Sooooooo impressed with ALL of the accommodations at 86 Cannon. They missed nothing! From the welcome wine and cheese to the fresh breakfast - you are in for a real treat! The details made this quaint, cozy, incredibly well decorated charmer feel like home for the 4 nights we were in Charleston. I was amazed that so may details were so well done!! To me, details are important! Providing guests with Malin + Goetz Rum bathroom products, a Dry Bar Blower Dryer, handcrafted chocolates from a Chocolatier, adorable bikes to cruise town on, the list goes on...it was excellent - we couldn't get enough!! I'd recommend this darling spot again and again!!! Can't wait to go back!

86 Cannon is absolutely the best. From the minute we pulled into our very own designated parking spot to when we left, we felt like we were home away from home. We were greeted by the most darling Josie who checked us in and helped us to our gorgeous room. She was so personable, helpful and delightful. Taylor was sweet too, as was Megan. Our room had everything we could ever need and it was absolutely GORGEOUS!! The piazza outside of our room was a beautiful gathering place to have our evening wine and cheese plate. The beautiful kitchen was well equipped, comfy and full of yummy food, including homemade yogurt and granola. This darling little hotel is elegantly decorated coastal and comfortable, and is close to the town full of restaurants and shopping. If 10 stars were an option we would give them. 86 Cannon is a very special hotel.

We called this charming B&B the same day we were leaving Miami on a last minute road trip to Charleston. We spoke with Mary Hannah and told her we wanted to stay a few days, unfortunately, they didn't have availability for the length of our stay and she offered to call other hotels around Charleston for the days they didn't have available! We booked our stay with 86 Cannon and hit the road. My husband and I arrived at the B&B at 2:00 am and Lori the owner greeted us with a warm smile and helped us with our bags to our room. This B&B was thoughtfully restored and renovated! The rooms are very spacious and beautiful. The beds, the sheets, the towels, the beautiful and luxurious glass and marble shower, the delicious morning breakfast, the wine and cheese hour in the evening, the charming Linus bikes with basket, their dogs Gus and Sully (not in the main house - don't worry if you are allergic). I can go on and on about 86 Cannon. At check-in they emailed us recommendations for restaurants and we went to almost all of them. The location is not in the historic area but it is a block away from several great restaurants and a quick bike ride or Uber to everywhere else. Looking forward to our next stay!

Definitely 5 star accommodations. Top of my list when it comes to luxury bed & breakfast. We were greeted with champagne and friendly inn keepers. The room was beautiful and immaculate. Everything they offer is quality from linens, bottled water, drinks, chocolates, room amenities, etc. Breakfast is wonderful. However after staying 3 nights, it got a little mundane with the same breakfast choices every day.

We stayed in suite 6 for 2 nights at 86 cannon and we absolutely adored it! I forgot to take pictures when I first got in so I don't have any of the suite itself but we fell in love. It was so clean and beautiful and everyone was so nice. The breakfast was amazing and so was the wine & cheese offered to guests every evening. Our suite was separate from the main house but the library and the cafe inside the main house are absolutely beautiful. Our favorite part was the robes they offered! We cannot wait to go back!

Wow! Wow! Wow! That is what you will find yourself saying from the moment you arrive at 86 Cannon. The beauty and attention to detail when they remolded this property is second to none. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Mary (she helps manage the property), she offered us a glass of champagne or mimosa as were taken into the house's office for check in. Mary explained all the wonderful amenities 86 Cannon offers (breakfast, happy hour with wine and cheese and free use of their bicycles which is the best way to get around). She also helped us orient ourselves with a map and had great suggestions of restaurants we should try during our stay. (Raw 167, Leon's, The Ordinary are just a few we made it to and they were outstanding). Mary also texted us all the info she suggested so we could have it in our phone as we were out and about exploring the city. The room was absolutely stunning, very spacious, comfortable bed and the bathroom was everything I wish my bathroom was like. Our room #2 also had a noise maker that was a great addition since we are used to sleeping with one back home. Our first afternoon at 86 Cannon we were happy to meet Lori at the wine and cheese happy hour, she is one of the owners and could not be sweeter and we very much enjoyed talking to her as she prepared our cheese (3 types), dried fruit, French bread slices and nut board. She offered a great selection of 4 wines as well (white, rose, Pinot noir and a rioja) all very nice choices. Breakfast every morning was comprised of freshly made quiches (different flavors daily) they are kept warm in slices in the toaster oven as well as hard boiled eggs, pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit and juices and coffee or tea. On our last day there, during breakfast, we also had the pleasure of meeting Lori's husband Marion, he is also so kind and they both take so much pride in hosting their guests it's very sweet and refreshing to see people take such pride in what they do. I can not say enough great things about 86 Cannon, if your able to get a room and enjoy your Charleston stay here it will be one of the highlights of your trip and you will surely go by back raving about it to everyone you know. Thanks to Mary, Lori and Marion again for making our anniversary stay with you so special! Can't wait to go back!

Although it wasn't cabana season or warm enough to get into the pool, the cabana room was really nice and clean. I thought the room was just so cute and loved how the entire hotel was decorated. I was still able to enjoy a couple hours sitting out in the sun by the pool during my stay. They offered an hour of complimentary champagne in the late afternoon which was a nice touch. The hotel has a nice cafe and restaurant attached so you don't have to go far to find some food and coffee. I definitely recommend this hotel and enjoyed our brief time there.

The Mills House is one of the truly classic Charleston hotels. It has gone through a lot of owners in its history. It has been an independent property, a Hyatt, a Wyndham and has had many other flags. Hilton has renovated it a bit but kept most of its eccentricities. The location on Meeting Street not far from King can't be beat. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food and drink are the main restaurant and bar, the Iron Rose, are good. The negatives include the plumbing. On two of the three days we were there over Christmas, the water in the shower was just lukewarm, and the water pressure came and went. The other main negative is the cost of parking, $60 a night. That's a Manhattan price, not what you'd expect in a mid-size Southern city. Still, we like the atmosphere and the history, so we'll stick with five stars.

There were a lots of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. They boast about their butler service, which is pretty unique in the United States (akin to the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean). We only stayed one night and did not make the most out of it. Our butler was very pleasant and offered detailed recommendations regarding restaurants in the area. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We arrived early and had to wait a few hours until our room was ready. That was a slight nuisance as it was a cold and rainy October weekend in Charleston. Luckily they had plenty of umbrellas for us to use. The welcome cocktails were a nice touch when we were finally able to check-in. Other nice touches include the complimentary drinks, candies and snacks that were already waiting in the room. The turndown service also included chocolate and a small sweet alcoholic drink / shot. Lastly, the included room service breakfast in the morning elevates the stay. A lot of good things. However, I thought the rooms themselves were just okay and a bit dated. Our friends stayed at a boutique hotel with vaulted ceilings and its own kitchenette for less money. Another disappointment was that we booked a room with a small outdoor courtyard, but were given a regular room. Given the weather, we probably wouldn't have used the outdoor space at all, but it would be good to get what you paid for. Overall very good service and location. They have a nice bar by the lobby that we did not make use of. The rooms themselves are just okay and on the small size. I would probably stay somewhere else next time I visit Charleston, even though I have nothing bad to say about The Spectator. Maybe my expectations were too high with a 4.8 / 5 average Yelp score. I just think there's better value elsewhere.

You're only as strong as your weakest link…read more I've stayed in many hotels for both work and personal travel. The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.
