Except food! I've been coming to 888 for over 20years and they are always on point. The flavor and consistency of their food are amazing. My favorites are general chicken, lo main, and noodle soups! Every time I try something else from the menu, I never get disappointed, everything is good!! read more

Very disappointed with my experience. After placing my delivery order, a worker called asking if I had cash for a tip and stated there was a "required minimum $3 delivery tip." This policy was never posted on the website, even though convenience and delivery fees were already added. Because 15% of my order was less than $3, my order was canceled. Canceling an order over a tip amount is very unprofessional and misleading. If a minimum tip is required, it should be clearly stated before checkout! read more

Food and service is GREAT!! It's always clean in there. Restaurant is always nice and cool. Wonton soup is always fresh never soggy. I can't say enough good things it's a great restaurant and staff is kind and always accurate. To-go orders are always done pretty quick too. They'll also accommodate and let you order when it's close to closing. Bathrooms are clean too. Utensils clean and in tip top shape. GREEN BEAN CHICKEN AND MANGO CHICKEN are hands down the best dishes. If youre feeling spicy the Thai pepper cilantro is the way to go. read more

I had been driving past this place for what seemed like forever. I finally stopped in to try it. I have a nose for good food places. This place did not disappoint. I wanted take out but I could see the restaurant was busy for lunch. I ordered the lunch special for Eggplant in garlic sauce , egg drop soup, and fried rice. It was so yummy! I definitely recommend this place and will be back. read more

This restaurant is open! I put in for an edit because it says it is closed. It won't let me check in. A good neighbor Chinese place. Lunch special is reasonable except you can only get soup or an egg roll, not both. UPCHARGE! The AC is not working well yet and the warmth is unpleasant. I'm sure this place gets noisy when full. Food and proximity will have me back again. Perhaps they will be listed as open and they will have the AC at a decent temperature for Houston. read more

Finally!! Best Chinese I've had so far in houston. I got the chicken and broccoli with fried rice and it had the taste I was looking for. My friend got seasame chicken and hers was like icey cold so not sure why it wasn't fresh when mine was so fresh. But very tasty read more

Food was good and filling portion sizes were not super duper huge like other Chinese spots though. Staff was kind and got my food out in 15 minutes. The restaurant was kinda aged and not the nicest but the inside wasn't horrible but in this area that's what you're going to get. read more

The manager is a female and really rude. We spent over $70 there and ordered mango chicken with garlic sauce and it came out dry and no sauce was given even though we said "extra sauce". We come all the way from Sugarland every 2 weeks to get food. She didn't even want to listen to my complaint and wouldn't offer us anything in compensation after we called and complained. read more

Place was clean, plenty of parking. Staff were friendly. I ordered the mapo tofu, it was so good! Want overly spicy with the spices that numb your mouth. It was perfect along with the minced meat. I would definitely return here to try other dishes! read more

I've dined at 888 - the original location off Woodridge - since 2005. I'm not sure when this newer Wayside @ 45 location opened, but it's definitely an upgrade (though I liked the original cafe's quaint charm). There are a handful of 888 ("triple eight") locations across Greater Houston. This is where we usually dine in or order delivery. They're best known for their steamed or fried chicken or pork dumplings. Get the #8 chicken in hot sauce dumplings (only comes in fried). It's a must for any order. From there, they have all of your usual Chinese cafe staples, including some szechuan dishes. I like that they also featured a vegetables and bean curd section of their menu; and their house specialties include whole red snapper, snapper, red fish and other atypical items you'd see on a the menu at a casual Chinese cafe. Insider tip: There is a "Chinese menu" that you can request. It has more items that you won't find on the regular restaurant menu. It's all in Cantonese with brief descriptions in English. We usually get #20 on the Chinese menu (diced chicken with hot pepper). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/888-chinese-restaurant-houston-4?select=_B74mJUT4W7AS1gjskLG0Q Since this cafe is in Wayside, the TVs display telenovelas (love that). But the music needs some work. Whatever streaming serving they use has far too many commercials - they should upgrade that for a more pleasant dining experience. Just a thought. :) read more

