I took a photo immediately and brought the tart back to the store to address the issue. ​Initially, the manager claimed it was just a "strawberry seed" and picked it off the tart with bare hands while continuing to insist it wasn't a bug. Only after I showed the clear photo--which distinctly shows the ant's legs and body--did they inspect the remaining piece properly and offer explanations about how unusual this was. ​After I pointed out that an apology should have been the first response, the manager did apologize and processed a full refund for the product. ​While I appreciate that the manager apologized and resolved the refund in the end, the presence of a pest in the food and the initial unhygienic handling were disappointing. I hope the store takes this as an opportunity to reinforce their quality control and customer service protocols.
