Not sure if I tried this place yet before prior but I've tried a few online places in the area, but I'm really picky on the macaroni and there's one other place that hits it well and this is the second place that hits it well so I definitely recommend getting a side of Mac on your main dish and the Katsu with that sauce is simply delicious. It adds an elevation of boom in your mouth to the senses. The ribs are great. All the other portions are great. They give you a good size for what you're paying and that's what I'm all about. This was probably one of the best meals I had in this area on this visit. The people in-side were friendly and if you you're wondering, it's under the same umbrella as the location in Hillsboro. Dined inside 808 Grinds yesterday afternoon. Service was good. Nice area inside to eat. LOVED the poke combination. Delicious! Highly recommend. The Trifecta combo (kalua pork, 808 chicken, and shoyu chicken) was tasty but saltier than I'm accustomed to. The chocolate haupia was not as delicious as I'd expected it to be. It tasted okay. I originally wanted the guava chiffon cake that was listed online, but it wasn't available. The butter mochi dessert tasted great! The next time I go to 808 Grinds, I will try the Da Kine noodles, Kalbi, and the Lilikoi cheesecake. I wanted to try the saimin, except that I'm allergic to shrimp, which is the soup base. Since everyone has their own unique taste buds, even though the kalua pork was salty for my own specific taste, others might enjoy it. I did like the smoky flavor. The 808 chicken was delicious. Especially paired with the dipping sauces, sweet wasabi spicy mayo, and 808 soy-ginger sauces. The shoyu chicken was flavorful. It was shredded, made of boneless, skinless chicken. I would've given 808 Grinds 5 out of 5 stars if the kalua pork and chocolate haupia dessert were as good as the rest of the meal. I enjoyed eating the leftovers the next day. Very solid food! Big fan of hawaiian food so I like trying new spots, hawaiian food is definitely a bigger thing in Portland. I really enjoyed the plates my boyfriend and I tried and the portions were a good size. Prices were fair! Service was friendly. Seating here is definitely hit or miss though, there was hardly any seating when we arrived, they have plenty of seating outside but not enough tables inside IMO. We stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night about an hour before closing. The location is located in a slightly more rundown place, it seems pretty empty in this strip mall area. My friend ordered the Kalbi Pork Belly ($15) and I ordered the Zack's Spicy Chicken ($14). The Pork Belly was delicious! The pork belly was so buttery but not greasy. Due to the layer of fat in the pork belly, it was definitely more filling though. I felt like the pork belly could have been charred a bit more for the smokey flavor, but my friend seemed to really enjoy it. It came with the Mac salad, rice and your choice of sauce. For homemade sauce choices there were teriyaki, habanero teriyaki, spicy mayo, sweet wasabi, and the 808 soy-ginger garlic. If you like their sauces, they also have options to purchase to take home! As for the Zack's Spicy Chicken, I loved it! The chicken was marinated with the spicy mayo, topped with some green onions, cucumbers, and crisp onion slices (not super raw tho). The chicken was perfectly seasoned and the rice really helped cut the spice. It came with the homemade Mac salad and rice. The homemade Mac salad was pretty good. I am usually not the biggest fan of Mac salad because of the excessive mayo but this one didn't have a ton in it. It was pretty enjoyable and the ingredients were fresh. The menu said it comes with kimchi slaw but I think I missed it because it was late. :/ But with or without it, the dish was super yummy! Honestly, stop by and give it a try. The building is cornered in an old strip mall that was maybe once in its heyday when K-Mart and Radioshack were at the top. But they did a phenomenal job outside and in on their part of the building. Most important, the food. Had the 808 combo, smothered the rice in their habanero teriyaki sauce and it was out this world. Local boys would be crawling all over this place if it were down south. The serving portion is satisfactory. Our parry ordered Kalbi pork belly, pulled pork, tuna poké, soyu chicken and pulled pork combo and a slice of guava chiffon cake to share. They have a nice outdoor seating where we enjoyed our lunch in the warm sun. All in all, their meat was nice and juicy. I only wish the chicken was not shredded and instead I prefer chicken thigh chunks. The flavors were all very good. I like all the sauces you can add to the meat and rice. Each dish came with two scoops of rice. The cake was very light and was very good. But I didn't detect any guava flavor. The service was friendly. I know this place has been around for a long time and has a very loyal following. However, our experience was not stellar. We both had the combo with 808 fried chicken and kahlua pig. The chicken was overcooked and stringy, and the kahlua pig, although juicy, was very over salted. The rice was fine but the mac salad had too much mayo and just seemed to be an afterthought. It was darn disappointing. One other thing: the interior of the restaurant doesn't seem to have been thought about for a long time. The lighting is awful and everything just looks shop worn. There were maybe about seating for 25-30 people. The combo tray was really tasty and huge portions, chicken was great, pork was ok. It's located at the east end of the DMV strip mall. 808 Fried chicken plate: 4.5/5 nice juicy chicken--kind of tastes similar to Chik-fil-a, but a little sweeter, and made with thighs instead of white meat, which I prefer. Includes 2 scoops rice, 1 scoop Mac salad, and 3 sauces. (I personally didn't really need the sauces.) Rainbow poke: 5/5 salmon and tuna were nice and smooth and good texture--not smooshy. Also comes with fried wonton wrapper, which is fun for scooping, and choice of Mac salad or rice. Service was fast and friendly! I'll definitely be back! Came by for lunch around 1PM on Monday. Not too many people so we were able to find a table after ordering at the front. I got the Da Kine noodles. A pretty simple stir fried noodle with beansprouts, char siu pork, and an assortment of other veggies. The char siu was pretty nice and tender. The noodles were fairly cooked through, though I personally prefer noodles on the more "al dente" side. There wasn't too much flavor until you add the extra teriyaki sauce they give on the side. Just add a bit with each bite and it makes a HUGE difference. Scarfed it all down. I also got the Hawaiian Sun drink in the Passionfruit flavor. A nice light carbonated juice that went really well with the food. I gotta find some near me now. Pretty good Hawaiian place.
