Service was horrendous. We spent a lot of money to get down there for them to only tell us that we are not allowed in because we are all not 19. On the phone they said as long as the minors don't drink then they can come in. Once we got there they told us everyone 18 and younger had to leave. Food was hot and fresh we had a little bit of everything but the taiwanese sausage was on point. Open late and usually busy so call ahead. Came here for Happy Hour karaoke with a large group of friends on the weekend and I had a fairly good experience. The Happy Hour ran from 3pm to 8:30pm and it was roughly $13 per person after tax and tips, which also came with a non-alcoholic drink of our choice. I liked that the location at right by the Dundas/Spadina major intersection, so it's easy to commute by street car from both streets. If you're driving there's underground parking at the Dragon City for $15 a day. The song selection for English songs was decent and the system on the touch-screen menu was pretty easy to navigate. The search system sucked just like most karaoke bars that I've been to, however. The room was pretty and the disco lighting was great. The furniture was in decent shape and no complains on the sound system as well. I liked that we were given disposable covers to put on our mics for sanitary reasons and for better sound quality. If you're looking for a cheap and decent quality karaoke bar for Happy Hour, then 8090KTV is a great place to go. However, I don't suggest coming after the Happy Hour as prices go up drastically and the food and drinks are quite over-priced. read more

When we arrived, the price we were told was $12.50 + tax, but when we left, someone new was at the counter and we were charged $15 + 10% service fee + tax. Beware, they can change how much they charge on a whim. Not only that, when paying, they miscounted and wanted to overcharge us. I celebrated my birthday last night (Saturday) at 8090 on Spadina & Dundas and it was honestly a great success. I've never been to a karaoke bar before and I'm glad I went here for my first experience. This place had great service, excellent song selections, beautiful lavish rooms and a great variety of booze and apps. This is a long one but if you're looking to celebrate your birthday here and doing some research hopefully this will give you some updated insight. I discovered this place from an article I found on blogTO. Originally I tried booking Bar+ Karaoke for my birthday but their online booking system was a big fail. I booked more than a month in advance at Bar+ and after not receiving any calls back for a week, I tried following up with them only to find out they never received my booking and that the place was fully booked for the date I requested. So as a Plan B I did some research and booked 8090 KTV successfully. There were 30-40 guests expected and we booked the party room, which is the biggest room at the bar and it comes with its own washroom. They did mention that this room fits 30 guests comfortably, which I found out later was referring to the seating. For the extra guests, the staff was kind enough to bring in some stools. It wasn't crammed and there was still room to stand if you or your friends preferred. It got somewhat warm in there due to our party size, but it wasn't too obtrusive. For the party room the staff will mention that in order to book the room you and your guests must spend a minimum of $500... so let your friends know that ahead of time! Split that between 30+ people and that's like ~$15/person. That's easily 1 drink and 1 food. Unlike other karaoke bars there is no deposit required and no hourly rate. They kindly booked us from 10pm to 3am, which is when they close. They accept tap, cash, debit and CC. If you refer to their website there's not much except for pictures of their gorgeous rooms and the booking phone number. I was helped by a staff member named Jessie and she was very helpful overall. Unfortunately the website doesn't display their menus but they were kind enough to text me nice and clear pictures of them. So for your convenience (and with permission from a staff member) I've attached them below. The food selection has a variety of finger foods/apps $10 and under. Drinks have a weekday and weekend price. They have beer by the bottle, mixes, and a great variety of hard liquor. You can do combos, which is like ordering bottle service: liqour + pitchers of juice/pop. They will also permit you to bring in your own cake for your party. The food was delicious I ordered the signature salted pepper chicken, it reminded me of popcorn chicken. Had to order a second one cus it was that good. My guests were pleased with the food and drinks overall. In the room itself, you have a red button to signal a staff member to come to your room, so you don't necessarily have to go to the bar to order. The TV was massive and clear, the speakers were strong and your room comes equipped with two mics. You can also control the lights in the room. Btw the party room is the room with the two chandeliers if you're referring to the pics on their website. Our party room still had balloons and decorations leftover from the previous party and it added to the fun atmosphere of the night. Now in terms of the music, I was quite happy with the options. According to blogTO they have a variety of English, Korean, Japanese, Cantonese and Mandarin songs. I was a little apprehensive because a lot of the reviews here on Yelp seemed negative towards the lack of English song selections and it not being updated. But trust me they really updated the English song lists... we were singing some of the most recent top 40s. They have all the classic karaoke hits, go-to's, party anthems and throwbacks--I'm sure you and your guests will be pleased. Bear in mind I did arrive a little later than a few of my guests, so they were given the tutorial by the staff member on how to navigate through the touchscreen monitor to select and queue songs. It's mostly tricky cus it's mainly in Korean, so navigating might be a little tricky if you missed that tutorial. But once you get passed that and find your way through you're good. Don't hesitate to ask for help, the staff was very professional. We went on a Saturday and parking is free on Dundas after 9pm, apparently my friend found a parking garage in front of the bar and it was $7 until the next day. 19+ bar. Came here because my friends and I were in the area but left disappointed. We were told upon arrival that the price was $12.50 but when we left, a different employee charged us $15 + 10% service charge + tax per person. Not sure what the service charge is for since we didn't receive any service of any kind... no complimentary beverage as other reviews indicated. The hallway and room smell heavily of smoke. Some of the rooms had no smoking signs and some did not. The smell was so strong that I had to shower right after I got home but the fumes are still on my jacket and scarf. The equipment qualities were excellent, the songs choosing system, microphones and the sound effect were great, all songs can be found in their system. The service was perfect. I think in general there is really insufficient karaoke competition in downtown Toronto to drive this industry to better themselves. Anyone that has been to karaoke in Markham would agree to this because I can honestly say, downtown karaoke is DIRTY. Washroom was a disaster, it was wet the whole night. The kind of wet that one girl actually fell in the washroom. Water was pouring out from the sink onto the floor when you wash your hands. Toilet paper is advised not to be thrown into the toilet. Come on, it is 2017... Room - the decor was a joke. It might look nice but if you take a closer look, they are some very very cheap material and it looks like the owner is just trying to put as many things on the wall as possible without really THINKING ABOUT WHAT IS INTERIOR DESIGN; Room cleanliness - OMG, one side of the coffee table was ripped and it is exposing what is underneath the coffee table. I have found: countless cigarettes, gum, napkin, a fork, coins, chicken wing bones and whatever I can't look at it anymore. This means the staff/owner/manager literally DO NOT CARE about how dirty it is. They are not cleaning it and they know you can see it. Cups - I have to returned the cups and asked for some cleaned ones as we found stains on a couple of them. How do they wash their cups? I don't know. I have requested to have plastic disposal cups instead but they do not have. I might consider bringing my own cups if I really need to come back to here. Microphone and sound system worked - hey thanks for that one basic thing you got it right :) I hope one day they will understand what customer service can do to a business and make the right business decisions from there. read more

