Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees was the hotel that was booked for us by our travel agent. She said it was a reasonably priced 4-Star hotel (which in China is probably closer to a 2.5-Star by Western standards).
As we were shuttled to our hotel the driver told us he thought the hotel was pretty nice but the area wasn't the best, especially if your into quality shopping. We had passed another area in Kowloon that was lined with high end shops similar to on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The area where our hotel was situated was far from that. Mostly local shops & restaurants and not much luxury in sight.
However, Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees is clean and fairly modern. The staff was topnotch in service and attentiveness. It was about $1050 HKD (about $145) per night, which included a standard room twin bed, wifi, buffet breakfast (the last two were extra but included in our price).
The breakfast buffet was pretty good. It featured many different types of foods. There was typical Western food choices (eggs, sausage, ham, fried potatoes, omelette bar, cold cereal, oatmeal, french toast, pastries, etc), but also Chinese choices (congee aka jook, noodle soup station, fried rice, pan fried noodles) and Indian (chana masala--a curried chickpea stew), and charcuterie platter, and so much more. I felt it was a terrific spread with a wide variety of choices.
The room itself was smallish with few amenities. Nothing fancy but sufficient.
I'd recommend this place for its value and good service. read more