Really good food and polite service, though quite empty especially for a Friday night. ~ Hot & Sour soup: tasty but neither hot nor sour enough for me - clearly made for the anglo tongue ~ Garlic eggplant: a serious standout - soft aubergine in a lovely savory brown sauce with a perfect amount of garlic ~ General Tsos Jumbo Shrimp: big! shrimp in a nice pungent sauce with lots of peppers complimented by bell peppers & broccoli ~ Chicken with Thai Pepper & Cilantro: shredded chicken (a bit dry but such is the peril of shreds) in a light glaze with Lots! of green onion & cilantro, though the peppers looked like jalapenos fwiw... very yummy ~ Steamed rice was plump and clung together nicely for chopsticks ~ Iced tea was servicible if a tiny bit stale - to be expected when very near closing time as we were ~ Fortune cookie crispy 888 is very recommended for take away / delivery and this first time eating in was enjoyable with good portion sizes and manageable levels of spice. read more

We ordered the Sichuan beef and egg rolls to split. Excellent food as always! I've been several times, but this is my first review. I'd suggest the cilantro chicken as well - it's actually mostly leeks with the chicken, but it is excellent! read more

What a disappointment. I order sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, hot and sour soup and an egg roll. My plate came with white rice and had to explain I ordered fried rice and then i didn't get the hot and sour soup and had to ask for it. The sweet and sour chicken was fried nicely but it didn't have any chicken in it. It was pretty much just fried dough. I mentioned it to the waiter, and he just laughed and said speak to the lady owner. After this experience I will choose not to dine here anymore. read more

Im giving this place 5 stars because they exceed normal expectations of most general Chinese take out restaurants. Service has always been good here, they don't kiss your ass but they are patient and diligent. There fried rice , lo mein, egg roll , spring and soups are all good and very consistent. ( when I say good , I mean just that. Not great , fantastic or life changing. It is good for the price you are paying) and the inside is always cleaned and maintained. read more

This place is not closed. The food is good. When asked about a side of green bean and if they could do them spicy. Keaton told me they wouldn't do them. Cause the kitchen doesn't like doing small sides spicy. It's to much work. Wow, what happened to giving the customer what they want. I had to buy a whole meal just for spicy stir fried green beans. He acted uniform like he didn't care when brought up how unprofessional that sounded. He told his friend next to him that Adam who ever that is. Told him, stuff like that couldn't be ordered. I won't be coming back. Unfortunately. I know losing one customer doesn't matter. But they should think about the way they run a restaurant. read more

The cilantro chicken is my go-to, always fresh and delicious. Sometimes a little heavy on the pepper. Great hot and sour soup too!

Great super fresh food. Never had issues here the food has always came out hot and fresh.

Let's start with the waiter cause he was great and deserves a shout out. Romeo was very nice. He was attentive, quick, and very helpful. I stopped by this place on a whim and I really liked it. It's surprisingly large and there was a decent crowd for a Wednesday at 6 pm. The inside was clean and well maintained. The food came out quickly and was right. You'll find all your American Chinese fare here including Kung Pao chicken, sesame chicken and more. I ordered the hot and sour soup. I thought the small size was a generous portion for what I paid. It came with fried wontons. I ordered the mango chicken and was pretty satisfied based on what I expected. The mangos were slightly underripe but I enjoyed the dish. Again the portion size was generous. The meal ended with a sliced orange. It was a nice touch that I really appreciated. The orange was tasty and expertly peeled. The kind of thing you expect to find in a bougie brunch place. This place is a great value in an age when that is incredibly rare. I'll definitely be back someday in the near future on a day when my wallet and stomach are light. read more

Placed order and was missing food and utensils. Contacted location and was basically told to "f off" and hung up. Poor Customer service and I blame the manager as she made the decision before hanging up. Will never order from there again. read more

Now that you've read all the reviews for American style Chinese dishes, I'm going to review an actual dish from the Chinese menu. I know it's hard to believe but I actually went to a Chinese restaurant to eat Chinese food. I did order an egg roll but what can I do it's a guilty pleasure even if it isn't home made and taste like a lot of other restaurants around the area. My main dish was the shredded chicken with Thai peppers and cilantro. I used to eat this dish all the time at their original location on Winkler so I will compare it to what it used to be. Ok, that did tasted almost exactly as I remembered. I love it! So my decision is to give them five stars for now. I would give the 4.5 but that's not an option. I'm not sure why people complained about the quantity or prices because they seemed the same to me. If you were fond of the items on their old Chinese menu, I suggest you return your patronage and try it out. read more