This place uses deceptive payment practices to try and scam people out of money. First of all, be aware that the minimum spend to rent a room does not include tax and tip (this is mentioned nowhere on their website). So if you want to rent out a large room on a weekend, for example, the minimum spend is $350 before tax and gratuity. They should mention this on the website. Second, they add an automatic gratuity of 15% to each purchase without telling you. And of course the machine *still* prompts for a tip to be added, which is highly deceptive. We were unaware gratuity had already been included so tipped an additional 18% for each drink purchase. They must have enjoyed their 33% tip - never once thought to tell us the tip was already included. And of course this 33% gratuity does not count towards the minimum spend, so they milked even more money out of us at the end. On top of all that, the karaoke system is confusing and does not have a great selection of songs. Avoid this place - there are better karaoke bars in Toronto that don't try to cheat their customers. read more

Came here on a friday night for a farewell party for bf's coworker- party of 10 which eventually became party of 14 or so. Ambiance: 3/5 Slightly sketchy with narrow and steep stairs. Black lights everywhere. The private Karaoke room was okay... vinyl covered bench seating, glass coffee table. Nothing special, not bad. The room was pretty warm, with no air circulation, however, we were stuffed to the rafters, so that was probably in part our fault. Product: Food/ Drink: 3/5; KTV: 4.5/5 Limited selection on drinks and drink mixes. Food was SOOOO salty. Not salty enough to be bitter, but salty enough to make us consistently thirsty (and hence, ordering more drinks! hah). The actual karaoke was, to my surprise, pretty good! Packed with all the latest hits, 90s rap, and a few pre-set playlists. Most of the songs even had the real video (this is a big deal, compared to KTV places in a large part of Asia). Sound system was good, buzzed a bit at the sheer volume. Sound proofing between rooms was merely decent, even over our noise, we could hear the rowdy cheers from other rooms. Service: 3/5 Upon arrival, a friendly bouncer wandering to and fro in between the door and the near by bar ID'd us, and made a best guess at which room our friends were in (he was right.. I'm not sure how). The "servers" who came in to take our empties, bring food, and troubleshoot our KTV machine were decent. Quiet and quick, their purpose was definitely to get things done, not add to the atmosphere. All in all, 3-and-a-bit-of-extra-salt/ 5. Overall: Had a good time with friends and enjoyed my time there. * Atmosphere - The area is in Chinatown and the place itself looks a little sketchy. However, the rooms themselves are pretty well kept and decorated! * Price - We had a group of 12, so we rented a large room for about $204. But if we spent over $250 on snacks/drinks the room was "free", which we did. We ended up being able to stay until closing (3am) after the $250 mark as well! * Taste - they had a variety of mixtures including basics like rum and Coke. The taste was average. As for the snacks, we mainly ordered fries. Nothing spectacular, but I'd get sweet potato over regular ones. * Experience - the machine was in Chinese, but would search English songs. (For those who can't read, might need to get a review of how it works). The songs were semi-current (probably 2015?), but they lacked some newer artists and top hits. The videos were usually just the original music videos. There were two microphones as well. * Service - they brought drinks and food relatively quickly. The service was average. * Recommendations - I would go later in the night to try and max out on benefits if you're doing the $250+ deal! read more

Made reservations the day before for a Friday night, party of 15. They didn't have a medium sized room available so upgraded us for free to their largest room. We payed $280 excluding tax in total and ordered food (fries, chicken wings), and drinks (Bacardi with mixers). The alcohol tasted watered down, but that's to be expected. We came over with furious enthusiasm at 2:15 thinking we could him a few bars. 6-7 people were right inside staffing the bar and they tripped over each other coming up with excuses about how they needed to close and didn't want our business. Actually this KTV is not a cheap one comparing to any KTV in uptown. Happy-hour price is $10+tax but only including one drink. KTV in uptown usually $10 including two drinks or one drink + one big basket of snacks. Songs in the menu is not too updated. But if you only sing the old songs, then it is not a big deal. read more

I wanted to write a review for 8090 because when I was looking for a karaoke place to host a big group for my birthday, the reviews on the english music selection worried me. I booked it, and had a group of 25 - it was an incredible time and I'm so glad we went! The rooms are BEAUTIFUL. Lots of microphones for people to sing (including one with a kick stand!), staff were awesome, hip, extremely helpful. The song selection was great (I read a lot of reviews about the lack of english music, would have to strongly disagree with that, they had everything we wanted - we were there for 4 hours singing all english music!). No hourly charge, just had a minimum spend for the room which we met no problem. Would STRONGLY recommend this place! read more
