    Chicken katsu and Mac

Not sure if I tried this place yet before prior but I've tried a few online places in the area, but I'm really picky on the macaroni and there's one other place that hits it well and this is the second place that hits it well so I definitely recommend getting a side of Mac on your main dish and the Katsu with that sauce is simply delicious. It adds an elevation of boom in your mouth to the senses. The ribs are great. All the other portions are great. They give you a good size for what you're paying and that's what I'm all about. I'm all about portion over price. Definitely get your Hawaiian on here.

I haven't been to this place in a while. I stopped by for lunch and the food is still just as delicious as it was before. I ordered their shoyu chicken, the chicken was so juicy with great flavor. Service was fast and the people are really nice. The portion is huge, to me. Half of the Togo plate was chicken, 2 scoops of rice with Mac salad for $13. Great deal! Love the island vibes inside. 10/10 recommend this place.

Amazing service by Sol. Not just for me but everyone in there. Food came quickly. Great/tight kitchen vibe. Kimchi ramen ($15) looks spicy bc it's red but is incredibly well-balanced. Loved the bean sprout me that garnished the rich broth and ramen noodles. I would have even liked more. Of course I ordered the Mac salad ($3) Clean tables to eat on; nice large community bar in the middle to offer a shared eating area. Cold water and utensils are on counter: self-serve.

We originally came here because we enjoyed the food at 808 Grindz on the Big Island, Hawaii, but it turns out they're not the same restaurant. That said, this place was still really good, we really enjoyed the food! We ordered the loco moco, 808 fried chicken, and Huli Huli chicken. Everything was full of flavor, and the sauces they offer on the side really take it up a notch. We're glad we found this spot and will definitely be coming back, especially since our kids liked it a lot. The place isn't the most modern, but it's very clean. Honestly, it tasted better than some of the food we had in Hawaii! There's plenty of parking since the plaza is mostly empty, it kind of felt like the restaurant was the only place open, with the other shops shut down. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made it an even nicer experience.

As you approach the restaurant that's tucked away in the corner of a very unassuming, almost post-apocalyptic like shopping center, don't let it scare you away. This was probably one of the best meals I had in this area on this visit. The people in-side were friendly and if you you're wondering, it's under the same umbrella as the location in Hillsboro. Onto the food, we tried the kalbi pork belly plate (it was a special item for the day) and the Rainbow poke. Both had a lot of flavor, but not too much, and were done just right. Will definitely try more things from the menu next time...ALOHA!

Dined inside 808 Grinds yesterday afternoon. Service was good. Nice area inside to eat. LOVED the poke combination. Delicious! Highly recommend. The Trifecta combo (kalua pork, 808 chicken, and shoyu chicken) was tasty but saltier than I'm accustomed to. The chocolate haupia was not as delicious as I'd expected it to be. It tasted okay. I originally wanted the guava chiffon cake that was listed online, but it wasn't available. The butter mochi dessert tasted great! The next time I go to 808 Grinds, I will try the Da Kine noodles, Kalbi, and the Lilikoi cheesecake. I wanted to try the saimin, except that I'm allergic to shrimp, which is the soup base. Since everyone has their own unique taste buds, even though the kalua pork was salty for my own specific taste, others might enjoy it. I did like the smoky flavor. The 808 chicken was delicious. Especially paired with the dipping sauces, sweet wasabi spicy mayo, and 808 soy-ginger sauces. The shoyu chicken was flavorful. It was shredded, made of boneless, skinless chicken. I would've given 808 Grinds 5 out of 5 stars if the kalua pork and chocolate haupia dessert were as good as the rest of the meal. I enjoyed eating the leftovers the next day. Our order was big enough for lunch, for two days, for my husband and I.

Service is outstanding. Connected with the workers very well. Clean dining ambience. They also had merchandise. My husband and I got a plate combo. Plus two Hawaiian sun drinks. They also had a bunch of condiments at the condiments bar and complimentary water. Next time I go I will not forget to order their dessert. 10/10 best Hawaiian in Oregon. I was so full but I cousins stop eating it really was so good! Will be returning for comfort food

Very solid food! Big fan of hawaiian food so I like trying new spots, hawaiian food is definitely a bigger thing in Portland. I really enjoyed the plates my boyfriend and I tried and the portions were a good size. Prices were fair! Service was friendly. Seating here is definitely hit or miss though, there was hardly any seating when we arrived, they have plenty of seating outside but not enough tables inside IMO. We just ate in the car since it was pouring down rain, but otherwise the food was great. As far as sauces go, I actually wasn't a big fan of the teriyaki sauce but the 808 soy sauce was good and my boyfriend enjoyed the jalapeño teriyaki sauce.

We stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night about an hour before closing. The location is located in a slightly more rundown place, it seems pretty empty in this strip mall area. My friend ordered the Kalbi Pork Belly ($15) and I ordered the Zack's Spicy Chicken ($14). The Pork Belly was delicious! The pork belly was so buttery but not greasy. Due to the layer of fat in the pork belly, it was definitely more filling though. I felt like the pork belly could have been charred a bit more for the smokey flavor, but my friend seemed to really enjoy it. It came with the Mac salad, rice and your choice of sauce. For homemade sauce choices there were teriyaki, habanero teriyaki, spicy mayo, sweet wasabi, and the 808 soy-ginger garlic. If you like their sauces, they also have options to purchase to take home! As for the Zack's Spicy Chicken, I loved it! The chicken was marinated with the spicy mayo, topped with some green onions, cucumbers, and crisp onion slices (not super raw tho). The chicken was perfectly seasoned and the rice really helped cut the spice. It came with the homemade Mac salad and rice. The homemade Mac salad was pretty good. I am usually not the biggest fan of Mac salad because of the excessive mayo but this one didn't have a ton in it. It was pretty enjoyable and the ingredients were fresh. The menu said it comes with kimchi slaw but I think I missed it because it was late. :/ But with or without it, the dish was super yummy! Honestly, stop by and give it a try. Don't judge a book by its cover or you will miss out on their yummy food! There were about 4 tables indoors, but they also have picnic style tables outside as well.

Best Hawaiian outside of HI. Got the trifecta with chicken, fried chicken and pulled pork. Sampled all the sauces. All were great. Spicy mayo would be amazing on sushi and so would the wasabi mayo. Really can't complain. Great portions for the price. Taking food home as we had some left... not that I didn't want to keep eating...I sure would have. Will be returning soon.

808 combo plate. Kalua pork, fried chicken, rice mac salad.

808 Grinds is solid. One of the better plate lunch joints I have been to in a while. The building is cornered in an old strip mall that was maybe once in its heyday when K-Mart and Radioshack were at the top. But they did a phenomenal job outside and in on their part of the building. Most important, the food. Had the 808 combo, smothered the rice in their habanero teriyaki sauce and it was out this world. Local boys would be crawling all over this place if it were down south. Would love to see what they can do with some ulua or Ono on their hands, but they are crushing it in Oregon. Thanks again for the good bites.

Ask the Community - 808 Grinds Hawaiian Cafe

    Do they serve alcohol?

Hawaiian beer in can by the register

Do they have any Gluten Free options?

I am pretty sure that what I ate was gluten free - the teriyaki salmon. I bet rice and coleslaw are both gluten free, but I would double check with them about all of that.

Do they package to go in paper containers or plastic?

The last time I was there it was packaged in plastic containers.

Do they allow dogs in the outdoor seating area?

Yes, dogs are allowed outside. Staff has water bowls for dogs as well.

Any restaurants in the Beaverton area with outdoor seating?

McMenamins Cornelius Pass, McMenamins Rock Creek, Helvatia Tavern, Si Senor Hall Blvd, Bethany Public House, Golden Valley Brewery and The Rock Woodfire Grill. Just a few I can think of.

My partner and I got the grilled bbq chicken and the bbq short ribs + marinated beef. Unfortunately, the deep fried chicken was sold out for the day (we came in about 45 minutes until closing so perhaps our fault). I think because of the time we came in- we got kitchen scraps. The short ribs were 90% fat and 10% actual meat. The macaroni salad was incredibly plain, it needed more seasoning - pepper something because it straight up looked it was pasta with slabbed mayo. I will however give a shot out to their poke because I don't eat seafood nor like it and I did give this a try for the fun of it and it was delicious. Again I think because we came in 40-45 minutes before closing closing the service was not great either. I saw the self service bottles of sauce and when I came back I asked the lady for one and she said she had run out when it was pretty clear she was just cleaning up. Fair- you want to get out of there on time. So I asked the lady for hot sauce and she said it was extra and charged me $1.00 per 2.5oz container which is just diabolical in my opinion- I still paid none the less so it's my dusky for contribution to the fiasco. Overall it was mid, I'm used to much more flavorful food in Los Angeles. Ill give it another go whenever I'm in the area at a different time. Perhaps it was a one off day for them.

Nolan's Hawaii accent is still thick it made me feel like I was back home on the west side for a second (!!!!thank you!!!!) I met some people outside the food stand, a business man from Hawaii and some California people I mistaken were from Hawaii as well, lol. It was an awesome interaction, from the moment I got there I got greeted by strangers waiting for food, to going up to the window and asking "so what? No more nuttin left?" Nolan's response was "Nah I only get mochicko chicken and kalua, you likem?" Haha that was a definite yes! Won't miss out on home food esp if word of mouth was already out there. So I waited a few minutes for my food, and the box was heavy. Haha it felt like when you would eat at your aunty and uncles house and they pack you the party left overs. I opened my plate lunch and I was greeted by a huge portion of chicken, pork rice and Mac salad. And let me tell you, the Mac salad didn't have so much frills like what you would see in a Portland Hawaii food joint. It was sauced, and seasoned. PERFECT! No need for all the extra add ons. As I started eating, let me say that kalua pork was no joke so moist and easy to eat not even close to dried out. The chicken tasted nice and crispy with just enough marinate and fluff. I haven't found this anywhere in Oregon..until here. Yeah sure there's a poke and katsu bar in the shopping center next door... but I take the random food cart in the parking lot any day over something franchised

Double starch, double chicken, check. Loved that the menu pointed out they serve koshihikari rice. I knew I was in good hands. No medium grain rice for this gal.