The service is terrible here. Twice they have charged me without actually providing my food while ordering through their website. The first time it let me order through their website and the restaurant was actually closed. They charged my card and refused to provide me a refund. I ended up going through my bank to stop the payment. Second time months later I tried again and this time I got part of my order. They refused to give me a refund and said that the door dasher stole my food so I had to take it up with door dash. Since I ordered the food through their website DoorDash said they could not refund me the money because it was not done through their app. These people are broke crooks. Don't order from here. read more

I love that they offer their sauces to buy separately. The garlic and general tsos sauces are so delicious, and they aren't very expensive either. The food is pretty consistently delicious and is more or less your standard Chinese food. I haven't had anything bad from there yet. We've only ordered from Uber eats, so I'm not sure what it's like inside or how the service is. read more

This restaurant is located close to highway 45 and easy to find for a quick lunch. - There's enough parking and the lot was fairly clean; - The waitress seated us promptly and was cheerful - The menu for lunch had a good spread and reasonably priced - We ordered a pair of dishes from the lunch menu - 1 vegetable and 1 chicken. Both were delicious and the quantity was good- - The music was a bit loud which was the only disappointment Will be going back read more

I've ordered and received delivery from 888 on Wayside multiple times. Never ever had a problem, food was great, drivers were friendly, and I always tipped well. However, today was much different and I don't think I'll be giving them my business again as a result. I put in an online order like I usually do, it said it'd take 90 mins, which wasn't an issue. Though with the amount of times I've ordered (easily 15-20) it's usually never THAT long. By the time it was an hour and a half later, I called and spoke to a woman on the phone asking about the order. She put me on hold for almost 5 minutes, and told me it would be there shortly. I said thank you. She was honestly rude and very short. 30 minutes later it still hadn't come. I called again, the same woman answered, and I asked again. She put me on hold for 5 minutes again. Eventually a young man answered and I just asked for a refund. Because at that point it had been over 2 hours and I just didn't care for the food anymore. At that point I got a call which ended up being the delivery driver saying he'd be here soon. At this point we don't even want the food anymore and just want our money back. At this point I was tired of doing with it, to which my girlfriend wanted to talk with them. So she did. She asked for a refund and was put on hold 2 different times for about 10 minutes total. During that time the food arrives. She said she wanted her money back, to which the woman she was speaking to (supposedly the manager) said that they wanted the food back to do so. We couldn't send the food back as the delivery driver had already left in the amount of times we were put on hold. The woman offered a partial discount on a future meal, which at this point we don't even want to give our business to this location ever again. So we denied, and asked for a refund, to which she insisted on us calling our bank to charge back the total, rather than give us a refund. It went back and forth for awhile until we gave up as it was clear that they weren't going to cooperate. I'm unsure of what's going on at this location, but with some of the reviews it's clear that there's an issue with staff and/or management as of late. Save yourself the time and stress. Go to a different restaurant, or at least a different location. read more

The low rating is for the quality and taste of the food. The staff was very friendly and I have no complaints with the service. We ordered orange chicken, general tso chicken, lo mein, fried rice, and crispy spring rolls. The orange chicken and general tso chicken was pretty bad. It just did not taste good and we didn't end up eating very much of it. The lo mein and fried rice were ok, not great. The spring rolls were good however. We tried this place because they were open on Christmas Eve, but we probably won't be back. read more

Based on the food alone, this place is 5 stars. Everything I've had so far has been hot, fresh, and so good! My favorites are any of the dishes with garlic sauce. Their fried rice actually tastes like authentic fried rice with the green onion, egg, and white onion. The meat is high quality and tender. Service is quick and friendly. The only negative thing I can really say about the place is that their parking lot is small and they need more bussers to clean tables during the lunch rush but I came for the food and not the ambience. Will be visiting often! read more
