It feels weird to call a music venue 'adorable' but it was. A little venue tucked into the hustle and bustle of Fed Hill, mixed in among the bars. We attended a friend's concert, and were pleasantly surprised to discover it was a small and intimate venue, perfect for saying hi to him while he was on stage. We had pre-gamed, so we didn't partake in the drinks, but they did have good drink prices, with lots of variety-so you aren't just stuck with cheap bad beer. Clean bathrooms, lots of room, good choices between standing room downstairs, upstairs balcony, upstairs seating, bar area, and side sections. You can enjoy the show your way! read more

This is an amazing venue and absolutely worth a stop in! I was recently visiting family in MD and we came to the 8x10 to see a David Bowie/The Who cover band night. I didn't have a lot of expectations but was really pleased to encounter friendly and helpful venue staff, clean and spacious bathrooms, a great crowd and good drinks. I have spent a lot of time in venues like this and I can honestly say my experience was so good that this is now one of my favorites. I also had the opportunity to speak to the owner and thank him for the work he and his wife do running an independent venue - no easy feat at any point in time but especially not these days. He was incredibly gracious and friendly. I felt super safe at this venue and it was clear that the attendees were all looking out for each other, for example there was a visually impaired person in attendance and everyone was looking out for them. People were still having fun and dancing but also being really respectful of each other and the space. This kind of energy is not a given at every music venue and I believe that my positive experience can be attributed to the culture that the owners and staff are trying to cultivate there. I would have loved to go upstairs to see the view from the balcony level but it was not open, so maybe next time. I hope to attend a show here again in the future! read more

Great little music place! You could definitely almost miss it if you don't know what it looks like on the outside. If you have a favorite artist coming in here, definitely grab tickets! I came for Moon Hooch, and it was honestly incredible! Definitely a great place to not only be close enough to the artist to get a good view (if the balcony is open, go for it!), but also stools to sit on if you're early enough. Great concert, very laid-back and fun, and only $20. read more

Music venue in Federal Hill that is easy to get to by walking, bus or by car. We nabbed seats in the upper balcony area which was nice to see down to the band and floor. The floor below was pretty open and filled up quickly for people to dance. Lower rating as the drinks were rather pricy for the venue and the bathrooms were a little grungy in the basement. Would come back and just prepare myself for those things. read more

Really nice venue except for when the doorman tried to pretend he 'forgot' to give me change. He was so obvious others in my party saw it too and later commented on my insisting on getting my change before I moved from the doorway. Great little music venue in the heart of Fed Hill. You might miss this little purple building mixed in with all the bars on Cross Street, but it is worth a trip inside for a great live music experience! The music venue is small and intimate, and is just SO Baltimore! When you enter the first floor there is a long bar on the left and the stage is in the far back. There is some wiggle room for dancing on a less crowded night, but it can fill up fast! There is also an upstairs "U" shaped balcony that overlooks the stage. It's usually only open for busy nights and there is a bar up there as well. The basement is the bathrooms and merch area, so all in all, it is fun to explore all over this place, even though it is small! And, if you are lucky and can get backstage, they have a nice lounge area which is also pretty cool to hang out in and they even have a rooftop deck up there too! Overall, it is a very fun and unique little spot. The bands are always good, local musicians and bands that are touring alike! It is always a good show and a good time! read more

Loveeee me some 8X10, it's literally exactly what you think it is and it rocks for that. Nice cool little venue tucked away and they get some of the most interesting and unique bands here in the city and some from outside of it. Whenever I forget that it is here I literally beat myself up for nothing hanging out here more. Definitely one of the hidden gems here in Fed Hill and should not be overlooked. read more

8x10 is a cute little Baltimore venue. Clean, with a u-shaped balcony and good sized stage for the space. There was even some seating on the balcony. Good sight lines throughout. I'd gues it holds about 300. I don't think it does very many shows I would call indie, but I went to one here. The problem was the location. The Federal Hill neighborhood of Baltimore has the worst parking situation I've ever encountered. In 40 minutes of circling, we couldn't find a single legal spot, and the only neighborhood parking garage was full. We had to park in a lot a long way away and walk back in the cold weather. The Staff here is incredible. Courteous, nice and professional bartenders, ticket sale, and door. Great selection of drinks, The only downfall is the good part of old federal hill is now a Meathead hang out, where on Friday and Saturdays, the girls look like hookers, and the guys look like the same American eagle ad of the week. DO go see a show here, as it is a small, intimate setting. Try not to go on the weekends, if you are above the age 20, and not in a Frat or sorority. ( The weekend draw a LOT of white boys with no rhythm, or awareness to their own surroundings.) It is NOT the clubs fault of where they are. During the week, this street is just fine. Also, if going to see a show here, avoid parking anywhere else but the west garage! it is two blocks away, and even though expensive, not as expensive as say, a 200$ parking ticket. read more

