I didn't realize it was a consignment store and probably wouldn't have stopped in had I known that, but I'm glad I did. I bought a cute little rain slicker for my daughter and I almost can't wait until spring so she can wear it. There's a lot of clothing and she has them sorted well so it's easy to find the sizes you're looking for. In the back, she even has a dollhouse which I think isn't for sale, but is for kids to play with. Maybe I'm wrong about that, though! There's lots of toys and tchotchkes here too. I bought some little bath bombs that look like donuts because I think my kiddo will be amazed when they start to fizz. I also picked up some crayons and a couple other things. There's no parking lot but you may find parking along Montrose or Ashland. The entrance is a little funny; it opens at street level but there's a steep ramp down to the store, which is below grade. I assume that like many shops at this level it had steps to get down and as a children's store, a ramp definitely would be in order to accommodate strollers. But it is indeed a bit steep so be mindful of that.

I'll just echo what others have said about this place so they have a recent well deserved review…read more Still amazing friendly service, wonderful options, and at good prices. They were so welcoming of my chaos with my two toddlers. I've never been to a better children's consignment store. Like someone else said, it really is a Chicago gem.

But Cory and Rachel completely changed that for us. From the moment we walked in, they were so welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful without being pushy at all. They took the time to understand what we were looking for, walked us through different options, and answered every single question we had (and we had a lot!). Their expertise really stood out, and it made us feel confident in our decisions. By the end of it, it honestly didn't make sense not to make the purchase because of how thorough and helpful they were. We ended up choosing a Nuna, and we absolutely love it--we can't wait to start using it once our baby arrives! The complimentary installation was also such a huge bonus and made the whole experience feel even more seamless and stress-free. Highly, highly recommend Twinkle Twinkle--especially Cory and Rachel. They made what could have been an overwhelming process feel easy and exciting!

Vanessa, the owner, is exceedingly kind and stopping in today and having the chance to meet her feels like fate. When I first stopped in the other employee here greeted me and asked what brought me in and if I needed help finding anything. It's not a large place but there is a LOT to look at. They have clothing, accessories, adult jewelry (possibly kids jewelry too, but I wasn't looking at it much), hair notions, and so on. One thing I really needed is a pacifier clip since my daughter has taken to pulling hers out and it ends up in a place in her carseat that is hard for me to reach! They happened to have these which made it a successful shopping trip right there. But whilst we were wandering, Vanessa complimented my sweetie pie and we got to talking. I was in the store for 35 minutes or so and probably half of that was chatting with her. I got a couple of the pacifier clips, and a freaking ADORABLE winter hat that I'm pretty sure is handmade and will probably fly off the shelf. I also bought a book featuring Chicago landmarks which I learned as I checked out Vanessa actually wrote. She autographed it for my baby which I love! Parking is street only and probably can get tough some days, but it's worth the visit. The store is full of really high quality items. They have quite a few Chicago-themed items as well, such as the aforementioned hat, onesies, t-shirts, and so on. It was so nice to talk with Vanessa and get to know her a bit. This is a small shop with big heart and should be on your list of fave baby shops in Chicago.

Lillia barn means "little child" in Swedish. but they don't sell children's clothing exclusively…read more The store has an interesting backstory. The owner makes the clothes she sells in the studio at the back of the store. She began doing so when she was pregnant with her own child years ago and calls herself a "color equity ambassador" according to the website, which I can get on board with: When she was pregnant, she could only find stereotypical boy/girl colors in clothing. I can confirm! It is a struggle to find baby clothes that aren't in the "blue for boy, pink for girl" camp (did you know that pink was once associated with boys, and the gendering of colors is a relatively new phenomenon?). During my own pregnancy a few months ago I had a hard time with this as well, and the inventory at the stores I visited tended to have a lot of blue or pink rather than gender neutral selection. What began as an online store finally grew into a physical location in late 2022. The clothing for both children and adults feature bold, gender neutral patterns. They feature an artist in residence, who at the time of this writing is Adria Green. Although they now have a physical location, they still participate in some local craft shows (they were at Renegade this weekend). The store also features like-minded brands in addition to its own. I purchased something from a brand called Earth Cadets, a local Chicago company that sells durable goods. Another of the brands they carry, Gunner + Lux, actually has a pop-up on their site asking you to confirm you agree with their equity principles or they can't take your money. I love that she supports and provides an outlet for other eco- and socially-conscious brands. The next step (according to the email list that I was apparently added to) is inclusive sizing, which I can definitely appreciate as a plus-size woman. Usually when I go to The Understudy, I park on the Gregory Street side. For that reason I never noticed this shop until today. I'm glad that I did and was able to stop by, and hope this shop thrives in this location.

The staff member was super helpful, they helped me with some suggestions as I was looking for a couple of gifts. I learned that most everything is made on-site by the owner, their studio is in the back of the shop along with an artist in residence. They also feature other local goods from women-owned businesses. Heck yes. I am happy to have a new go-to small business for my gifting needs and am eyeing some of the impeccable clothing for myself.

Overall, it does have a higher price tag, but I think the quality is there. I especially love their more local lines, like Sweet Home Chicago, which is filled with the CUTEST Chicago tees and sweatshirts you'll find in the city! I also adore their Little Wonder line (moment of silence that name), which is clothing for newborns, toddlers, and kids. I got a friend a cute set for her baby and just picked up a shirt that says "I still live with my parents" that will fit a 3-6 month old. A&W also started a beanie line called 'mad hatter' which has beanies in every color under the sun that are super soft and thick to keep your ears warm during the Chicago winter. Alice & Wonder has an online store and ships across the country if you don't live in Chicago but want to check it out. This will without a doubt be my go to shop for any thoughtful holiday or birthday gifts from here on out!
