I do not recommend 72 Tree, Seed & Land Co. I originally went with them based on these good reviews by other customers, and up front JD seemed like a guy that would do high quality service. I did not get many quotes up front but just went with it in hopes of having a good job done.
Pricing was a confusing process for a pretty straight forward job (a couple options available depending on costs), and in the end all prices were a bit high but we went with it as part of trade off hoping for good service.
The day the crew comes it is not even a crew for 72 Tree. Instead 770-Bam-Tree shows up and starts doing the work early one morning. After some confusion and finally able to reach 770-Bam-Tree to figure out what is going on, JD sends them some work from time to time. Whether or not all the insurance and workers comp and details in my contract with 72 tree applies, I doubt it (it makes no mention of subcontracting). Nevertheless, they work quickly and are halfway done before the confusion is sorted out, and this is where it goes down hill.
We had 2 trees removed sitting behind the lawn. They were roughly 40 ft bradford pears, with two main sections already down on the ground due to storm. We opted to not use a crane and were willing to accept that there may be some damage from felling trees to some bushes below and whatnot. JD did not guarantee protection of lawn and bushes without crane, but also said that best effort would be made to not damage the lawn and bushes. Zero effort was made. The crew literally cut a few hanging limbs down, fell the tree in one swoop from the base, and then proceeded to rope it to the truck and drag full size trunks and large limbs across the lawn leaving large ruts. The damage did not occur from the tree falling mind you - that damage was minimal. Instead, the damage occurred by roping it to the truck and dragging the downed tree across the front lawn to the street rather than cutting it into smaller pieces, or laying plywood down first, or doing literally anything at all to try and protect the lawn. Unfortunately the crew worked so fast that the damage was already done before I could stop them. Now I am having to plant sod and fill ruts, with a minimum of a full growing season, to restore the lawn damage that could have been avoided with a few simple precautions (without a crane).
There was also some confusion around what work was to be done. There was a small pile of limbs from one of the bradfords I had already cut down prior to contracting 72 Tree that was off on the side. Due to confusing pricing process and fact that it wasn't spelled out word for word on paper, they did not take this small pile and now I must deal with it. Perhaps this was a misunderstanding between us, but it literally would have taken them 5-10 minutes to have handled this.
In the end, I paid $2800 to have these two bradfords removed, where a section from each was already down due to storm requiring less work. I was home for all aspects of project and in total it took no more than 2 hours time to perform the job. Furthermore, they left a small pile from one of the bradfords that I had cut. I raised my complaints to JD and he wouldn't budge on either, instead saying the job performed was a near perfect job. After this work, I got additional quotes from other companies on two similarly sized bradfords in the same location and multiple quotes were more than $1000 less than the price I paid 72 tree. It was my mistake not getting more quotes up front and placing too much faith on reviews and hoping for spectacular service. There was absolutely no reason to pay premium costs for poor quality work. Please do yourself a favor and get quotes other than from JD, despite the high reviews here, and if you do choose 72 tree, do not come to the table with expectations of quality work and ensure everything is guaranteed and written in the contract word for word or you may be severely disappointed. read more
