A variety of pens, markers, and stationery items are organized in clear containers and wooden compartments in a store setting.

I have been wanting to shop here for awhile, but the line to get in is always so long. This time there were only 3 people in line, so of course we waited. The place is very, very small, but packed with stationary, pens, stamps, calendars, notebooks, markers and everything you need to write a letter or card. You could easily spend hours looking at all the items, but knowing there is a line of people waiting to come in , it puts some pressure on the experience. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The items are priced in a broad range.. I will definitely return when looking for paper products or stationary.

Came here from So. California and had to make a stop! Found this place on TikTok months ago when it showed up on my FYP. This was a main stop for me while visiting Chicago. This stationery store is an absolute gem! The selection is thoughtfully curated, with everything from beautiful notebooks and high-quality pens to unique cards and organization supplies. The store is clean, well-organized, and inspiring to browse. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to help without being pushy. Whether you're shopping for work, school, or a special gift, this place makes even simple purchases feel enjoyable. As someone that loves to journal, this is a one-stop-shop. They have everything! If you're visiting the area and love paper, pens, pencils and everything in between...this is a must stop!

What a cute tiny shop chock full of stationary items, stickers, rubber stamps, washi tape and more. I loved it!

I've been following Paper & Pencil on Instagram since before they opened. Today I had the chance to stop in! It's easy to miss since it's on a side street off of Clark, but that would be an unfortunate miss for you. If you like writing implements, journals, cards, or anything stationary related, you should check out this little shop. They have a wall full of pens of various types. Whimsical cards can be found around the place. I LOVE that they have wax seal stamps (most of which are from Modern Legacy Paper Company). I think I already have several of the ones they had, otherwise I probably would have left with another one. Unfortunately they don't seem to have a lot of sealing wax--but maybe I missed the bulk of it. They also have the wax seals that are stickers if you don't want to use your own stamp and wax. Calendars and organization tools can be found at this shop as well. They have a Snail Mail Club, which piqued my interest immediately because I love to send cards and get the very rare piece of personal mail. The owner told me that they have an evening where folks can gather and, with other fans of postal mail, can work on cards, letters, or whatever they'd like to send. You can bring your own supplies or you can purchase items at their shop (purchase is not required), and they'll provide a few things as well like pens and rubber stamps. I love that they're creating a community at the store, and third space at which people can gather. Check their Instagram for details (or sign up for their newsletter). They are a cashless store so come prepared for that sort of payment. I used digital payment, but I assume they'd also take credit cards. Parking is street only.

Great stationary store! My partner bought a ton of fun stuff like pens, a stamp with cats, stickers, pins etc. Also the staff was very helpful with any question. Great price for things too! Some are more expensive of course but they're great there. They even have a list of events coming up. Will definitely follow them on instagram!

Today I stopped in and picked up some cool greeting cards, copper paper clips, translucent post-its, some vinyl stickers, and some mini-notecards. I am a stationery lover so this store is right up my alley. I will definitely be back. So fun to stop and see all the cool trinkets, pens, markers, and stamps too!

The "art" they sell is the kind that goes on a greeting card or t-shirt. Some booths sell crafts like you can find on Etsy--upcycled clothes and amigurumi or felt toys (which were cute enough but nothing amazing). Others sell imported items. It wasn't always clear if they were fair trade or not. In fact, that was one of the things that bugged me: many booths' lack of transparency on where these items were made/who made them. A lot of items looked mass produced, so it was hard to tell what wasn't. Basically this store exemplifies what happens when you commercialize art. Everything converges under market pressure and ends up looking the same. Personally antique malls are my style. They have a similar concept (many vendors in one space), but much more interesting and greater variety of items.

The ambiance is super nice, big windows and plants and lots of wood decor. It has a very local, casual vibe, and many of the people there seem to be regulars. I went for the wine tasting, which they offer every Thursday from 5-7pm. The tasting costs only $5, but it is free with any purchase. We bought the red wine cheese set for around $13, so we got our wine for free. They also kindly cut and arranged the cheese for us, and it was perfect for two people. We got to try four wines: Italo Cescon Pinot Grigio, Schild Estate GMS, Viva Valentina Sangiovese, and Chateau Kefraya Les Breteches. The GMS and sangiovese were definitely my favorite. It was a really great experience! Everyone was really friendly, the price was incredible, and the wine was high quality. I definitely hope to be back here.

Don't miss the bathroom...the "Sunday in the Park" hand-painted mural allegedly has 9 subtle changes that have been modified to reflect the area/owner. And speaking of the owner, Liz, she popped in and within minutes seemed to be making an effort to talk to her patrons - really nice person. I had a grilled goat cheese w/fig sandwich that was awesome! Staff was friendly too. I'll be coming back once I decide which event I want to attend: wine tasting Thursdays, Friday evening bands, Sunday Jazz brunch, or Movie nights.
