Positives first: The service was very good. Our waitress, Marian, was pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable throughout the evening. The drinks were also well done. I ordered the tableside smoked Old Fashioned, which was surprisingly tasty--I usually find the smoking aspect to be more novelty than substance. Areas needing improvement: The steak tartare itself was good; however, the accompaniments were under-portioned relative to the amount of tartare. The bread served with it was basic toasted white bread, which felt underwhelming for a restaurant at this level. The New Year's Eve prime rib special was inconsistent--warm around the edges but cold in the center. Now for the disappointing part: I ordered the sea bass, which arrived cold and frozen in the middle. I returned the dish, and our waitress was extremely apologetic. Unfortunately, by the time an update was provided--about 30 minutes later--we were told another sea bass would take an additional 30 minutes to prepare. By then, everyone else at the table had finished their meals, so I had no choice but to cancel my order and go without dinner. To her credit, the waitress did offer us a dessert in an effort to make things right. With a bill exceeding $300, I would expect a much higher level of quality control. For a restaurant at this price point, these issues shouldn't occur. That said, I would be open to giving 980 another chance. Waited over a year...dunno why! I finally got to experience the 980 Prime Steakhouse at the Chamonix...and was it a meal to remember. Also, this dinner was our holiday dinner...a tradition amongst a close group of friends living up here in Cripple Creek for several years now. First...to set the stage...since its opening, I have heard everything under the sun about this restaurant...good, bad and ugly. I have to take some of the reviews by my local folks and friends with a grain of salt...simply because we are just not used to a truly fine dining experience up here in Cripple Creek Colorado. Just saying. Being from Denver all my life and traveling the world, a fine dining experience is...yes, a luxury, but something which happens a LOT more frequently than up here in Cripple Creek. A simple summary of what our party drank and ate: various cocktails, oysters on the half shell, pork chop, bison filet, filet mignon, scallops, 2 bottles of wine, all topped off with a cheesecake and some Grand Marnier. Everything was not only perfectly prepared and presented...but absolutely outstanding. Special mention were the oysters...as several of us said these were the cleanest and best tasting oysters we have ever had! Celebrating 90th Birthday at my favorite restaurant in Cripple Creek. Been enjoying their food, service, ambience for many years,,,since they opened. Izzy, host seated us at our table of choice. Harmony, drink mixologist greeted is with a welcome Happy Birthday. The event was excellent....my wife and I were provided with a large table, enough room for all the foods we ordered and our friends who came by at times. We ordered a chilled bottle to Presco and appetizers, each perfect. We were honored with visits from Marketing Director, Wendy Field, Personal Casino Host Wendi Vinson and Chamonix Vice President and General Manager, Brandon Lenssen. Our attentive service person, Heidi was and is a treasure. She waited patiently for our menu choices, while our guests were telling us stories and I in turn gave pointed notes about living to 90, enjoying good health. We enjoyed warm assorted breads, oysters, salad and a most succulent 24 ounce steak with wine sauce. All at the level of perfection. The event was capped with many photos, chilled Presco and the most beautiful 90th year cake. This was prepared by the very talented pastry chef, Johnny Iuzzni, who is a James Beard Winner. What a fun night! Came with my daughter for dinner . We tried several things and besides little issue with one of the salads ( issue was immediately resolved) all food was delicious, fresh and of good quality. It's a beautiful , classy restaurant. Beautiful restaurant with very knowledgeable staff and we were well taken care of! Service was great, from the server, to bartenders, floor managers, and support staff! Located to the right out of Chamonix hotel. Food was pretty good! We shared the wedge salad which they split into 2 plates which was really nice. My husband had the filet mignon MR which was almost cooked to perfection. It was more on the rare side but we rather have that than a medium! I had the scallop special: scallops were delicious, risotto that came with was okay. I probably would've preferred it with mash potatoes or something else. Asparagus side was delicious! 980 Prime completely exceeded my expectations. The space itself is absolutely beautiful, way nicer than I was expecting. It really sets the tone for an amazing dining experience. Every dish we ordered was high quality and delicious. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly, incredibly tender and flavorful. The Caesar salad was spot-on (it really was as it should be haha!) the steak tartare was excellent, and the broccolini was a great complement to the meal. The fried calamari was good (I personally would've loved it a bit crispier), but still very enjoyable. Dessert was a highlight: the cheesecake was fantastic, and the flambé banana dessert completely surprised me, I don't even like bananas, and I loved it. The show was awesome, very nice flambé person lol. We did have a small issue with a dish I didn't mention, but the staff handled it flawlessly. They immediately agreed with us, took it off the bill, and made the situation completely stress-free. Zero issues. On top of the incredible food, the staff truly made the night. Went here with some friends who knew all the staff and Chef Barry who was working. We sat at the bar and had an absolutely incredible meal and drinks. The gratis table bread is the best, fluffiest focaccia I've ever had. My husband had the Caesar salad to start and the braised short rib ravioli and said it was fantastic. Pro tip: save a slice of bread to soak up the sauce off your plate. I had the mixed greens salad to start and the potato gnocchi in truffle cream sauce. Omg drool. The gnocchi were pillowy but had a nice sear - the best combination. Christopher made exceptional cocktails and of all the ones I tried, my favorite was the