When I arrived, Steve said he had it put on a lift and they "discovered" that all of the pipes and joints were so rusty, that he was afraid that when he started cutting into it, that basically the entire undercarriage would have to be replaced : large rear muffler, large front muffler, the small muffler we spoke about, ALL the piping and "probably more". I asked how much and was told "at least $1200". They said they'd order the parts for the next day. When I left, I could hear odd knocking on the bottom and the smell of exhaust in the front cabin that wasn't there before, or ever. I called back the next day to report this and was blown off with "ma'am, you have an exhaust leak and the knocking you are hearing is because you probably drove over something". I knew then they were not on the up and up, so I played along and asked if my parts came in. They said yes, all but one. I asked what they were missing and was told "a part". He kept saying "just a part" but would not tell me WHAT part. Finally I was forceful and told him I needed the name of "the part". . Steve finally said, the Catalytic Converter. Horses***!. He said I needed that too. Tack on another several hundred dollars, plus labor. Scammers! I took it somewhere else the next morning, and the only thing it needed was the muffler, parts & labor $95. I've heard of stories like this, but, wow, the level of deception was criminal.

Modern Automotive was the first place that came up in Google and I went there. I was in good hands. I first spoke with Thomas Morris who immediately put me at ease with his honesty and genuine problem-solving attitude. I left my car with them and continued on my trip in a rental. Through a series of MY mistakes and lack of ability to figure out how to get my car back once they had completed the work, it was left there for far more than the original time I thought it would be. But they were extremely gracious with me and helped me figure out a good solution. During this time I spoke much with Chuck Swain (Owner) over the phone. Some approach business with him by pushing agendas and expectations. Expect push back from him if you do this. If you want someone to tiptoe around your feelings only to upcharge you or fix things that aren't necessary, you'll be better going somewhere else. He may be gruff, but if you go in making a decision to assume he knows his stuff, and not be triggered...you'll find yourself discovering a gem in Don...and you might just make a friend in the process. As far as Towing, I have had two cars towed by them and the drivers were always great. I also…read morethought they may be good for auto repairs and have had cars to them at least 4 times. Prices seemed high but I figured for the convince of location was worth it. This is until the last time I had a problem. Coming home from work the car lost power and called for a tow. When he arrived he put on the jumper cables and sparks flew out like I have never seen from just a jump. Battery would not hold charge and he said he thought it was the alternator-so had him take it to shop and install new alternator. Got car when when finished and went to work. That night, the exact same thing happened and same driver came and tried to jump and more extreme sparks out of battery and this time he said that "the battery is to small for the car" so back it went and had new battery installed. This time when I picked it up the windows, radio, rear break lights and dash board lights were not working. Back to their shop it went. I called the next morning to check to see if it had been looked at and was told "havnt had time" waited a day and still nothing so i just said forget it and picked it up. A co-worked said "it sounds like he fried the battery and/ or blew fuses when he jumped it". So took it down the road to another mechanic and he fixed it within 2 hours and said the TOTAL CAR CARE seemed to have blown the fuses when jumping,and said I probably didnt need the alternator nor the battery- they are crooked and overpriced
