Never a dull or boring menu at the NINES as their seasonal menu alwt has something that will catch anyone's eye. Today I had the pleasure of being served by both a shift manager Julia and my regular waitress Connie; who's always top top notch. I was literally being tag teamed by Julia and Connie when I first arrived. The service was flawless!! It was wonderful !! Whenever I am here, this particular 99 is always well managed and goes about and beyond. I consider 99 Restaurant to be a hidden gem next the menu prices are extremely reasonable for what you get between food quality, speed of service, consistent service with knowledgeable / loyal staff. Stopped in for a late lunch. Seated quickly and served fast. Server was pleasant and patient. Mango ice teas were a little lacking in overall taste but still good. Our entrees came out pretty fast but the seafood trio had some raw shrimp in it so as had to send it back to get recooked. Disappointing. We've always loved going to 99 but most of them in CT are now gone. This was our first trip to the Wallingford one. They had a small $14.99 and my wife had the turkey plate from there. It was excellent. I had the steak tips, which were always our favorite, and known for them, but they came out from a different recipe and were tough to eat. The waitress took it back and I had the fried chicken instead. Unfortunately it wasn't the good fried chicken I've often had there, but the country fried chicken. It was over fried. Today I got a bacon cheeseburger The plate was completely finished because it was delicious. I got the broiled steak tips with mashed potatoes and rice I got them cooked medium and they came out perfect. I never have to put any sauce on them because the flavor is on point. For appetizers I got the mozzarella moons which are always good and the spinach artichoke dip which was a little too hot when I took that first bite but that's my fault. My wife and I are regulars of this 99. Today 2/12 we arrived at 3:50pm and we were told the prime rib would not be for another 45 minutes I then ordered the T-bone for $38. They also said the baked potatoes would not be available for another 45 minute So I ordered mashed potatoes as they suggested. The steak was thin and the worst i have ever tasted it was thin overcooked They also served me a baked potato the size of an egg which was so burnt on one side you could not cut thru it. This was my first time going to Ninety Nine. The restaurant had a nice bar area, and we found the staff (hostess and servers) to be very friendly. A nice touch was when being seated we were served a bowl of popcorn. I ordered the Country Fried Chicken that came with mashed potatoes, corn, and a honey glazed biscuit. I also was able to substitute of the cranberry sauce for broccoli.My wife ordered the Honey Mustard Chicken Salad. The salad was huge. Our food came out very quickly, and we were both very pleased with our entrées. I also found the prices here to be very reasonable. The service was excellent. He tells me he comes to 99 in his town once a week for this meal . My 10 yr old had a appetizer just boneless Buffalo tenders which he loved so much and he added a side of their tasty coleslaw today. We are not regulars - they don't know us by name, but we have been there several times - Always good - never a complaint. Whenever I eat out - I get steak. 99 never had Rib-Eye. I was very excited to see Rib-Eye on the menu, so I ordered it. I received a NY Strip. Told Waitress - She got "the Manager", I think. He came out & I told him the problem. He said it is Rib-Eye. I said it's not a Rib-Eye. He said it is Rib-Eye we cut it off the Rib-Eye every day - do you want something else? I said it doesn't look like Rib-Eye, it doesn't taste like Rib-Eye, it doesn't cut like Rib-Eye. I said look at all the nerve in it - he didn't look. He said it is a Rib-Eye, do you want something else? He should've offered to take something off the bill. I didn't notice the price of the NY Strip, but looking at your website now, Rib-Eye is about $7 more. I didn't want to waste the food, so I just no, never mind. I am 63 years old, have been eating Rib-Eye since I was 14 years old. It is the only cut of meat I buy & I still eat it every week. He wasn't rude, but treated me like I was an idiot, like it was my 1st time eating Rib-Eye. Either he's a vegetarian, or doesn't eat meat, or just doesn't like to please his customers. I've been here quite a few times since discovering it back in 2017. There's a bunch of options on the menu, the staff is usually pretty friendly, and the food comes out pretty good. One of the things I love is that they serve ya popcorn instead of bread and butter. Overall, nothing too spectacular but definitely a good place to stop in if you have no idea what to make for dinner or just want to go somewhere for a quick eat. The restaurant let's kiddos eat for free when the Red Sox win so definitely check the scores and bring your family in for cool the deal. I've been here many times so I know how the food comes out. I had the haddock with the breadcrumbs, which I requested to be lightly toasted. It came out with the breadcrumbs more blackened than usual. When I said something to the person who brought it out, which I believe was the manager, he just responded that they bake it in the oven. This resulted in the fish being dry. It seems that a little less time in the oven would have solved the problem. On top of that, the French fries were too done. Enjoy 99, menu is limited with mostly comfort food. My wife and I have found a menu item unexpected for 99, they offer a stuffed shrimp with or without steak. Stuffing is excellent and shrimp are plentiful with outstanding flavor. Ill keep it simple, overpriced. Bad food. Generic yet still manages to be worse that all of its competitors. I bought three things. Haddock, steak, and the chicken tenders. The haddock had the most promise it was flaky and with the lemon you almost believe you are enjoying your meal. But it was dripping in juices and water. It arrived lukewarm. The breading was falling off from the moisture and was soggy and the whole dish had an overly fishy taste The steak was the best thing but that's because it is a steak. It was small so make sure you recognize the OZ of the steak you order. The chicken tenders....my God. By the looks of the menu versus what you get in person it looks like the grounds for a false advertising lawsuit. It is the size of a green bean but shriveled up and dry with the breading falling off. I was in such shock when first looking at my order because I could have sworn I did not order calamari. The latest visit has been a disappointing experience. From the start, we stood at the entrance waiting to be seated for about 2 mins without anyone even acknowledging us. I knew from that point that it seemed to be short staffed and was second guessing our dinner. We finally sat and the restaurant was fairly empty and not busy at all. Our waitress took our order and that's where the wait ensued. We waiting about 40 mins for our food to be delivered to the table. This was highly out of the norm because we normally had food at the table in about 20 mins. When I finally got my meal, the steak was almost well done and I requested medium. The steak was tough and dry because of the well done temperature. This visit was probably one of the worst visits and I have eaten here quite a bit. Please get your stuff together. read more

We always go to the Wallingford spot- it's pretty convenient, especially when I need to go to the grocery store [S & S is right behind it] and feel like I should probably eat before I go there or face the consequences of walking out of there with a cart full of junk food. Consistently good service- we've been going here for at least 5 years and I can honestly not recall ever having a bad server. The food is exactly what you would expect from an affordable sit down restaurant- not amazing but not bad; it does the job. They do have some pretty good salads and other options when you're watching your calories- all the calories are listed. And if you're on a budget they have a solid selection of meals under $10. This past week went on a Thursday night for what I consider a late dinner and for some reason it was packed and there was a wait- only like 5/10 min. We both chose items off the new holiday menu- I got the Roasted Maple Pork Tenderloin & hubby got the New England Style Baked Scallops. Side note: for whatever reason, it makes me really happy that when you order water with lemon they skewer it with a little plastic arrow and balance it on top so you can easily pluck it out and squeeze it into your water. And of course the free popcorn- it was crazy salty, but that didn't stop me from eating all of it. So the pork was actually pretty good- I liked the cider au jus and it was even better when dipped in the apple maple chutney. The scallops looked like they were cooked in water or just goer natural juices so he requested a side of butter and was able to add that for some more flavor. Even with that he did say they were a little bitter. As usual the server was great- super friendly and checked in on us frequently even though it was busy.