You're Gold You're Mine. 980 Prime is where you want to be if you want a higher-end steakhouse experience. When you arrive, the vibe is similar to what you would experience in Chicago or New York. My wife and I recently visited for our 22 anniversary while staying at the Chamonix Casino Hotel. We were greeted by several members of the team and were welcomed with a glass of champagne and a warm anniversary wish from the manager. Everyone was great! We ordered the steak tartare to start and inquired about the old-fashioned cart. Soon, both were at our table. The steak tartare was excellent, only lacking a little salt, but it was delicious. We found the fresh bread they brought to the table was better with this than the brioche they served it with. The cocktail cart was a lot of fun, and the guy making the drinks was very personable and entertaining. He also made a wonderful OF, and the sassafras smoke added just a little more. We went on to entrees, where she ordered the surf and turf, and I ordered the 12oz--40-day aged ribeye. We also ordered the gnocchi. Everything arrived within a reasonable amount of time and looked delicious. Her meal was perfect, cooked to perfection and sooo good. Mine, unfortunately, was overcooked and had to be redone. It was not a huge deal, but we could not enjoy our meal together. I didn't want hers to be cold when mine returned. They quickly fixed it, but it put a damper on the evening. They were very apologetic, but it was what it was. After I finished my steak, which was great the second time around, we ordered the F'N chocolate cake. This was huge and super-rich. We asked them to box up about half of it, and we enjoyed it at the rooftop pool with a bottle of wine later that night. All in all, it was a pretty good experience. However, a steakhouse that can't hit its temps when charging a premium is pretty disappointing. The other thing that I found frustrating is that on the hotel website, they offer $100 off at the restaurant when staying with them. Wonderful respite with such care and devotion to their service and quality. After a long day of driving, shopping, walking and gambling - we were starving and ready to get off our feet. We were given a friendly greeting at the door and quickly seated. Our server, Marion, was a breath of fresh air. She had great food and drink recommendations, super friendly and quick to get us everything we could have wanted. Hands down best steak we have had in years, and we travel everywhere. We send our complements to Sacha for the perfect cook and two of the greatest steaks. The lobster bisque made by Beverly beat out the great bisque at the Brown Derby. My wife and I were very excited to try this place and it was the feature of our weekend in Cripple Creek. However we were very disappointed. The lobster mac and cheese side was almost $50 and we could only eat a few bites due to the lobster tasting so bad. The steak was decent, but not worth $89 and was thin. The baked potato on the side was fine but the peel was burnt. My wife's drink was quite good, I believe it was the Cupid's Kiss. I had the 9494 Old Fashioned and it was not good. Very sweet and I didn't enjoy it. The service was great, staff was all very kind. The ambiance and lighting was also very nice. However the food was very low quality for that high of a price tag. I cook better than the Broadmoor in colo springs and i cookbetter than 980. And yes I have worked in a top quality restaurant. Dont have high expectations of 980 steakhouse. Food was B-. Overall service and value were terrible. First of all there was 4 of us set at a table one side was extremely wobbly like a 3 inch drop if you put weight on the edge. The waitress argued a bit that it was fine? She finally moved us to a good table. Then later set a couple there, one of them eventually moved to the other open seat next to him. She made no effort to fix table. Before she moved us she actually handed us a napkin to put under the table base to see if we could steady it. Really? We ordered the dual lobster, two turf and surfs and braised ravioli and meat ball. Dual lobsters were excellent. The Surf and turf was ok but they give you like a half a lobster on top of a small fillet. For the price the dual lobster much better. My wife's ravioli was sub par, she only ate a few bites. I didn't even like it and I like almost anything. The $14 salad was brown. Everything is à la carte., so your meal ends up over $120 each. For that price I expect exceptional service and a full tail on a surf and turf. It was my friend's birthday so we held back complaining, they didn't even offer him a desert for his birthday. We would have all ordered one if they did. Management needs to fix the service, and for the prices they need to give more value. read more

The food was terrible. (And for Valentine's weekend, I'm truly shocked.) My husband and I ordered ravioli and prime rib. The ravioli was dry, oily, and kind of gross. Didn't eat it. The prime rib was cold and chewy. Truly the worst prime rib we've ever tasted. We ordered creamed corn as a side. Inedible. No flavor at all. Honestly cannot believe how bad it was. We tried to be kind about it when the server noticed we weren't eating. The Chef came out, and I asked him if he'd tasted anything because of how bad it all was, and he said he hadn't. We really tried to not complain, but we ate very little and nothing was comped. Server dropped our bill on the table and walked away abruptly. Last minute trip during a mini vacation and decided to stop here to eat. We were slightly underdressed (shorts and tshirt) and they let us eat anyways. The restaurant was outside of the casino which made for a better setting. The service was amazing. The staff was super knowledgeable and courteous. They had wonderful recommendations. The gnocchi was drizzled with a truffle sauce that blended so well. The New York steak was cooked to perfection and wasn't over powered by seasoning. The dry age ribeye...my first dry aged steak and I will say that it was yummy. Yes yummy. Not a huge fan of the blue cheese flavors it boasts but it blended well and the steak was cooked to perfection. Now for desserts...one of the best crème brûlées I have ever had. Topped with fresh fruit, the custard was perfect. All of the flavors meshed well and nothing was over powering. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend. read more