The 8x10 is a seriously underrated venue in the city. Every seat in the house has a great view of the stage, the acoustics are good, and they don't kill you on drink prices. We did have a weird encounter with some youngins (very early 20's, late teens) who were rolling their faces off (tripping balls/on molly/taking drugs) and were being super disruptive during a chill show we went to last week; they didn't stay long but I wish there was better security/management, since this is a small venue and any disruption affects pretty much everyone. read more

Originally called the 8x10 Club - this place was legendary for Baltimore music. A trip to the upstairs lounge told it's story. The lounge was basically a little room covered with decades of stickers and graffitti, littered with beer bottles and cigarette butts.... it reeked of a legacy of Baltimore rock and roll. A few years ago the entire place was renovated. A fortune was put into cleaning the place up, rebuilding the stage, creating a proper backstage area with dressing rooms and a shower, and redoing the bars. I love the new stuff - it's a great layout - the second floor bar was a nice touch too. The bathrooms are actually usable now! They tend to cater more towards reggae bands and jam bands, leading me to believe that this place is a stoner's concert paradise but I've seen my fair share of ska, rock and even punk bands here too. read more

Nestled among the bars in Federal Hill, this place stands out as a local venue offering decent (sometimes excellent!) bands at reasonable prices in an intimate setting. Sure, the beer is usually too warm and the seats aren't that comfortable. But it's like seeing your favorite band in their garage. With great bars next door. And that's though to beat. read more

The 8x10 is cool. I've only been here once to see Brothers Past last year. My god did they kill it that night! Anyhow, the 8x10 was something new for me. It is f'ing tiny! and I loved it! You want to talk about intimacy, you can't get any damn closer. The band was quite literally huddled together playing, the stage was so small. Despite the small space they still manage to jam two full bars in. One on each floor. The place is divey, but it has a great sound system. Definitely did BP justice on the night I saw them. I wish more bands played here than Rams Head Live, but I understand. Its in a really cool part of town, very young, very hip. Parking isn't a problem, there is a garage a block down. I look forward to coming back. This place is the best I've found in B-more so far (be warned they will charge you an extra $5 if you are under 21) read more

Best music venue in B-more! They get amazing acts and have a great sound system but a pair of ear plugs in your back pocket could change your whole night for the better if its cranked just a bite too much. The upper deck can be a sweet dance spot and less crowded bar if open. I recommend the tall boy PBR's if it's crowded, less trips to the bar. But the staff is nice and professional and they really try to keep everyone satisfied from the guys at the front door to the bartenders everyone I have encountered has been super friendly. read more

I came here years ago when it was called the Funk Box. I just remember driving with my friend from Philly and feeling so "hip" for going to B'more for a music concert in this weird little venue. Okay, clearly I am no longer allowed to call myself: hip, cool, or funky funky fresh anymore (as if I ever could). But still in my thirties, I still go to number of concerts a year. Of all the spaces in Baltimore, I think the 8X10 is the most intimate that still can attract decent pretty well known bands. With two floors, I like to go to the second floor looking at the band members' hats and bald spots. And although the acoustics are far from perfect, the space is small enough that it does not matter all that much. read more

This is a very cool little venue in Federal Hill in Baltimore. The area seems to be up and coming, and this place is in the middle of it. The inside is clean (supposedly newly renovated), but still has a divey music club feel. The drinks were strong and the music was awesome. Highly recommend going here for a concert. read more

This is my "club" of choice in Baltimore. It's a small hole-in-the-wall "club" that can hold around 300 people. Formerly "The 8 x 10," "The Funk Box" just recently changed its name to..."The 8 x 10." Management and their craziness, I guess. This is one of the legendary jam band clubs of Baltimore, and I can definitely understand why. Seriously, Maryland's best jam bands hit the intimate stage here. The two bars in the small, often packed "night club" see lots of action but it's generally never too crowded to hit up a shot of Jager (my drink of choice). Cover's generally under $15 for a show and drinks are discounted in between doors and the opening band. The atmosphere's always awesome because everyone's always into the music. It's a bit smokey and I find myself showering after each party, but whatever....It's all in good fun. This place will definitely show you a great time if you're into rock, funk, jazz, or any fusion of the genres. But if you're one of those silk shirt wearing, Iguana Cantina types who like to pick up on chicks by schmoozing at the bar, I'd avoid this place. People aren't here to shack up as much as chill out. I came here once to see my friend's band play in some sort of competition. The place isn't very big, although I've been in smaller "concert" venues. You mostly have an entrance area, with the main bar, and then a larger opening with a single stage. Seating was minimal, so be prepared to stand as you watch the bands. I didn't get to see or try everything here, so I may have to go back. The bar seemed nice, but as I wasn't drinking I never used it. There also was an upstairs that was roped off and you could see more seating on walkways over the band area. I guess they open this up during busier times when it's more crowded. Overall, it was a cool place to visit and I'll probably have to come back out here to really make a final decision. read more

