WOW this place is large!…read more I took my daughter here earlier this week for her birthday and it was quite the day. We started off the day with shopping for a doll. She wanted one that looked just like her. A very nice salesperson helped us and gave her many options. We finally found one but still walked around and looked for accessories and just to meander through all the areas of the store. The second floor is so wild. There is a salon and so many different rooms. Make sure to make a salon reservation ahead of time. I made that mistake. I did know to make a Lunch reservation at the cafe. It was delightful! The food was surprisingly good! This is a pricey store but worth the memories and I know my daughter is so happy

But my friends have had two separate birthday brunches here and you know what I'm not mad about it??? You got four courses for $38??? And you get to bring your own doll BYOD! I brought my own, of course, and she has a backpack......They always start you off with the cinnamon rolls, which are very flaky but good. If I was a child, I would eat 10 of these, but they only give you one. Then they give you this tea service ask plate with a variety of strange appetizers. For example, meatballs, fried ravioli and hummus bites. Very random, but that's OK. There is something for everyone at the American girl doll store. For my main on both times that I've been here I've had the quiche with the side salad. Look, I'll be honest it's a really good quiche. It's a quiche I would seek out if it wasn't at the American girl doll store. Finally, you finish with dessert, which is normally chocolate mousse, but if you're celebrating a birthday, you get the chocolate and vanilla cake with a side of ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. The cake actually isn't that good but the ice cream is. You also get a free nonalcoholic beverage! Look even as an adult I think this is a funny side quest or bit and like I said, the food is actually good. Yet again, another win for capitalism.

**Kari's Rating: 8/10** *(Would easily be a 9.5/10 if the beauty department weren't so…read moreoverwhelming.)* TL;DR * The beauty associates are *far* too aggressive--it feels impossible to browse without being approached every few seconds. * The café is still one of my favorite places in Chicago. * Free alterations on Nordstrom purchases and $25 for outside items is a huge plus. I've lived in River North for over eight years, and honestly, there's no place quite like Nordstrom. I grew up coming here with my mom, sitting in the café, eating pizza, and leaving with a "Nordy" balloon. Those are some of my favorite childhood memories, and to this day I still think about their margarita pizza. Now that I'm older, I bring my dog shopping with me, and she absolutely loves all the attention from the associates and other shoppers. We've been to the café countless times, and she would unquestionably give the kids' chicken and veggie meal a 10/10. Nordstrom is still my go-to department store because it's convenient, consistently carries the brands and style I wear, and the customer service outside of cosmetics has always been excellent. It's the first place I think of when I need clothing, shoes, or gifts. That said, the beauty department has become incredibly frustrating. I completely understand that many of the makeup associates work on commission, and I genuinely respect that they're doing their jobs. But there is a huge difference between being available to help and making customers feel like they can't exist in the department without being approached. Every time I walk through the makeup area, I can barely look at a product before someone is asking if I need help. If I say "I'm just browsing," another associate from a different brand approaches me literally seconds later. Then another. Then another. It gets to the point where I'm being interrupted every few steps. Instead of enjoying the experience, I feel anxious and rushed. I don't get to compare products or discover something on my own because I'm constantly trying to politely decline conversations. It honestly feels less like shopping and more like running a gauntlet. Ironically, the constant pressure makes me want to spend **less**, not more. I've actually skipped buying products because I just wanted to get out of that section as quickly as possible. I still love Nordstrom and will continue shopping here because it's my favorite department store and has everything I'm looking for. I just wish the beauty department adopted a more relaxed approach. Customers should be able to browse comfortably and ask for help when they're ready--not feel like they're being followed every few seconds.

There's about three floors that are similar to a mall with multiple shopping areas and a food court. There is one sit down restaurant that has a huge bar and views over the river. If you're staying at the Holiday Inn downtown or the Voco downtown, there's a convenient walkway over the street so you don't even need to go outside. The food court has a huge variety of quick service restaurants: salads, barbecue, sushi, Chinese, sandwiches, and fried chicken. Multiple restaurants allow you to order food ahead and pick it up so you don't have to wait in long lines. Most of the building is office space so if you're here around 8 or 9 AM, lunchtime, or 4 to 6 PM, it's crazy busy. There are a couple entrances that have those rotating doors. My first morning here I was entering from the street level through one of those and a lady behind me came and pushed the door really fast. It was all I could do to step out the door without having to go around again. She then rushed by me and almost ran up the escalator.
