    Thompson Machine & Welding

I needed threaded rod added to the end of twelve 3/4" steel rods and a hole drilled through twelve…read more5/8" nuts. I contacted Thompson Machine & Welding. A person by the name of Michelle answered and set up a meeting on Monday noon. I met with Darren, the machinist and dropped off the materials. Two days later I received a text stating that the job was complete and I could pick it up at 4:30 pm. The next text showed a picture of an invoice, the total: $1487.50. Yep, $1500 dollars for the job. Supposedly Darren had been working on the job full-time since I dropped it off - 18.5 hours of machining. The invoice also indicated CASH ONLY for payment. I showed up at 4:30 pm with the cash and received a call from the Michelle - apparently the job was not yet ready. Michelle showed up at my car at 4:45 pm with a single rod and a single nut complete. 'Is this what you are looking for?' she said. I said yes. She then returned to the shop. Fifteen minutes later(about 5:00 pm) Darren showed up with the box of 12 rods and 12 nuts completed. I thought it was weird that a job which had taken 18.5 hours took another 30 minutes once I arrived but I handed over the cash and went my way. Since that time I've been unable to contact either Michelle or Darren, one phone number says it's not set up and the other says the voicemail is not set up. I've texted Michelle's number twice asking that the invoice be sent over. I contacted Thompson Machine & Welding and a man named Dick answered, said he heard about the job but could not give me Darren's number because he had a new phone. According to Dick there is no way I can contact Michelle or Darren. So I've spent $1500 dollars with 'Thompson Machine & Welding' and there is no way I can even get an invoice. I'm not sure if this company exists or if ex-employees are running scams on callers or what is going on - but I thought this information would be helpful to anyone looking for machine work from this 'company'.

So we choose action automotive, SO GLAD WE DID, they are awesome, very quick to find the problem and fix it. Great price and didn't try to do unnecessary work. VERY professional and friendly place to do business with. I highly recommend them.

We went over the issues & pricing for the work to be performed. Tuesday 12/9/25, I called Jeff to discuss availability & when I could bring my truck in. I was told Monday morning. Monday 12/15/25, I delivered my truck first thing in the morning & went over the symptoms again. I was told I would be called the following day with an update. Tuesday 12/16/25, After not receiving an update, I called & spoke with Justin (General Manager). I was informed that they were not able to duplicate the problem during a cold start, to which I replied that the issue happens during a warm or hot start. This was already thoroughly discussed several times. I was told that the Service Manager had failed to provide that information. Justin then pulled up my work order on the computer & found that yes, the information had been documented in detail. Again, I was told that I would be contacted the following day with an update. Wednesday 12/17/25, After not receiving an update, I called to learn the status of my truck. Justin informed me that Eric test drove my truck to Paulden & back to bring the engine up to temperature. He also allowed the truck to idle in the parking lot for an extended period & that there was no starting problem. I was told I would be called the following day with an update. Thursday 12/18/25, After not receiving an update, I once again called to find out the status of my truck & spoke with Justin. I was informed that they had yet to find the problem. During several of these calls, I was asked if this vehicle was my daily driver, to which I replied that it was & the repairs should be as prompt as possible. Friday morning, 12/19/25. I arrived at Action Automotive prior to the business opening. I found my truck in the front parking lot near the street where it had been stored overnight. Both doors were left unlocked. Furthermore, upon opening the rear hatch, I found my tools scattered across the bed of the truck. I have driven that truck in excess of 100K miles with those tools in the back & have never found them out of place. Someone had to drive my truck fairly hard to accomplish that. According to the odometer reading, the Paulden test drive story was pure fabrication. I went into the office to inform Justin that I would be taking my truck home after what I had found, as I no longer had any faith in this shop. This generated a profane tantrum from Justin, attempted intimidation & the refusal to return my vehicle key. The key was eventually "located" & returned. The original starting problem reoccurred the following day. EDIT: REPLY My truck's doors were left unlocked overnight(s) in an unsecured parking area near the main street. The tools in my truck were scattered across the bed by an aggressive driver. The odometer reading proves that the Paulden test drive story is false. You were not there & the story your son is telling you, is also false. There is a recurring theme in the negative reviews you've received. Very revealing how the common reply is to deny, deflect & initiate a personal attack upon the customer.

Mr. P is the one who went here, so forgive me for the uneducated "parts speak"!…read more By word of mouth, Mr. P was referred to Johnny Rackley's to mill his heads and block. He walks in and the record scratches. "Who sent you?", a gal bellows from the shop. In a small voice, Mr. P says that he had been referred here for his engine. "So, you've got work for me?", she replies. "Yes?" He notes that the gals are wearing bikinis and daisy dukes. The guys are dressed in normal shop shirts. In case you wondered. He brings his engine and discusses what he'd like done. Once it was determined that he was not a solicitor or with the IRS, his work was accepted. They were quite friendly after that. A great price for the work too...several hundred lower than a quote from another shop. They stayed in good contact with him, and let him know right away when the springs (?) he had ordered had one with an inner coil missing. They were patient as we ordered another set. Pickup was easy, and the cost was right on par with what was quoted. The only thing we weren't happy about was hitting our shiny metal with bead (abrasive bead blasting), so now it's a textured, flat surface. Doesn't everyone want a shiny motor? Overall, we would definitely come here again, and would just be more specific of our expectations at the end. The value is spectacular and the other work performed was top notch.
