I saw the NuDeco Ensemble perform this past Saturday during their South Beach Wine & Food Festival event at the North Beach bandshell and wow with my good friend Cecilia P and wow!! Normally classical music for me is 90s hip hop and freestyle reunion shows. Boy was I missing out! These guys covered everyone from Queens to OutKast in an orchestral combination. The symphony of strings, percussion and wind was delightful. NuDeco's conductor would also stop between sets to explain their compositions as well. The night was closed with Rev Run (Run DMC you millenials :) The fact they were able to cast a great symphonic spell playing outdoors at the newly renovated North Beach Bandshell was even more spectacular. The guy there lets me DJ once a month on their state of the art equipment, although the needle on the left turntable is always messed up so I have to bring my own from home. I looked up Jolts on Yelp but didn't see them, they're still just a small, modest mom n pop operation. I created their page here so I could write a review and share with the world my experiences at Jolts. There's a guy who likes to hang out there on the days I go, his name is Robbbie Brandy (like the drink). He's always playing music from genres I've never heard of like grindcore, power electronics, national socialist black metal, doom gaze, sound puzzle, bukkake-core, Chinese Opera, no-fi, ...just to name a few. I guess u can say Jolts is pretty "eclectic" with their programming. The Jolts studio itself is located at an up-and-coming block in historical Allapattah which is slowly but surely being gentrifried by artist studios and stores selling yoga pants for babies. But don't dismay, Jolts is the REAL DEAL. A creative platform that gives a voice to their community. I travel there once a month from Fort Lauderdale, so I certainly know what community is all about. PROS: Being able to be a part of Jolts' creative community. I get a free glass of water every time I go, in an actual GLASS! CONS: Google maps didn't let me know about traffic on I95, so I got there late yesterday.

She was great at reading the crowd and played songs that got our guests up on the dance floor. Since we'd just eaten, we didn't enjoy food but definitely savored their beverages. My coconut mojito - my usual poison - was on point with the mix of the elixir, the coconut flakes and overall composition. For the special occasion. the owner / manager even visited our table and offered us complimentary aguardiente shots. What made the night even better? They close off Sunset Dr. between Red Road and US 1, so it's about 2 blocks long. There aren't nearly as many artist booths as the Coconut Grove Art Festival, so in no time, you've seen them all. The food is standard festival fare, nothing especially stood out. I do enjoy the Rotary Club beer booth. The beer is served extremely cold at a decent price, and the money spent goes to a good cause. They also manage to always have a decent jazz quartet providing entertainment. Unfortunately, you'll probably have to stand while you listen, as seating is VERY limited. Parking is difficult (like always). I worked out a deal with a restaurant valet with the promise (which i kept) that I'd have lunch there! Basically just a "so-so" event, but, hey, it's free...
