Clean Bathroom, Great Salad…read more This gas station/deli market far exceeded my expectations when my brother and I stopped just for a restroom break on our drive south from Grandma's in NY to our home in VA. The restroom had a tile finish and was spotless, likely thanks to the service button available to patrons if they find the cleanliness unsatisfactory. As I walked from the restroom, I grew aware of how famished I was, and my eyes were immediately drawn to the refrigerated island of deli foods. Perusing through the variety of pre-made foods, I decided on a HUGE garden salad that had crisp, fresh lettuce and greens, as well as a carton of cubed swiss cheese and sweet bologna, which turned out to be delicious. Will, the cashier, was polite and welcoming, concluding a pleasant, quick pit stop at Rutter's. Sheetz and WaWa are my gas stations of choice where I live, and Subway is my go-to travel meal, but the food in Rutter's proved to be superior in both freshness and price to the food options available in any of those stores. I wish there was a Rutter's in Fredericksburg, VA because I was surprisingly pleased with my experience. In future trips to NY, Rutter's will be my halfway stop for a very convenient, healthy travel meal.

Nov. 2025 | Low Prices, High Marks…read more Customer service - 5 out of 5 Wait time - 5 out of 5 Cleanliness - 5 out of 5 Atmosphere - 5 out of 5 Food quality - 5 out of 5 First time at Rutter's since they're rare in my area. Think Sheetz, but better. Huge food selection, shockingly low prices. I went overboard on hotdogs (they all looked too good). See photos for reviews. Honorable mention to the men's restroom: easily one of the cleanest public bathrooms I've ever seen. I'll be back whenever I'm in the area.

Running low on fuel for the car and needing a lunch break, decided to stop in here…read more Gas you pay and full up. Inside the store: Bathroom are clean though might have to wait. Rows of snacks if you want and some phone accessories. Self-service kiosk to order order food and drinks. After ordering you bring the receipt to pay at the cashier then wait for your order to be made. I ordered: - bowl of chili - regular (not pictured) - small bowl that you can add cheese to it. I chose not to. It was satisfying. - churro fries with powdered sugar and cocoa powder. I wasn't expecting to fall in love with these and wish we ordered more. - Hazelnut Shake was the perfect combo to the fries. It wasn't sweet. - Egg Nog Shake is seasonal and has a bit of sweetness after taste. If you need a break this is a place to go.

Had my car inspected here. They didn't pass it because of "right inner tie rod had some play"…read more My husband, who used to be an inspections tech back in the day in PA, checked it. NO play. He calls them- they said "oh the paper does say right, we meant left." And this was also after we bought the part to change it. Guess what- NO PLAY on the left either. He calls and they said he's doing it wrong. He takes it to them for them to show him where the play was. It's so minute- and definitely not the 1/4 inch it takes to fail an inspection. He takes it to another inspection station- guess what- IT PASSED. And this is after he asked them to look at this particular "issue." They said it was so minute- it's not even a concern at this point and will be fine. This company stole money from us. They should not have failed our vehicle based off of PA laws. Do not go here!!!!!

I was driving back to Upstate New York from seeing the solar eclipse in Asheville, and a horrible…read moregrinding noise started to come out from under the hood of my 2001 Honda Civic in Northern Virginia. I couldn't figure out what it was, and kept driving, until finally, in a small town in Pennsylvania I'd never heard of, the battery light flashed on, and I pulled over into a gas station parking lot to find that the belt running my alternator and A/C compressor had snapped. What a nightmare. I've never had a car break down before, let alone on a long roadtrip, and it's always been one of my worst fears. Yet, as luck would have it, I was just a quarter-mile down the road from HC Automotive, and when I walked in holding my broken alternator belt, half an hour before closing, Jon not only managed to reassure me with a calm explanation of the potential causes, but immediately ordered a replacement belt, and printed out a map for me so I could drive to his shop on the back roads, without having to pay for a tow. When he looked at the engine and discovered that the A/C compressor pulley had seized up--a fix way more expensive and way more time-consuming than just a new belt--he suggested we instead replace it with a shorter belt for an A/C-less Civic, bypassing the A/C compressor, and thus enabling me to continue my drive (albeit sweatily). He spent quite a bit of time on the phone trying to find the belt, but it was the end of the day, and parts for a rare version of a 16-year-old car aren't that easy to find, and so he wouldn't have been able to get one until the next day. So he instead put in a generic belt of the right length, albeit with one fewer rib. Hooray! It worked perfectly, and got me all the way home, turning what I thought was going to be an overnight stay into just a few hours' delay. The cost was $246, of which $38 was for the belt, and $175 for an hour and a half-ish of labor (the last hour of which was after the posted closing hours). Plus, his shop has free coffee, wi-fi, a clean restroom, and a good assortment of golfing magazines :). Thanks, Jon!
