My carpet was about as bad as it gets. Being so heavily sodded, replacement carpet was probably my best and only option. Decided to give A1 a call after seeing some good reviews on Google Plus. Talked to Michelle, told her what I needed done and she gave me a rough estimate over the phone, then preceded to set an appointment. Unfortunately on the appointment date I was at work all day and only my dog was home, Joe called me when he got there and I told him to put the dog on the back porch and see what he could do with my very dirty carpet. He told me he would take a look and get some measurements and call me back with a more exact price. Few minutes go by and of course he calls back, says that the carpet is pretty bad but he will do what he can, price is projected though to be more than originally estimated over the phone. I say okay go at it, not having high hopes for said dirty carpet. Couple hours go by and he calls me back and says okay I'm done looks a lot better, also I let your dog back in. I say thanks a bunch, and wait to get out of work to check out what he was able to do. So I get home, open up my door and walk into the living room and turn on the lights. I am instantly rendered speechless at the sight of NEW carpet. But it wasn't new carpet, it was my OLD carpet that now looked brand new! I mean I'm not a pessimist or anything but I did not expect Joe to be able to do much, the carpet was really that bad. He did an amazing job, wildly exceeding my expectations, and making me want to start telling everyone about him! And the fact that he does all the work himself? Who does that! He does because he wants every job to be at his standard. Which is a really high standard in my opinion, the best kind to have with a business like his. So anyways carpet looked amazing, expectations were exceeded, dog was skipping, etc...Oh and then he had to go and charge me for what I was originally told over the phone with Michelle, even though I gave the wrong dimensions to her. Singularly the best carpet cleaning service I've used in the last five years since I moved to C-ville! First, Joe showed up on time and was professionally dressed and clean. Second, his equipment was clean and he properly protected my home from the hoses and other cleaning equipment. Third, when we connected to my outside spigot, it burst and flooded my basement with about two inches of water before I noticed it. My fault as if froze the previous evening and I didn't properly prepare it for the winter. Immediately I called to Joe and shut the water off to the house. Without asking, Joe ran out to his van and retrieved additional water removal equipment including fans for drying and assisted me in moving my stuff (a storage room and family room worth). After cleaning up ALL of the water, he continued on with the carpet cleaning. Talk about going above and beyond! Without him assisting I would have been cleaning up water for a day or so. Afterward, he left a fan so it would completely dry out - for free, and didn't want to accept a generous tip. I gave it to him anyway! I recently hired Joe of A-1 to clean a condo in preparation for a new tenant moving in. He failed to show up for the first scheduled appointment. We rescheduled the appointment. He cleaned the condo and billed us for $432.00 which we thought was high for a 2 bedroom condo. When the rental agent showed the condo to a perspective tenant she called me to say that the carpet was very dirty and unacceptable to the tenant. The tenant rented the condo but then had to hire someone to clean the carpet, I called Joe to register my concerns and ask for him to make it right per his guarantee. He refused and insisted that the carpet had been properly cleaned. When it became clear that he had intention of honoring his guarantee I ended the conversation. There may be those who say that A-1 Carpet Cleaners are a bit pricier than other companies, but Joe earned every penny. I have never seen anyone work as hard at anything as he did. Our carpets were horrible: 10 years of abuse and many souvenirs of our grandchildren: mysteriously trailing stains and, of course, the spot where our little granddaughter threw up. It was dark gray and it was growing. . . ! None of this alarmed Joe, and the results were astonishingly good. I didn't think it was possible. Plus--and I value this in any service person--he called when he was on his way. Very pleasant person, someone a woman alone will feel comfortable having in her house. I absolutely recommend you use A-1 Carpet Cleaners in Charlottesville. Seeing the results on your carpets and upholstery will make your week! Reasonably priced for the quality you get - i'll never go with another company. Far better than Stanley Steamer and other franchise cleaners, A-1 does a PERFECT job of making even dirty, stained carpets and upholstery (Karastan etc rugs, too) like new. They get lots of spots out you never thought would be gone, including old pet spots. Joe has many years experience and loves his work. He's absolutely thorough, professional and considerate. Best carpet cleaning in town. Joseph has cleaned our carpets for the last 10 years. I once tried to save a few dollars by trying a valpak coupon with a franchise company. Big mistake. My house smelled like smoke from the guys who did the cleaning and they cut every corner possible. A-1 provides the exact opposite of the franchise experience. He goes over the same area several times (not just once like other companies) to get it really clean. He takes great pride in great service and uses high quality products. Worth every penny.