When bands tour, they generally try and hit larger, heavily-college-populated cities on the weekends. Baltimore isn't a larger, heavily-college-oriented city. As such, it's pretty much a fly-over state when it comes to live music. Bands coming through the mid-atlantic to upper east coast are more likely to try and hit Richmond, DC, Philly & NY on the weekends, and if they have the time, maybe squeeze in Baltimore somewhere along the way...on a Tuesday or Wednesday...if at all. Such is the nature of this city. That being said, I saw some really phenomenally good shows at the 8x10 when I lived in Baltimore. And I don't think I ever paid more than $10 or $15 for a show, ever. Those same acts, in a city like NY or Boston, would be playing for $30 a ticket in a venue far less cozy & intimate than the 8x10. I really enjoyed the layout of the venue too...no matter where you stood the sound and the sight lines were good. The 8x10 is *almost* good enough to make hanging out in Federal Hill worth it. Almost...but not quite. Just try to avoid the neighborhood on the weekends...unless you want to see a whole bunch of drunken Jersey Shore wannabes parading around acting like assholes. read more

I was here merely tagging along with my cousin and her friends. I was NOT a fan of the performers at the show but the venue's sound system was clear and good. It was small enough to be intimate and still have a rock club feel. It got kind of packed and some of the people there for the show were pretty rude. I know that it isn't the venue's fault for who goes to the shows...but basically the crowd was not for me. I looked over the list of upcoming shows and didn't recognize a single name, so maybe this is a local spot. I guess I would have to do my research. Only thing is...I ordered a whiskey and diet. I got what was a double for only $7.25 which is an acceptable price considering a single is usually $5. The drink was rather strong too. BUT ... my drink tasted like dirty tap water. The Meyer sound system they employ is the best in the business, your ears will thank you Taper friendly patchbay is a first in this area, leave your mics at home and enjoy the show....plug and play Its a tight club, two row homes wide, so get there early if you want to get close.....though you will hear the music anywhere in the club Yeah, Federal Hill has changed since I was in school, but this place has only gotten better with time read more

Holy Crap! How did I go so long in this city without ever going to this place? I know. Because every time I see their show lineup in City paper I have never heard of 99% of the bands. That's my loss. came here last night to see the New Mastersounds at the suggestion of a friend who knows what he's talkin' bout. So we call the place and the person on the phone says "doors open at 7, music starts at 7:30". So we get there a little after 8 and there are very few people here. I walk in and check the place out. Great setup with nice size stage and big yet cozy floor area that gets full quickly So we're sitting for about 15 minutes listening to whatever is playing over the speakers and kinda bummed because we feel so early that no one has even gone on yet. I walk over to a side of the floor and look up to see that it's a DJ spinning the music that I thought was just being pumped into the place. I walk upstairs and this is where the early party was! Full bar upstairs, great viewing area with even better acoustics and up off the crowded floor. Nice area! All the bands that played just lit the place up and this was a Tuesday night. House was packed and these bands were so happy to be in Baltimore for the first time. I think we left an impression on them. Venue is small but intimate. Pretty clean too. The crowd was top notch as you can tell that everyone was there for the same thing. My only drawback is that there is a $15 minimum for credit cards. Natty Boh's are $4.50. That's a Baltimore no-no right there. For that price I better get 2. But I'll be back. Love this venue. I'll bring cash too. read more

Probably one of my favorite venues in Charm City, if not my favorite. Intimate space with great acoustics and design, and to top it off, GOOD BEER. Swung by last night for a Sylvan Esso concert, and the 8X10 did not fail to please. In addition to the cool atmosphere and jammin music, the staff is super nice and very attentive (a trait that can be hard to come by in general, much less at a crowded show). Tip of the hat to the bartender for passing those drinks out with a 60 second or less turnaround, every gaddamn time. 8x10 is a nice little venue to see a band. My friend and I travelled from Philly to see one of our favorite bands play. Downfall of the venue is that the merch table has to be in the "dungeon" below the main music hall area. Of course we were selling merch that night so we took turns staying in the dungeon so that we each could see some of the show. However, it was still a great place, pretty good acoustics, decently friendly staff, and they allow photography which for me is a plus! read more

This is a hidden gem of Federal Hill and of Baltimore City. By far one of the best concert venues around town. I like it more than most for its smaller size. You have a great view of the band anywhere you stand. This is a great place to hear local talent for cheap! Not your crap high school bands, but very talented local musicians. This place is the shit! I love this venue it is incredibly intimate and one of my favorites in Baltimore. It is located in a hopping part of the city with bars all up and down the street. Not that that matters because drinks are usually pretty cheap at the 8x10 compared to other bars. Ticket prices are also usually very cheap and the staff is super friendly and chill. I have seen a lot of great local music build their followings here and once you get familiar enough with the staff you can usually chill backstage upstairs in the green room and get into all kinds of shenanigans. There is also a balcony level with another bar and sometimes they have lie painters up there. They also usually sell awesome merch downstairs in the hallway.
