pump and said it would be $600 to replace it. I've had 4 water pumps replaced on several cars over the years and no one has ever charged me to diagnose it and each time I paid between $300 and $400. Maybe a Chevy water pump is more expensive or the prices have gone up since my last one, so I called around and all the quotes were still around $300-$400 for OEM parts and labor. read more

Wow! I went to the garage I've been using for the last four years to get a headlight fixed. I asked them to go ahead and do an oil change while I was there, since it was about time. They did the oil change, but forgot to fix my headlight (even when I REMINDED them). I was really worrying about driving with one headlight, and one of my friends referred me to A & E. I stopped by, and they said it would just take a couple minutes to change out the headlight (it did). While I was waiting, I told the owner (Ron is AWESOME!) that my air conditioner wasn't putting out much cold air. They checked the air conditioner function, and added some Freon. When I got back in the car to leave, it BLEW FREEZING AIR AT ME. It was 100 degrees yesterday, and the cold air was so welcome. I was only there about 15 minutes. They fixed two problems, and the price was so REASONABLE. I'd go back to them any time, for any problem ... honest, ethical, and efficient ... what a combination! read more

My family has been coming here for decades. I usually own a Ford, so this is where I go for service. Ron and the staff are patient and helpful and do good work.
